I would order from here again, but I'll try actual food since the first 2 times I ordered, it was only Wonton soup and Fried Donuts; both were good though. I decided to give them 3 stars because we ordered for delivery and it took 1 1/2 hours for our orders to arrive and we only ordered 1 order of pork eggrolls, fried donuts, and a lo mein lunch special. We called the location twice and the first time they said that they had to talk to the manager about our online order and the status of it and that they would call us back. Never got a call back so we ended up calling them again and they said the same thing, but I refused for them to call us back and I didn't mind being on hold. Just finishing up left overs now... It's as good as is was yesterday. It's was after 5pm so I decided to call in the order. (Really cool online ordering system but it proved safer to call in.) The employee who answered was adequate. She reviewed my order but then hung up. Like a previous review state, "I just heard a click!" Never asked for my name or tell me how long until the food was ready. Although the address is stated that building is located on Hollywood Blvd, it's actually deep within the plaza closer to Park Rd entrance. I didn't know that so I just drove around until I say Publix and then looked for the sign. Drop sis at Publix to grab drinks and I went to pick up the order. Walking in there was no acknowledgement just a stern faced young woman on the phone taking a lengthy order. At the end I hear her repeat the order and state an estimate wait time of 35 minutes. So I can only assume that human error was the cause her her not giving me the same. Food is already packed up and in a nice cardboard box that made travel extremely easy. Thankful sis was out of Publix by the time I had the food in hand. I get the food home and it's all delicious. The menu has a handful of vegetarian options and they were easily able to substitute a few things to make items vegan friendly. Huge size shrimp, well cooked rice, and all items received hot. Shrimp with Mixed Vegetables, Brown Rice, and Spring Roll Sauteed Broccoli, Vegetable Fried Rice w/o Eggs, and Spring Roll Less than $20 and had leftovers. read more

My family just ordered take out. Food is truly bad, as substandard and sloppily prepared as possible. Egg rolls are doughy, with hardly anything inside... even my always-hungry 21 year old couldn't eat them. In my continued effort to look for a good Chinese restaurant we tried for the first time China Star this past Friday 12-13. The food was outstanding and we will definitely become regulars. We enjoyed the leftovers through Sunday and we didnt experience any bloating which is usually the case with eating over MSGed chinese food. We ordered the sesame chic., Mongolian beef, chic and broccoli, roast pork, egg rolls, pork dumplings, fried rice, and the wonton soup. There was a lot of us LOL and everyone loved it. This is consistently good Chinese food. People are nice and food order comes out quick from when you order. I order cashew beef and it's not on the menu just the chicken and they always accommodate and it's always on point. Maria is really nice, she's usually there when I pick my order. And I always request extra fried noodles in many places they charge more but they don't. Def my spot. :) read more

Visited the restaurant a few hours ago for just some egg rolls and the experience was far from delightful. Really wanted to like this place and the egg rolls were a little taste experiment as I wanted to go back after my hair cut if I liked the food, and I gauge what the rest of the food would be like by ordering a basic staple (egg rolls are pretty difficult to ruin, but this place did). Reasons this place got a lousy rating by me: 1) I was the first customer and the veggies in the egg rolls were tasteless and mushy. AND WHAT KIND OF CHINESE JOINT PUTS PEAS IN A SHRIMP EGG ROLL? 2) I asked the bitter-acting girl for mustard, yet none was in the bag. And no napkins as well in a to-go item. So glad I looked inside the bag before I left!!! 3) RUDE, TERRIBLE ATTITUDE BY THE GIRL WHO WAITED ON ME!!! The girl who waited on me acted like she didn't want to be there. At all! When I asked for the mustard that she never bothered to put in the bag, she didn't even apologize for her mistake. I got soy sauce instead, which doesn't go with egg rolls at all, so she is wasting the owners money because most people will just throw away that condiment. She then begrudgingly put the mustard and napkins in the bag. She was very impolite and never even said "Thx for your business, good morning, have a nice day when the transaction was completed. Absolutely nothing to that effect. And I am an EXTREMELY polite person, so it's definitely not as though I was even remotely rude to her. I have also held many differing types of jobs in the service industry and customer service jobs and secretarial work as well, so I know exactly how the customer should be treated. This poor excuse for a worker is the reason that I will never return. I will also let my friends know about the extraordinarily shoddy service that I received, and I do indeed have many friends!). I've really enjoyed the food here but whoever is answering the food is extremely rude. I called to confirm they got my online order because they hadn't charged my card yet. First I was put on hold for about 8 mins and then I asked if they can confirm they received my order, she interrupts me before I could finish the question. Then tells me Yes without confirming what my order was and tells me the driver will be leaving in 30-35mins and hangs up before I could respond. Worst meal ever! I recently had the misfortune of ordering takeout from this horrid place. A friend likes Mu Shu pork and China Star was the only local place that had it... or so we thought. If the replacement of the traditional pancakes with raw wanton wrappers was the only issue this wouldn't be a one-star review but that was just the start of the s*it show that was our meal that night. I'll just go dish by dish to make the depth of failure crystal clear. Mu Shu Pork... the flavor and consistency of pork was barely acceptable but using wonton rappers that were stuck together and became hard within minutes of opening them instead of pancakes pushed this to a 1-star dish. (This dish was not eaten) The pan-fried dumplings were far from the best I've had...kind of small and a bit overcooked. Acceptable but since we threw half of them out 2 stars. Egg Rolls... ordered 3 ate 1 and 1/2 before I couldn't stomach them anymore. They were oddly flavorless but with a sweet note that was not welcome. These simply weren't good. 1 star Chicken Low Mein. This was just awful. It tasted like the cook, I won't use the word chef, dumped a cup of oyster sauce in the order. Three people tried this dish and all of us agreed it was inedible. (negative 10 stars for this completely ruined dish) Fried Rice was just fine 3 stars Wonton Soup was flavorful and had a good number of wontons. Frankly, this was the best dish but not nearly enough to save a dinner that was largely inedible and wound up in the trash. Some places just don't deserve your business and this is one of them. I'll never go back to China Star and I recommend everyone avoid this hot mess of a Chinese restaurant. read more

I happened to be walking past China Star last night on my way to Publix when Steven called and said he was thinking of picking up Chinese from our usual spot. I told him I'd duck in here since I was literally 3 steps away. I placed my order and then ran into Publix so there was no wait time for me. One large eggdrop soup (I wasn't very hungry) and one medium sized house lo mein for him. When I got home I happily started slurping on my soup. The initial bite was very "eggy", more so than I am used to, but it didn't stop me from finishing half the container. Steven ate less of his lo mein than usual and said it was "meh" when I asked him. I tried a bite and agreed it wasn't anything special. The color of the noodles was a bit different than we're used to and it seemed as though this was extra Americanized. The location is great for me since I'm often at this Publix as it's next to my Orange Theory, so I won't write off giving them another try, but there wasn't anything special. PROS - quick, average prices to competitors and the portions were quite large. CONS - taste was a bit off. read more

I observed the staff prepping in the kitchen by placing a baking sheet on top of a full size open garbage bin on wheels, using it as a prep area base for the sheet pan. The male cook used a paper towel to wipe his hands and discarded the used towel in the garbage bin that held the sheet pan, while the other staff were making what looked like dumplings on the sheet pan. I didn't observe anyone wearing gloves. I spoke to the staff behind the counter and asked if they were aware of the food being prepped on a garbage bin. The manager said he didn't speak English and basically dismissed me. I cancelled my order and was refunded my money. As a restaurant owner of more than 20 years, I have never seen anything so blatant and will not be returning to this establishment. read more

I was amazed that South Florida has a lack of good and authentic Chinese restaurants, especially considering the population density and good climate. Check Yelp for the Ft Lauderdale area and find a Chinese restaurant that gets good marks from locals and visitors alike. You will have a difficult time. China Star had a fairly good number of good reviews and I was craving Chinese, so I gave it a shot. I ordered hot & sour soup, fried dumplings and Szechuan shrimp and took the order back to the hotel. The soup was ok, but nothing special. It could have used some more vinegar and/or pepper to make it stand out. The dumplings were nondescript and a bit on the greasy side and lacking in flavor. I wish I had listened to other reviews and opted for the vegetable dumplings instead of the meat stuffed variety. The szechuan shrimp was a gloppy mess, emulating the worst of Americanized Chinese food, little flavor, no garlic, no ginger, no heat but lots of starch and grease. After dining in Chinese restaurants in areas with great Chinese places such as Boston, LA and San Fran, this was a big let down. read more

This was a waste. Everything looked good and my wife liked hers but mine was awful. I go 3 items. 1. Hot and sour soup. It was burned. They must have had the temp too high and failed to stir it because all I could taste is burned tofu. 2. Honey garlic. This is my favorite of favorite dishes but there is an easy way to see if they make it well. The honey has to be cooked in a wok onto the fried chicken chunks. The thing is that if done right the crispy shell will remain crispy. If they use too little honey, too much water, or don't cook it down enough then the chicken will get soggy. So to avoid this places that can't make it correctly will serve the sauce on the side which just ruins the whole thing for me. I got sauce on the side. 3. Pork Lo Mein. This wasn't bad. I it had flavor and was hot. It was a little oily but not enough to deter me. If I have to order from here again, I will get this again next time. But I will not order food from here again if I can help it. read more

When you place an order anywhere your first impressions are likely going to be on the phone. So getting someone who is semi professional would help China Star. The only professional part of my order over the phone was them answering the phone... I told the girl my order (1 order of sweet and sour chicken) then she promptly asked " okay, is that it?"
