We love Helen Huang's Mandarin House! It's definitely one of our favorite places in Hollywood, Florida. The restaurant has a charming, traditional, old-world feel that reminds you of the classic Chinese restaurants many of us grew up with. The food has consistently been served fresh, hot, and flavorful, just as it should be. Their dinner specials are well-priced, and the service has always been friendly and attentive. We especially appreciate that the egg rolls are freshly cooked rather than sitting around in a tray--they come out hot and crispy. And the Pu Pu Platter is always a favorite! The only area that could use a little attention are the restrooms, which could benefit from some updating. Otherwise, we always enjoy coming here. I was introduced to this place several years ago and have been hooked ever since. It is clean, the service is great, the owner and staff are friendly, portions are great, and the food is amazing! My personal favorite is the crispy noodles/subgum. It has pork, shrimp, and chicken; snow peas, baby corn, water chestnuts, carrots, broccoli; and a dark sauce all atop crispy noodles. It is so good! My boyfriend loves the crispy roast duck. He really enjoyed it. This was his first time here and we will def be back more often. Helen is very friendly as well and always stops by to say hello. Flew in late from New York and needed a place close to our hotel and found this place open at 930pm. Food was delicious and came out super quick and with great portions . Love this place. Small Chinese restaurant off the main strip in Hollywood. Food is great, we do take-out all the time. Dining in is also great, they have a large fish tank when you walk in so it's nice to watch. They have great hot tea and their poo poo platter is an awesome shareable. Are the bell pepper mold or from cooking? We planned to have dinner at Miami tennis Open but I didn't realize (so me...) that I purchased qualifying round which means they close shop early. We're hungry. And found this Chinese, on the way to home with 4 star rating. So Helen's it is. Meter parking. Upon entering, the fish tank perks me up. At 7pm on a Tuesday, it's empty. There is only one couple. The decor is dated and dark. I see two women, one serves us and one is working around the dining hall, like restoring or the like. I asked if they've Chinese menu, she said no. We've ma po tofu 麻婆豆腐and shredded pork Sichuan style. We've been sweating under the sun at the matches and wanted salt. The hot tea is soothing. (at bill time did I know it's free, so is the rice.) They've wine by the glass but I didn't order which is rare. Something isn't right. Both dishes are sweet. Ha ... And as we're winding down and I'm picking on the last few strains of bell pepper, I see the mold. Horrified, I told the woman who comes to ask if we've done. She is defensive and asks me if I know how to cook and the 'molds' are the birthmark of the wok. "But they're so tiny and concise, how could a wok make such marks?" The woman goes away and returns with a container full of sliced bell pepper, raising her voice, "this is what we use. We don't use moulded bell pepper..." To be fair to them, I showed the photo to a few Chinese friends who cook, mold or cooking marks. Their answers, without knowing the above story, mold. Oh well. What do you think? read more

At least for vegetarians this place was great. It has a separate menu dedicated to plates that have no fish sauce, no oyster sauce and no other non-vegetarian sauces. I had the cabbage with tofu and really enjoyed it. My friend had the 3 mustakeers and also had a nice meal. It's unpretentious and has been around for years. They serve hot tea complimentary as well as fried egg noodle. Parking can be tricky during high traffice days and the only option here is either on the street or heading toward a public parking lot (which may not be close) I found prices to be very reasonable and food quality to be high. Order Dinner for two. Chicken Chow Mein, Chicken Lo Mein, Crab Ragoon, and Honey Garlic Chix Wings. The dinners came with soup, rice, and an egg roll. My husband chose the pork fried rice, worth the $2, it was good! My non pork fried rice had wayyy less flavor than his. Next time I would order the pork fried rice even tho I'm not a pork fan. My first disappointment was the portion size. The Lo and Chow mein were in small containers. WTF?! His Chow Mein was really good! My Lo Mein on the otherhand was overcooked and almost crunchy but had good flavor overall. My second disappointment was the crab ragoon. The filling wasn't sweet at all and it had ALOT of chopped garlic, it was weird. But on a high note, the wings were tasty AF! I would get the wings again. Over all the food was good, I would def try again because I think Helen's has potential and I need to find a go to Chinese joint in Hollywood. The atmosphere is so chill and relaxing. It could have been because it's Sunday and it's raining and Hollywood boulevard is under construction but who gives a s***. I happily came across this amazing establishment walking around Hollywood Boulevard recently. Being a native New Yorker and a lover of nyc's Chinatown, I can tell you that this is probably one of the best Chinese food spots I have ever been to in my life. The service is excellent. The food is delicious, well prepared, and well presented. The prices are excellent, and the amount of food served definitely matches the money you are paying for it, which again is very reasonable for South florida. Helen's has been an absolute staple restaurant in my family for years and years and years. I'm shocked that I haven't already reviewed it, but I'm so glad to get around to it now and tell the world how amazing this place is. We've been going here on special occasions for years - Christmas, Hanukkah, most recently - Mother's Day (a few days ago). The quality of food here is SO consistently good, and the service is just as good. The staff are so kind, helpful and courteous. Although some say the interior could be updated, it doesn't even matter because the food is that good. Plus, you can always dine on the patio right in the swing of things in Downtown Hollywood. Now to the realllll good stuff, the food! Eggrolls: literally the best egg rolls in Florida. My family is usually more of a spring roll family, but we cannot resist these egg rolls. So good! Wonton soup: delicious and just the right amount of filling Crispy orange beef: This dish is a non-negotiable!!!! This is by far the best dish on the menu and my favorite chinese food plate anywhere in the world. The beef is SO crispy on the outside, but perfectly tender on the inside.
