Food is alright, this was my second time visiting this restaurant. The portions are much bigger than I remembered so come here hungry! I also ordered a veggie bun which was genuine and much bigger than I expected and extremely filling. My other dish was the wonton noodle dish, the wontons were a bit small and there weren't too many of them in the dish so I was a bit disappointed. The service was good, the guy wiped down the table for me before I sat down which I wasn't expecting. I will most likely come here again when I'm craving noodles and try out a new dish. read more

My partner and I visited China Station for lunch with a couple friends and it was everything that we could have wanted. Although seating was minimal, it was comfortable. We ordered the wonton, beef tendon, beef tendon and tripe hand pulled noodle soups as well as the "Brown source" pork rice noodle soup. We loved all of the soups especially the tripe but we didn't really like the brown source soup as compared to the other dishes. When taking home leftovers, we were charged 25 cents per container which we were surprised by. Overall it's a good place that we will return to for more good soup. read more

As good to authentic hand pulled noodles as it can get! Very large portions on the noodles that will leave you feeling stuffed and tasty broths to finish those noodles up with. They serve very popular sides such as baos, dumplings, intestines, and other Chinese faves. The buns may not always be soft for being out too long, but when you're craving a good bun with red bean paste inside you know where to look. They take card over here and seating here can be a little tight since it tends to get very busy from students and other people living around the area. Sitting down here to eat might get a little messy since people come in and out too quickly for staff to clean the table and eating noodles is best done via slurping :). read more

China Station is my favorite restaurant in the Stony Brook area. It's across the street from the LIRR, which is easily accessible by SBU students through our buses. China Station serve large portions of food at reasonable prices. The chefs are amazing and the food comes out fast enough that you hardly feel like you waited. They have noodles, congee, dumplings, rice dishes, soup, and more. Some of my favorites include their house special hand pulled noodle soup and their mala saute pot. *****NOODLE HOUSES ON EVERY CORNER IN STONY BROOK***** Stony Brook now has 3 Noodle Houses. What a time to be alive. Very similar in concept to 1089 and Splendid Noodle, albeit with more of a focus on noodles and dumplings. Any doubt that their noodles are not "hand-pulled" can be cast aside as the large open kitchen lets customers watch the chefs pull the long noodles and prepare dumplings. According to the menu, they sell their dumplings frozen in 50 packs. The open kitchen is great, but compared to Green Tea next door which uses an open kitchen that only runs alongside one edge of the room and is separated by a barrier, the open kitchen in China Station contains most of the physical space of the restaurant. There is bar seating along a wall and a counter, and some tables along one side of the room. It's evident this was designed to be no frills fast casual/take out. Most of their business so far must be Chinese, since they responded with "ni hao" when I called for pickup (the two times I've run in, the vast majority of customers were were asian). Onto the food, I've tried 3 things so far: Bok Choy Pork Bun ($1.25): I've had better ones in various Chinatowns, but for the price in this location, it's great! Lots of soft breading, so very filling. Scallion Pancakes ($2.50 half serving/$5.00 full serving): These were great. Beware though--a half serving is actually huge. Beef Noodle Soup ($7.75): Huge serving, the noodles were absolutely delicious and the broth was great. Similar to the 1089 dish except the broth was a little bit thicker. I wish there was more beef muscle; it was very tender (moreso than 1089). I'm no expert on this dish; I think they put a lot of tendon/collagen in, which while probably really helping the flavor, I didn't attempt to eat... FINAL VERDICT: Great cheap take-out option to complement 1089 near the Train Station. Can't wait to try all their noodle dishes. read more

Worst soup and general tsos I've ever had. The service was fine but the food was so disgusting that we threw out most of it.

The restaurant only provide normal service to Americans because they can sue. If they think you're international student they will be rude. Portions for the price is very small. I been to there everyday for a few weeks because I'm fine with the portion until decreased everyday I come in. Probably because they remember I come everyday. They always cleared away my dishes after I finish and never asked for tips since this restaurant you pay upfront. They never clarified otherwise. Until the last time when I spent $4 on some dry and terrible pork buns and they told me rudely (not asking but telling me) before leaving that I need to clean up the dishes before I leave and that I need to tip?! They said don't ever come back after I refused. This is a very illogical and poor service for a restaurant that never clarified that I need to clean up or tip the 10 times I been there before. I spent $4 and they want me to tip! Needless to say don't go there if you expect good food and service. read more

This is the most delicious and authentic Chinese food on Long Island. The people were so warm, the food was so good and hot, and that Walnut puff is amazing! For the first 15 minutes we couldn't stop talking about how good the food is. The noodles were filled with veggies and it was the perfect ratio of noodles to vegetables. My friend ate the beef soup and she loved it. The noodles in that looked like sweet potato noodles or glass noodles. All I can say is we'll be back. Yummy!! read more

would not go here again. ordered simple general tsos white rice and broccoli. The chicken itself was hard take bites of, was extremely chewy, probably the worst parts of the chicken. The rice was fine, a bit mushy though. But my main complaint is that the brocccoli was COLD and both the broccoli and chicken tasted like fish. I'm assuming they used the same pan or water they used to cook fish which made it taste horrible. Could not finish the dish. This is probably my favorite spot for authentic Chinese food at an extremely reasonable price. Their pork and leek pan fried dumplings are the best in the area. In addition, I believe all of their noodle and rice dishes are absolutely delicious. I would love to say something negative but I really can't because every time I've been there for dinner - I've felt happy about spending my money. Utterly disappointing northern Chinese noodle restaurant in Stony Brook. So far I really been enjoying the more authentic Chinese restaurants popping up in the area but this one is as far removed from the flavors of Beijing as one can get. Ordered the lamb noodles and though the hand pulled noodles are fine, the broth is simply flavorless except being heavy on black pepper. The lamb itself isn't marinated, very chewy and 90% fat. Service is awful, one will be served while the other waits and waits. Seating is cramped and very uncomfortable as well. Luckily it's very cheap. It you want fantastic hand pulled noodles, head to Flushing Queens. Not going to be back and not recommended. read more

This hole-in-the-wall Chinese noodle shop was just what the Dr. ordered on a cold December night in the middle of Long Island. Had the beef noodle soup and an order of pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings. Personally, I am a huge dumpling fan and China Station did not disappoint! Crispy outer shell with perfectly doughy inner shell filled flavorful pork cabbage filling. Beef noodle soup was solid. Another awesome noodle joint in Stony Brook. The best and only dish you should be getting here is their noodle soups (beef noodle soup, etc). Avoid the side dishes like the dumplings and scallion pancakes because they just aren't up to par. The noodles are fantastic - hand pulled and fresh. The broth is rich and flavorful - has the right amount of oil and spices to make the dish fantastic. They also give you a ton meat! Unlike splendid noodle where you get maybe 4 slices of beef, here you get 6 or 7 bigger, thicker slices. A huge bonus, I'd say. Also I prefer the fried chili sauce here over Splendid Noodle's. It has a hint of garlic to it and (this may irk some people) it is not spicy at all. How is a chili sauce able to be "not spicy"? I have no idea, ask the manager here. I will be alternating between here and Splendid Noodle for my beef noodle soups. read more

Cheap authentic Chinese food, one of the best in this area. The pork/veggie buns and dumplings are average. Thick dough and okay filling, nothing too special. Their spicy pots are huge (enough for 2-3) and tasty, I would recommend getting this again, though beware of the spice level. Moderate is fairly spicy, the type of Szechuan spice that numbs your tongue. Their noodle soups are good and well portioned, nothing too special, but they will satisfy your cravings. The scallion pancakes are thick and extremely oily, I would steer away from these. Lastly, they have traditional Chinese side dishes (tendons, pigs ear, etc) for a good price. The place is small and usually crowded with lines going out the door. Service is very fast so you don't have to wait long, but it may be difficult to get a table. If you do manage to get a table, just know that you'll be elbow to elbow with your neighbors. read more

Having come to visit Stony Brook from Los Angeles - San Gabriel Valley, I suppose I may have already been spoiled by the numerous Asian food options available in SoCal. In other words, I am accustomed to paying less money for food that at least matches the quantity and quality of what is offered at China Station. Nevertheless, I will attempt to write this review as objectively as possible (although all reviews are of course subjective to some degree). Based on the low number of restaurant options alone in this suburban area and the generally increased costs of food in the New York State when compared to California, the pricing is very fair for the portion. I ordered the wonton hand-pulled noodles: the noodles were springy enough, but the wontons were on the flavorless side. The service is okay although it may be somewhat detached, but that doesn't really bother me. The number of seating spaces is small so it can get very cramped, and the cleanliness is just okay, but not the best. Parking in the back may be a hellhole due to the limited number of spots. Overall, this place is just okay for my tastes, but if I am a poor Stony Brook student with very limited options but have a sudden craving for authentic Asian food, then I can see how this place can be very appealing. read more

Dirt cheap, and huge portions. Warning: When they say the spicy bowls are spicy it really is. I ordered the medium the first time I went and it was about as hot as I can handle. Since I have been going a LOT now I have moved up to medium spicy again. This is coming from someone that usually gets spicy Indian food all the time. So if it is your first time and you order something off the spicy list, get it "little" spicy. The people working there are friendly to non Chinese as well which isn't always the case with authentic Chinese restaurants. English is clearly the second language here, but they have the menu in English and most of the signs have a translation. The hand pulled noodles are excellent, and I really like the spicy soup bowls too. The dumplings in the spicy soup bowls are outstanding. I showed up before the actually started cooking at 4:45pm and had no idea they closed for a break time (3-5) but they were nice enough to let me in so did freeze my butt off outside. I almost gave 5 star but 1 star less is for the size of the restaurant. It's a self serve which I didn't mind but when I had to carry the noodle soup it was little cramped. But for the food, it was very good and authentic. I ordered a beef noodle soup, a beef tendon soup, and pork/cabbage pan fried dumpling. The soups were great with richness in broth served with bok choy and cilantro. The dumpling were really good. It was pork but doesn't have any weird pork flavor. I ended up taking more for Togo. This review is purely based on the food/flavor. I got a bowl of beef ho-fun, braised pork rib pulled noodles and some chicken dumplings. The noodle quality is okay, I'd prefer mine a bit more Al dente, and it was apparent they didn't rinse off with cold water after boiling them as some stuck together in clumps. The chicken dumplings are good. They taste a bit lighter than the traditional pork and chives filling. I prefer the wrapping of my dumpling to be as thin as possible, the ones here are a bit thick, though that's expected for homemade dumplings. This is a Chinatown-esque noodles/dumpling joint, don't be surprised if there is a fly or two in the dining room. Matter fact I almost got stung by one of the hornets that were flying around! Nonetheless, the flavors here are really solid. This is a great place to visit if you don't feel like making the trip to flushing. read more

China Station will definitely become a regular for me. As for the actual soup, I got the beef noodle soup. The noodles were chewy, not overcooked. Was really looking forward to trying this place. Took the family there Saturday for lunch. The experience was underwhelming at best... The parking in the back is small and is shared by about 3 other establishments. So be prepared to find parking elsewhere. We got there at about 12:30pm, and the place was packed. We decided to wait...since the crowd was a good sign that we would be in for a good meal. We got a table and I preceeded to the counter to place my order. Out of mei fun, out of haw fun...really? At 12:30? No big deal, we ended up ordering 3 bowls of wonton noodle soup and some dumplings. The dumplings were out quick, but the noodles took a little longer. So we started working on the dumplings. It was clear these were not freshly made, the could have be reheated from the freezer from the way they tasted. Eatible, but very disappointing. Then the noodle soups came out. The soup was bland, no taste at all...no joke. Put some soy sauce in to give it since flavor. It was not very enjoyable to eat. Both my son and I left half of it uneaten and we left. The highlight of the meal was going next door to 7-11 to get Slurpees. In terms of convenience for the students on campus and cost, I guess it's OK. But frankly I found the quality of the food poor. If you have means of transportation, make the drive too Red Tiger, they'll screw up your order a few times over there, but once they get it right, it's at least fresh and taste good. read more

My favorite restaurant. You have to try the Spicy Fish Ball Soup. Absolutely delicious. You first ask yourself if you have the right soup. It is not spicy at first. Just wait, it will not disappoint and will soon be a favorite. I have tried every dumpling and I love them all. The Beef Stew and Tendons over rice is also very tasty. My next try is the hot pot. Cant wait. My father, My son, and I get together on the weekends and try something new from China station. We all love it. We crave the food from this place.
