We ate as a party of 13 friends at the China Village located at Solano Ave, Albany near Berkely yesterday night on 5/21/26. The restaurant is located conveniently by itself across the sidewalk from parking. All you need to do to get there is cross a short sidewalk. The area felt clean and safe. When we arrived and walked in, we were greeted by many nice, beautiful and hospitable ladies who were to be our waiters and led to a private "Dragon" party room near the back. In the front were standard tables and a lot of pretty Chinese decor from Gold to Dragons. There were bathrooms separated by gender and area located near the front. There was also a fish tank full of sea-life such as Crabs and Fishes and Lobsters that were on the Chinese Cuisine's Menu. It was a very laid back vibe and very quiet and peaceful and relaxing. In the back, were we were seated, the tables had comfortable chairs and a round spinning table like something you would find at Chinese Dim Sum. The atmosphere felt very relaxed and easy-going and brought us back to feeling like we were in China or Shanghai's Nightlife. The waiter's service was great, they constantly came to check in on us and were very personable and formidable and made nice small talk with us and chatted and it felt like they were close friends which each waiter should strive to be. Our table was filled with neat napkins to wipe, put on your lap and to double as a handkerchief with, silverware, a glass of fresh water not tap as well as herbal fresh tea that was simmered just right with a hint of bitterness you would expect from fresh tea with leaves. We ordered and the food was promptly brought out almost immediately with little wait time. This restaurant is known for their fresh Chinese spark of Sichuan(Spicy) and Mala(Spicy) as well as Seafood(Seafood), once again it felt like we were transported back into the luxurious city of China. This was very authentic and fresh Chinese food, not like the fake food that is AmeriChinese like Panda Express. We ordered delicious food such as clams and oysters which were paired with a lot of extra garnish to truly bring out their wonderful shelly flavor, beautiful and delicious small crustacean prawns and shrimp that tasted fresh from the sea, Spicy Mala/Sichuan Beef as well as Fish which were pretty spicy yet savory, Yangzhou Fried Rice with the perfect amount of veggies and beef, Honeybee Lobster that was golden crisp, Orange Chicken that was not as sweet as many fake Chinese places make them so these were the authentic real deal, Pork and Shrimp Dumplings which were nicely coated and didnt fall apart, Shellfish which were deliciously chewy, Scallops which were very tasty and more. The food was very clean and fresh, they had a rich savory seafood taste and aroma and tasted like the deep blue ocean, and most of the food came with a side of unique sauce that was to be best paired individually with each unique dish. The service was great, the waiters were very attentive and attentful with their service, constantly refilling our glasses and helping us make way and navigate around our big party of guests and limited spaces to make way for new dishes to glaze our table. Everyone was full, we were not rushed and came out feeling very refreshed and sleepy as the food was so so delicious. Fair price! I attached some pictures below of what I had, if anyone is in the nearby area, I encourage you to come try the food at this delicious and authentic Chinese restaurant. Even if you are not in the immediate area, this place is worth a drive as we did coming from the Solano Area all the way here just to sample this delicious food from a mutual friend's wonderful recommendations. We are sure to come back in the near future to try their delicious other menus offerings and we are confident that we will be equally if not more impressed with their offerings the second time around as well. Heading here during Lunar New Year maybe not the best idea, but also so refreshing to see China Village full of such a great crowd. This is hands down one of my favorite spots to grab Chinese food on Solano Ave. and in the area. They also now have some special dim sum items if it's been a minute since the last time you've dined here! Did I mention also a full bar? That was a pleasant surprise! China Village was the first meal I had delivered after I came home post-birth, so it will forever have a special place in my heart :) Favorite items? Pork bao buns, Sesame Chicken Breast (always), Homemade Chowmein with any protein, and there's a dish that I've been thinking about since we've ordered it..Shredded Pork Sautéed with Dry Bean Curd. Delicious! The fried rice, the soup(s), the potstickers..there's not one item here I haven't enjoyed. This is a big restaurant and service is fast, or at least what we've experienced. Would love to actually try the Chicken Breast with Honey Glazed Walnuts, the Cauliflower with Shredded Pork, and more from the dim sum menu. Fair pricing. It is our tradition to place food orders on Christmas Eve, and while our orders are usually timely, we anticipate a delay on this particular evening. Upon arrival, a substantial queue had formed, and we joined the line to await our turn. Several individuals approached the front desk, informing the staff that they had pre-arranged orders and inquiring about the expected wait time. However, they were met with an unresponsive stare, prompting many to leave. After an hour and a half, we finally received our food, which unfortunately very cold. Free tea!!! Finally!! I have been searching for another Chinese/Asian restaurant that doesn't charge $1 for tea and this is the place. Fast service, great Chinese food and the 5 Spice seasoning wasn't too apparent/overwhelming but delicious. Fast and attentive service. This place is great for family style/sharing food, you get full off a few dishes by eating with rice. I'd definitely come back and try more dishes- the menu is huge! I've come here for amazing Szechuan spicy fish and dumplings, but today went with my mom's fav egg foo young (best I've ever had) and scallop and shrimp xoxo stirfry. Very tasty and hospitable! We ordered two of their famous dishes: the pork shoulder and the fish soup with chillis on top. The pork shoulder was so fall-apart tender and the sauce was well balanced- nicely savory and slightly spicy. The fish soup was called the west-style 1000 chilli pepper fish fillet in chicken broth and despite its name, isn't spicy at all! The chilli peppers are for fragrance leaving a flavorful white broth with tender fish. Our server was super sweet, nice, and fun :) thank you! read more

Visited China Village with a friend on a Thursday night before closing and received really warm services and delicious food. The restaurant has been with its original owner and chef for 40 years and the food quality and hospitality remain very high. after years of ordering an thoroughly enjoying this restaurant I received an order of BBQ PORK for $19 that was not edible ! the pieces were all dime sized , not slices , like little leftover pieces that were left in the cutting board after a day of cutting it up ! the delicious moist slices that used to be served were non existent! ! some pieces were so overcooked they were mahogany color and not chewable ! when I called to explain there was no compensation offered and the excuse was they have a new Chef! Michelin recommended restaurant that has been a neighborhood favorite for many years. We came here for a special family meal and had many dishes. What was good: the tea smoked duck was the best dish we had. We also enjoyed the Singapore rice noodles, the pea shoots, green beans, sweet & sour prawns, sesame mochi balls & sweet bean paste-filled panfried pancakes. What was alright: spicy won tons, panfried chow mein topped with cabbage & meats. I was not a fan of the Westlake soup (the meat was tough & chewy), the rib eye & cilantro dish (both the beef & cilantro were hard & chewy) or the mochi ball dessert soup which had diced raw onions in it. Food- 3/5 because my brother-in-law said Szechuan Chicken was not what he expected. Everything else was good Service- 3/5. Felt rushed by the staff. We asked for 5 minutes to decide on our orders. He came back in 3 minutes. He brought the check while we were in the middle of eating our meals. Not sure what his rush was. Happy that I was able to check this place off of our list. I have been a regular customer of China Village for many years. I am a big fan of their clay pot dishes, and last night I ordered Changsha shrimp. The meal was tasty as always. The waiters were accommodating and fun and the atmosphere was inviting. But for the first time at China Village I experienced a negative msg reaction. When I got home my mouth was puckered and dry and I had trouble falling asleep: classic reaction to too much msg. I recently tried China Village with a buddy. He said it was on one of the Michelin guides so I figured I'd give it a go! We ordered several dishes including the green beans, beef in chili oil, Dan Dan noodles in sesame, and pork shank. The green beans were excellent. Soft and well seasoned with the perfect kick. The pork shank in sauce was also awesome with a generous portion and tasty sauce. IMO the star of the show was the beef in chili oil. There was a super large portion that also contained some cabbage and veg. I will say say that the Dan Dan noodles were pretty underwhelming so that takes them down a notch, but otherwise the food was excellent. The vibe inside was solid. Clearly a family joint that draws in a lot of locals. The servers were nice and offered some recommendations for us. I will definitely come back for more of that beef and green beans! read more

I have eaten at this restaurant for years I have always had a positive experience even when they were really busy; the waiters are always friendly and the food is always tasty and the portions are very generous. When he visited here senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont visited this restaurant which for Democratic town like this meant a lot the atmosphere is always very well lit with nice music playing and the floor and tables are always clean I recommend eating here if you like quality food and a beautiful environment. Like others, I'm baffled at the mediocre reviews for this place. We just discovered it a few months ago and it's been outstanding every time. Every dish we've tried has been at least good - fresh ingredients, full of flavor, well-cooked, big portions. And then there are some that we can't help but keep ordering, even though we know it's a big menu and everything else is probably as delicious as our favorites. Our favorites? - 1000 pepper chicken - so spicy and flavorful, and lots of extra dried chilis if you want to amp it up - ma po tofu (hot bean curd) - different than other ma pos. No meat, soft tofu, in more of a chili oil than usual ma po sauce. - green beans - just a no-brainer. Our 8 year old daughter would eat the whole order. - cumin lamb - my husband's favorite, he insists on it every time - spicy boiled fish fillet - so much flavor, no bones in the fish - eggplant - it's kind of roasted so eat-in version is better than takeout but even takeout has great flavor - chow mein with homemade noodles - just the right amount of chewiness in the noodles read more

I went to China Village with a group of four on a Thursday evening, and we were pleasantly surprised to get seated pretty quickly despite it being a weekday. The waiter wasted no time in bringing us hot tea and water. For our meal, we ordered the boiled fish, cumin lamb, 1000 chili pepper chicken, and a side of white rice. The cumin lamb was a hit with its perfect level of spiciness and the lamb cooked just right - juicy and tender. The boiled fish was another winner, with a mouthwatering szechuan peppercorn-infused sauce that made the soft fish even more enjoyable when paired with the rice. The table favorite was the 1000 chili pepper chicken (not pictured). It was a delightful mix of crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It came with a bunch of dried chilies, which you could munch on to crank up the heat, but honestly, it had just the right amount of spice for me. A good restaurant gone to the dogs. My husband and I discovered China Village Restaurant prior to its discovery and feature on the PBS program "Check Please." We had dined there frequently, introduced our family and friends there, and threw several big family celebratory bashes for our Chinese relatives. It was our "go-to" Chinese restaurants. We had favorite dishes we would order. The restaurant closed due to a fire a year before Covid. During Covid, we ordered food "to-go." My Mom complained about how sloppy and greasy the food was. I chalked it up to Covid. My husband and I had the opportunity to return 4 years later, after the pandemic had ended. We were a party of 12 and our hostess made prior arrangements for separate checks for the entire party. My husband and I ordered our favorite dishes. Dry cooked string beans. fish with wine sauce and Chunqing Chicken. The only good dish was the dry cooked string beans. The fish with wine sauce was too salty but edible. The Chunqing Chicken was better but had too much Sichuan peppercorns so it was too salty. The service was horrendous. A member of the party, one of the celebrants, had to wait 1 hour for her seafood dish. even though we had asked repeatedly about when it would arrive. Beside forgetting her dish, the food was served piecemeal.Our beans came, and we were nearly done with it before our fish arrived, and the Chunqing Chicken did not arrive until we were done with the fish. Other members of the party also had to wait for the staff to take and bring their orders. Finally, when the bill came, it was on one check, not separate checks as agreed on beforehand. It took some time before someone broke out the bill. Given how the food service was organized before the fire vs the food service is now, it is clear that two different teams managed and operated China Village restaurant in the different periods. The old China Village that won all the rave reviews from us and "Check Please" is no more. We would not return and cannot recommend China Village to anyone. read more

As someone who came here pretty regularly but hadn't been back since before the pandemic, I can't speak for others but I can definitely speak for myself. The dishes I ordered were every bit as good as I remembered. Menu highlights include the Thousand Chilis Fish Soup, Sizzling Seafood Claypot, and the Cumin Lamb. China Village specializes in Sichuan Cuisine, so that's always going to be the best thing you can order. We had a delicious birthday brunch that my Chinese wife thought very authentic. Popcorn chicken was yummy as was the garlic filet of sole and steamed beef.
