Spring roll made special with pork only.
    Cian D.

A hidden gem that I am overjoyed to have found. I love fresh spring rolls and their Vietnamese spring rolls are amazing. They're refreshing, well wrapped and served with hoisin and chopped peanuts. I can't get enough. I've been sick the last few days and have called in an order twice now. The woman I spoke to could not have been kinder! I'm so excited to try the rest of the menu. They have spicy bean curd which I can't wait for. They also have small and large sizes for most of their menu, making it more accessible and easier to try more things. An easy 5 stars!

Fresh spring rolls with Hoisin sauce

I had the fresh spring rolls with Hoisin sauce and they were a treat. These rolls were filled with fresh cut pork and shrimp, stuffed with crisp vegetables and herbs that paired perfectly with the sauce. The owners are always friendly and diligent. They are determined to make sure you are getting the peak flavor experience. I've seen them turn away orders when they were super busy as it would have sacrificed quality. If you order to go they work hard to time your order to arrival time so nothing sits under a heat lamp. I've had the pho before as well and it a delight. There are only a few Vietnamese items on the menu but each one I've tried has been prepared to perfection.

Oh the food was delicious, especially love the veggies in there with the sweet-and-sour chicken. I haven't had it this way in a long time. The service was quick it definitely doesn't lack character, the lady who works upfront thank you, you truly made me and feel right at home.

So when I was in college, I worked for a little Chinese Book store. Every Saturday I would help the elderly owners carry groceries from the local China town. In thanks, Mrs Cheng would give me a Chinese home cooking lesson. Let me tell you. The "potstickers" or "jaiozi" as they are called in China, ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS I MADE WITH MRS CHENG! Actually, the China Wok ones are bigger! Totally the taste of home. We placed a large order for company coming over and it was such a fabulous feast. In particular the Orange Beef, the Wushu pork, and the egg foo yung were wonderful. Plus the restaurant is delightful inside Sooooo Chinese! And the staff really peppy and gracious! This is the place for Chinese food in the area!

Kelly was in rare form when we went and was entertaining to say the least. Didn't run us the wrong way like others, but I can understand how her act can wear thin fast. I did have an issue with some of the prices and food portions though- way too expensive for what you get. I ordered the shrimp, and we're talking 5 or 6 shrimps, with 100 onions and green peppers and sauce. That's it! Come on. And the "large" platters were not large at all. I didn't think any of the food had that "wow" factor - just very standard and subpar.

Fried rice was yellow rice with some onions, very sad rice with no flavor at all. Hardly traditional fried rice. Was given a 25 minute estimate. Got there at 20 minutes and waited almost 30 more for my order. The huge tub of brown gravy they give you is ridiculously large for the amount needed for the entree and scalding hot temperature. The container it comes in has a lid that is impossible to remove without spilling the full sauce all over. There are no sauce packets out for you to grab like most Chinese take out places have and when the bag was handed to me all sealed up I assumed (wrongly) that they had thrown some sauces in. My bad for assuming. They did throw fortune cookies in. Ugly: The General Tso chicken was inedible. The unrecognizable chunks of "chicken" were so stringy and tough and full of cartridge more than half of them could not be eaten and had to be spit out. The sauce also had no heat (menu shows a spicy symbol) and really no flavor like traditional General Chicken you would expect. Our total order exceeded the amount ($21 before tax) listed on the menu for 3 free crab rangoon which I asked for when I ordered. When I got there they charged me for the rangoon but I didn't notice that until I got home. This is our 3rd disappointing visit in a row. I realize it's the only Chinese in town and everyone in Bethalto loves it but it's really sad that it doesn't live up to the hype.

Every entree or appetizer I order, pleases my taste buds. There Crab Rangoon is the bomb. You get 8 big pieces, so if you're a single person, it easily can be a meal. I've added an Egg Roll to the order and presto, I've got a meal. Their Egg Rolls are crisp and crunchy. My favorite main dishes are; General Tso, Beef & Broccoli, Orange Chicken, Hot Pepper Chicken and Beef Fried Rice. Today, I'll add the St Paul Sandwich. When I first moved to the Eastside of the river, none of the Chinese restaurants offered a St. Paul. Just recently, China King added them to the menu and they're doing a fine job preparing them. Since moving over here and dining at China King, the staff has revolved and improved. Most speak broken English, but they can still take and get your order prepared correctly. They may not be personable and super friendly, but your food will be delicious.

It was fatty, squishy fried yuck. We were unsure of what exactly the chicken fried rice was, Were there very long layers of noodles or onions on the top of the rice? Nope, it was chicken and it was disgusting. The rice was very small and black. All also thrown away. The egg rolls were tasteless. Bought two sodas. Total $44.00.

I really have 0 complaints. Everything was above average. This isn't 3 Michelins stars kind of good, but it's 5 Stars on Yelp good. I'm hard of hearing so I needed my wife to help hear the woman behind the counter. She was great! Very helpful and even threw an extra bag of crab Rangoon. Still good. I will get this again.

However, I remember it as being a decent place to dine with a good amount of selection and fair prices. Upon entering, I was quite surprised to see that their pricing was still reasonable, however I didn't understand the upcharge for Sunday vs. the weekly buffet price as nothing on that Sunday buffet reflected an upcharge type dish in the slightest. Upon my first trip up to the buffet, I was a bit surprised to see that literally not one item on that buffet had changed in the past 7 years. I guess any kind of variety is out with this place or they don't know how to prepare anything else. At 11 am with a very light crowd present, all of the food was cold, completely unacceptatble having only opened at 10:30 am! Honestly I think the General Tso was the only item I had that was luke warm besides my bowl of soup. Many of the buffet dishes appeared to be leftover from the previous evening - - a good cook can tell what's fresh vs. leftover. The crab ragoons were tough and chewy a telltale sign of having been reheated. The egg rolls appeared to be refried as they were exceptionally dark brown in color. Literally no one was touching them either. The "fresh" seasoned green beans were all shriveled up. The lo mein noodles were swollen, having clearly soaked up all the juices/sauce from being stored and re-served. I think you get the picture here. I guess one might get food that is fresh and warm after all the leftovers have been eaten up by the victims dining at opening time. Good luck with your experience. Also, this place is exceptionally dirty and ran down with black mold on the walls and ceiling. It desperately needs a coat of paint, some new ceiling tiles, flooring, and lighting upgrades. . . fairly inexpensive upgrades and things you think would have changed somewhere along the way in the past 7 years since my last visit.

My order for the evening was; Beef & Broccoli with Fried Rice. I also had, Crab Rangoon (4) and an Egg Roll. The egg roll was super crisp and filling was packed tight. I loved the crunch when I bit into it. The crab rangoon pockets were filled with the creamy sauce and fried to a soft golden color. The Beef and Broccoli was a nice change from my typical order of General Tso. The beef and broccoli was tossed in a rich beef sauce and also had sliced carrots. Both veggies were prepared to the point where they were soft, but still had a good snap. The beef was super, super tender. There was so much sauce, I scooped some it over the fried rice for extra flavor. The staff is super perky. They all said, hello and welcome when I entered the restaurant. Even the cooks, greeted me. I like how you can see into the kitchen from the ordering counter, it is super clean and that makes me feel good. I pass two other Chinese restaurants on my way to Hong Kong House, but it is worth the drive. They have an app for ordering and rewards and I'll be downloading it, very soon.

No. & I'm glad, because I personally don't enjoy PF Chang's, lol. I often get beef fried rice, my husband loves the hot braise chicken. Crab Rangoon is delicious- be sure to get her homemade orange sauce for them! St Paul's are great. The sodas never taste right (maybe over carbonated?), if we are dining in I bring my own drink (& have for 14+ years lol). The place isn't as clean as I'd like, noticeable dust on fixtures and decor, and bathroom leaves a lot to be desired, but again, this isn't a fancy place & I admittedly don't mind because the food is great. Most of their service is carry out, but dine in & usable bathroom are available. Most of the booths are for 4 people, and there are 2 large tables in a middle area that could seat up to 6 each. Would be a good place for families with small children that get overwhelmed in busy establishments, as it's the opposite of busy for dine in (though you'll always see people in and out grabbing carry out). Overall a solid 4 stars from me & if it was cleaned up & soda / tea options it would probably be a 5 - for what it is - delicious, authentic, hole in the wall Chinese food. The owner is so sweet and cooks everything herself - she's there every time we go & prides herself on serving great Chinese food.
