For the main, I couldn't look past the Carne, filetto alla Rossini. 8 oz Black Angus filet, ordered medium. When it came out, it was charred on the outside, super juicy and tender. The flavors were insane. Beef, mushrooms, sauce, all working together. The edges had this crispy texture, and every bite had a smoky note. Straight up heaven. The only downside, it leaned more rare than medium, so I didn't finish it. Still, that first bite? Totally worth it.

Melanzane with gnocchi and papardelle with ragú for the mains. I always love a good papardelle but the ragú was the star of the show. Very hearty and lots of meat in it. For dessert the tiramisu had a great flavor, but seemed like a very small portion. I know RW tends to see smaller portions but this seemed light.... The chocolate cake was very good, especially the ice cream on top. I had to race home to keep it from melting all the way. You can taste and see the vanilla in it. Pretty good meal and good way to start RW. I appreciate the restaurant serving their RW menu for takeout. Not all restaurants do that. I would not recommend getting takeout from here. Shopping mall chic?…read more If you've spent any time near a mall in the suburbs, there are a few staples you'll inevitably come across, one of them being Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse at 2105 S. Spring Rd. Gibsons has long been known as a go-to for a slightly upscale steakhouse experience in the suburbs. I hadn't been in years, but we were in the area and decided to go somewhere a bit nicer for dinner to celebrate my birthday, so we gave Gibsons another try. One highlight was the complimentary valet service, it was quick, easy, and very efficient. The restaurant was busy with lots of families and celebrations. The interior has a classic, almost mob-era steakhouse vibe, reminiscent of old-school 1930s-40s Italian-American dining rooms. Service was friendly and accommodating throughout the night. I ordered an Old Fashioned, and for my entrée I had a ribeye with a side of potatoes and broccoli. My friend ordered a filet mignon salad. We also shared a side salad. The food was solid overall, but the salads were a bit watery, and the ranch dressing was just okay. The steak was good, but not quite the standout I expected given the price point, ribs are close to $70, so expectations are understandably high. Everything felt consistent, but not particularly memorable. That said, Gibsons does feel very steady and familiar, which may be part of its appeal. It's the kind of place people return to because they know exactly what they're going to get. Even the bread was fine, but nothing really stood out as exceptional. One of the more memorable (and amusing) parts of the experience was the birthday tradition. I still can't fully make out what they're saying during the birthday song, it's loud, a bit barked, and honestly both funny and slightly intimidating. I can't decide if I love it or would be terrified by it as a kid. There was also an interesting moment with dessert, my ice cream was placed in a plastic bag inside a box of ice. This was at 6:30 on a busy Friday night, so we were very grateful. The place was packed and a little loud, but we enjoyed watching all the action from our booth. I wish I could post a video of the servers whizzing in and out of the kitchen. They were amazing. And BUSY! So naturally, service was a little slow, but we flagged our waitress when needed. The food made up for any delay. Our drinks were good, and the bread was delicious. I had the garbage salad, which was yummy. Hubby had the sautéed mushrooms with a filet, which was cooked perfectly and very tasty.
