We've been loyal customers for over 20 years, dining often on quiet Tuesday early evenings. The food and service have alway been enjoyable, and we've appreciated the relaxed setting. At our last visit, we were surprised to see $10 corkage fee (though the menu clearly states $5), despite only bringing one bottle. When we politely asked about it, we were told the increase was because we had "stayed a long time" - despite the restaurant being mostly empty. We asked to speak with management, but our request was denied. We're sharing this in the hope of more consistent and transparent policies moving forward. Got carryout on December 23rd. Everybody had the same idea; it was very crowded. The food was great, as always, but that is not the reason for the review. There was a young girl working the front counter; I did not catch her name. She was amazing. She was taking orders over the phone, waiting on carryout customers, keeping management informed how long people were waiting, and doing it all with lightning speed and extreme efficiency. It was a pleasure to watch her work. It is so refreshing to see that kind of work ethic is today's young people. Great job young lady. And to the management; she deserves a raise. read more

Came here for lunch recently and ate inside. I thought it looked kind of lame inside, because it looked a lot like a small town cafe more than a Chinese restaurant. This shows you can't judge completely before getting served. It turned out to not be that bad. They give you free tea. We chose to each share the Spicy Fresh Tofu. It's $9.75 for the only portion, the large. The tofu isn't the firm kind we liked but it was still good flavor and spicy. Big portion for what it costs. If around we could come back here. This place was garbage. Beef w/peapod - meat was a gray color General's Chicken - soupy watery sauce that did not adhere to the chicken. Kinda had an eggy batter too. Blech. Shrimp Fried Rice - had peas and carrots in it. My kid said it was exactly like the fried rice at his high school lunch. It's like pre frozen mix tossed with shrimp. Only reason they are getting one star is because the egg roll were delicious. Had that subtle peanut butter taste. Can't believe this place stays open in Hinsdale. DIRTY. The women's bathroom is been filthy for years. The teapots are dirty and not cleaned well the dispensers for the sweet-and-sour sauce and hot sauce and mustard are not clean when you touch them or the taps where you pour them. I really enjoyed my late lunch here. The food was excellent-- I had a lovely ginger scallion beef dish that was delicious and I brought home leftovers for another lunch even though I was pretty hungry. I came to Hinsdale for a haircut and lunch. I stopped in here and had the Combo Egg Foo Young and BBQ Pork. Both were excellent. The Egg Foo Young was a large portion and light and airy the way it should be. The BBQ pork was excellent. Service was great. Definitely would recommend. read more

Our expectations were hardly grand, but we still expected better. Our first attempt to eat here came via delivery on Postmates. Unfortunately, our driver passed out in his car. That's clearly on him. But the restaurant never picked up its phone either. So I could not confirm what the issue with the order was. And we were left waiting two hours (!!!) for food that never arrived. As maddening as that experience was, we were willing to give Jade Dragon another shot, ordering carry out this time. The food proved to be edible, but hardly worth the wait. The egg rolls were badly undercooked and therefore were tough and chewy. The Szechuan chicken lacked spice--not what you'd expect in a dish renowned for its heat level. In fact, most of the food lacked seasoning. Among the holy quartet of of "salt+fat+acid+heat," this band only played one note and played it loudly: FAT. Our panty's array of hot sauces and chili oils had to make an appearance. The restaurant's saving graces came in the form of the usual Chinese restaurant staples: (1) low-ish prices; (2) big-ish portions, and (3) a bunch of freebie sugar and fortune cookies. But you can get those pretty much anywhere else. And I, for one, suggest you do just that. read more

The Jade Dragon in Hinsdale is one of those unpretentious places (if there is such a place in Hinsdale- now say that with the proper accent - it's Hiiinnnnsdale) that people in the neighborhood flock to. I've come here for lunch as well as ordered take out for dinner and I find the food to be good and the service pleasant every time I go. The food is fresh and prepared just the way I ask for it. If I am ordering take out- they are so quick that the second I put the phone down, I am navigating the 6 blocks to get there as it is always done when I walk in the door. The biggest downside? Well as a family run business, they close down for a couple of weeks each year to take a vacation. Of course, those two weeks are exactly the time I get a major craving for some shrimp subgum or Kung Pao Beef. Hmm . . .You think if I asked nicely they would open up just for me? read more

I had to go to the Hinsdale Hospital ER to visit a friend we got here after dinner so they were hungry so I said hey we can order some food from Jade Dragon down the street they have excellent food. On the GrubHub app we asked for plates and silverware to be delivered with our food our food got here on time I guess what no plates no napkins no silverware no chopsticks we had to ask the nurses in the ER if they could get us some plasticware. Next time you order from G-Dragon through GrubHub you're gonna have to call them and tell them please include plates and silverware. We are very disappointed with how they handle our order. The service is pretty horrible and the waiters are kind of rude and don't really care. They just want your order and move on to the next table. But the food comes out super fast so I can't really complain. Pro tip: Get the "dinner special" it's around $8 and you get a full entree plus soup, an egg roll, and a crab Rangoon. Very good Chinese food. Ambiance is stuck in the 90's though. Orange chicken, bbq pork, sesame beef, fried rice, pot stickers, and crab Rangoon are among our favorites. Awww, Jade Dragon went and got all fancy on me! This place has been here since before most of you little yelpers were on this planet! For years this place had a vacuum cleaner stored by the cash register and some dusty plants in the window. Those are gone now and it makes me a bit sad. In junior high, us "kids that thought we were cool" would walk the few blocks to JD and eat rice with chopsticks and drink tea. Oh ya, we were cooler than cool! They still have all my Americanized Chinese favs from my childhood but now they have fancy schmancy stuff like lettuce wraps, ginger and scallion beef, salt and pepper shrimp and my favorite, the scallops and shrimp with veggies perfectly nested in a pretty basket made of woven noodles! They have the obligatory Chinese restaurant lunch specials where you can get your fattyy on and enjoy soup, eggroll, fried rice and choice of an entree for the incredible price of $5.00-$7.00. Oh yeah! Prices are pretty amazing for Hinsdale. It is a true dining room and service is fast and efficient. I love this place! My family has been ordering here for years, and the recipe and quality hasn't changed. Yes, the food is your standard Americanized Chinese fare, but its AWESOME! A little greasy, but just enough to make it tasty and not make you run for the bathroom. All time favorites are: egg rolls (OMG so good), crab rangoon, egg drop soup, fried rice, sesame chicken, orange beef, beef with black bean sauce, and chicken chow fun. Not sure why so many people seem to claim it's fresh -the chicken seems to be pre-prepared in batter and some very artificial looking and tasting sauces are all that made the difference between an orange chicken and a sweet & sour one. Even though I'd rate this as a 3 star, my husband loves this place (as many others do as well) so I'll bump it up to a 4 star for him. The Hot & Sour soup is not that great but many of the dishes are very good - Govenor's Chicken & Orange Chicken are really hot & spicy and the Kung OPao is great too.
