We were at the Dick Pond's shoe store and noticed MK in the strip mall. Walked in to get a menu and there was no one there. The restaurant looked like it was storage room. Went online and thought it had some different dishes so we decided to order. The woman there gave me a time it would be ready and of course it wasn't ready. Ok. Ordered the basil eggplant and Singapore Mei Fun. Asked if she could hold the salt and MSG. Woman asked me if I have a medical condition and told her I'm a heart patient and have high blood pressure. No one has ever asked me why. Well, the eggplant was way overcooked to the point of tasting like mashed potatoes and the other dish had meat in it which I wasn't aware of. It was bland and tasteless. She finally came with the food and she got a little snippy with me saying she had to wait on this other customer. Ok, no problem . When I went to leave I noticed the counter had so much dust on it you could write your name in it. And this was right next to prepackaged food. Never again. I ordered sweet and sour chicken and chicken almond ding. The sweet-and-sour chicken was not as I have seen it in other places. It was actually big pieces of fried chicken fingers, and the sauce was just sauce, there was no pineapple or green pepper in the sauce. If you call yourself Magic Kitchen, it better be magical. Well, it's good and there are a handful of "authentic" Chinese dishes on the menu. The interior is quite small, so you're really here for takeout or lunch. The service is okay, but it seems to get lost once they start trying to juggle their takeout and dine-in customers. I was very pleased with their Singapore noodles and beef noodle soup. I just wish there was more to their menu when it came to non-Americanized items. Call me spoiled coming from Chinatown. Certainly a family-ish run establishment that I will come to from time to time. read more

I wanted to choose and explore a new favorite Chinese restaurant in walking distance from my new apartment and I can't say I'm in love. I ordered my normal egg drop soup (delicious can't go wrong there), and egg foo young, chef mix fried rice, spring rolls were on the menu so I threw those in. The egg foo young was dry, it didn't come with any sauce, and the rice was dry as well. The "spring rolls" were pretty much egg rolls I called back and the restaurant employee said their rolls are different which sounded strange. Maybe I'll order other items but won't order rice or egg foo young again. Reasonably priced, maybe they specialize in other things. read more

This is my first experience at this restaurant. The food was fresh! I ordered chicken egg foo Yung, shrimp chop suey and egg rolls. I appreciated the gravy being on the side of the egg Foo yung (that brown gravy jello is always a pain to reconstitute the next day). The gravy was pretty good; but it did have a strange, slightly sweet flavor. The patties were very good and tender. The veggies in the chop suey were extremely fresh! I know the chop suey is a veggie driven dish, but I would have liked some flavor in the sauce. I added sea salt, and it was pretty good. I usually rate a restaurant by the egg rolls. Sadly, the egg rolls tasted like egg rolls I used to make at home. Nothing special to get excited about - except they were fresh! They were on the skinny side, though I have had skinnier. I can't explain the flavor I was hoping for, but this was not it. All in all this was a good chinese restaurant. I loved the freshness of the food (which is why I gave 4 stars), but not especially the flavors. If I went back it would be to try something else; but not any of my favorite Chinese dishes. read more

Since New Wok hasn't reopened and prices at House of Emperor have slowly been raised thru the roof, we tried here and got 4 dishes we have ordered at many Chinese take out places or even in Chinatown. Here we go: Chicken Chop Suey-excellent! Sauce is tasty, plenty of bean sprouts and pea pods, good amount of tender chicken, trimmed nicely of any fat. Beef Fried Rice-very good. Although it had yellow onion instead of the more normal green onion, and scrambled egg was kinda sparse. Still very good. Beef With Broccoli-would have also been excellent except it had sweetness, I have always hated sugar added to my Americanized Chinese food. BBQ Pork Egg Foo Yung-same comment as the beef with broccoli. The gravy for the egg foo was VERY sweet. Too sweet for me! The only option is large which is 3 paddys not the usual 4. I think without the sugar it would have been very good. Purely take out here, it was obvious they used to have a sit down business at some point but not now. My friend and I ordered from here last night and really enjoyed this food! He thought it was some of the best egg drop soup he's had. I liked the dinner combos, where you can get a smaller portion of various entrees along with steamed or fried rice and crab rangoon or egg roll. I got this with kung pao beef and it was just right! My favorite Chinese Restaurant in Lisle/ Downers/ Woodridge area. Love the Lemon Chicken, Pot Stickers, and Shrimp Fried Rice. My wife likes General Tao's Chicken. Prices are quite reasonable and portions are generous. Located in mall just West of Benedictine University. My family and I used to go to the restaurant all the time when it was still Great Wall. This was my first time there after the new owners had taken over. The new owners had remodeled the place so it felt more open and not as dirty as it used to be. Bathroom was also a lot nicer than it used to be as well, but the place is still a bit on the older side. We usually always get the same dishes and I was pleasantly surprised to find the flavors were very similar and yummy. My parents have been to the restaurant more times than I have and have picked out some dishes that are good ( there are some that we stay away from because they are just not good IE the walnut shrimp) We ordered: -客家小炒 (Stir fried pork with vegetables) : Flavor was good as well the portion. It's nice and salty so it goes great with white rice. -長城豆腐 (Fried tofu with black bean sauce) : Tofu is well fried and matches well with the sauce -絲瓜魚片 (Fish filet with Chinese okra) : very nice and light flavor. Fish is nice. Chinese okra is a hard vegetable to work with sometimes just because it can be bitter , but the owner told us they try the okra every time they serve it to make sure it isn't too bitter. There were a few pieces that were bitter but for the most part came out pretty nice! -Fried shrimp: flavor was good just a bit on the drier side Service was also great, food took a bit to get to us at first but as soon as the first dish came the rest followed. We were in a pinch & needed a quick fix that would hit the spot. I had higher expectations based on what I had generally seen on yelp so a little disappointing to say the least. Orange chicken was a little too sweet which reminded me more of general tsaos. Also, the chicken itself was leathery as well as rubbery/bouncy. The cashew nut chicken was a bit on the saltier side. I did like the fried rice, that was solid. I also appreciated the substantial portions for the price. Overall, there's more be desired in the quality & flavor. Decided to give this place a try, as we only have a few Chinese places near us that we like so far. Maybe it was an off night, but the food was not good. We did a pickup, since this is during COVID and it was kind of late, so may give it one more chance, but we'll see: To begin with, these are all dishes we've ordered from other Chinese restaurants, so we are basing it on comparisons to others BBQ Pork Fried Rice - It was ok, but nothing great. Very tiny pieces of pork, which were not tender at all. Chicken teriyaki Was really looking forward to this, but eating shoe leather would have probably tasted better, because this chicken was tough as hell, dried out and had no flavor. It was devoid of any sauce, nothing even came on the side. I truly think these pieces had been sitting under a warmer, since oh maybe prior to COVID..... I love chicken teriyaki, but no clue what this nonsense was. Beef with twice the mushrooms - the only reason I didn't starve to death eating this meal was because of the beef with mushrooms. It was tender, had great flavor, was warm and super yummy. (Why oh why couldn't all the dishes be like this?) Sesame chicken - A close brother of chicken teriyaki, at least the flavor was good on this, the sauce was good, the sesame seeds were plentiful, but the chicken (again) was super tough and chewy. Probably sitting around since the second wave of COVID started. I was very disappointed and sad, as the previous Chinese I had wasn't great either and was hoping for a win. Alas, maybe next time... This is the best casual Chinese restaurant in the area! The prices are reasonable, the portions are generous and most of all.. the flavors are always on point! We've been happy with every dish that we have ordered so far. They even offer "traditional Chinese" food in addition to their main (Americanized) menu, which you can order from their website. We have ordered take out from this restaurant a number of times since the pandemic started and we will be back for more. We've been disappointed by so many casual Chinese restaurants in the area, so we're glad we finally found our go-to spot! read more

Magic Kitchen was more average than magical, but it's decent Chinese American food. The restaurant is taking safety precautions and has a take-out counter set-up right by the door with only has a sliding window. If you order Mongolian Beef, it's about 40-50% onions. I know beef is expensive but wish they added other vegetables or mushrooms. The lunch portion would be two moderate servings for two people. I'm used to chicken in a white sauce and surprised that it was in a brown one. It seemed like the Mongolian and brown sauce was very similar, and it's very salty yet sweet. If I were to reorder, I would ask for lower sodium. read more

A great place for typical American Chinese and some traditional dishes. Portion is decent for take out as well as dinning in. I really liked the items under house special section. Kids loved salt and pepper fish fillet and noodle Good for B-day party too. Great flavor and portion for every tray which were a big hit for kids. The new owners were supper accommodating. She went to the kitchen, did prep work in front, talked to the table that came after us then meandered back and started taking our order again. My food arrived after others were done eating. Mai fun was bland and strangely gritty. Crab rangoons were entirely cream cheese. Fried rice wasn't really fried. Beef was lackluster quality. Crab Rangoon was delicious, dry stir-fried green beans were great, braised pork belly was good and had a very generous portion of meat. Wonton soup had good wontons but the broth was greasy and had a strange red-brown color. Milky walnut shrimp was good, again very good portion of meat, but the sauce was overly sweet and seemed like the sugar had not fully dissolved so it was a little gritty. Looking for a quick snack with one of my kids we stumbled upon magic kitchen. They are taking their orders right at the door. Whikr you can't eat inside right now, their covid protocols made it feel really safe to order directly and pick up. We had some delicious egg rolls with chicken as well as lo mein noodles with chicken. It was all made very quickly and the lo mein was a kid pleaser. Even though I picked "spicy" it wasn't. I think I'll have to check the higher level next time. The pork egg rolls were tasty. My order was "take out" so I didn't experience table service. Went here for dinner last night and overall impression was a bit underwhelming. Expected a bit more based on recent positive reviews, but it was just okay. The large order of crab rangoon was small in quantity and size of each piece and the egg rolls were on the smaller side as well. I had the kung pao beef which was moderately spicy but the meat was very soft so felt more like it had a salisbury steak consistency. Other meals ordered were sesame chicken which my daughter said was just okay. I had a bite and it seemed like almost ground up dark meat instead of quality chunks of chicken. Last meal was sweet and sour chicken and while the chicken pieces were of good size, the sauce had nothing else in it. Typically other places have pineapple and peppers in the mix. Thought we'd try someplace new since our other go-to place (House of Emperor) seems to have let their quality slide as well lately. Will keep searching. read more

The Wonton soup although has no vegetable's at all in the soup also no sliced pork either but the soup was actually very good, just wish it had what i listed like most soups. Beef egg foo young was not bad just very salty taste in the gravy, next time I order will tell them easy on the soy sauce. Yangzhou fried rice was very tasty maybe a little to much scrambled egg in it but was very good. I will definitely be going back as the food really was pretty good. This is my go to for Chinese food. I always have the coconut chicken as I love coconut, now this is a sweeter dish but it is soooo good. The food is always nice and hot and has great flavor. The team is supper quick and friendly so happy I have been able to pickup during COVID. We have tried many other things on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. This was a last minute decision to find a Chinese place for dinner, I have passed by it on maple many times but never got around to ordering it. So my girlfriend and I ordered, we got Crab Rangoons, beef with mixed vegetables, general tso chicken and with fried rice, egg rolls, egg drop soup and tofu soup. Let me tell ya, this food was piping hot when we got it home! Everything was super fresh, the fried rice was amazing, it was an overall great meal. The only thing I wish they could fix is how you get the food with COVID. All they have is little section before entering the restaurant where you wait to get your food.
