    Fried in dirty oil rice
    Michael B.

Ordered Kung pao and curry chicken along with two orders of vegetable fried rice and crab Rangoon. Total was $40 and change. The Kung pao chicken was subpar and far more sweet than spicy. The curry chicken was average. The fried rice was an abomination. It tasted and looked like it was cooked in old, dirty, oil. We thew both orders in the trash. Would not have even considered feeding it to the dog it was that bad. See photo for reference. Will never go back and am wondering about the validity of all the high ratings.

Dinner combos: honey chicken & szechuan chicken (comes w crab rangoon & egg rolls)
    Karli W.

Pleasantly surprised! Ordered 2 dinner combos ($6.75ea): Honey chicken & Szechuan chicken. Dinner combos come with fried rice, 1 crab Rangoon & 1 egg roll. Fried rice: great, bright peas & carrots too Crab Rangoon: perfect amount of sweetness, not a lot of crab Egg roll: good taste, but barely filled & different wrap than the Rangoon. I've had better. Honey chicken: very surprised at the fresh taste & the large chunks of chicken. More chicken to breading! Very fresh & tasted perfect. My 2 kids loved! Szechuan chicken: fantastic non breaded chicken dish w very slight heat. Full of fresh veggies like broccoli, green bell peppers, water chestnuts, thinly sliced onion, celery & bamboo all in a dark broth that is fantastic & fresh. Small amount of inside dining available. Looked like 2 booths & maybe 3 tables w chairs. Very very clean. My go to Chinese is still china star off 64th near parkville, but this new China Express is a close second!

Counter from small eating area. There are 2 tables, 2 booths.

I happened to drive down the lane to find some more food options and Luna's Chicken n seafood caught my eye. I read the beautiful story of Luna's owner settling here from overseas starting out as a dishwasher and working his way up in the food industry through humble beginnings all because of his family's love and support. I honestly didn't even realize Luna's had Vietnamese roots and thought it was southern style owned and inspired. I got the fried chicken, shrimp and fried cat fish combo with some fries (along with Jamaican jerk and lemony dry seasonings on the side) and let me tell you that it did not disappoint! Everything was prepared fresh and fried to perfection without being too oily along with crispy, golden and fresh French fries. The flavor was savory with the right amount of coating and spices. The pricing is very competitive too and similar to the fast food fried chicken spots around with combos starting $10+ for chicken and mix combos starting $14+. Most people were placing takeout orders but there was a small sitting area on the left if you decide to eat there - and I did. Otherwise the restaurant was clean with kind staff though there was a bit of a wait time because of constant to go orders. The restaurant staff was sweet enough to give me a soda for the wait. Improvements - I hope they improve their food containers because by the time I got my order with pipping hot fried meat combo - the top of the styrofoam containers had melted. Overall, I was satisfied with their food and service. 5/5 for me.

We got there right at the time they open (11 am), and they were not finished setting up for the day and had us wait while they finished. We said it was no problem, but it was so long that it became frustrating. If you open at 11, that means open and ready for customers, not still setting up. Our waitress, however, was very nice and explained how the menu works. She brought us water, but it was terrible - by terrible, I mean country water with that weird metallic taste. Our waitress said she knew and that it was just how Gladstone water is - my husband agrees. Anyway, we ordered one of the boil bags with crab legs and shrimp. It came our pretty quickly and they did provide bibs and wet wipes and there were napkins on the table, so we could use as many as we wanted. Our waitress opened our bag for us and dumped it into the waiting tray. They have buckets on the table for all the shells and other trash. We did wear our bibs and said we would only have this meal with certain people because it is messy!! It was the crab legs that made it messy - if I went with someone else I would probably have shrimp (awesome) and sausage (didn't try, but I bet it's good). The shells of the crab legs were a bit soft, which our waitress asked us about. She said they have a new chef, so she was happy to provide some coaching. The place is way bigger on the inside than it appears from the front. Plenty of seating. I definitely recommend checking it out!!

I'm happy to blow a little more if a place is really great, treats their employees well, etc. That said, six bucks for a kettle full of hot water with a single teabag of mediocre brand intended for a single 8oz cup is a bit silly. Her order Pad see eew, was good, but the protein was really wonky (pork that had a decidedly off flavor like old cooking oil). We're not the sort of folks to raise a stink, we simply won't order that dish again, and if we have a similar experience, we pay the bill, leave, and never return. Service was good. We love to slow down, enjoy the atmosphere and each other's company. We love that it doesn't echo, voices aren't carrying, and we can hold a conversation with each other while great music plays in the background. It's a small business, black owned, family owned (BossLady!!), and family working on site. I find being flexible and enjoying the amazzzzzing shrimp is worth it. Next time, they'll have what you think you need, or you'll find a new favorite. Restaurant Week is tough on small business participants, especially with the RW parameters and requirements, but we remained flexible and found a new favorite. It looked like many new customers were really excited to be there, and it's about the busiest I've seen it when we have been in. We dined during Restaurant Week, and ordered the Burnt Ends and Garlic Butter Shrimp. The Burnt Ends were SOOOO tender, and the flavor of the meat really shined, especially for a restaurant that specializes in seafood. Mac and Cheese is always good! But the garlic butter shrimp......I could eat that all day. The cheesesticks were delicious and the lemon cake dessert! We've also had the BOSS item on the menu, perfect fried shrimp, perfect air fried real potato fries, lemon pepper shrimp, corn on the cob, and we love them all, no complaints! Have patience, give Grace. The young people are very nice, quiet and kind. We've met at least 3 of the family who work in the front. They are really sweet and trying to do their best for you. I'm so glad to see them there!! These are the kind of businesses that I like to support and I think others should, too. Are some young people working their family's hard fought business instead of doing what most people assume young people are doing?? YES. Owners that LOVE what they do....making people happy with their food, while doing what they love? YES! Those are the things that matter, and this restaurant deserves to be famous for the seafood, based on taste alone. And the young people will grow up, and they'll be better for having worked in the family business. Let's SUPPORT ownership, family employees and think beyond our tiny box.

The MAI TAI, ENVY OF ALL & the white SANGRIA were all tasty, but at $18 a piece, they should have been spectacular. Taste/presentation did NOT warrant the price tag. We are always delighted to see a WEDGE SALAD on the menu & it was just what you expect in a wedge, which never disappoints, but croutons were unnecessary. Unusual the house dressing was a peppercorn ranch for an Italian restaurant, which was heavy for the MIXED GREENS salad. The CAESER was a winner for my 16 year old son. My 91 year old mother, enjoy the CHEF SOUP, which was turkey & rice... this is high praise for one who always has soup and typically finds fault. The CHICKEN PICCATA was meh. I know this is a safe dish for people to order, but this version had no zest, choose something else. The CHICKEN CARBONARA was served with the egg yolk in the center so you stir it into the hot pasta to cook it. My son loved this presentation, made it fun and most importantly DELICIOUS. Our BEST dish was the BRAISED BONELESS SHORT RIB! When we return to KCMO, we'll definitely reorder this dish and sample some of the others.
