Stumbled upon this little joint and beware this is not a frills place but if you want a good massage, the gentleman has quite the muscles for it! It was the best foot massage I have had in a long time. It was a bit painful but it was very well needed. There is no privacy so beware that your foot massage will be right in the open. Tony, the owner, is a fantastic massage therapist! I've been coming here for years. It's a small, clean and professional establishment. I've had two ACL surgeries and I trust him with my body but obviously I've directed him with placement and pressure. I speak Mandarin but like other patrons has said, just point to where it hurts and say "harder, lighter, just right". He's almost as good as my physical therapist but a 1/3 of the cost! Since he is the owner and usually the only one manning the store, he will answer phone calls and greet people at the door during your massage. But I have no problem with it bc he adds the time back. While the place is easy to miss and the business a clear definitely of "small", the Male owner makes up for everything with his skills and endless conversation. It isnt a fancy spa where looks is the selling point but a place where one rejuvenates the body through physical pain. It's a strange concept to many but in the Chinese culture, it is normal to fight pain with pain. Highly recommend for people looking for a deep tissue massage. read more

Experiences such as the one we had here are what funny memories & party stories are made of (when you're over the initial trauma.) The only person working when my group walked in frantically phoned his employees; they must've either lived or worked at another job nearby because within 10 minutes, they were all in the building, ready to work. The person doing the calling was a masseuse himself, apparently. He massaged my friend while taking phone calls, giving her one-handed half-hearted lobster claw pinches during more than half of her 30-minute massage. She said it was the worst massage of her life. My other friend & I received our massages sitting side-by-side on a loveseat in the lobby; there was no way to enjoy our massages while other customers walked in & stood around in the cramped entryway, a few feet from us. My masseuse was actually quite good at tenderizing my tired feet & calves, but the whole situation was so awkward. There are innumerable foot & back rub businesses in Chinatown, most turn out fine even if they seem sketchy. This one at 79 Allen didn't seem clean & although everyone was friendly, the whole setup was unprofessional. Sure, we laughed about the sheer ridiculousness of it all later on, but best believe none of us will ever come back or recommend this place. read more

Worst experience ever. First impressions: The place is sketchy. When you enter it is one giant hallway with curtains to the left. Behind the curtains must be where the back massages are happening. I wouldn't know though, we walked in only wanting a foot massage. Experience: We were seated in the front entrance by the door on a broken down couch. There was no foot soak, but instead a wet towel wipe. All whilst getting the foot massage, they continued to try to convince me that I needed a foot and back massage. This was aggravating, because I told them a number of times no. We were just there for the foot massage. All said and done, most of it could have been overlooked which I might add is a lot. However, the worst part of our experience was the payment. When we collected our change it was short. When we asked for the rest of our money, they replied by saying no. Not only were we cheated, but it left an unsavory bad taste in our mouth. Never again will we be going back there and we highly suggest no one else does either unless you don't mind getting taken advantage of. read more

I came with friends to NY and since we walked too much exploring the city, my foot was carving for massage. I've randomly picked up this place and it was great! Although the foot massage was mostly painful (I never did it before), after I walked out of the Chinatown Relax Spa I felt great. The guy that did the massage was friendly and professional but he can't speak the english. I've opened google translate and communicated to him through mandarin language :) Since I was happy with the experience, I've scheduled myself for back massage. It was mostly painful too but again after I've walked out of the Spa I felt great. I recommend this place and will visit it again when I come back to NYC. read more

Smelled like sour damp wet sweatpants when you first walk in. I remember getting a great massage here, years ago. This time the guy only worked my shoulders for a "back massage" for 20 minutes. i've been to many of the popular, bigger massage places in chinatown, as well as a few of the smaller ones, and this one may be among the best. other places have hundreds of reviews, whereas this place only has 1 so far. mine will be #2, so it's definitely a hidden gem that i can't believe few others seem to have discovered. i don't want it to become overly crowded when the masses discover it, but i also want to support them and help them stay in business. it's bare bones - don't expect much in the way of ambiance. but the tables and sheets are clean, they keep it nice and warm inside the small rooms which is lovely especially when you're almost naked in winter, and the masseuses are excellent. outstanding, actually. my guy found every problem spot and more i didn't even know i had, and beat my tight muscles into submission (in the best way possible). and because nobody knows about this place, their business is slow. so i paid for an hour (full bodyish, though mine was more neck and back, but you can tell them where you're having problems and they'll hone right in on it) but there was no one waiting and i think he took pity on my disastrous neck, so he ended up giving me a ton of extra time. all for $40. i left a fat tip on top of that as gratitude. english is very limited but that seems pretty irrelevant when your job is just to lie there and say "too soft, too hard, or aaaaah just right." i would caution you to let them know (body language works pretty well if you don't speak mandarin) if you have an injury or sensitive joint/area, so that they don't push or pull or twist that part of you in case you're not prepared. i have shoulder issues which generally don't bother me, but i don't tolerate my arm being cranked up over my head and then yanked on, so i had to indicate that i didn't want my shoulder positioned that way. like anything else in life, you have to speak up for yourself sometimes because you still know your body the best. otherwise, from a muscular standpoint, he immediately sussed out where all my problems were. he also practiced acupuncture in china, but because he doesn't speak english, isn't licensed to practice here. point being he absolutely knows what he's doing and isn't just some minimally trained guy digging around at random spots on your body. he's an amazing masseuse and knows a ton about chinese medicine. if only i could really speak mandarin... FYI, i assume they're cash only, though not totally certain, and the phone number is 917.324.0819. (the one currently listed here doesn't work anymore.) so in case they soon become inundated by all you crazy yelp addicts, you may wish to make an appt, though walk-ins are pretty safe at the moment. go to this place! just not all at once, and definitely not when i'm planning to go :) read more
