I interviewed 3 different landscapers to complete the very poor work done in my backyard by Edgewater (thru Toll Brothers). I would never again do business with Edgewater due to their poor workmanship, the owner's crude language, and very antagonistic customer service. For my redesign, I took into consideration design, personal interaction, and price. I ended up selecting the higher priced company for a few reasons. The first consideration was the in-person conversation with the owner/designer/representative. I believe the first two companies were certainly qualified to create and implement a presentable design. However, when I met with Greg, Chip-n-Dale's (CND) owner and designer, I was impressed with his professionalism and understanding of how to improve the display around the fountain centerpiece in my yard. He prepared detailed 3D drawings of a full-featured design, which was beautiful. Thereafter, the employees I met who were in charge of installation and maintenance were no less professional. Mike met with me to make sure everything had been installed perfectly and to my complete satisfaction. Mike was very open and friendly, and I couldn't have been more pleased with their attention to detail. I've now contracted with them to handle the monthly maintenance, which has been flawless. The employees in the office have likewise been friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend CND to a homeowner who values and appreciates honesty, quality workmanship, and high-end customer service. THE BEST!! read more

I requested for an estimate, he came and tried to convince me spending a lot of money but I was clear that we just need a simple, low maintenance renovation for our yard. Now while I had been waiting for an estimate( they said it takes 5-7 days) they called me and straight to meet their designer which will cost from $3500. He refused to give me an estimate. I told them that I need an estimate first before paying for the designer. They said OK and will give me, well I didn't hear from them. This company just wants money! Maintenance crew did an ok job, but so slow to get anything done as requested, usually months to change out plants or trim specific areas. We believe all the issues came from management and up, yelling at my husband on the phone calling me a liar then apologizing in an email for their found error. Here is our biggest of many complaints, I spoke to CND more than a year ago, they were our maintenance landscapers, to put a sealant on some unfinished concrete in my yard, front yard and back yard near our pool. They promised their company could do this. Finally 18 months after a lot of broken promises on this sealant project as well as other projects promised, they said they were going to have subcontractors do the work as they didn't have enough personnel to do the job. I trusted the subcontractor as CND promised great work. The sub who barely spoke English told us the best method to seal the concrete was to paint the concrete. Not knowing anything about sealing concrete we trusted this advice. First CND tripled the cost of what I could have contracted this company separately on my own. Before the Mgmt of CND disputes this, I asked to have another concrete project done before we saw the awful results of the paint and the subs gave me the charge per square ft., which was 1/3 of per sq ft of the cost of the CND invoice. Second the job was awful. The paint showed every footprint every irrigation droplet on a shiny uneven painted surface, so awful looking and a real menace for slipping around the pool area. We hired another concrete company, which we should have done initially. To do the job right the new company had to rip out all the painted concrete and re pour and re finish the botched painted concrete sealant job as there was no way to remove the bad paint job. Our new concrete company, a 5 star Yelp and Google reviewed company, says paint peals on concrete and is not a good solution. What a mess, a lot of added and unplanned cost for us. BTW we no longer use CND for maintenance and hired a new maintenance company who charges less than half of CND monthly fees and are very responsible, fulfill promises immediately and communicate weekly with us. From the efficient individuals I speak to on the phone, to the reps who respond quickly to my e-mails, to the professional and knowledgable supervisor Miguel who is always quick to meet with me or follow up on a text, to the countless trustworthy and consistent workers who have planted, watered, trimmed, pruned, repaired and maintained our landscaping with beauty and care so wonderfully, I could not be happier with Chip-N-Dale's Landscaping. When I sought out bids to have a monthly landscaping service start to service our property, I remember thinking at first that Chip-N-Dale's is the most expensive. As such, I went with another company at first. After a few months when the other company kept moving around my appointment time or was not too quick to follow up on my question or the landscaping crew just was not up to snuff, I soon realized that as with many things in life, "You get what you pay for." I do not have time to micro manage the landscaping part of our life. I want to pay to simply have it taken care of and for it look great. Chip-N-Dale's is that for me. "You get what you pay for"....Miguel and his crew are trustworthy, consistent, professional, nice, hardworking and very good at what they do. "You get what you pay for"...If something is amiss in my yard (broken sprinkler head, dead plant, lighting issue, etc), I am hearing about it from Miguel and his team via e-mail or text well before I myself have even noticed. They are on top of things when it comes to my yard. "You get what you pay for"...they are consistently there every month on the agreed upon day with no variance...EVER! I don't worry about Chip-N-Dale's, because I know they are doing what I am paying them to be doing. "You get what you pay for"...my landscaping is beautiful! Year round it always looks great. My neighbors compliment and we know it looks great. "You get what you pay for"... if I need something or there is ever an issue, I can reach someone from wherever I am in the world with great ease via e-mail. Like many other reviews here caution, the overall customer service, initial meetup experience, and especially cost, make selecting Chip n Dale's landscaping a poor choice, rather the worst choice for your landscaping needs. An initial meetup with Nick Volpone, who is a design consultant yielded promising results. He was friendly, and based upon what he saw for the initial visit gave a ballpark quote of around $50k for what our plan entailed. A complete design I had completed in CAD software to scale had been finalized with all landscaping elements and reviewed by him so he had a basis to give a ballpark estimate that I would think would be roughly close once a formal quote was given. Nice. Then it was all downhill from there. The next meetup was for a higher up, Franco Volpone to come out and have a field survey for himself. Franco then proceeded to almost jokingly say it was craziness to think my landscaping plan could be done for $50k, then quoting me a MINIMUM of $200k+. WHAT?! Talk about a bait and switch and price gouging to the extreme. I would argue $150k is a little off, or you should have a more proficient design consultant. I have a large backyard, with about 5,000 sq ft of landscaping needs encompassed with some rocks, artificial turf, pavers, fire pit, irrigation, trees, ya know, a normal landscaping job for a backyard redo, but $40/sq ft is comical and in no way justifies $200k worth of improvements. Of course, they will come on here and refute my review, but all the other reviews don't lie. They are expensive, period. After the initial rough quote was increased by $150k, and it was relatively clear I was surprised, Franco then started to say that he wasn't even sure he wanted to spend the time developing a formal quote because we weren't seeing "eye to eye". My thought would be if your're trying to extract $200k from a customer you would at least have the courtesy to spend time to develop a proper quote, but not Franco. He even had the nerve to request to charge me $3,000 to redesign my plan to "improve it a little", and requested my own digital file. Dude, the landscaping plan was complete, why would I pay you $3,000 (the normal design fee as I understand, which is already ludicrously high), and provide you my CAD work that was already finished? Clearly a not-so-clever money extraction technique that didn't work. Furthermore, Nick Volpone followed up with a text message seeing if I wanted to continue. I declined, and never to this day heard back from Chip n Dale's. That was likely the best possible outcome, and I hope that you're outcome is the same if they attempt to bait and switch you. Don't waste your time, other companies are certainly more deserving of your hard earned dollars. For reference, I have had other bids for the same plan that have come in from $60k - $80k. read more

This is a delayed review and only for the initial meeting/process. I had hopes for this company since they came from a neighbor's recommendation. My neighbors were fortunate enough to meet with the owner, who seems like a decent guy. Unfortunately, I met with Franco Volpone, who seems to have follow through issues and needs to work on his customer service skills. We were able to make an appointment for someone to come out and discuss our landscaping job. This company seemed to have readily available appointments...which could be a good or bad sign. This was the first company scheduled to come out and we met with Franco. He showed up 15 minutes late, stating he had a mix up regarding who he was suppose to meet that day. Okay, honest mistake, I'll give him a pass. So we meet inside the home and I discuss the ideas we have in mind. I tell him our budget and he states that everything can definitely be done within that budget. However, he seemed unhappy with the simplicity of what we were looking for in our backyard. We were looking at doing a custom BBQ area, artificial grass, an extended concrete area for a basketball hoop, and a water feature. He pointed to some of the pictures on their flyer and mentioned how some of the yards were 250k, etc. I got the feeling that perhaps this company is only looking for the REALLY big jobs including pools. I was already aware this company charges for design fees. I totally get that since it takes time and effort to put together a design and go back and forth with edits. I was quoted $750 for the design and only half would go towards the work. Seems to be a little inconsistent in what they tell different clients. One review stated that the design fee would go towards the work... Franco mentioned he could price out the different parts of our yard design for free. This is where all communication ended. I emailed the company, contacted them via Yelp. Greg, the owner did respond, stating Franco would contact me the next day. The next day, no follow up. I later get a message from Franco stating he sent it to the wrong email address. After meeting with several other companies after this one, I realize that this company really falls short in terms of client relations. The fact that Franco never bothered to step out into our yard says a lot about this company. This is a landscaping company correct?! Probably important to step out of my nicely air conditioned home and into the yard. Every other company, regardless of their design fee costs, stepped out into the yard to take measurements to give a quote. It would be one thing if you could view my whole yard from the stacking sliders....but you cannot... Two years ago I had Chip-N-Dale's Landscaping create a beautiful backyard to complement the pool and spa that I was having built. Not only has my family enjoyed this lovely oasis setting, but friends and guests have commented how our backyard feels like a nice resort hideaway. Just one word...RUDE! We decided to rip out our front grass and redo the entire front yard (although leaving some existing bushes and trees closest to the house), both sides of the driveway, with desert landscaping. We also were ripping out the concrete sidewalk and driveway and replacing with stamped - in other words, spending big bucks on this project. We called out a few companies to give us quotes on the landscaping project - we had already drawn up a plan on Powerpoint and just needed a quote for the work to be done. "Associate Design Consultant" Nick Volpone showed up to give us a quote and we briefly explained that we were redoing the yard. Without asking any questions, the very FIRST thing out of his mouth was "Well I don't see anything here worth saving". How RUDE! He completely dismissed any existing foliage, didn't bother to ask what our complete plan was and immediately berated what we did have - all within 2 minutes of meeting us. Needless to say, we told him there wasn't anything further to talk about and we walked back in the house and that was it. He was here less than 3 minutes. read more

My boyfriend Juron set up an appointment for 10a with this company to get an estimate for our backyard. After 30 minutes passed, he called and spoke with a young lady and asked will they still be coming by to give an estimate? She advised us they were running late from a 8a appointment and will give us a call back. It's now 6:00P!!!! No call and no show! When I called they could not come out for over a week to do an estimate and now that they were out over a week ago I was promised an emailed estimate that never arrived. We will not be using this company even if they are the best estimate because they have already proven customer service is not their strong area. We hired Chip'n dale to transform our backyard which honestly when I bought the house it looked like a piece-of the desert!! We had some very competitive cheap quotes from non insured contractors who promised a lot. But after checking with a lot friends who went through this, they couldn't emphasize enough on the risks I'm taking but not getting an insured company. Craig from Chip n dale came very highly recommended.and when we sat down with him me and my wife we immediately knew he is the guy. So knowledgeable, respectful , upfront and most importantly honest with the only intention to please you. The job went much better than expected, only a week longer, crew were very professional lead by Raymond. Craig will stop by almost every day if not twice. There was no surprises, everything get discussed used first. I went only a tiny bit above budget but was totally worth it. We were a customer of Chip-n-Dale's for at least ten years. The company has changed a lot over the years. They used to be really good-- great, even. They did our backyard's landscaping a decade ago and did a fantastic job. But over the last 3-4 years the service and quality has declined badly. Work crews change often, and we were being charged extra for "repairs" all the time on top of our monthly service charge. They quoted us something like $2200 to repair our irrigation system (which they had installed years prior), and I thought that was high. Got estimates from four other companies and was able to get the job done for less than half. All of the other four companies were shocked at Chip-n-Dale's estimate. I feel we were being taken advantage of over the last few years and I just got sick of it. I'm with a new company now...less monthly charge and more bang for my buck. read more

I have been using this company for three years to maintain my landscaping . For the most part, they have done a good job. However, they recently had a change in crew. They came to my home this week and failed to properly trim hedges, trees, etc. which they have always done. I called the owner who was rather short with me. He said they were very busy and had no time for customers who complained or were not satisfied with their work!! They cancelled my account!! (In full disclosure, he did send out some men to correct the problem)So, if they didnt do the job to the satisfaction of the client, it wasn't their responsibility!! It was your problem and they didnt want to hear about it. You gotta be kidding me!! He went on to complain, he wasn't making enough profit to justify sending his crew out again to correct the issue!! So, his poor business model that didn't generate enough profit for him was the client's fault as well!! This is a perfect example of what happens when a small, privately owned company gets too big too fast. Customer service goes out the window. The loyal client who has been with the company for years is disposable. There are plenty of new clients to replace him. Customer loyalty means nothing! I use to recommend this company to anyone who needed landscaping. No more!!. The attitude and culture of the company has changed. Customer satisfaction is no longer important or a consideration. Really unfortunate.. Do not use Chip N Dales unless you are prepared to accept however they choose to do the job without complaint. My initial consultation was very good. Franco was very professional and knew his stuff. He showed up on time, which is always a plus. When I asked what is the next step was I was told there was an initial deposit of $1000 to draw up the landscaping plan, and refundable if I went with them for the job. This is where they lost me, since most landscape companies do not charge for an initial design. My vision was quite unique, and I was not sure we were on the same page. I didn't want to spend the money just to find out. I am not giving them a horrible rating just because it is there business model to charge for a plan. I just think future clients should know what to expect. It would also be unfair to give them any higher rating since I do not have first hand experience with them completing a job for me. Initial consultation - 5 stars $ 1000 for a plan - 2.5 stars Quality of work - No first hand experience That being said, I believe I will hire a landscape architect, if I need to pay for a plan, then I have the plan in hand, which I know it fulfills my contemporary minimalist vision. That gives me the ability to bid that same apples to apples plan out to several landscaping contractors. I will probably save the architects fee plus some. read more

Chip and Dales did a great job on our front yard. The materials were staged on one day and the entire job was done in two full days. The crew knocked it out of the park and had completed what I had in mind. Have one sprinkler head that was capped but still leaking by. Hard to see that until after the work is done but the crew is are addressing it. Greg always follows up on calls and messages and is committed to the work they do. He handled the HOA paperwork. While it seems landscaping is a little expensive, its necessary and if done correctly, should last a long time. read more

We hired Chip-N-Dales for an extensive backyard landscaping project/outdoor living room, which included water features (fountains), fire pit, built-in kitchen (including fridge and BBQ), patio covers, etc. As a new neighborhood, we had the opportunity to see quite a few projects and work from different landscapers. We spoke with neighbors and based on the outcome of their projects and the level of satisfaction, we chose Chip-N-Dales. The owner and staff of Chip-N-Dales worked with us to develop a great plan - this required a number of meetings and they made themselves available to meet with us at our house and their office numerous times to ensure we were satisfied. Chip-N-Dales brought in a dedicated crew that worked every day vs. other landscapers that sporadically showed up at neighbor's homes. They cleaned up every day, including the street in front of our house and were extremely professional. The majority of the work is done by Chip-N-Dales staff, the exception being some specialty items, e.g., granite countertops and overhead "Alumiwood" patio covers. As with any project and any landscaper, we experienced a few bumps along the way, but Chip-N-Dales did a great job of addressing issues vs. arguing or not addressing things. One instance is the replacement of two different granite countertops that Chip-N-Dales proactively stated were not acceptable and made the vendor replace the top(s). In summary, Chip-N-Dales does very high quality work and truly cares about customer satisfaction and customer service. read more

Chip & Dale's recently completed a total landscape project of our front and back yard. They also built a custom built in BBQ for the patio. We now have a beautiful yard. Our friends and neighbors have all commented on how nice the landscaping looks. The BBQ is of a professional quality and looks like it is an extension of the house.
