I am wondering if Chipotle came out and decided to really cut back on their portion sizes over the last few weeks... or perhaps this location is under new ownership... until a few weeks ago, when I ordered a bowl or a burrito, I was met with a heaping product that I could save part of for another meal. That was honestly the only way I justified spending close to $10 on lunch so often. I was hoping it was just a phase and decided to give Chipotle one last chance, They're my favorite, my go-to. Nope. Skimped again. And I don't want to have to ask for them to fill the bowl. Why should I have to?? That's what Chipotle advertises: huge burritos, right? I also noticed they're now serving the steak medium rare. I end up throwing most away because it's gristle or hot pink in color. Such a bummer to lose my favorite place. Chipotle, a national chain restaurant that calls themselves a Mexican grill. I am sure everyone in San Diego can agree that Chipotle is nothing like Mexican food but more of a Mexican fusion restaurant with a Subway vibe. I really like Chipotle a lot, they focus on having the most fresh ingredients, using cage free chickens, and trying to be a good business overall. My only gripe with Chipotle is they make a claim constantly about how healthy their food is. Their food is hardly health food, the sodium content is out of control. If you stick to just getting burrito bowls without cheese or sour cream, you'll be fine. Another gripe for Chipotle is their prices, they're way to high for what they're selling you. $2 for a little bit of guac, give me a break, were in damn California. This location isn't my cup of tea. They are extremely cheap with their servings, and constantly bypass the fajitas, without even asking if you want any. They also are pretty slow for a crew that has very small basic ingredients that you literally slap together with a big spoon. Customer service is hit or miss. Sometimes the employees seem very disgruntled when requesting what you want in your combo, and the cashier isn't too friendly either. To wrap it up, Chipotle is an alright alternative to Mexican eating, this location kinda sucks compared to others. I just keep coming back because I live so close. read more

It is hard to find a burrito in San Diego that isn't smothered with lard, trust me. Chipotle has proven itself to be one of the few Mexican places that doesn't make me feel like I am one foot in the grave after eating a burrito. The ingredients seem to be very fresh but I generally keep it simple: beans, rice and cheese. Those simple ingredients make for a very tasty meal, although it is fairly expensive (~$6.00)... they should really start pricing by weight. A very important side note for those who care, last time I was at this location, they were playing Radiohead's Gagging Order. Prettyyy impressive! Ordered Uber east from here. Placed an order of three tacos asada only with sauce for my son. Sofritas as bowl for me and an carnita bowl. The Three tacos had the smallest amount of steak in them for which they charged $9 for. My bowl was extremely soak with sofritas and small portions of everything the bowl was small and disappointing. Only thing that looked ok was the carnitas bowl. Very frustrated and disappointed that I spent $50 for small amount of food. This is not my go to place for burritos. Part of the problem is that Chipotle burritos are San Francisco style. Being a born and raised So Cal native I am partial to the San Diego burrito (apparently that is what they call our beloved California burrito up in SF). Anyway, this place sucks for tacos and their burritos. However, if I want to at least partially satisfy my burrito craving without the guilt I come here for the salads. Parking is easy, but a little scary since it's squished right next to a McDonalds drive-thru exit. So there's this weird blind-spot where cars pull out. Have to be careful for that. I'm surprised there aren't more accidents that happen there. Or maybe they do, and I just never see them. Seems I'm the first.. make that 2nd, review since their alleged Hepatitis A outbreak. Although it's not 100% confirmed to be from Chipotle (La Mesa), over a dozen people that ate there, ended up with Hepatitis A. Google it if you missed the news. Before this incident, I was a loyal Chipotle fan, getting burritos there at least twice a month. And no, I did not get sick (as far as I know.) And no, I do not go to this location anymore because of this incident. You either love or hate Chipotle. I think it really depends on what you order. WARNING: CHIPOTLE IS NOT A TACO SHOP This disclaimer is for the people on here that are confused and comparing your local dingy taco shop with chipotle. The food here is different and is intended to be that way. All of the ingredients are fresh and you watch them prepare your food which I love. Not the place to go to if you want an authentic greasy carne asada burrito in the middle of the night. You will most definitely leave disappointed, my yelping friend. Probably to go home and write up an undeserving bad review because you expected something that was never offered. I mean would you go to a coffee place and complain that they dont have the best authentic smoothies in town or to get your hair done and give a one star for not offerring you a manicure?...I digress. Felt like a delicious Chipotle Bowl tonight for dinner after a long day at work. I honestly have never been served a poor meal at Chipotle until my experience today. Carnitas Bowl with Cauliflower rice sounded delicious. I was the only customer in the building, which was awesome, but I guess it should have been the first first sign of what was to come. I also noticed the bar was not clean, but I just figured they had been busy right before I got there (again, benefit of the doubt). But then I ordered my carnitas bowl and the team member put the last scoop of Carnitas from the pan into my bowl. I trusted her judgment, because I KNOW they wouldn't serve bad product. But what I received was the equivalent to a beef (pork) jerky bowl. The carnitas was crunchy and stiff and tasted like burnt rubber. I would have GLADLY waited for a new batch or ordered something else if the team member would have let me know they were out of what I requested. The experience and food left such a terrible impression that I won't be craving another Chipotle Bowl any time soon. I'm super bummed because I LOVED Chipotle, and was a big fan even through controversy a few years ago! Love the vision and persistence of this company, but this experience lost my loyalty. I'm a little stuck on this place. Here's the thing. You are getting healthy food for a good price but the flavor ain't all that much of a big deal. I think the reason why everyone is so obsessed with Chipotle is because of media purposes and the huge craze on Instagram about it. Other than that it's pretty basic. On service however at this particular Chipotle is pretty good. All the associates are friendly and like to strike up the conversation. The place itself it big and air conditioned and it's just a nice place to come and eat healthy food. Watch out for an older lady who works here . When a girl was making my boyfriends burrito an older lady who worked here scolded her for putting "to much cheese" on his burrito and took a pinch of cheese off. Wow lady really? She didn't put a bucket of cheese on it and you shouldn't scold her in front of customers. Unprofessional. This was my first time at chipotle EVER. At first I was excited to see the hype, but as I got closer to the counter I was disappointed. First off, the menu was simple looking, but yet, I was very confused trying to understand what you get for which price and quantity. Second, once it was my turn to order I was greeted by the server, but i was treated like i was wasting her time asking her questions about the menu. She was rushing me to pick something without fully explaining to me what the items were, so I just picked the first thing on the menu. The burrito. Lastly, For $6.70 I expected my burrito to have equal generous amounts of Ingredients which it Did not. It was overloaded with rice and beans and had a very little serving of chicken, in fact, it was so poorly put together when I went to take a bite it completely fell apart. I basically ate a taco salad instead of a burrito. I guess what I'm saying is, I don't see what the hype is all about. Chipotle Mexican Grill - Burrito bowl yuck - Mexican Near Me - La Mesa, California

Stopped by this Chipotle before heading over to Costco next door. I ordered their burrito bowl with grilled chicken, black beans, lettuce, tomato, rice, and avocado. I also ordered side of corn tortillas and a diet coke. The bowl was filled well with the ingredients. It was nice having my side of tortillas because I was able to make my own tacos. I thought the rice was cooked very well and so was the chicken. The service was quick and cordial. I like this place because the food can be healthy if you order the right things. read more

I think it's great that this place does the free-burrito specials so frequently; luckily I ran into some friends this afternoon who informed me it was 'free burrito day" for Grossmont College students! SWEET! So in we went. Chicken and rice burrito for the win! Definitely delicious and even better because it was free. The thing that angered me though was the people behind the counter are so rude when they ask what you want in your burrito. It's incredibly hard to hear over their shitty house music that plays far too loudly, and their quiet voices mixed with heavy accents don't make it any easier. The attitudes were not appreciated from them, but at least I can see them making my creation, so I am assured that no one spit in it. My wife and I love this place! We are health conscious and stick to organic foods as much as we possibly can, so when we feel like "eating out", but not going to an actual restaurant, we head to Chipotle. I usually get the burrito bowl, add guacamole and a bag of chips. Fills me up and hits the spot every time. Only once in the many, many times I've been there was the food overcooked and didn't taste right. Every other time it's been very consistant and delicious! They will tell you if they run out of organic whatever and I really appreciate that transparency. That's how you build loyal customers. I won't be upset if you run out and tell me as much as I would be if you ran out and didn't tell me you substituted with a lesser quality product. I only wish the chain was not owned by McDonalds. Kinda makes me feel guilty for giving them my money knowing where it goes up the chain lol. read more

I love chipotle. I come to this one all the time, despite the stench of sewage that surrounds the building. I think that's more the city of La Mesa's fault than it is theirs. This evening I walked straight up to the counter (as the restaurant was near empty) and the gal behind the glass began to make another employee's order. She continued on with what she was doing when she finally did notice me, and the other employee moved around to my side of the counter to be rung up by the cashier, all before I was addressed. By far the worst Chipotle I've ever been in. Came in and ordered a regular meal & kids meal. I asked for an extra cheese quesadilla and initially the employee said I could not have a quesadilla, then the colleague approached him privately and he came back and started making it with no verbal response to me. He made it and picked it up and for some reason took it to another room. Before he left off, I reminded him of extra cheese. He rolled his eyes, added more, then took it to another room in the back to grill. When he came back he said "next", and I abruptly stopped in and said, "I'm not done". He responded " what do you want?". With my daughter confused, I said "can you please help me with a kids meal"? Again, rolled his eyes and said "what do you want? We ordered the kids meal, and at this point, another employee intervened. She asked what sides I wanted. I said hard shell taco, chicken, corn salsa, and sour cream. I felt so rushed and tired from the tension that I moved forward. When I got home, I realized that the kids meal only included the "soft tortillas" when I asked for hard shell, and only 2 sides instead of the 3 that comes with the meal. With inflation I expect to get what I pay for. I was polite and patient as I understand these trying times, but not only received literally the worst customer experience, and a product I did not pay for. Again, by far the worst Chipotle I've ever experienced. I will not be back as the several previous reviews are accurate and true. $20 down the drain, and on top of it, a terrible experience asking for something so simple and straightforward. read more

I love Chipole!! I have always loved them! I just moved to the area and found this one, and while I have only eaten there once so far...it was just as good as the others. I always get tacos, either soft or hard depending on my mood or if i have to travel with them. Just like with most places, people will complain about paying extra for stuff...but everyone charges for extra meat (subway, pizza hut, TGIFridays, everyone)...and guacamole is extra also if you want it. BUT everything else you can pile on as much as you like: rice, cheese, salsa, beans, onions and peppers, lettuce, and sourcream. Hell any other fast food restuarnt will charge you for those things, jeeze some places charge for KATSUP!!! I love their food and this resturant was just as good as every other one i have eaten at. The food is good and its a lot, so it will definatly fill you up! My fiance and I each get an order of what we want and share a drink and its $14...that is not too expensive IMO. I also think that their spicey salsa is very good and pretty hot...alot hotter and better flavor than the vinegar and tabasco served at places like Robertos (i like them too though). I really wish they would package the spicey salsa for use at home, cause i would definatly buy it! PS...i always get the barbacoa! read more

What's not to like about a restaurant with a name that apparently no one can pronounce. From Chi-pot-el to Chip-o-t-le...good grief. But seriously, I have yet to have a bad experience at a Chipotle and this one on Fletcher Parkway follows suit. I generally stick with a burrito- black beans, rice, chicken, corn salsa, ,sour cream and guac. MMM! If you go there often enough you might beat the employee to the punch line of "It's $1.70 extra" or whatever it is, and say "yes". Plus, it used to be owned by McDonald's and coincidentally, a previous employer which promotes holistic and organic health actually endorsed Chipotle as an acceptable place for his employees to eat AND bring back into the building. (Faltering on an ego of illegal standards...) But I digress. One thing I do suggest- Chipotle is pretty active in the community, schools and charities- Which is good, right? Right. However, you might want to do a drive by before entering in order to scope out the line. I got stuck in the middle of the first and second bus load of La Mesa High students who were honored with a free burrito after school. The co-owner of this chain was recently interviewed on NPR (National Public Radio), and I was very impressed with their business sense and direction for the company. I was equally impressed by the stats NPR furnished regarding the growth of the company, care for employees, and of course the health driven ingredients. I was a fan of this chain before I heard the interview, and now it only confirmed my enthusiasm. That being said, let's talk about the food... I have always appreciated the burrito in a bowl approach that they offer; always having them leave out the rice filler and just going with the proteins and veggies. So every time I go in, it's always the flavorful chicken I choose. You can taste the subtle spice play in the meat; the fresh romaine lettuce and veggies working in concert with that chicken to create a deep flavorful experience! If you don't dig on fast food and want Mexican style food that isn't one of those abominations that end in "erto", then Chipotle is a decent consideration; especially if you're on the go. read more

My burrito fell apart after unwrapping foil and while eating at the restaurant there were bugs everywhere. Threw the burrito away after two bites. I want my ten dollars back But you can keep it. I like the concept and I like the food. However, they are super stingy with the meat! The price is way too high for getting mostly fillers. They give you a mound of rice, beans and whatever other fillers you pick. The meat is carefully measured so that it's just a few measly pieces scattered around. Sometimes it's not even a whole spoonful of meat. I'm not sure if it's only this location or all are the same but I don't like paying for something I can make at home, for a quarter of what they charge. The was the worst chipotle I've ever been to. They wouldn't give us lids for our bowls. The service was sub par and the bathrooms, oh my gosh. I lost my appetite by stepping foot in there. It was ratchet as heck!! There was no soap! Anyway, I'll never stop going to chipotle but I'll never go to this one again. I frequent this particular restaurant pretty regularly since it's close to my house. Usually the service is pretty good but tonight it wasn't very good. There were 4 people on the front line but only two of them were assembling the food. One guy was bagging up the orders as they were done and would then tell the cashier what to ring up. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal but the line was long and I found it frustrating to see two people busting their but and the other two standing by waiting for food to be ready. Why wouldn't they utilize the third person to help with orders? Is the cashier not able to work solo? I didn't see the logic behind this at all and for that reason, I'm only giving 3 stars read more

These guys are the best! They ran out of queso at the end of the night which is acceptable (i'm the general manager of a restaurant so i know how it is). I was instead offered a free drink and a side of guac for my chips as well! Excellent customer service and this is my neighborhood chipotle so I come here at least 3 or 4 times a week! Carne asada burrito is the best. Ingredients are always fresh. The only thing i would change is the way they put the ingredients into the burrito. Nothing worse than getting a giant bite of guacamole on its own. Just spread it out when your making it. Not that hard. read more

This place is a joke I've ordered twice and both times my bowls have came with only a couple pieces a meat so next time I ordered I paid double portions and guess what I got none. Don't order from this location clearly from reading other reviews they are I inconsistent compared to other locations and poorly trained. Called the store to get my money back and she said I would have to come down there when I did mobile order it's ridiculous unless I'm going to get compensated for gas why would one need to return to the store.
