Chipotle used to be my quick meal pitstop. That was before I moved to La Mesa and got introduced to this sad excuse of a storefront representing Chipotle Mexican Grill. Halfway through my meal, I remembered exactly why I stopped coming here and why local spots will always win. I placed an order through their mobile app for pickup in store and that wasn't even the issue. Service was alright but they were clearly trying to rush everything out like they were about to close, even though there was still an hour and a half left. The real issue was the food. The bags are sealed so I trusted them and didn't check anything, which was my first mistake. I ordered a burrito bowl with their new chicken al pastor, a kids barbacoa quesadilla with chips, and a mandarin agua fresca, plus a large side of their new cilantro lime sauce, a large corn salsa, and an extra order of chips. Once I got home, I checked my bag. In true Chipotle fashion, I only got the kids size chip bag, but honestly that might have been a blessing because the chips were stale, soaked in oil, and aggressively salty. Like one chip in and you're already thinking about your blood pressure. The kids quesadilla meal is priced well. I got white rice and pinto beans as my sides, and while the rice was cooked fine, both had this weird aftertaste of old bottled lime juice. Not fresh, not bright, just straight off. The beans had decent flavor at first but then that weird lime hit and ruined it. The only thing that saved this meal a little was the barbacoa quesadilla. It was warm, the meat was tender and flavorful, just oily which is expected. I tried the burrito bowl and I will say the al pastor chicken actually had good flavor and a nice kick, so credit where it's due. The new cilantro lime sauce was mid at best, barely any lime, heavy on cilantro, and the best part was finding random chunks of avocado in it. I'm sorry but that's just sloppy. I know Chipotle isn't exactly known for being allergy safe, but that's still something that should not be happening. The corn salsa was also salty, which at this point just felt like their theme. The only thing that didn't disappoint was the mandarin agua fresca, but let's be real, they don't even make that. Overall this was oily, salty, inconsistent, and just disappointing. Chipotle used to be the go to for quick, decent food, but now it just feels lazy. Save your money and support a local spot that actually cares. read more

Why oh why does my local chipotle have to be so poor? I keep going thinking it's a one time issue but this last time there was half an avocado I our burrito, not chopped, sliced or mashed. The burritos are wrapped so badly they come undone, the amounts of filling are very inconsistent. Orders are made incorrectly if I call ahead. Employees are not very nice and always seem confused. We paid $69 for the Honey Chicken Family Meal, which is advertised as feeding up to six people. Unfortunately, after getting home and opening everything, we were very disappointed with what we received. Both the honey chicken and black beans trays were noticeably underfilled, making the portions far smaller than expected for a family meal for six. In addition, the chips were stale, and the tortillas were cold. This was our first time trying the family meal, and for nearly $70, we expected much better quality and value. It was frustrating to pay that much and receive portions that didn't match the price or the advertised serving size. We hope you'll review your portion sizes and quality control, especially for larger orders. Customers who purchase family meals should feel confident they're receiving the value they're paying for. I was always a Chipotle fan. I was born in the 80's so I'm very familiar with their quality, their aquisiton by Mcdonalds, and their buyout. The quality was always suprior. Their grilled meats, their freshly prepared sauces, their huge portions all of it was top notch. Not anymore. Their portions lean 100% to their cheaper ingredients. Cheese, rice, that makes up about 85% of their entree. The rest is the protein, sour cream, 2 pieces of lettuice, salsas. Their entrees used to be created for quality, now they're created for sales and quantity. Do not go over on portions or we will lose money type of thing. Do not get me wrong, these still taste amazing, but they're 40% of the portion they used to be. I ordered a bowl + chips and queso, $33 for a 4 mile delivery from doordash. I don't care about the costs of doordash, we do well, but the cost of the product to what was received bothered me. Double up on your protein, ask for extra everthing, pay 2x and you'll be back to the original Chipotle ethos. It still has pazazz, but it may be worth skipping. read more

I hate having to leave this review because this is the Chipotle that is closest to my house and my go-to , but the lady on the serving line MARIA was incredibly rude. As I was trying to communicate my order she just kept talking over me and then had the nerve to say " I CANT HEAR YOU" in the rudest voice possible. Mind you, she did not make eye contact with me once. Every item that she scooped up her body language made it very clear that she was bothered. I work in customer service and know how to communicate with someone efficiently and in a welcoming manner. If anyone on my team ever spoke to someone the way that she spoke to me I would be extremely concerned. I was so upset I ended up having to finish my order with the cashier ! Went in at around 6pm and ordered a burrito bowl. Out of my favorite item, the fajitas. They half-heartedly yelled back at their cook who didn't hear them, and then told me they weren't not getting any. I asked if they plan on making more and they doubled down, stating they are out. With nothing else from their blank stares, I willingly asked for double protein which I payed more for, just to get something out of this nonsensical customer experience. read more

I love chipotle, but this location is really challenging unless you are ordering at the counter IN THE STORE. I've had great experiences when walking in and ordering at the counter--nice staff, clean interior and plenty of parking. I have never had a good experience with pickup or delivery. The last three times that I've ordered pick up or food delivery, I have had particularly underwhelming experiences. For the price you pay, especially for the food delivery apps, you should be expecting the same quality as if you were ordering in store. Most recently, I ordered a burrito bowl about two hours before closing, and received a half full burrito bowl that was missing items. I had asked for fajita veggies, and I received ONE single pepper, not even full servings of rice, beans or meat. The only item that was standard was layer of cheese on top. If I was at the counter, I would've never accepted this bowl. Especially when you're paying 2x to have it delivered, it should be the same quality as if it was in store, and certainly the same quantity of food. I generally don't go to Chipotle but grabbed a salad bowl today for pick up through the app. My order was ready and waiting when I got there, everything packaged perfectly. The restaurant seemed clean and the employees seemed friendly helping customers. My bowl was just meh, pretty tasteless, some of the steak chewy or with crunchy parts. For it being a salad it barely has any lettuce and lots of the center white part that most people toss when cutting lettuce. For the money I would much rather visit any of the local taco shops we have around, more food and better tasting for the same price or less. read more

This chipotle location is pretty hit or miss. Sometimes the service is good sometimes it is not the best. The food is usually consistent though. This time I ordered a quesadilla meal and the service was not the best. I asked for sour cream as a side and the lady didn't put much because the tray was empty. It was refilled immediately but she didn't add more sour cream to my tray so I got a little less than half a scoop of sour cream. You can see in my photo how full the corn and beans are compared to the sour cream. Overall it was just an ok experience. Probably would only go here if I had no other options and was really craving Chipotle. read more

To say we weren't satisfied with our experience doesn't do it justice. Ordered ahead on the app because we were coming home from a sporting event and just wanted to get there and have the food ready to go. That was our first mistake. Asked the woman at the counter if our order was ready and she went to the back without telling me a word and she didn't reappear for about another 7-8 minutes. When she did reappear there still nothing said to me, it was just so she could put two other to-go orders up. She then violently grabbed 2 other online orders that had been setting on the handoff area since we walked in and chucked them in the trash and disappeared again to the back. Meanwhile 4 customers had walked in and ordered their food and had it made right in front of them. So what's the point of ordering ahead if people can walk in 10 minutes after I place my order and get their food before me? Mind you aside from a few others waiting for their DoorDash pickups, the place was empty. And while we are talking about the place, it was absolutely trashed. As we walked in we were thinking since we were all pretty hungry that we would eat inside the restaurant instead of taking it home. That decision was made for us very quickly. Every single table was filthy. Every. Single. One. Still 2 hours before they were closing but it looked as if they were trying to close the lobby. Also the counters in the back where they prepare the foods were a disaster. My wife decided she didn't even want to eat whatever food we eventually got. It was just pretty unsanitary looking to us. After a 16 minute wait we received our order without any mention of the wait. Asked if we could have a side of the vinaigrette dressing and they said they were all out. Got home and opened up our bowl and found it to be SUBSTANTIALLY less food than what we are accustomed to. The protein portion of our bowl was just unacceptable for what we paid. So I would highly recommend avoiding this location late at night at least. read more

I want to preface this review stating I'm aware the service industry is a rough job and very emotionally taxing, but you should never be visibly irritated at a customer when they're asking you to remedy something that is obviously an error on a service workers part. If we order two bowls, and one bowl is given two scoops of protein and the other gets only one - if this is pointed out the very basic and correct thing is to simply make the bowls equal. Not to argue about this being how your portioning works, if that was the case both bowls would've only had one to begin with. At the least saying "our policy is only one scoop, she gave you extra" cool, that's a great way for the customer to make sense of the situation and move on. Instead the person was visibly annoyed and each individual after the young man I tried to ask about it was also short and rude. Crazy thing to decide to have solidarity on. I won't be back to this location. I'm not surprised chipotle stock tanked the way it did. The drive true is borderline useless. read more

Food is always fresh here. I typically get the chicken salad, lettuce on the bottom and top, both types of beans, fajita peppers, pico, cheese, sour cream, topped with lettuce. As usual it was a win. Service was fast and friendly. The establishment is well lit and has a clean, open space, and had a chill vibe. The only thing I had an issue with was that a large bag of chips isn't really large and had a more than a few stale chips but the Queso made up for it. The cost of those two were about a little over 8 bucks for a large queso and chips- fill the chip bag with fresh chips and we got a winner at here!!! I am a long time customer of this Chipotle location. This 2 star review is about my experiences with the drive thru over the last few months. I have become very disappointed in this location for the drive thru. Multiple burritos I have received over the last few months have been significantly smaller than what I get when I have gone inside. I have already complained about this to staff once, and it has kept happening....it's just really inconsistent and it's disappointing to pay $20+ for a small burrito that can be finished in a few bites I received another small burrito in the drive thru again tonight, and that is making me write this review. I'm guessing that whoever is making the burritos thinks that the quality for the drive thru orders is not important. I just don't understand how they can wrap something like this and think it will be acceptable. I want to note that there are some awesome people who work here, and they deserve the highest ratings. I rarely leave reviews but felt compelled after so many bad experiences at this Chipotle. We used to pickup food to-go from this location every single week but finally stopped 1.5 years ago due to consistently inedible guacamole. I've left feedback in the app after every online order affected by this, but apparently it goes unheeded. We decided to try again for the first time since June 2023 after hearing that Chipotle overall had been turning things around, but were completely disappointed in this location again tonight. All three orders of guacamole were brown and inedible, and my son's quesadilla had cold unmelted cheese. I don't know if it's just because we're ordering to-go (because I can't imagine them scooping this in front of a customer), but it's really frustrating have to throw away guacamole I paid extra for. read more

Can't say enough wonderful things about the team that served us this afternoon. Arlene instantly made us laugh while providing exceptional service the minute we walked through the door. She raved about the freshly made garlic guajillo and insisted we try. She offered us a sample. It was absolutely delicious, so we took two orders of it! Kennedy was so sweet, and both ladies were so generous with the portions. No cheap-otle around here my friend! Pam checked us out and was so patient while we worked out redeeming our chipotle points. The dining area is so clean and well maintained. We sat to enjoy our food, and were able to take our time to appreciate how fresh, delicious, and properly cooked everything was! The chips were soooo fresh and crispy (I find often times at other locations they taste really stale). I am really impressed with how wonderful everything is here! Every single time we come here, almost every pot of meat is empty and cold. Tried to ask how long until they're refilled them so we could wait and this guy really said "not anytime soon." The poor guy really scooped up the watery mess and tried to call it a serving! To be fair he tried to get it from the drive through pot but was very obviously scolded for doing so. Management doesn't seem like they want to help the new people working. He would ask questions to other staff and get ignored. The wait here is absolutely gnarly. Employees tend to socialize while the line is out the door. Don't try to order and do a digital pickup to avoid the indoor line. The drive-thru takes forever and you run the risk of being trapped between other cars. The food is solid, but not worth waiting 45 minutes for. I won't be returning during my lunch breaks. read more

Definitely the worst Chipotle in the area. Every time I've been they have one employee doing all the work while the others are chilling in the back. Due to this strategy the line moves very slowly. Also every time I've been they are out of something. I've noticed they'll be out of something and just choose not to make more. My last visit they were "out" of the sour cream, I highly doubt a restaurant doesn't have any sour cream. Tables are gross, bathrooms aren't clean. I eat at Chipotle pretty often, and despite living just down the street from this one, I find myself driving all the way to the Mission Valley location because the difference is that noticeable. For the love of GOD can you guys investigate who makes the guacamole at this location?! It is unlike any guac I have ever gotten at other chipotle locations. It's runny and has chunks of stuff (maybe avocado skin, lettuce, I'm not sure what else) and just generally tastes way off. This is a consistent issue here. I would say 8 times out of 10 the guacamole is like this. Can someone please do some training and check the darn instructions for making guacamole. Worst Chipotle in San Diego hands down. We stopped coming to this location because of the service, and food conditions. Went back tonight because it's been a while. No change. There's literally food everywhere. Floors, food prep counter, grill area, and even on the counter by the drink dispenser. 7:30 pm and they are out of rice (likely because they don't want to make more tonight). Watched the guy scrape meat out of one of the well trays, while all the water off the bottom dripped in the cheese. 6 bottles of sauce on the shelf. Dirty as hell, and not one with a top. Napkins empty, no sugar for tea... the list goes on and on. It's clear that management is not paying attention to employees that don't care.
