Don't let the outside fool you, it's tucked in behind a bigger building and it's inside the pizza shop but that was easily the best birria I had on the east coast. The corn tortilla was actually crispy which was a big bonus in my book with the perfect salty bite. The shredded beef was beyond bountiful; so savory and perfectly balanced with the fresh onion and melty cheese. The consume was rich with perfect notes of acidity and spice I double dipping into the hot sauce which made for a perfect bite. The green onions were killer not everyone does that super good. Barely finished 2 tacos they are stuffed! 3 tacos and a soda came to $20, well worth it. Also customer service was good, the guy at the register and cooks were friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend eating here.

We ordered the shrimp tacos, the veggie tacos, and a large side of guacamole. The shrimp tacos were the worst I've tried. Three tacos each with approximately one underseasoned shrimp cut into tiny pieces, topped with chopped tomato, jalapeño, onion, and a tiny bit of cilantro, drizzled with chipotle mayonnaise. The shrimp was tasteless and the portion was tiny. The pico de gallo was as average as it gets. Not to mention the tacos at El Limon come with beans and rice for the same price, these did not. I got takeout and had homemade corn salsa, pickled jalapeños, and hot sauce in my refrigerator, thank god, because these tacos needed some flavor. My boyfriend ordered the veggie tacos and didn't say much other than he disliked them and proclaimed Lili's a "one and done."

You can place an order at the kiosk in front or at the register. It was easier using the kiosk because you didn't have to bother the lone server for options, add-ons etc. I had a birria bowl which was HEARTY. I mean the serving was huge and I was able to eat off it for two days. I thought it would be served with the consume, but I had to pay extra for that a sour cream. We did carry out, so the four stars is for cleanliness of the restaurant, quick service and serving size. I was very shocked that it was seasonless. There was no spice. There was nothing separating each ingredient in the bowl in terms of taste. It was all just one note and the note was Nothing. The consommé was also flavorless, but it did help with the dryness of the birria. I probably wouldn't try this place again if I came back at least not the burrito bowl my homegirl both had tacos and said that they enjoyed those.

I haven't had a chiminichanga in a long time plus it came with frijolitos y arroz so I ordered the carnitas chiminichanga. The taste was there; carnitas were tasty and the queso crema stuff they put on top was on point. Their salsas were a little weak; it would be good to have some spicy tomatillo salsa with anything carnitas. The frijolitos refritos were a little disappointing. There were mashed to a good consistency; too many whole beans. At least they weren't blended in the blender how some places do it. And gracias a dios that they weren't canned beans. NO CANNED BEANS!! the arroz was good. The atmosphere needs a pick-me-up. It was mostly because of the music. One would think a Mexican restaurant would play some sort of Mexican music. This place was playing instrumental versions of '70s classics. Please play some mariachi or cumbias or something Mexicano. I'm from southern California so maybe I shouldn't expect too much about Mexican food from Philly. And yes I hate the snow. If you didn't get my reference to chiminichangas, watch Napoleon Dynamite.

The moment you walk in, you're surrounded by colorful artwork, warm energy, and a welcoming homestyle atmosphere that instantly makes you feel like a regular. The Carne Asada platter was outstanding, tender, flavorful, and perfectly paired with seasoned rice, beans, grilled onions, and fresh lime that elevated every bite. The tacos were easily among the best I've had, fresh, bold, and packed with authentic flavor. I also love that it's BYOB and they'll gladly open your beverage with no extra fee, a small touch that makes the experience feel even more hospitable. The cashier and server were genuinely kind, attentive, and welcoming, creating service that felt personal rather than transactional. Be advised they don't take reservations, so we arrived around 5:30, and we were able to get a table outside. Both the indoor and outdoor areas are small although they have a long bar along one side of the restaurant. Our server gave us the menus, and we ordered drinks. I loved my Honeyrita which was an interesting twist on a margarita made with honey. There is a two drink limit for this one although with all the ice, I didn't think there was that much tequila. My husband enjoyed his Mai Tai which tasted tropical and delicious. As an appetizer, we started with chips and guacamole which our server said were both homemade. I also had the three-shrimp tacos as an entree which were good but light on the shrimp. I asked for the chef to kick up the spice level which did make a difference. My husband was still hungry after his street tacos with steak. Be aware the sides of rice and beans are on the smaller side. Usually when we enjoy Mexican cuisine, we're stuffed. That wasn't the case this time. Also, we had to ask twice for utensils and napkins which were not on our outdoor table ahead of time. (In general, there was no decor on the tables, not even small votive candles.) The family next to us had to do the same and ask for utensils as well.
