My wife and I enjoy going out to a good breakfast on Sundays and we decide to try someplace different. While in our idling car, still parked in our driveway we did a search for breakfast locations. We were checking various East County diners, including Spring Valley. Chiroys popped up and we liked the photos and the reviews were really good. The cafe is located in an older strip mall on Campo Road not far from the 94. We entered the Chiroys and it was very clean and tastefully decorated. Not over the top, it had a nice comfortable feel. The hosts told us we could choose our own seating, inside or outside. We chose a booth inside of the cafe. The menu is a blend of both traditional American breakfasts and Guatemalan breakfasts. My wife chose the waffle breakfast, which included eggs and a meat (she chose sausage). I went with churrasco which came with eggs, black beans and grilled plantains. The meat appeared to be flap-meat and your choice of flour or corn tortillas. My breakfast was amazing. The meat was cooked to perfection! Tender, juicy, and very flavorful. The eggs were cooked to perfection as was everything else on the plate. I went with flour tortillas and they were steaming hot. Zero complaints and I ate every single item of my breakfast, cleaning the plate with my last piece of tortilla. My wife told me that she too enjoyed her breakfast very much, but after looking at mine wished she had went with one of the Guatemalan dishes. I am so happy we tried this place out! Spring valley is about 20 minutes from where we live, but Chiroys is worth the trip. This place is a hidden gem in this small older strip mall. The owner, Martine, was our server and he was very pleasant to talk to and you could tell he has a lot of pride in what he is doing. Had brunch at Chiroy's Cafe with my husband today. This place is great. We have been here a handful of times now. It's been a while since we last went and our server still remembered us. It's always nice to feel like your server remembers you and what you like. I love the mixed hash, it comes with bell peppers and mushrooms, sausage and bacon. So I get my veggies, carbs and some protein, in addition to the two eggs. The cafe de olla is good as well. The menu is expansive with so many solid options that you'll actually struggle to decide, which is a good problem to have. I went with the huevos rancheros served alongside crispy hash browns and refried beans with melted cheese. Instead of the traditional tostadas, it came with a mini quesadilla. You don't get the crunch of the tostada but the melted cheese in the quesadilla was nice. The staff is genuinely warm and welcoming. It has that family-feel that's hard to miss. Came to this place on a whim for breakfast and I must say I was impressed. The place itself is not very modern or flashy but the food is good. I had the Breakfast Combo and it was more than I could finish. I am very particular about pancakes so I was eager to try these. They were fluffy without being spongey which I liked. The hashbrowns were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. My daughter had the French Toast and she loved it. It doesn't taste like it just covered in cinnamon. Its more like a cinnamon sugar. Like a churro. Its addictive to say the least. My husband had the breakfast tacos and he was sold from the first bite. This is one of those gems that you just happen to run across and wonder how you didn't know about it. I came here with friends for breakfast one morning after they happened to find it during a search for a new breakfast spot. We were promptly and warmly welcomed in and seated immediately. The breakfast menu had a lot of options with a good variety of food from traditional American food to Mexican food to Guatemalan food. I stuck with the traditional French toast breakfast this time, but I will definitely be back and trying more. All of our food was cooked perfectly and was delicious. The staff was very attentive. My Mom suggested we try this place as we heard it was really good. They have a wide range of food that includes American and Mexican. Upon walking in the door, I noticed the restaurant was clean and orderly. We were seated at a comfortable booth and greeted by the owner, and he showed us to our table. The nice waitress came over and took our order. I was really overwhelmed because there were so many dishes on the menu to choose from. I decided to get a Pollo Asado or they call it Chicken burrito with sliced avocado on the side. My Mom ordered Pozole. The chips came with our meals with a hot sauce that was so flavorful and also an Avicado salsa I think it is. So delicious I need the recipe! Our food was served shortly after. The meals were ample in size and that first bite was perfection! The food is homemade with love, flavor, and care. I told the owner how much we loved the food. He stopped by our table to talk to us a little bit. He was so friendly and warm hearted. This place feels like a place that people go to for "COMFORT FOOD" with a clean, orderly, and pleasant environment. I love how they also praise God with some photos on the wall. Chiroy offers Mexican American and Guatemalan (Chapín) cuisine. I come in for breakfast to sit and enjoy the calm yet vibrant vibe. The menudo is to die for. I typically don't finish it in 1 sitting so I order it in a to go bowl. The grilled food is the best if you ask me. I haven't found another restaurant that offers Guatemalan food but the food reminds me of the time I spent traveling Guatemala. read more

I had a nice breakfast here at Chiroy's Cafe new location in Spring Valley or Casa de Oro in Campo Road. I had the trio of breakfast tacos plate. You get to choose your protein for your tacos and sides for $12.99 plus tax, and $3.49 plus tax for regular coffee. I had hash browns and black beans on the side. The breakfast tacos came generously filled with scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, and hash browns. I wish I would of known that the tacos came with hash browns in them, because I would not of had them as my side. At any rate, the tacos were tasty. The eggs were well scrambled and the bacon was really good. The hash browns were good but they could of been crispier. They need that nice crunch, the ones in the tacos and on the plate. Also, I thought the breakfast tacos would of been better served if they chopped the bacon up and mixed it with the eggs, and garnish the tacos with either some chopped green onions or a touch of pico de gallo. Just a touch. The black beans were of the refried variety. I thought they were whole when I ordered them, but nevertheless, they were tasty and creamy. Service was very pleasant. Another great breakfast at Chiroy's! If you've not been in a while, you need to come and check out the renovations! They removed the interior wall to open up the space and the bar area is so open and airy now. And Chiroy's now serves beer and wine. Today, we sat on the front patio to enjoy the view of Mt Helix. We ordered huevos rancheros with flour tortillas and a veggie omelette with fresh fruit and homemade English muffin and decaf coffee. I wish they offered a decaf version of their cafe olla--I did try their caffeinated cafe olla but I can't handle caffeine any more Martin Chiroy is the owner and he kept my coffee and water filled and served our food promptly. Tried Chiroy's for the first time and it was a success! Although they serve much more than breakfast, I am most excited to have another breakfast spot option close to home. I assume it is the same owners as the one in National City, and after reading the good reviews there, I had to give this a shot. We went on a Sunday at approximately noon. The place was clean, had several other patrons, and we were acknowledged immediately by a friendly staff member. The menu had plenty of options but I knew from the other location's reviews that we were ordering the chilaquiles. We opted for the red sauce, beans, and potatoes for sides. We also got an order of the birria tacos. As for the chilaquiles, they were delicious! The perfect amount of sauce for the chips to be coated but they still maintained a good amount of crunchiness. The potatoes were seasoned well and the beans were flavorful. The birria tacos were juicy and tasty as well. The food came out quickly and the salsas provided were both great. The wait staff was friendly and attentive and the overall experience was positive. We will definitely be back. The price point is on par with most other breakfast spots around town and the portion sizes are good. I recommend giving them a try. read more

Stopped here today - so pleasantly surprised! It is newly opened in the old "Rana's" spot. The menu looks fantastic. I got the Mix Omelette because it was first on the menu and I intend coming back until I've worked my way through the menu. The omelette was so fluffy and delicious - the generous fillings were l cooked before adding to the omelette and it made such a difference.
