I had been seeing this tailor shop and needed to have some clothes altered. I popped in today to have them work on my clothes. There were 2 women being fitted. One was finishing up and heading into her dressing room. The other was in her dressing room about to go in from of the mirrors. During this transition, the young Asian man never acknowledged me walking in or taking a seat. The Second Lady went into her fitting room. The First Lady came out. The guy goes behind the counter. Still nothing... for the 3 minutes I sat there, no one said a word to me and there was another person in the back.... There is NO WAY I'd spend my money with people that won't even look at me or acknowledge my presence in the store. I'm sure they do good work for some people but I had a hilarious and horrible experience, that involved other customers at the store arguing with the tailor in my defense I had paid $100 to have some pants tailored around the rear, and hemmed. When I tried them on they seemed to fit fine, I was in a rush after a long day at work and the tailor said they looked perfect and I left. When I got home I tried on my new tailored pants to show my sexy Colombian girlfriend. (She's really hot) My girlfriend noticed how tight they were in the rear, when I looked in the mirror we both started to laugh, she said they looked like yoga pants in the back I called up the next day and the tailor told me to bring them in and they could fix them. When I got there the tailor told me she had never performed any alterations on the pants. I had already paid for the alterations they supposedly did and now was being told they didn't actually do the work. I considered asking for a refund but whatever, big deal. I'm not going to throw a Karen temper tantrum fit over $100 worth of work. (People video that shit and I'm not trying to go viral) After a few days the pants at the bottom started to unravel. I took them in and the tailor told me she had never seen my face, and it was impossible that they performed any work on them. She then started to ask other customers in the store if they agreed with her and they actually started to argue against her in my defense. I stayed cool and mellow the whole time, I hate "Karen attitude" and am always very intentional to be respectful and never escalate when dealing with poor customer service. After the tailor continued to argue with other customers in the shop, the tailor told me I should contact the lawyer. She pulled out her purse and out came 100 cards, after she looked through all her cards that had fallen on the floor she handed me the lawyers card and told me to take a photo of it. Originally she had told me she owned the shop but when I came in after the fact she said she wasn't the owner. She told me not to come back, at this point everyone in the store was laughing and rolling their eyes. Another customer even called out the tailor for clearly lying and changing stories the tailor then dismissed her and went to somebody else who had just walked in asking their opinion on the pants. Mrs.Cho is like the loving grandmother everyone wishes they had growing up. She was very kind, and walked me through the process of getting my suit to fit perfectly. Her turn around time was wonderful, she had my suit and another pair of pants I needed for a wedding this week done; two days before she told me it would be done! When I came in to pick it up, she told me to try it on and i agreed I felt like Tom cruise. Absolutely wonderful lady, Top Notch skills. She mention prior to this she worked for Neiman Marcus for 13 years and it shows, this is her 50th year doing this, so if you want the best she's the one you want. I brought in a pair of hiking shorts with a broken zipper. I was told it would take about a week and prepaid for the service. Today, upon getting the repaired shorts back, I noticed two things: the new zipper was a bit misaligned and it would not lock. In other words, the zipper would simply unzip with movement. I took the shorts back to the tailor and was told that they do not carry locking zippers in this style/size. Naturally I was not pleased to say the least. After some back and forth, the implication was that the issue was mine, not theirs. I should have been more clear in my request. And, this was idiotic. If they could not replace the zipper to match, they should have informed me prior to the work. At this point, I demanded my money back. This was done but not without a snide comment that not only did I get my money back but I also got a new zipper. Over the years, we have brought many items to the shop for repair. They have always done amazing work, until now. We are wondering if this is a function of a change of management. Nonetheless, we will never use their services again. I took something in to get hemmed and she laughed in my face, called her co-worker up to come laugh with her at the dress I needed hemmed. Been going there 18 years and all was well until I had a complaint. I paid $70 for an alteration and for buttons to be threaded on my sport coat with stronger thread. I lost 3 buttons the very first day I wore it and was about to lose a 4th.The older lady (Cho I am guessing) was rude and used the following excuses: It wasn't her work, they don't use that type of thread, the brand of sport coat was not good (Ralph Lauren), I took too long to bring it in after the issue. She told me she would do the buttons, but I would have to go find them and bring them back for her and that she would no longer take any more of my clothes. RUN I have never left a review for a business until now. Completely unprofessional. I felt harassed from the first second of my encounter with Cho. It was to the point that I left in tears. If I could leave zero stars for this place I would. My husband had to call after I left to cancel the service and pick the dress up because I felt that uncomfortable to speak up myself. I brought in a velvet bridesmaid dress for alterations. It needed the shoulder straps taken in and hemmed. Cho began to explain the material would make it pricey. She quoted me $180. When I didn't immediately agree to the price she started telling me I was dumb and that my friend picked a terrible dress. I was in no way disrespectful of her craft as I'm not a seamstress and don't claim to be but I wasn't expecting to pay that much and was slightly hesitant. I did nothing to warrant her behavior. Then the cherry on top, she literally asked "why I was even going to the wedding if I had a baby" (I brought my 7 month old son in with me) and that I have a husband who's a lawyer he'll pay for it. (1. I do have a husband but she just assumed this 2. No, he is not a lawyer???) Eventually she went down to $130 which is still ridiculously expensive considering a tailor in Oak Lawn charged me $40 TOTAL. Even so, the price isn't biggest problem here, the customer service is. Poor customer service. My roommate(dental student) walked in wearing scrubs asking the price to get a bridesmaid dress hemmed. The women in the store scoffed at her and questioned why somebody in healthcare would care the price for hemming. She then quoted $300 to get the dressed hemmed - which is more than the dress itself. She told one girl to walk into a changing room. Then within a minute she told a gentleman to walk into the same changing room. Super awkward. I wasn't going to write a review, but Cho really did a number on me and I haven't been able to stop thinking about my experience with how baffling it was. Cho not only yelled at me and made me cry (I was already having a bad day), but she threatened to call the police on me and call her lawyer/take me to court -- all because I found a minor flaw in her work -- a stain. I'm sure most people do this, but when I get work done on my car or clothes, I inspect before driving off/picking it up. It's nothing personal or against the business, I just want to make sure it's to my liking before I leave. God forbid you do this at Cho's. After trying on the dress, I took it off and inspected it and found a couple fresh stains. Annoying, but not big deal. I kindly asked Cho to remove the stains because I had brought a brand new dress for her to work on. She immediately got defensive and started blaming the dress factory and COVID-19 telling me that my dress was not new and going on about how it must've gotten stained through UPS/transportation. I didn't think it was that serious. I just wanted the stain out. I wouldn't have written a review at all. However, after her yelling at me, overcharging me (close to $200 to cut off a few inches from the bottom of the dress) and not giving me my dress back after I basically begged her in tears so I could go home, I decided to write one. She yelled and kept me for at least 30 minutes at her shop -- I had already paid her and just wanted to go home but she wouldn't let me go. Prior to finally leaving, she wanted me to sign a receipt saying I wouldn't write a bad review. I refused. If she didn't want a bad review, she shouldn't have behaved the way that she did. The woman who answered the phone was so nice and said if I came now they could do it on the spot. I had a few good experiences here, but my most recent experience was terrible. I brought in a gown for a gala that i just needed to have shortened a few inches. It was a brand new, un-touched dress from Saks. When I picked my dress up, the hem was completely uneven and was not what I asked for. When she asked how I liked it and pointed out that i wanted the hem to be completely even and not wavy, she got extremely defensive. She yelled at me in front of everyone else for about 30 minutes - telling me that it is my fault with the dress I bought, etc. After 30 minutes, she told me that she would fix the dress, on the condition that I 1) find a new tailor and 2) do not write a bad review. Reading through her reviews, it looks like she has threatened this on other people. I'd recommend to not risk getting bad reviews to not yell at your clients and tell them that you have a lawyer. read more

What a horrible and awful experience I just had!!! It was an absolute waste of my time! After spending almost an hour having a dress pinned and 10/15 minutes in a second dress, lady said she wouldn't do the work. She said she "knows me", which she doesn't, and that I wouldn't like it. Now this is after she had written up the ticket with pricing for the first dress. I seriously can not believe I even just that experience. I've gone there for five years and the lady that is normally at the counter is so nice, but she's on vacation. Could not have had a worse experience here... I went in to have a bridesmaid dress tailored. I needed about 3 inches off the front and back flaps, so only a length issue. The older woman hardly spoke English and was abrasive to begin with. She explained that the lining of the dress was attached and not separate, and it would be very difficult to sew the dress back the original way after taking off the inches. I tried to understand what she meant. She then explained that there was no way she could have it done in a week because it was difficult. She quoted me a price after initially asking me how much I wanted to pay. Once she discovered my profession, she seemed to want more money for the work, and began yelling, challenging me to get a "better price" from any other Tailor (I did, actually, in a more timely manner, and they mentioned nothing about the "difficult hem"). Then, the most bizarre thing happened!...she came to me and began acting sick. She had just received her COVID vaccine (she showed me her arm and started coughing) and then actually slid down against the wall, clutching her head and began sobbing saying that she wanted to help me but couldn't and felt bad, and then this somehow these theatrics were intermixed with being yelled at for being a difficult customer. FINALLY (after checking out three people who had walked in to pay in the meanwhile after me), she attempted to put the needles into the hem and at least try to begin. She placed one, got chalk to mark the new hem line, and then explained to me that if I wanted this finished in one week, she would have to take the exact same amount off the front flap and the back flap and then said that they be UNEVEN. I asked if she said she could make them even. She said NO, there was no way! (what?!) BUT, there were no refunds and I would have to pay in cash and there was no way to get them even but that I shouldn't complain or write a bad review. She then fell to the ground again, took the needle out and said she was not going to help me. She tried to iron out the chalk mark (which actually permanently marked the dress now), and then gave me back the dress and semi-yelled at me and wouldn't release the dress as I told her now I HAD TO leave. I used to come here for all of my alterations. Until one really bad experience. I brought a pair of jeans and asked for hemming. I specified that I did not want "original hemming." But upon picking up my jeans and inspecting them at home, I saw that they had used original hemming. I took the jeans back to the shop, wondering if there had been miscommunication. It turns out they had properly received my instruction, but had made a mistake. But instead of telling me about their mistake, they had just let me take my jeans home, apparently hoping I wouldn't mind. In fact, the lady at the counter told me that original hems are more expensive, but that they only charged me for regular hemming. She made it seem like I should be thankful for their mistake. I asked her to fix their mistake. Their effort to undo the hem resulted in a weird, thick hem. They ruined my jeans. I get it. Mistakes happen. But the way a business deals with their mistakes speaks volumes about them. Here, the proper way to handle the mistake would have been to honestly tell me about it when I picked up the pants and talk to me about how they could address it. But the way this situation was handled gave me enough of a bad taste in my mouth to discontinue using them for future alteration needs. She's been in the business for years and does beautiful work. My husband had and significant weight loss. She tailored multiple Brooks Brothers suits to perfection. I had a J. McLaughlin blouse that almost came to my knees. While I waited she took it up, matching the hem line. While some of her charges seem high, think of replacement cost. She produces a brand new garment. I picked up my pants and told her "no thank you" and explained that they are older and not worth that amount of money to me. She then grabbed one pair out of my hands and wanted to start negotiating the price. At this point, I was over it (and her) and asked her to give me my pants back. She refused. Ruined 3 brand new pairs of pants making them far too short, where you can see the socks, and didn't leave enough material in the hem to fix them. 3 pairs one prada, one Jon varvatos and one hugo boss, each were around 250 a pair, so she ruined 750.00 worth of clothing and wouldnt pay for any of it. She wants to do a redo, but there isnt enough material to fix it. She was also unfriendly and accusatory, as if I asked for my pants to be too short. Also, the right leg was even shorter than the left leg on one pair, and they only marked one leg, not both, so they must guess on the other leg. , i wish I would have read these other horrible reviews before coming here and having my clothes ruined. Ms. Cho (the owner of this shop) is the kindest and most caring woman. I called after they were closed because my birthday was the next day and I had an outfit emergency. She told me to come in that night even though they were closed, and that she could get it done by the next day. My outfit required 5 hours of tailor work to make the sleeves wider, but Ms. Cho still offered to wake up early the next morning to have it done. If you are looking for alterations, this is the BEST place to go. I found Cho's by reading google reviews, so it is only right that I pass on the good fortune. Cho is the sweetest, quickest, and most gifted tailor that I have had the pleasure of meeting. She took my measurements for 3 different pieces within 15 minutes. I altered two pants and a skirt for LESS THAN $90. Cho's prices are unmatched because she genuinely cares about her customers. I was unsure whether or not to raise the hem of my pants. Cho HONESTLY told me not to - instead to save my money, and to leave the extra length for comfort and styling options with heels. She's rather delivery quality work than focus on her own profit - that is very admirable. Also, she was ABSOLUTELY RIGHT to keep the length! Now, I have 3 beautifully tailored items that fit me perfectly and I am so happy to finally get some use out of them. You can see in the image, one of the pants that Cho perfected for me. The fabric was slippery and tricky, but Cho got the waist taken in to a comfortable and flattering degree. I have been using Cho's Tailor for the last 5-6 years. Previously, I thought that this shop did great work and were friendly. However, recently, I had Cho's tailor a suit for me. Everything was fine with the work except for the fact that they took in the legs a little too much, which made the suit fit uncomfortably. I took the suit in so that they could fix the problem not thinking that it would be a big problem (I'd previously taken things back to get fixed without issue). This time, when I went in, the lady behind the register immediately says, "I remember you...you really wanted us to make the legs and the butt tiiiight." I said, "I never said that, and I doubt you remember me because it's been a little while." She was adamant that she remembered me, which I find to be implausible to say the least as I had the work done before the New Year. I paid for the other suit I was picking up, and she started looking over the stitch work saying, "this isn't our work...you must have brought the wrong pants." I reply, "there is no way that this is the wrong pair of pants. And, I only come here for tailoring." She remained steadfast and insisted that they did not do the work and would not fix it. I politely let them know that I would not return if they would not stand by their work and make things right. She responded by saying that they would fix the pants for an additional $15.00 (on top of the $60+- I originally paid to have this suit altered). I rarely post negative reviews and try to be conscientious of small business owners as the son of a small business owner. But, the fact that this lady essentially accused me of lying based on the fact that she can eye-ball stitching on a pair of pants and 100% determine that this work was not done at this shop, is beyond poor customer service. I have also seen them treat other people in a similar fashion but had just assumed that the customer may have been out of line. After my experience, I will be looking for a more professional tailor, and I would recommend others to do the same. read more

This place may be conveniently located in West Village and it might be a good idea to drop off your articles of clothing to get tailored so they fit better because you just had success with a cumbersome workout program and diet, but I urge you to think twice. The small elderly Asian lady has scammed me twice! I gave the benefit of the doubt the first time, thinking surely she didn't overcharge me by 20% intentionally. Trick me one, shame on you. Steal from me twice, shame on me! I wasn't about to let this happen again. First off, I went in and she said $30 to get my blazer taken in. When she handed me the ticket, it was $50. No big deal, perhaps she forgot to add in the sleeves. When I pick up my garment and she rings me up, she runs my tab for $65. I said hold on a minute, can you tell me why my ticket says $50 and you just ran my card for $65? She was caught and it was obvious by her flabbergasted demeanor and red hand. She couldn't string together a sentence that made sense and went on about how she didn't know she just ran my card for an extra $15. Customers came in, the line added stress to the already exacerbated situation. After mumbling and floundering around like a fish out of water for a few minutes, she said she would hand me a $10 and "make things right." They are likely doing this multiple times a day to customers that aren't paying attention. I URGE you to take this into consideration and do business with a more HONEST business.
