Coffee was in its name, but when I visited ChocoLate Coffee, I was all about a cup o tea. Fortunately, ChocoLate didn't disappoint! I ordered a 20 oz Tropical Goji tea ($2.74), which came with mango pieces and other tropical natural flavors, with a green tea base. I really loved the flavors! There was a fruity flavor that wasn't overpowering, and the green tea didn't have that strong green tea taste that I've had so many times before when I drank green tea. For the caffeine fiends out there, rest assured, there's some caffeine, although they list it as moderate to "lite" caffeine, which in my case, keeps me wide awake at near midnight after having my cup at 4pm. In addition I also got a slice of their Lemon Marscapone cake ($3.75), and man were the flavors on this thing good! Light, VERY lemony (which was great), and an icing that was creamy and just delicious. I planned to eat this when I got home but it didn't make it that far it was so good! Speaking of good, customer service was just that. They were very friendly, gave me their suggestions and service with a smile was the name of the game here. Top notch group here. Located off of shallowford road in the Shallowford Exchange strip which is home to several small restaurants and shops, but anchored by a not quite full size publix. Parking is a little weird here as it's sectioned off depending on where you are, but I've never been turned away because I couldn't find a spot. There is a red light exit, and trust me when I tell you you'll likely need it with the congested traffic in the area. There's a lot that ChocoLate has to offer, besides the play on their name. I'll have to come back sometime to try one of their chocolate Lattes soon, because I'm definitely a fan!! read more

This little cute coffee shop located next to Publix and other restaurant is a hit and miss. It reminds me of a local coffee shop in a romantic movie where you end up meeting your future spouse. Generally, this place is usually populated and has limited space available to lounge around or be on your laptop. So my first experience here was great because I ordered a toasted almond mocha. It was so delicious, piping hot, and creamy... my last experience here was terrible, I wasted $6 on a bitter , bland cold brew. I drank so much of their complimentary water to wash out the after taste of that bitter brew. I'm addicted to cold brews at Dunkin' Donuts, but I gotta support small local business. And if it means drinking toad brew, so I'll order something different. Maybe next time, maybe next time.... read more

Second time in today. 1st time not bad but the muffins the manager was pumping up were not good. Today I go in for coffee, and when paying told they have a $3 minimum for a credit card. Reminds me of some of these gas stations around town. If they made better food as previously mentioned I would buy something. The idea is we have a $3 minimum so if you come in for coffee you are going to have to buy some of our lousy muffins. So the question is, did you save money enforcing a $3 minimum card fee. I am a coffee snob, so this place was such a sweet find. I have to admit that though I prefer a strong, dark cup of black french press - this place makes *hands down* the best specialty coffee drinks. I have been to ChocoLate twice, once to this particular location. It has a very artsy, homemade vibe to it... you know, chalkboard paint on the walls, mismatched tables and chairs, light fixtures hanging at various lengths. Overall, it is a really chill atmosphere to sit down with friends or solitaire to do some work. The service is incredibly friendly and helpful. They indulged us with detailed descriptions of different coffee drinks and made the selection process much easier. I ordered the dark and white mocha and my friend ordered the banana foster frappe. Both were insanely delicious... I drank the entire mocha down in less that five minutes. It was made perfectly - smooth, rich, and sweet - it wasn't like Starbucks at all. Though I've only been here once, I'd definitely go back again if I were in the area. I stopped here on a rainy Monday evening as I was attempting to waste some time before a Buford Highway UYE. It's in a strip mall, adjacent to a Publix and some other things that I didn't pay attention to. Because of all of the other stores around, parking may become a little more difficult to come by during peak hours. There were lots of folks sitting around working away, but I was able to quickly find a tiny table at which to camp out for an hour or so. There are also couches and such if that's more your thing. I got a cozy feeling from this place - I could likely set up shop here for hours and be perfectly content. I made my way to the counter and was immediately struck by the variety of milk options that they offered. Rice milk and almond milk? Nice! I ordered my usual (sugar free vanilla almond milk latte) and was not disappointed. I made a point however to ask what other sugar free syrup options they offered...and they had a lot. More than the normal vanilla and hazelnut answer that I've become accustomed to. Also, super friendly service here. The guys behind the counter answered my questions enthusiastically and with a smile. FYI - the wireless here is password protected. So be sure to ask for the password at the counter after making your purchase. Or just jump on the free Publix wifi, which I may or may not have done on this particular visit. read more

ChocoLate was one of my favorite spots while riding into Midtown. Their chai lattes are second to none. The fact that they have several chai options (gf, spiced, iced, like a milkshake, etc) excites me alone. They also have great baked goods like pies, cakes, macaroons, brownies, cookies, bagels, muffins, etc. If I wasn't in a chai mood, I'd order a fruit smoothie (mango) and maybe a banana. The restaurant is a small coffee shop. I've noticed people meeting (group of guys having morning Bible study), students studying, and other patrons just enjoying a moment out of the house. There's a small room you can also reserve for free if you're hosting a small meeting or event. You should stop by. It's nice to break away from the larger chain coffee places sometimes. read more

It has coffee, caramel syrup and hazelnut syrup. It was a perfect balance of coffee and sweet flavor. Nothing else was needed. My husband had the bananas foster frappe. It was exactly what it should be. A blend of bananas, milk, caramel, and ice. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it was a bit pricey. Both of our drinks totaled about $14. I don't drink coffee but I met some people here so I got to try it out. I wanted iced green tea so they brewed it and poured it over ice ($2.48, 12oz.). We also go the cookies and cream, which is basically a smoothie with an Oreo inside ($4.74, 12oz.). I didn't try it but I imagine it's sweet. Friends got a slice of the chocolate cake with mascarpone in it ($3.75). Didn't try that either but it looked sweet. They have a good amount of desserts to choose from. The interior design theme was lacking and it didn't have that clean design to it. Maybe that's the look. The place itself is slightly showing signs of age but it's not beat down. My favorite coffee shop from my high school days. Since it was right down the street from campus, I can remember spending quite a few afternoons here sipping a mocha and doing some homework while waiting for my parents to pick me up - before I could drive myself, that is. Even after, ChocoLaté was always my favorite place to stop on Friday mornings, in between end-of-the-year exams, or whenever I needed a quick pick-me-up before rehearsals. This is an ideal spot for any kind of work, be it independent or academically-related, and is especially great for group project meetups if you go to the nearby high school like I did. Someone else mentioned that this seems like the kind of coffee shop you'd meet your future spouse at and, ironically, this is one of my boyfriend and I's earliest date spots. I can remember chatting away by the chalk board with coffee in hand and not a care in the world like it was only yesterday when, in reality, it's been a year or two now. This is one of the coolest hangouts, in the world. The true name being ChocoLate Coffee (I've submitted a correction), it's an enticing name for us chocolate lovers. Don't let the name fool you though because they don't just serve chocolate lattes, they serve so much more. It's a dessert coffee house and comes complete with big poufy chairs, couches, loads of reading material (almost like a library) and free Wi-fi. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, but on the not so happy side, indoors is sometimes cramped. Some nights they have local performers who play some really great music. They boast serving organically grown coffee for the purest and offer specialty drinks to include sugar free choices, yummy sounding frappes and plenty of other drinks such as hot chocolate, sodas and the like. There is something there for everyone and the cost is comparable to that of Starbucks, so it's not overly expensive. Another notable service they offer is what they term 'latte art'. That's right, art. As they add the milk, they create little designs and pictures. It's very unique and interesting and while it doesn't improve the flavor (I mean how can you improve perfection anyway?) it gives them a lead over other servers. Though the coffee is truly very delicious, it is not what I like best about the place. The overall atmosphere is what makes it a real winner. It's friendly and comfortable, and not designed like a typical Starbucks, which for me is just another restaurant. This place is more like what a coffee house is supposed to be about. I can only really think of two downfalls. The first one I've already mentioned and that being the small size of the place. Granted, I've never been elbow to elbow but I would imagine they'd get more business if the size were larger, yet maybe they like it small. The second one is the hours. I realize they're open until 10:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, but it would be nice if it were open much later. Many weekends after seeing a show, or going out in general, I'd like to stop off and have some coffee before going home. Ah well, you can't have everything I guess. Right off 85 on the way to or from Downtown Atlanta, this is a great OTP-almost ITP coffee shop. It is off Shallowford Road in a shopping center next to Publix. They have many different options here of not just flavors and coffees, but milk alternatives, sugar alternatives, baked goods, and they even sell fancy yummy chocolate and other little things. They can make your coffee pretty much any way you want them to and if you're feeling indecisive, they have great baristas and also great pre-thought out-ideas for you to try. The Berry White Chocolate is amazing and different from other coffee shops. They also have ciders, hot chocolates, and caffeine-free alternatives. The space is colorful and ample. I found it a nice place to study on a Sunday afternoon and noticed it's also a very popular meeting spot to hang out with friends and chat. The baristas are very friendly and seem to know a lot of the regulars who come in. Despite the $50 Starbucks card that I got as a present last month, I have made a conscious effort to avoid chain coffee (despite the occasional Caribou, I must confess). ChocoLate is the antithesis of Starbucks, especially since it is in the Emory area. Although I'm not a coffee addict, their coffee and non-coffee drinks are unique and intriguing enough to make me want to try something new every time. The spiced chai and chocolate chai are both amaaaaazing and not to be missed. Part of the appeal of this place is it's coziness, and of course, the free wireless. However, it can tend to be on the crowded side. I once witnessed a fight for a power outlet...it was a sad sad moment. Do yourself a favor and try to skip this place during Emory's finals week, unless you want to experience stress just by being in close proximity to frantic students with flashcards and textbooks. An indie coffee shop (or at least a small, local chain) should meet at least one of two criteria: hard-to-find excellent coffee that sets it apart or a funky-cool vibe that makes it a destination away from the ordinary. This location of ChocoLate achieves neither. The coffee is no better or worse than Starbucks while being about 20% higher, so it can't stand on its product alone. The location, while convenient, is dishwater-dull, cramped, and has none of the fun artsy-craftiness of the Decatur site. The deck almost adds a flourish....but no. While it allows al fresco, it also overlooks (from Northwest to East) a Publix parking lot, Shallowford road, its own parking lot and a line of trees. Sitting outside sucking up commuter fumes with an asphalt parking lot on three sides is the opposite of 'charm'. The service has alternated between indifferent and self-absorbed with no pendulum pauses between. There are too many good, independent shops and reliable chains for me to waste my time and money here. read more

Went here for the first time today! I'd always seen a different location that is kind of close to work (near the VA hospital) but had never stopped by before. This location is off of Shallowford Road, close to 85. It's not huge but it's a pretty comfy place. We got the hazelnut hot chocolate and the mudslide shaker (cold frappe, Irish cream, chocolate, coffee). Both were really good. For the mudslide shaker -- may be a good idea to go up a size cause the 12 oz tends to go pretty quickly. 12 oz costs 4 something while the 20 oz is about 5.90. I could probably share that with my husband next time. They had some other enticing flavors like chai-chocolate, bananas foster frappe, etc so we definitely will be back sometime. I asked for the right coffee but they wanted me to pay for a new (but right) one, so i left without the coffee that i paid for - just empty handed. I think it's funny that the ChocoLate barista dont know their coffee and are ignorant about providing right customer service. it is one thing that they dont know their product but providing such horrible service just makes this small cafe smaller. never going back read more

I love this place, and visit it at least once or twice a week. The coffee's great, the pastries are usually good, the staff is excellent, and (most importantly) the atmosphere is superb. The make-up of the people who inhabit the coffee house changes throughout the day - from retirees to students to hipsters and business people. It's a great place to bring your computer, do some work, and watch the world pass on by. It's also a great place to chat with neighbors or other folks you will probably run into here. Can't say enough about this place, with its great coffee, staff and atmosphere. Like other posters have said, the only thing I can hope is that they might expand the space in the future. read more

My official new coffee hangout spot because, aside from being an independently owned and operated small business, the coffee, chai tea lattes and array of freshly made cookies, brownies and biscotti are just really frickon good! I particularly enjoy the chocolate or spiced chai tea latte with almond milk (you can request almond or soy milk for a nominal additional charge). The service is more personable, with phenomenally better coffee IMO than your typical chain providers. Great atmosphere, with free wifi, an array of couches, tables and space to work on your laptop, read or study; and you can tell that the staff really takes pride in giving back to the community through support of local youth sports teams and school functions as evidenced by the array of children's artwork on the walls, as well as the artwork of local artists. Definitely worth checking out -- two locations, one near Emory campus, down from the VA hospital, and another off of Shallowford in the Publix shopping center (and really convenient to the Regal Cinema 24 of of 85 North (I've stopped by to grab a coffee after movies). Nuts and bolts: I have been here a couple times with friends and my boyfriend. Pros: I like the variety of the menu and the specialty drinks. There is free WiFi if you purchase something. I am a fan of the Bananas Foster if I am in the mood for something cold. Chai if I am in the mood for something hot. Neutral: There is plenty of parking in this lot that is shared with Publix and some other businesses. However, because of all the businesses, it can be a bit tricky to get out of there depending on where you park. If you park in the thoroughfare for the entrance/exit, that is the worst.
