    Cookies and Cream macaron yummy!

Great bakery in kaimuki! Love their ube butter mochi and lemon bars! Their items change up from time to time so it's worth paying a visit to see what new items they have!

Mini lobster roll trio in taro buns. Being a small bakery they're able to quickly pivot to offering whatever is trendy.

It may sound a bit unusual to seek out a lobster roll at a bakery known for "chocolate" + "vanilla", but that's what I used to do. Cupcakes and macarons don't really catch my attention. But under the radar, petite, and reasonably priced, the lobster roll was a good impulse pickup on the way home. Sadly, owner Jill has moved on from that savory treat. But ... a tea sandwich set of one lobster and two truffle egg salad sandwiches, no crusts, of course. She's got my attention again. The scones are nicely glazed but not overly sweet. Interesting flavors like guava and ube will catch your attention. I find them good the next morning slightly warmed up and consumed with my morning beverage. Bread puddings with local flavors are a treat. Right now, her chewy butter mochi riffs and moist sweet quick breads are what's popular. Gau mochi? Add chocolate? Yum. Ube banana bread. Again, add chocolate chips! Moist and lick-your-finger-clean good. Take-away only, and the savory sandwiches are better if you take them home to let then get closer to room temperature. A local/AAPI/Woman-owned business to support + KeepItKaimuki!

The only thing that's basic is the name of this bakery... Chocolate + Vanilla is on 12th Ave in Kaimuki and nothing screams at you to say this is it...you just know it's the thing! What thing you say...? Bread Pudding, Butter Mochi, Scones, Brownies, Banana Bread and yup Creme Brûlée! Hmmm basic!? How about Blueberry Cream Cheese Bread Pudding, Almond Cookie Scone, Pandan Azuki Bread Pudding, Strawberry Scones, Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding, Taro Sweet Bread Pudding, Ube Banana Bread w/Choc Chips, Ube Butter Mochi just to name a few that they had this day I stopped by. Today I picked up some Ube Banana Bread, Ube Butter Mochi and Almond Cookie Scones, these are all going to my holiday sweet treat pack to friends, and following them on Instagram @chocolateandvanilla808 is a must as they constantly reinventing themselves going savory and off the menu. Don't forget to grab a drink as well either a Coffee Jelly, Butterfly Pea Lemonade, or how about some Clam Chowder! I would've grabbed their Ube and Vanilla soft serve swirl but I just came from their neighbor Via Gelato so ube I'll be back for that another day. Thank you!

Business is located in Kaimuki area. There is no table and chairs to sit down inside but there is a bench outside. The store has a showcase of food. They include bread pudding, mochi, scones, and specials of sandwiches or soups. I love the coffee jelly and clam chowder soup which is thick. Owner is friendly.

Scones 6pk for $19 (ube, almond cookie, strawberry, blueberry)

Chocolate + Vanilla is a small unassuming hidden gem located on 12th st. in Kaimuki just a few doors down from Otto Cake. I am so glad that we found this little bakery because not only do they have yummy treats for us humans but they also sell yummy treats for our fur babies (my dog told me). I took home a variety 6pk of scones for my humans and a small bag of peanut butter crisps for my fur baby. My favorite flavored scone was the almond cookie. It was so soft, almost cake like and very moist. It tasted just like an almond cookie! Second favorite was the strawberry flavor, third was the ube and last was the blueberry. The strawberry flavor wasn't too sweet and didn't taste artificial, it was also very soft and moist. The ube had a very rich ube flavor and a nice sugary sweet glaze, it wasn't as soft or moist as the other two flavors but still good. The blueberry was the most disappointing. It had lots of fresh blueberries and tasted good but was very dry and crumbling. My fur baby loved his peanutbutter crisps! He gobbled down 3 in the blink of an eye! Honestly I would come back just for the almond cookie and strawberry scones but would also like to try some of the other baked treats offered as well.

When I'm in the mood for a small dessert or looking to gift something sweet to a friend, I'll come to Chocolate + Vanilla. They have a nice assortment of butter mochi, with rotating flavors. The ube and guava are both guaranteed to please all butter mochi enthusiasts. It's a bit pricey at $7.99 for four pieces, but they're packaged nicely and are great for gifting. I haven't tried her savory sandwiches yet, but they sure look good.

Been wanting to try this place out for the longest time! This cute bakery shop is located in the heart of Kaimuki, right across the street from 12th Ave Grill. With street parking located up front or around the back, there's no excuse for you not to stop by. When we got there, one of the workers greeted us promptly, there were no other customers before or after us, so at least it gave us some time to choose between what we wanted to order. Opted for the strawberry scone, blueberry French toast scone, strawberry sweet bread bread pudding and the classic ube and vanilla soft serve. Everything was fresh and delicious, but nothing specifically made me go wow, I gotta have this again type of feeling. I heard their savory dishes (lobster rolls) are to die for, so I think I gotta come back to give it one more try.

Coffee jelly w/ swirl soft serve and Ube butter mochi

Been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got a chance to stop by. Opted for the coffee jelly w/ swirl soft serve ($6.49) and Ube butter mochi ($7.99). I liked the flavors of the soft serve and the flavor of the coffee jelly. Not sure of the combo necessarily but I enjoyed it. The Ube mochi has good texture and flavor - could definitely taste the Ube. Kinda pricey at $8 for 4 square of mochi, though. Overall, glad I finally got to check this place out.

I really wanted to like Chocolate + Vanilla Bakery. It's a quaint shop located in Kaimuki and sells different types of scones and butter mochi. I ended up going with a lilikoi scone and butter mochi. My friend had the lemon blueberry scone and cheesecake butter mochi. The lilikoi scone (3/5) was just so-so. It was very dense and not as flaky as I would have liked. The lilikoi glaze was sweet and slightly reminiscent of lilikoi. The lilikoi butter mochi (1/5) was terrible. It tasted like something artificial and not at all like lilikoi. In fact. It was so bad I couldn't eat it. Such a bummer because lilikoi is my favorite! Both are seasonal. Prices are not cheap because 2 scones & 2 butter mochi ran me over $20. The shop is really cute and the person helping us at the register was very nice and helpful. That is why I'm bumping my review up to 3 stars purely because she was so friendly. Parking is either street or the adjacent public lots. With all the good bakeries in Oahu, I just can't see us returning. LOCATION: 3/5 FOOD: 2/5 SERVICE: 4/5 VALUE: 3/5 AMBIANCE: 4/5 PET FRIENDLY: not sure CLEANLINESS: 4/5 PARKING: 3/5

Chocolate and Vanilla Bakery sells an assortment of yummy desserts (primarily) but they also make some savory items as well. I arrived to Chocolate and Vanilla Bakery on a Saturday morning about 10 minutes before opening to find a short line already queued up! Wow, must be good! When the bakery opened and they rolled up our shade, those of us in line outside peered in at all of the goodies on display. It's hard to choose what to get with such a wide assortment! I got what I came for, which were their limited time gau mochi as well as some ginger chicken sandwiches to take to my friend. I also tried their coffee jelly with milk - unfortunately their milk ran out just shy of filling up the cup though. There is limited street/metered parking or you can park across the street in the city lot for a nominal fee.

"Cheesecake" butter mochi and ube scone. Both were flavorless. $12!

Tasty but overpriced - $20 for two bread puddings and 1 small scone. Am curious to try the butter mochi but not sure it'll be worth the $.

Dry cupcake with weird frosting that pretty much tasted like just whipped butter. Cupcake was small, not worth the $3.40.

The bigger the malasadas size the more airy and fluffy and more bread layers that will be inside. 2. their malasadas always taste fresh and the same quality each time. 3. their malasadas don't feel oily or heavy at all Overall I would highly recommend this place for their Malasadas! I'm so happy to have found them. I can back multiple times on my trip. They also have other desserts too that I have yet to try. They have ice cream, cakes, and other desserts Also tip: if you are ordering a malasada also order a coffee or a matcha drink to go with it. The cinnamon sugar from the malasada just matches so perfectly with a drink this restaurant is also a nice place for walking! There's lot of stores and restaurants to walk around! I was having an issue with my online order because my phone was being glitchy and they were so nice in helping :) Also wanted to note their branding is so cute!! They even sell merch items too

However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. Standard generous portion for a bingsu location, notably generous for an Ala Moana location. The location itself was free of insects despite being on a ground floor location with sugary desserts everywhere. Meh: The $14 (including 15% tip) dessert tasted too light and ice-like and appeared more translucent (rather than opaque white) than expected, leading me to think the milk was watered down, which may be how the establishment can make up the cost for the portion size while maintaining a spot in Ala Moana, especially given milk prices in Hawai'i, even if you're buying from Costco or direct from farmers. Also, tables were not cleaned after each party departed; that transparent puddle on your table might not be condensation and may instead be drool drops from the toddler who sat there before you. Overall: Good (not outstanding) experience. Knocked off 2 stars for combination of suspected diluted milk + unclean tables.
