We actually decided to walk into Chocolate and Vanilla on a whim today. Our original destination was Sconees for the lemon bars. Right before entering Sconees, I glanced the sign for Chocolate and Vanilla advertising macaron's. I had to go in and try them. Upon entering, we were greeted right away by a friendly woman. The shop is clean but the selection was limited (we went at about 3:00) when we got there. My husband got the Creamsicle macaron pack and I got a blueberry bread pudding. The Creamsicle macaron was delicious. It had the right amount of flavoring and the outside shell was perfect. I would have given Chocolate and Vanilla another star if the items that were sold out (plates and signs) were removed from the display case. Went here today to see how things were, since I only had the gift basket to base my experience from. I got six macarons and a chocolate something or another. The storefront is cute, door was a little hard to discern as belonging to the bakery, but the inside was clean and modern. There wasn't a lot of selection today but I bought a little bit of each macaron flavor. I tried the chocolate Haupia which was good but not as outstanding as the one I had that was pink. Still better than any of the other macarons from other bakeries though. I should explain that I don't like things overly sweet so I was under the impression that I didn't like macarons. The chocolate Haupia was a bit sweet for me but the flavor was otherwise good and the texture was nice. I feel like other bakeries have sugar bomb macarons and I dislike foods that taste sweet with no other discernible flavor. So if your tastes run towards that you probably won't like these macarons. I gave the other macarons to my family and they all seemed to like it. I ate the chocolate something or the other (I forgot the name of it) and that was bomb! It's individually packaged like the creme brûlée and has the texture of a thin pudding but a rich deep dark chocolate flavor that reminded me of the hot chocolate from the Swiss inn restaurant from long ago. For those of you who missed out on that wonder of the world, it's a little like the liquid part of a really good chocolate lava cake. I will dream of this in the future and it will make me wake up happy. So good! The owner was the one manning the store and she was very friendly and nice. She accepts plastic so payment is easy and you don't have to worry so much about whether you'll have enough cash on hand to pay. It is pricey but you do get what you pay for. I will probably go back in the future... Maybe even tomorrow if I'm in the area even though parking is a bear. I want to share that chocolate creation with more people :) read more

Honest review is scones weren't really scone texture. They were really dry and crunchy (not even in the middle). Tasted like a big cookie. To be fair, it was pretty flavor, not a lot of flavor, just suble. Butter mochi was average like home baked. read more

So many yummy looking pastries, but I was there for the Ube/Vanilla swirl soft serve and a lobster roll. The soft swirl was delicious and the lobster roll was AMAZING. Big chunks of tender lobster piled high on a soft roll. I also had an Ube scone which was moist even the next day. The woman in the bakery was very pleasant. My review is mostly on the macarons. They were exquisite--not too sweet, moist, and had the right amount of crunch to it when you take a bite from it. I tried their chocolate truffle, salted caramel, and cookies and creme. Each one tasted exactly as one would expect with their flavors--definitely rich in flavor but light in taste! The macarons were 6 for $10. I purchased these for the first time to try at the Dîner en Blanc event I attended, and I was happy to discover they were delightfully delicious. My friends agreed these macarons were delicious and superior to the macarons we are accustomed to eating on this island, which are from. La Tour. I'm definitely coming back to Chocolate + Vanilla for macarons! I also tried their vanilla panna cotta with coffee jelly and the Crème brûlée. Both were delicious and rich in flavor but smooth in texture. I loved that both were not too sweet. The vanilla panna cotta with coffee jelly had a smooth taste and the combination was wonderful. I was worried the coffee jelly would be made to taste bold, but it was not. Hence, the combination reminded me of a rich creamy latte taste. In regards to their service, it was good and friendly. I walked in to the place to find no one behind the counter, but someone did come out from the back shortly after I approached the register. The transaction was smooth and quick. read more

Finally tried this place. We got the large Ube soft serve ice cream and 6piece melting moments cookies. The ice cream was on the runny side and the cookies were stale tasting. Overpriced for 2 items for $15. I would mind paying if it was good. Will not be going back. read more

Ok update here... went back to try creme brule and lemon blueberry bread pudding. I have to say goodbye to my summer diet plan because this bakery is in my hood and her desserts are good.The creme brule was just killer. Almost like the panna cotta but slightly richer. More custardy. I didn't taste any lemon flavor in the bread pudding, but it's ok because it really is ono. So fresh tasting and more bread than eggs like some bakery's bread pudding. The anglaise sauce added a nice touch to it. So glad she's knows how to make desserts and that she offers a variety not usually seen in bakeries like creme brule or panna cotta. My boyfriend loves to eat his sweets. Being that it was his birthday I wanted to get him some treats. Although I live in the neighborhood, I didn't even know about this bakery. I am all about customer service being that I have worked retail part time for 30 years. This place was simply awesome. Great and friendly customer service that I ended up buying more than I had intended. My bf loved everything but especially liked the cookies - melting moments as he calls it. Over priced and not as good as it looks. I finally came around to trying this place out after seeing it on my IG feed time after time. I got the pineapple li hing mui mochi bites, strawberry bread pudding, Ube bread pudding, panna cotta, and a strawberry tea. This review is based only on the macarons that I ordered. I needed a dozen for a luncheon on Saturday and ordered them to be picked up Friday morning. I was told over the phone that they could only offer me chocolate and red velvet. Rather disappointing since I had wanted an assortment. I also asked if they would still be good on Saturday and was instructed to keep them in the refrigerator until 2 hours before serving. They cost about $24 for the dozen. After tasting them on Saturday at our luncheon, I was very disappointed. First of all they were overly sweet. Secondly the fillings were unremarkable--seemed like the same vanilla filling in both the chocolate and red velvet--and oozed out when bitten. My friend also told me she didn't care for them (and she's had macarons in Paris, SF, etc.). I've had macarons from Laduree and Pierre Herme, also. Coincidentally, on that Friday night (the same day I had picked up my order), I attended a wedding with a dessert table done by A Cake Life which featured assorted macarons. Their macarons were exactly what I had hoped for: light, not overly sweet, delicious filling that did NOT ooze and even featured a second fruit filling at the very center. I wish I had ordered from them instead, but I hadn't known about their macarons previously. I regret to have to post a negative review since the customer service--both when ordering and picking up the order--was excellent. read more

This is one of my favorite bakeries. Wether you call or do a walk-in visit. Your always greeted and asked if there was anything the person could help you with.... You smiled?..... There are so many reasons why I am love this place. First off its in Kaimuki in my back yard and if u are just picking up part across the street they have a 15 minute grace. So basicly free parking. We tired the red velvet brownies, cookies n Cream and vanilla cup cakes. Great treat for the kids. Priced very reasonable for high quality ingredients. This was the second Cupcake place that I have tried in the last week and was disappointed yet again. The cupcake was dry and quite small. The frosting was at least double the size of the cake part. The frosting was not my favorite as it was a type of whipped cream, which I personally do not care for. So basically I paid $2.75 for mainly frosting. The cake was a plain vanilla while the frosting on one was Peanut Butter and the other Lemon Raspberry. I also purchased a Green Tea Macaroon for $1.75. While looking in the case I noticed that the Macaroons were not uniformed, they were all different sizes. How can you justify selling them for $1.75 when they are not even the same size. I think this might be the last Cupcake specialty place that I will try on the Island. It's cheaper to make them at home. read more

The girl who runs the register who is prolly the owner is super sharp. Normally I'm invisible but she get eagle eye so when I told her twice to save me Mochi she did -I was surprised my order wasn't lost. When you walk in here it smells like chocolate heaven... you want to eat the air. Cotton candy Mochi what a wonderful concept it's as if she read my mind. They have all kinds of daily butter Mochi specials, like ube or fruitty pebbles as well as bread puddings. Give it a whirl I can guarantee good service cuz the girl is super sweet. read more

Love this bakery and I'm sad that I no longer work in Kaimuki. Parking is plentiful with the big lots so it's easy to get to if you are in the area. The macarons are great with varied options and a good ratio of filling to cookie. I've seen some with other vendors that just seem to have a swipe of frosting in the middle - what good is that?! Prices are on par with other bakeries. And I tell everyone about the mac nut brownie! Yum!! I stalk them every day on insta, hoping that they will have macarons at Carvel Cafe since that is just down the street from my office. I have never had a problem with consistency when buying here, or having the macaron separate as posted by another yelper, even after leaving them in the fridge for a few days. My only negative (which may also be a positive) is that I can't get their goodies as often as I'd like. read more

I honestly have no idea how this place is in business. I got 4 different items: taro bread pudding, ube mochi bites, pineapple mochi donut, and ube tart. The butter mochi bites were actually gross.. and I don't say that about many desserts. No ube flavor and just BAD. the worst part was I didn't look at my receipt until after and realized they charge $8 for what is essentially one 4.5x3inch piece of butter mochi cut into 4 tiny pieces. I was fuming after I saw this, absolutely crazy! the bread pudding itself had very little flavor, it came with a taro sauce to drizzle over..which had no taro flavor and was just sweet. The worst part was the texture of the bread pudding and the fact that it had a layer of egg on the bottom. If you know your bread pudding you know this is a no no and really unappetizing. The mochi donut was the most flavorful item but it was just artificial flavor and very strong. The ube tart again had no ube flavor and really not any flavor at all, it was just dyed purple. Don't waste your time or money, I'm still upset about wasting mine. read more

2-1/2 stars. Tiny shop on 12th Avenue. Nice workers. BUT, I'm not impressed by their goods. Came here twice and have tried their cupcakes and brownies. After the first visit, I left feeling like this place was average. Despite their nice décor, their baked goods were just as good as any average neighborhood bakery. The cupcakes taste like Betty Crocker's. Boring flavors. The frosting is very whipped cream tasting without any special tastes. The brownie is average. I'd rather spend my money at the nearby Otto Cake or Sconie's. read more

I've had lots of macarons and these were made well, but the shop is really small and I was disappointed (like others) to have made the trip out there to find a only a few common flavors available, nothing particularly exotic or local like I was hoping for. I found better macarons at the Hyatt farmers market on Thursdays. they were just as well made, but offered more local flavors, were less expensive, and larger in size. read more

UBE UBE UBE. a friend sent me an Instagram message showing that this place has UBE creme brûlée. So obviously we had to try it. We had lunch else where because this is really just a dessert place, it is very clean and has a display case in a small store in kaimuki. So we called ahead to see if they had the UBE brûlée since they do sell out of this quite fast. They did! So a speedy drive from kalihi we took!!! I got one and she got 2 and a soy coffee jelly drink. And off we went again. Once I got home I decided to really enjoy the tart, made a flat white and dug into my piece of absolute heaven. The texture was perfect, smooth and creamy the crackle on the top from the sugar crust was divine. And she did do the top just before we bought it as I heard her blow torch while we waited for her to get them.
