Stopped at Brug Ala Moana branch to pick up a few treats before heading home. That store is always busy, but the staff does a great job of keeping the lines moving and freshly stocked displays of pastries and baked goods. Our favorites are the Pastrami Focaccia and the Custard Pan. I especially love it when the cheese on the Focaccia melts and creates a small "Cheese " skirt on the edges . The custard in the Custard Pan is so creamy and delicious . Definitely worth it. Highly recommended

Savory pastry that we love for a quick bite. Fresh vegetables!!

Always wonderful service and delicious food! I try to purchase savory and sweet pastries. When shared with my family, everything disappears.

There are multiple locations of Brug in Haiwaii. The Ala Moana center has two: one near all the food, one next to the cat cafe. Their bread is extremely delicious. Reminds me of Japanese and Asian bread - less sweet, softer and puffier. Watch out, they do sell out easily. By the time it is afternoon, choices can be limited. They also have a sale section for one day old bread cute. Still tastes amazing. And it also means everything else is quite fresh. We tried : potato mochi chewy - and tasty Delicious creamy soft French milk bread. Lilikoi Hawaiian Monk seals - cute and delicious Mango Custard Hermit Crab These whimsical marine animal shaped pastry with tropical fillings are my favorites. There are monthly special bread (see photos) example May & June Specials Earl Grey & Lemon Butterfly Danish, Mango Custard Hermit Crab, Mango Danish. Brug offers such creamy, fresh, delightful, fun and creative bread and buns. I am so impressed. It is delicious. It does sell out so go early in the day for maximum choices. If you like a deal they do sell slightly one day old bread with a discount. That's cute too. I wish they are in California!! Staff is friendly!

Always cute, always delicious. Small shop that can be a little hard to navigate inside, but well worth it. I love the lilikoi seal and garlic cheese bread.

We have been going to Brug Ala Moana since they opened many years ago. Being located in the Lanai Food Court, it is noisy but makes it convenient for our ohana to choose what they want to eat. When I just want a quick bite, I love their Tuna Bomb. It satisfies my appetite for a quick breakfast or lunch on-the-go. My hubby and daughter loves the Bacon Epi to snack on because they can break it off in small pieces and ... who doesn't like bacon?! What I really enjoy is seeing their seasonal special pastries. During this visit, they were already featuring cute Halloween creations! It is self-serve so can take time to choose what you want then take your tray to the cashier where they package your selections. The food court is at the Ala Moana Shopping Center so there's lots of free parking.

I love Brug! This location is on the street level, Mauka side, same area as Marshall's. I think this location is really small, and has its fair share of crazies popping in and out (due to location), but I will always stop by to pick something up here. I love their pastries and always grab extra for breakfast the next day. If I had to choose I like the Brug location upstairs at the Lanai Foodcourt by Macys!

I recently participated in the Brug Bakery anniversary special. All pastry, rolls and single croissant were $2. It was well organized and gave me the perfect opportunity to try things I wouldn't normally buy. It was really difficult for them to move the line quickly because it's an incredibly small space and such a huge turnout. It was a hour wait and when I finally got in none of my favorites were available. However they did have about 10 choices available, they were rotating inventory so not everyone had the same options throughout the day. It was nice to try and takes place every July. See you next year!

We visited this bakery while stopping by to get some musibis. We couldn't help but take a look at all they had to offer because they had a bread that looked like a pig, so that caught our eye. We got a couple of items listed as favorites, and they didn't last! We were planning to eat them once we got back home, but we ended up eating them during our car ride home. Must try: sausage roll (?) I forgot the name!

Some of the pastries are so cute. Staff are very friendly and great service. I got some for a friend and came back after lunch to get some for hubby.

Brug Bakery is a small Japanese bakery, with a few locations in Hokkaido, and I thought it was cool that they had some locations in HI! This particular store is at the Ala Moana Center - I can see why this place is pretty popular and why their selections run out quickly! Their offerings include sweet and savory pastries, sandwiches, and loaves. As other Asian bakeries, you pick up a basket and start choosing; we picked up: +the Croquette Pan - bread with a vegetable croquette, tonkatsu sauce, and parsley +a Beef Curry Pan - filled with a homemade Japanese curry +a Bear pan +a shrimp alfredo pan - this was my favorite, as it was topped with tons of shrimp, and the cheesy/creamy sauce topping was yummy Staff are efficient and keeps the line moving; note that this place is super small. Plenty of parking at the Ala Moana Center. +tasty savory pastries +located at the Ala Moana Center

Haven't been to Brug Ala Moana ( on the ground floor) in awhile. I purchased bread, a chocolate croissant and an anpan. The bread...many bake styles available, always good, soft and tasty and always fresh. I also love the chocolate croissant and the anpan. Quality is always on point. But, today, I tried the baby seal bun with lilikoi cream filling. So good, the cream is not too sweet and goes well with the soft bun. The service was fast, thankfully, since the shop is small and so crowded. A bit hard to move around. You need to walk slowly and gaze at the wonderful pastries. Soooo worth it, tho.

This review is specifically for customer service. We visited the recently and were very disappointed with the customer service provided. My partner and I were waiting to pay for four items, and there were four employees standing around one register while another employee was ringing someone up at the other register. One employee made eye contact with me, then glanced at her coworker as if she didn't want to help us. The other employee finally greeted us and began ringing us up. I wouldn't have minded purchasing a bag, but it wasn't even offered -- despite the fact that we were clearly juggling several items in our hands. Instead, I had to awkwardly untie a bag from another restaurant to store our purchases while the employees just stood by watching. There was no "thank you" or "have a good day" at the end of the transaction, only a lack of initiative and interest in providing basic customer service. We enjoy the items from Brug but unfortunately, this experience left us feeling unwelcome and unappreciated as customers.

Snacking in Honolulu, Hawaii... There are two BRUG Bakeries at Ala Moana Center... One is on the Mall Level at the Lanai Food Court, and this one, which is on the Ground Level on the Mauka side of the Mall - near Marshalls. It was mid-afternoon when I felt like I was starving. I didn't have much breakfast and hadn't had lunch. Surfers Bakery was closed. I was so happy to see BRUG Bakery. I have been to other locations, so I knew about the good quality. This particular location is cozy, and quantity was limited since it was later in the day. They already were sold out of the cute Piggy Buns (with cha siu), which are one of the specials for the month. I got a Pastrami Cheese Focaccia, a Pesto Focaccia, and a Kitaguni Focaccia. They were all savory-delicious in their own way. Yum! Another thing that I like about BRUG Bakery is their Loyalty Program. Just enter your phone number into the system. The app can show you your reward status!

Yakisoba pan sandwich like in the movie Midnight Diner? I need this

Aloha! We currently don’t have Yakisoba Pan. We used to have it back in the Shirokiya days. It’s a bread that we might bring as a special but not as a regular item. If you would like to special order them I can try to ask the head chef if she can… Read more

I love pigs in a blanket, however that’s not a product we have in any of our shops. We have 3 kinds of hot dog style two arabiki sausage (regular and spicy) (japanese crunchy sausage with Japanese dough) and Salz frank with European dough. We can… Read more

Even at that late hour, the shop was completely full of people! There were families with children, teenagers hanging out with friends, and everyone seemed so happy. It had such a warm, welcoming, and joyful atmosphere. The staff members were incredibly friendly. When they realized I was Daniel and Victoria's mom, they had such kind things to say about my children, which truly touched my heart. What makes this place even more special is that they have games! Daniel is currently enjoying playing Super Smash Bros. with other kids, and seeing him happily interacting with others makes me so grateful. Of course, the desserts were amazing too! The Taiwanese ice cream crepe was so delicious, and the peanut powder topping was especially unforgettable. The flavors and textures were absolutely perfect. This is not just a dessert shop--it's a place that makes you smile just by being there. I can honestly say I will probably end up coming here once a week because it is that addictive! I have been to several Malasada places in Hawaii but | love…read morethere's the best for the following reasons: 1. the size of the malasadas: some restaurants tend to make their Malasadas smaller and when places do this it ruins the overall texture and quality of it. The bigger the malasadas size the more airy and fluffy and more bread layers that will be inside. 2. their malasadas always taste fresh and the same quality each time. 3. their malasadas don't feel oily or heavy at all Overall I would highly recommend this place for their Malasadas! I'm so happy to have found them. I can back multiple times on my trip. They also have other desserts too that I have yet to try. They have ice cream, cakes, and other desserts Also tip: if you are ordering a malasada also order a coffee or a matcha drink to go with it. The cinnamon sugar from the malasada just matches so perfectly with a drink this restaurant is also a nice place for walking! There's lot of stores and restaurants to walk around! I'm trying to remember but I think there was a book off that was not too far from here! If you either drive or maybe walk. Service: staff was super helpful and friendly while I was there. I was having an issue with my online order because my phone was being glitchy and they were so nice in helping :) Also wanted to note their branding is so cute!! They even sell merch items too

However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. FOOD - 4 stars... the malasadas were good, but that ube dessert was next level AMBIANCE - 4 stars...really a takeout operation with a lot of temptations SERVICE - 4 stars...very calm and orderly TOTAL - 4 stars...yet another spot for sweet Hawaiian decadence RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? On the way back to the car we saw it again and decided to try the Strawberry Bingsu. Our party shared the bowl and loved it so much we decided to also try the Mango Bingsu. Standard generous portion for a bingsu location, notably generous for an Ala Moana location. The location itself was free of insects despite being on a ground floor location with sugary desserts everywhere. Meh: The $14 (including 15% tip) dessert tasted too light and ice-like and appeared more translucent (rather than opaque white) than expected, leading me to think the milk was watered down, which may be how the establishment can make up the cost for the portion size while maintaining a spot in Ala Moana, especially given milk prices in Hawai'i, even if you're buying from Costco or direct from farmers. Also, tables were not cleaned after each party departed; that transparent puddle on your table might not be condensation and may instead be drool drops from the toddler who sat there before you. Overall: Good (not outstanding) experience. Knocked off 2 stars for combination of suspected diluted milk + unclean tables.

They have an interesting selection of Japanese flavored gelato including miso, black sesame, Kinako, azuki and green tea of course. There was a Yuzu ginger gelato which is more of a sorbet too. You can get traditional accompaniments like shiratama (mochi) and azuki (beans) . I only wish they had more non dairy options for us lactose intolerants. My friend got a Matcha latte which she really liked. Another friend got Kinako gelato with mochi topped with chocolate sauce that paired perfectly! I would take Lactaid to eat this! Teas: -Kabusecha kara which had a bitter umami profile . It started out nice and mellow and turned bitter at the end. Love how they give you the percentage of caffeine. -The Kansaku was a nice mild tea that our server Nana explained must be served at a lower temperature to allow the hand rolled leaves to steep properly . So if you like piping hot tea, don't choose this. -They also have traditional whisked matcha if you want an extra boost of caffeine and antioxidants! Potent! Everything is beautifully served in hand crafted ceramic dishes and presented on wooden boards with a simple flower. You feel like you're in a cozy cafe in Japan. They are open till 10:00 on weekdays and till midnight on weekends Thursday - Saturday . Love that you can find a late night place to drink good quality tea, but they can add alcohol if you want too!
