Focus, Focus, Focus: I'm going to keep this short because I want to point out and highlight the "Non-Dairy" "Dairy-Free" Ube Vanilla Soft Serve. Soft Serve Swirl: I got the 'Swirl' but you can get Ube or Vanilla flavors alone. It was awesome!! Guilt-free !! Perhaps not as creamy as a high butterfat ice cream, it was creamy enough and I'm going with 5 Stars. Summer: It was officially 90 degrees in Kaimuki but it felt like 100. A hot summer this year. I got a large-sized cup because I knew the ice cream would melt quickly. But you can get it in a cone also. Surprisingly it did not melt as fast as I feared. Ube Scones: Bought these too. This is a cute shop right on 10th Ave. parking can be tricky but I like to park in the lot where 12th Ave grill is and run in to those shops since there's a 15 min grace period. I followed them on Instagram before when they opened and tried a few things. I would normally try to get there on Saturday when they sell focaccia bread. Eventually, I've forgotten about them when I started working 10 hour shifts and could no longer go. Ive gone back recently since I saw they had cute desserts so I went to try the cotton candy cake. I actually had to go back twice cause she forgot the cotton candy topper but she was nice about it and offered me a new one the next day. They're approximately 5.50 each and they're tiny but cute. Taste wise was ok but nothing spectacular. I asked about their breads and it's by special request or order now. If anything I'll just be back for those. read more

Oh my gosh what a cute bakery! Came in today and had never stopped in before, to get a lobster roll with my friend! Super yummy on a taro roll! Went when they first opened at 10 AM to find their display case filled with yummy goodies. Bread pudding, scones, butter mochi, etc. Unfortunately there wasnt any of the yummy goodies I read about on Yelp or seen on their Instagram. Highly disappointed!! Got their ube scones. Ate it later in the day after a 10 second warm-up in my microwave. Its okay. Very doughy and bread-like with very little ube flavor. Not sure how much ube was incorporated but it is very purple. Finally made my way here after countless seeing instagram posts of the treats. Ube hype is real, with tons of places offering Ube items popping up in the past year or so, and this is one of the places that does it right! The place was empty at around 11 on Sunday, and the girl behind the counter was super nice and helpful, great customer service! I had the Ube/Vanilla Soft Serve with Ube Panna Cotta, Ube Butter Mochi, and Ube Creme Brulee. Ube Butter mochi: Soft, chewy, great flavor and a nice butter-y-ness to it, and was just overall great! Ube/Vanilla Soft Serve with Panna Cotta: You can get this just on its own, or on top of the cup of Panna Cotta. It's the thing that's probably instagrammed the most. The soft serve is nice and smooth, no icyness, with a perfect amount of sweetness, and not overdone on either Ube flavor or sugar. The panna cotta on the bottom was light, tasty, and refreshing. This is probably in my Top 3 of "Hot day desserts". Worth all the instagram hype it gets! Ube Creme Brulee: I am an absolute creme brulee fiend. Love the stuff, cant get enough of it. If I go to a buffet line that has it, I will literally have no less than 3-4 of them in one night. Every bakery I go to that has it, I get it. That being said, Im pretty picky about my Creme Brulees being good. This one was good, damn good. Just like the ube panna cotta, it was light, not too heavy, very creamy and the perfect amount of ube flavor. Kaimuki has so many new little shops everywhere, there are stores you would never expect if you don't walk around. This shop is off the main road, so I didnt even know this store existed before. It's a little store with a display of pastries and a soft serve ice cream machine in the back. I was in a rush so I didn't see what it all had to offer, but looking at the menu I wanted to try the soft serve. You can get ube and vanilla soft serve, swirled together or separate. I got it swirled because why not try both? About $4.99 for the small. I saw on the reviews that this soft serve is dairy free (both flavors), so I had to try it. Surprisingly it wasn't that sweet and smooth. The vanilla soft serve has a hint of coconut, so you can tell the base is made of coconut milk I think. The ube has a mild sweetness. If I am in the area and craving for soft serve, will go again. read more

This is my favorite bakery hands down. I always try to get the ube scones and ube butter mochi when I go, but love trying the flavor of the month that they have when it is in stock. This month is Melona butter mochi and it tastes just like the ice cream! This time I also got the ube banana bread with chocolate chips with a side of their non dairy soft serve. (The soft serve is a must have when coming here because summer is coming and it's very refreshing) FYI: I found out everything she sells can be ala mode with the soft serve (vanilla, ube or the swirl)! C&V is a cute little bake shop who in addition to cupcakes sells macarons, brownies and BREAD PUDDING. I would suggest you get there in the morning as they have a limited inventory. Today's flavors for macarons were pistachio, coffee and quava.. I could not wait for my dinner dessert to try these little discs of sweetness. And it was delicious. I stopped into this cute little bakery after hearing that they had just opened for a little over a month to pick up some treats for a friend who I know would really appreciate some goodies to brighten up their day. Upon entering there was a small display case with some nicely decorated cupcakes and above those yummy looking cupcakes were some macaroons that were calling out my name! Shhhhh! I was drawn by their Instagram account (chocolateandvanilla808) to take advantage of a 10% off special. Am I glad I did, because I believe I have found the best macarons in Hawaii! Maybe in all the states west of the Rockies! Seriously, they are that good! The macarons are crisp but chewy and it's because they make them fresh each day! Follow their Instagram account to see what flavors they have available because it varies daily. Because there was 10% I had to try a little bit of everything. I got macarons, cupcake, and a brownie. I wasn't thrilled with the brownie, it was dry despite looking more fudgy. I'll skip the brownie next time. But the cupcake was good. The cake wasn't dry and the frosting, while heavy, wasn't overly sweet. So it was a good balance for the cupcake. And like I said earlier, the macarons are one of the best I've had. I should have gotten the panna cotta, but there will be a next time! Like the rest of Kaimukī, parking is on the street or the various lots. Might as well make it a eating crawl. This new bakery has the cutest storefront and is located next to Sconee's on 12th Ave. With Kokohead Cafe, Via Gelato, and Otto Cake as neighbors, this is seriously the place to be. Today, they offered blueberry macarons and French toast macarons. Also on the menu were vanilla cupcakes with vanilla bean buttercream, red velvet cupcakes, and a cream cheese filled red velvet cupcake. They also had bread pudding, panna cotta, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and brownie ends for sale. Since I've never had a French toast macaron, I picked one of those up along with cupcakes and bread pudding to share. So I think there are two main types of frosting lovers. There are those that prefer the light and whipped butter cream frostings and there are those that like dense, cream cheese frostings. I fall into the latter category. Although, I liked the fluffy texture of the cupcakes, I will always prefer dense cream cheese frosting over buttercream. For the macaron lovers out there, you are in a for a treat. The French toast macaron was perfection. I could have easily polished off half a dozen while writing this review. The shell was just delicious and the cookie's texture beneath the shell was the best combination of soft and chewy. They are open Tuesday through Saturday 10am-6pm and on Sundays 10am-2pm. They feature specialty Brownies, a weekly rotation for Bread Pudding, Panna Cotta, and Custard, and daily selections of Cupcakes and Macaroons. This tiny bakery is bright and cheerful, and baked goods are reasonably priced. I tried the Chocolate Haupia Macaroon. It had that perfect macaroon texture of lightly crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The cookie is sweet, but the dark chocolate and haupia fillings aren't very sweet so they helped balance the cookie while adding great flavor. At $1.83 a macaroon, you could easily pick up a few to share. Check them out the next time you're in Kaimuki looking for a sweet treat. read more

The menu advertised other desserts but I didn't see it in the display case. The cookies and cream macaron was delicious! The size was a good size however not all the macarons we ordered were the same size. We also ordered the fudge brownie and red velvet brownie. Both brownies were heavenly. Price: The price for the desserts are average compared to other bakeries. Macarons were $1.75. The brownies were less than $3. Overall, I'm glad we stopped by here to try their macarons and brownies. Don't waste your time or money! The mochi is super tiny and not tasty at all! I was so disappointed! I got some strawberry mochi that was kind of hard already not even fresh and it was like noon when I went there! This place is not it! You guys can find better mochi at a convenient store! Yuck! Located in Kaimuki parking is usually paid, however the parking lot located behind the shop for $0.25 for 20 minutes. I loved how there was a variety of dishes that could fit any craving to may have. Found this bakery on yelp one day while I was in the Kaimuki area. I was instantly lured in by their assortment of ube treats. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the owner (I think?) who was very friendly. Although the storefront is small (it would probably only fit about 5-6 people inside), they still manage to have a variety of bakery items. I ended up getting 2 of the tarts (1 cotton candy and 1 ube), ube butter mochi, and a coffee jelly with soy. All the goodies were so delicious and I can't wait to go back to try more of their other items. I already have my eye on the ube scone for my next visit... Parking is probably the biggest hassle here. There are 2 parking lots on either side of 12th ave but both lots require you to pay to park. Supposedly the metered parking lot (the one on the same side as the bakery) is cheaper than the other lot across the street. Tried blueberry and chocolate chip bread pudding with vanilla cream . Lots of blueberries and choc chip but seemed like it was missing something. Also ordered scones, almond melting moments and use vanilla soft serve and even doggie treats. Expected a better experience. A little disappointed, baked goods looked better than it actually tasted. I came here because all the Instagram post made it look really good. Walked in on Thursday about 2pm it was empty with a nice gentleman behind the counter. I got me two ube scones and a large ube soft serve. I was disappointed because I when I look at the cup I could see a gap in my cup and it was barely filled to the top. Word of advice (any post on Instagram isn't what it seems) I seen pictures of it fully filled and with that signature top. So for two scones and a "large" soft serve ran me almost 15 dollars , which left me regretting my spending decision. The ube scones were good and the soft serve was ok. If I'm in the area I'll grab some scones but I wouldn't mark this location as a must go to. read more

They didn't have butter mochi yet so I got their banana ube bread instead. It was so moist and delicious. When we were there, they had several candles going that day and it was a very strong (sandalwood) scent that bothered our allergies and masked any baked good scents. I've been seeing their puffs all over IG and finally got to stop by and pick some up but I was sorely disappointed....I assumed since it's featured a lot on IG, it would be good so I bought one container each of the salted caramel and fruity pebble puffs. Each container had 4 puffs each but I should've bought just one and tried it first. The puff pastry itself had an oily flavor and the cream didn't have much taste to it. The filling could've more sugar or possibly be mixed with fruit purée. The presentation of the puff itself is nice but the taste did not match. Also, the pics on IG made it look like they were the size of snow puffies but were almost as tiny as those mini pop tarts 100 calorie snacks. Each container had 4 puffs in them for about $5. I stopped by a little late so I didn't see any macaroons on display which I assume sold out but their bread pudding and brownies looked quite good which probably been a better choice. If I do stop by again, I would probably give their other desserts a try. Not sure if I got a bad batch but I would recommend not getting the puffs and trying the other selections. read more

I can't believe I haven't posted a review on this place yet. Well, here it is: I always end up leaving Chocolate + Vanilla Bakery with way more goodies than I anticipated, but I'm not complaining. Hehe. Jill is always working to create new, exciting, and delicious treats. I'm talking flavored scones, melting moments, creme brûlée, bread pudding, and more. C+V's flavors are incredible. (Can't list them all. You just gotta go down or instastalk. But, I always love trying C+V's new ube and green tea creations.) They've even got seasonal delights like pumpkin bread pudding. Insert drooling face emoji. Also, you can make special requests and orders ahead of time. Like, a pan of pumpkin bread pudding for Thanksgiving. That's really the way to do it. And, if there's something you really want/need, I'd special order it just to make sure it doesn't sell out. Chocolate + Vanilla Bakery is definitely a must for anyone with a sweet tooth. I've been following them on Instagram but never knew exactly where they were located. One day while on my way to another store, I passed the bakery by chance. They had a variety of flavors of bread pudding, scones, and butter mochi. They also had coffee jelly, panna cotta, and soft serve. I was most interested in trying the different flavored butter mochi- ube, red velvet, and cotton candy. I was surprised to be paying $7.99 for 4 mediocre sized pieces but figured I would try it at least once. The ube had a mild flavor- hard to really taste the ube and tasted more like purple plain mochi. The cotton candy tasted like a hint of bubble gum- my friends who tried it were not impressed. I didn't personally eat the red velvet mochi but those who tried it said it was good but not something they'd pay $8 for again. I don't see myself paying that price for mochi again. We were given samples of the soft serve and ended up buying a small ube and a small ube/vanilla twist. Both were good and refreshing on a hot day. $5 for a small cup is kind of on the high end but it was good and I'd probably order it again. I understand that small local businesses have to charge a little more to make ends meet and I'm all for supporting local, as long as the product is good quality. This bakery definitely has some creative items that I'd like to go back to try like the scones, bread pudding, and panna cotta. I'll be back to try those, but will probably not buy the mochi again. There is limited street parking so you'll likely end up parking in a metered lot so make sure you have quarters. read more

I came here because I heard they were doing a $0.99 soft serve for national ice cream day. I never heard of this bakery before and learned they've been open for 4 years. I've been missing out on this gem for 4 years! The soft serve was amazing and the Oreo crumb topping complimented it so much. I wish I got extra Oreo crumbs! When I go to Otto Cake in Kaimuki, I always pass this shop but didn't get a chance to stop in until recently. Right before Mother's Day, I noticed C+V had posted a photo of their chocolate chip bread pudding on Instagram. I called to make sure it was still available on that Saturday, placed an order for one and made my way down to Kaimuki by lunch time. Note: Parking in the lot for Smiley Nails (close to Koko Head Café, etc.) is a madhouse on Saturdays. If I had known this, I wouldn't have gone at that crazy late brunch/early lunch hour. Anyway - once I finally found a parking, I made my way to Chocolate + Vanilla and was thrilled that I was the only customer at the time. It was tempting to order more sweets to go, as the bakery case was filled with cupcakes, brownies, cookies and more. But, I stuck to my guns ... well, almost. Once the lady at the register said that there were only a few more orders of the bread pudding available, I caved and got two instead of one. This was, after all, supposed to be one of the bakery's most popular flavors. My trek to Kaimuki specifically for the bread pudding was worth it. Mom loved it and so did my aunt. I can't wait to try some of their other delicious sweets. Here's what I ordered: "Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding": C+V makes different bread pudding flavors, but they're not available all the time. This one, in particular, sounded really good and it definitely didn't disappoint. The bread pudding was chockfull of chocolate chips and came covered in a vanilla anglaise sauce. I had the option of adding strawberry sauce on top as well; I did so for one of my orders and got the other one with just vanilla. My auntie really enjoyed the strawberry sauce atop the bread pudding, but I actually preferred mine more plain (just the vanilla sauce). But we both agreed that the bread pudding was moist, chewy and spongy, definitely not dry or crumbly. I loved the texture and crunch provided by the chocolate chips, and the vanilla anglaise was creamy and sweet. I would definitely order this flavor again if it's ever available. "Red Velvet Brownie": I really like the red velvet cream cheese brownies from Otto Cake, so it would be difficult not to compare them to the ones from C+V. I was staring at these in the bakery case and vowed to get one next time, since I already unexpectedly doubled my bread pudding order on this trip. "Caramel Mac Nut Brownies": If I didn't order the red velvet flavor, this is the other brownie flavor I would want to try. It features a great medley of textures and flavors, and the layer of caramel looked generously rich. I anticipate trying this sweet treat one day. read more
