Nice little place, just around the corner from the 770. I bought some coffee beans to take home, plus a couple of kipahs. Nice atmosphere, great staff. They helped me pick the right roast for my tastes (I am particular when it comes to my coffee!) My only regret is that I didn't have more time to sit and enjoy a cup of their coffee. Next time! There's lots of coffee roasters in NY (duh!). If you haven't tried Chocolatte yet, it's worth the trip to Crown Heights. read more

I found this place through a quick search looking for good hot chocolate spot. The hot chocolate was fine. The coffee was fine too. We really enjoyed the baked goods especially the donuts. The service behind the counter was lovely. Very welcoming. But to be honest we probably would have gone somewhere else if we had seen the back area first. The seating area was absolutely filthy. Someone needs to periodically check to ensure that it is a space where people can enjoy their purchases. read more

I wish I read reviews of this place before walking in... I was working in the area and was craving a bagel and cream cheese. It was about 10am when I walked in with my coworker. I ordered a bagel and cream cheese and some type of pastry with mushroom filling. I had high expectations of Chocolatte and the shop was adorable. I waited and waited... waited some more after paying. The guy behind the counter tells me they ran out of bagels. It's 10am and I've been waiting for 15 mins for you to toast a bagel and spread cream cheese on it. He asks if he could substitute it with the house baguette. I said sure! At this point I'm starving and angry. The guy taking my order should've known if they ran out of ingredients. Actually the shop is tiny, every staff should've known. Baguette with cream cheese: Poorly made and where's the cream cheese??? That is not a schmear. I gave half to my coworker and I'm not sure what she did with it. Mushroom pastry: Pastry was flaky, but the mushroom filling was super salty. The pastry was cold too. I wish I walked a bit further down the block because other bakeries were filled with customers and bagels lined the windows. read more

Meh. Overpriced and my mango smoothie is like a pound of barely chopped up bananas with one slice of mango in it. Like a crappy banana cream pie eaten thru a straw and a piece of mango accidentally got into the pie dish...minus the whipped cream. B/C whipped cream may not be kosher. The customer service is great. You will always find a friendly barista at Chocolatte. The food is amazing. The coffee is the best in Crown Heights. But if you order food make sure to tell them you want salt and pepper (if you want it) because on certain things they don't add it because some people don't want it. The great thing about this place is you can custom order things the way you like them. This is an accessible, pleasant coffee shop located inside the Jewish Children's Museum (and in the heart of the Jewish community of Crown Heights). The space is bright and airy, decorated with Illy products and clocks showing the time in various cities around the world (Jerusalem, Milan, Paris, Rio...), a flatscreen showing nothing but nature scenes, and Hebrew pop music playing over the soundsystem. They have every coffee drink anyone could ever want, and I appreciated the fresh mint they added to my tea. I have yet to try the more substantial food options (sandwiches, salads, etc.), but I can report that they have plenty of decent snacks available (pastries, Kind Bars, Naked Juices, and more). $3.75 is bit steep for a plain croissant, but perhaps kosher croissants cost more. I don't really know. Chocolatte also boasts free wi-fi, but there is limited (but comfortable) seating and the counter is a bit higher than ideal for laptopping. Although, I can't blame them if it's purposeful, and they don't want the likes of me sitting there all day long. read more

This review is just for the employees and the coffee. I visited a couple of times while visiting family nearby. It is conveniently located off of Eastern Parkway which is perfect for morning/afternoon walks. The staff was nice and patient when we were looking at the menu. Their iced coffee was good and did the job. Coffee service was quick and efficient. Their baked goods case looked incredible and their chocolate selection is very unique. I unfortunately didn't get to indulge on that front, though. I'd definitely come back when I'm back in the area. read more

Where do I even start? First off, I tried to call the store to make an order. However, the guy on the phone, for whatever apparent reason, did not want to take my order, told me to order online, and then hung up on me. I went on their website, but it was glitchy on my phone, so I ended up walking to the store. When I got there, there were people in the store giving me rude stares and talking about me.. Why, because I was not Jewish and I had red hair and tattoos? A great way to feel welcome. Great customer service. So I gave my order, and waited awkwardly in the store. I took my order and left. When I had gotten home, I looked at the order, and they had given me rotten avocados and old olives. They had also given me two eggs, instead of the three that was specified online, and those two eggs were not even cooked properly. If you are not Jewish, don't even bother coming to the store because they will give you horrible customer service and give you the left overs that they wouldn't give to somebody that was Jewish. If I could give this place a negative star I would. Where to begin? While banking on the appeal of adorable overpriced printed cups is a noteworthy tactic to apply in image-obsessed, millenial Brooklyn, it is no excuse for selling poorly-made, overpriced food and then outright lying about it on your menu. If you order from them on GRuB Hub, here is what you can expect: Item: Cream cheese and smoked salmon sandwich. NOwhere on the menu do they mention this sandwich gets HOT-PRESSED. Because that is nonsensical. Cooked smoked salmon? Wilted lettuce? Warm cream cheese? Soggy tomato? Mmmmm! Sounds delicious! If they were forthcoming about that detail on their menu, perhaps more people could avoid such blatant faux pas instead of receiving an inedible sandwich. So, let's say you want to try something less complicated? Surely, not even a half-rate coffee bar could possibly ruin simple bread, butter and jam? Wrong again. Their "B+B" bread with butter and jam, naturally, arrives sans jam (because we don't serve what we advertise) and the bread is, again, hot pressed and soaked in old, melted butter that smells like bad cheese. Ok, ok. This place is clearly not known for getting things right and maybe it is just me? So picky about the hot press. But no preparation is involved in a pre-made muffin order, right? I am sure they have tasty chocolate chip muffins. Maybe they were sold out that morning? Nice to not let the customer know in advance (like most places, standard practice) so they could substitute a different item or nix it from the order. But nah, they decide to go ahead and waste a perfectly good double-chocolate muffin on the assumption that it is the same thing. Um, no. And all these errors are your fault for ordering because the store will refuse even a partial refund. Don't order from here with the expectation you will get what is advertised. Be ready to throw your money in the waste basket. They will not even own up to their error and offer partial refund. Sorry, but I am not a Brooklyn trust fund baby, I don't have thirty bucks to waste on poor business practices. The coffee, however, was fine. Stick to that. read more

The two stars are for service. The guys who work here are generally friendly and pleasant to deal with and they keep the lines moving. The lack of stars is for the food. I work locally and have tried a number of things here out of convenience and there's not one thing I would go back for. Most, I didn't even finish. The sandwich combinations are bland. I love the idea of picking your sandwich and having it grilled, but the resulting sandwich tastes a lot more like it's been microwaved than grilled/toasted. It gets that hard texture that things get when they've been microwaved too long, and that soggy feel. Not good. I'm not into coffee, but I've tried the hot chocolate, the limonana, and the berry smoothie - none of which hit the spot. I chose to visit Chocolatte on Thanksgiving morning prior to making a long train trip to far western New Jersey. It has a very convenient location next to the Kingston Avenue subway station. I was fascinated by the vibrancy of the bustling Jewish community as opposed to my homogeneous South Florida suburban neighborhood. I found the staff to be quite friendly and I didn't feel any discrimination because I'm not Jewish. We just had coffee and it was quite good. I liked being able to order an espresso shot to add to it. I thought the seating inside was too cramped so we opted for a sidewalk table. Although it was cold out (by my Miami standards) the entertaining "street theater" more than made up for it. I'll be trying this place again on my next visit. read more

I don't know what could have saved the limp, dispiriting breakfast sandwich, but it definitely wasn't a lukewarm coffee as murky and appealing as bong water. This place gave me so much love and patience while I was living in Brownsville. The food is actually really good and all kosher but most of all the coffee is just incredible and the location is perfect. The staff are some of the nicest people I've ever met and are so understanding with customers (I would go in and buy one large iced mocha with two extra shots of espresso and then work on my laptop for a bit.) There is internet and it is open 24hrs. Sometimes it can get super packed up but even then it's worth the line and they get through heavy rushes pretty fast honestly. Plus it gets packed for a reason, it's the best. I can't have dairy anymore but they actually have a load of dairy free options for drinks and food and overall it's just a very thoughtful place. If you want to try some of the best coffees/teas/chai lattes in all of New York, head over to their crown heights or Coney Island locations and you will NOT be disappointed. Their sachlav is pretty magical, although I wish it had nuts sprinkled on top. Do you like it when things taste like flowers? Roses and orange blossom lace this thick milky pudding. This is a awesome little coffee place that you go to, when you're in the mood of grabbing a coffee and pastry or sit down for a quick breakfast with friend, family etc. I was there one morning with my family and although there is not much seating, including the seating by the front window and the seating in the back by the museum, we still managed to get ourselves seated and had a real nice time. The place has a nice décor and the staff is as helpful and friendly as it gets. The food and drinks (Breakfast/Brunch style) are absolutely delicious (Although not the cheapest) and there is free Wi-Fi!
