My girlfriend was craving some Korean soup on a particularly chilly night and quick research led us to Choi Ga. You order at the counter and then you're given a number. Once your order is ready your number is called and you pick up your tray of food. There is signage in the restaurant indicating that they are self-serve and that you shouldn't tip. My girlfriend and I ordered beef soup and a seafood pancake. The food was prepared fairly quickly and they called our number to pick up the food from the counter. The seafood pancake was pretty good. Very flavorful but I felt like it was thicker and more doughy than I prefer. I would probably skip this for the next visit. The beef soup was delicious as well. It was just the right temperature and it was salty and savory enough without being overwhelming. We went on a particularly cold day so the hot soup really hit the spot. The pieces of beef in the soup were super tender too. Continuing the self-service theme there was a water dispenser and there was even a dispenser of broth at the pick up counter. I liked that broth even more than the broth in the beef soup. I slurped up several cups of it. I'd certainly come back. read more

There's a lot of delicious Korean food in north New Jersey and this spot is a local favorite. Friends in the area recommended Choi Ga for takeout as they routinely order from here. Formerly known as Sambong as recently as 8-9 months ago when they first opened, menu-wise they've stayed fairly consistent, specializing in naengmyun (cold noodles in a chilled broth), with some stews and bbq grilled items too. On a cold winter Sunday afternoon we placed our orders around 12:40 and it was ready for pick up at 1:15pm. We ordered: - 물냉면 + 목살구이 Mul Naengmyun Cold Noodle + Pork Neck BBQ $24.99: the thin noodles are super bouncy and chewy, excellent take on a summer classic! Soup and toppings hit the spot, a couple slices of beef and Asian pear, thinly slice cucumbers and pickled radish, plus half an egg. The extra side of bbq pork cheek was marinated and grilled to tender perfection. - 소고기 국밥 Spicy Guk Bap $17.99: lightly spicy beef broth with bean sprouts, scallions, and pieces of beef, served over rice. Warm and hearty Korean comfort food on a cold day. - 사골우거지된창국 Sagol Ugeoji Doenjang Guk with Rice $18.99: this beef bone broth is seasoned with fermented bean paste, a flavor somewhat similar to miso with plenty of rehydrated dried napa cabbage. A rich flavor and great over the white rice that came with it. - 돈까스 Donkatsu $19.99 and LA갈비 LA Galbi BBQ $36.99: my friends ordered these items to share with their kids. I didn't try them though they appeared to enjoy. - banchan (side dishes): about 5 or 6 small containers came with the entrees, consisting of regular napa kimchi, a couple different radish kimchis, fish cakes. Terrible and way overpriced for what you get. Ordered delivery and they packed the spicy naengmyeon noodles with the broth, so the noodles absorbed all the broth and was a mushy mess. Bland in flavor too. The pork neck was awful. Very chewy and barely grilled. Cheonggukjang was even worse. Small portion, no flavor to the stew, and completely not what the food picture showed. Ended up throwing it out because it was inedible. What a complete waste of money, we felt like we were scammed. read more

The pork and naengmyeon combo is definitely the best here. Personally, I like the bibim naengmyeon more and think it tastes even better. The food always comes out quickly, and the owner is very kind and welcoming. I also like that they have warm broth available as a self service option. Every time I visit, the food is consistently delicious. Highly recommend!! read more

Been here a few times, it's simple and straight up. Order at the counter and pickup at the kitchen window. No service which might be different for a lot of diners but I like it. No checking in no bothering you. Yes what I'd say is very traditional Korean food, my two cents when most diners are Korean it's a good thing. I'd say come here in the colder months for some comforting hot soup with spice if needed. Great for sitting relaxing and enjoying a meal. The place is quiet as well. Been here twice. I attributed issues to it working out the kinks during its soft open. I don't think that's the case anymore. Meat is not cleaned properly. Lots of fat and gristle hanging off of it leading to unpleasant smells and flavors. Soup is also bland and lacking content. Bonchon side dishes are small. Place is like Hmart's food court. You order then pick up at the counter. Also the worst part for me is the smell. I can smell what seems like bathroom cleaning products. The bathroom is within eye shot of the eating area so i don't think it's out of question. If you've been in a men's bathroom you know that smell. Not good. read more

I really liked this place. The restaurant was clean and spacious and I liked how it was self serve and you get to pick your own seat. I got the spicy bibimnengmyun with LA galbi combo while my mom opted for the chungookjang. The bibimnengmyun wasn't too spicy and I thought the portion of the meat was perfect. Their complimentary bone broth was super hot and savory and I definitely went back for seconds. I didn't try the chungookjang but my mom said it tasted very authentic and she enjoyed it. Don't be put off by the no-frills, self service establishment. Just place your order and pay at the cashier, then pick up your food from the kitchen counter when ready. I stopped by this new restaurant that took over the old Spring Restaurant. I've been to their other location in Palisades Park. One great thing about this restaurant is no tip, its self serve! Their main dishes are cold noodles but they had hot dishes that are suitable for this cold weather. I know I'll come back for sure. I love their cold noodle soup, Naengmyun! It was truly one of the best one I've ever had. I keep going back to this restaurant with my friends who also love their Galbitang and Naengmyun. To be honest, I don't understand any negative reviews about this restaurant. I heard that they even make the noodles from scratch with the flour directly imported from Korea. read more

Cold Naeng myun was one of the worst I eaten. Bibim naeng myun was too sweet and lacked flavor. Chung gook jang was above average. Very different taste than the one in Pal Park NJ. read more
