Update: It's still a five star for me. It's my third time here but this was my second time dining in and oh man, this place is still so special. I love the Korean grandma that is there, her energy is great, she is so friendly and kind. Nom Nom Nom. It helps if you are Korean or if you go with someone who can speak and/or read it. The clientele is predominantly Korean and the restaurant itself is so freaking tiny. I am giving it 5 stars on a dish that wasn't even their most popular, their go to dish is a chicken stew. So if I was so blown away by their second best dish, I am very curious to find out how their best dish is. The menu is written all in Korean but there are pictures. Their banchan is pretty basic since they only give you two items. The Kimchi has really good flavor but it has a pretty aggressive kick like how it is in Korea. The radish kimchi is very aggressive, I enjoyed the flavor but it was kung pow in my mouth. The food: Gamjatang- It is a very popular Korean dish and is basically a pork spine soup. The pork was insanely good, it basically melted in my mouth. The kimchi in the stew was excellent, the potato was not over cooked and the broth was exploding with flavor. It was spicy but it was a good kinda of burn. The order comes on a table side burner and is served in a huge pot. It was $30 for the dish but it was easily enough for four maybe five people. I think they might serve this as an individual dish as well, I am not sure. This restaurant has very little seating and most people do take out orders. If you have a group of larger than four, I would recommend just ordering takeout. The gamjatang is so good here I think it's probably the best I've ever had in the states. You really can't go wrong with any of the dishes here. Stopped by for a quick lunch - definitely a no-frills, your neighborhood lady cooking up home-style soup type place. Don't expect atmosphere or best service - come for affordable, hearty, authentic home-style Korean soups! They have very limited menu - most are soups as the name suggests (Gukbap literally means soup-rice, as in, Koreans dunk rice into the soup and eat as a one-pot meal), with a few shareable dishes. Kimchi dwaeji(pork) stew (2/5, Main) I ordered this classic to see how good they are even though I can cook a mean one at home... and I was pretty disappointed. While it was seasoned, it clearly lacked that main layer of flavor. It's the Korean black magik taste of pungent garlic spicy, sweet, umami & savory flavor that's birthed when kimchi and pork goes to honeymoon on a hot sizzling pan. As a result, it just had high-note seasoning and elsewhere was just empty in the flavor spectrum. Even the quantity of pork was sadly outnumbered by overwhelming amount of ... kimchi. You're supposed to hit about a 60-40 ratio between cabbage and pork.. or at least 70-30. This was more like 95-5. Yangji sullungtang (Beef brisket ox bone soup) (5/5, Main) Wife ordered this and initially it's really bland. But that's because you're supposed to adjust the seasoning with the provided salt & pepper. She had to put copious shakes of salt to make it decent, but once there, the soup had great depth and hearty flavor - none of that fake powdery taste. Also, they're very generous with slices of beef brisket which was tasty. Definitely can be a one-pot meal for most ppl. Eat it with the kimchi and ggakdugi (radish kimchi)) provided for you. Wife took pity on me and donated slabs of brisket to bring up protein level of my meal. Definitely better value than the sullungtang from the other fancier joint down the Main St. whose name should remain mystery... Overall, I can see why this place would be popping for lunch takeout... and I may have just hit the wrong timing when the soup stock wasn't developed. I'll definitely come for sullungtang as that seems more ready around the clock with time for broth to really develop. Owners are warm and this spot definitely fills a void in Fort Lee Korean food scene, so very happy they're here - go check it out yourself. read more

I ordered the pork soup and rice (돼지국밥) and the quantity that they give is generous along with a side of kimchi (but usually it's not really fresh so it's meh.. but the soup makes up for it - trust). Just thinking about this place makes my mouth salivate. I am extremely picky when it comes to Soondae and Soondae Guk. I was driving back from my trip upstate and was going to make a pitstop at the supermarket and saw this restaurant on the search result. There was parking right in the front but beware, DO NOT USE THE PARKING METER. It literally ate all my quarters and my sister had to end up downloading the app to pay for parking. The restaurant is super small with only a few tables for the customers. Luckily, there was only us and another party of two. The restaurant doesn't have an extensive menu, which is a good thing. I ordered the Soondae Guk and they gave a massive amount of chives on the side to add into your soup. After not having Korean food for a few days, the soup rejuvenated my body soul, and I never felt more alive. They provided radish kimchi and regular kimchi as the side dishes and honestly, you won't need anything else. I ordered an extra soup to go but was a bit sad when they didn't give as much chives as they did during dine-in. I'd hid in my basement and slowly suck on the bones and dunk spoonful of rice to the spicy broth. I do this so my in laws do not judge me. the radish kimchee and cabbage kimchee are my kind of kimchee because they are not as fermented as the traditional kimchees.
