    squid with noodles

The squid was a little soft instead of chewy. The banchan was really good. Service is mainly by this korean auntie who is always refilling our banchan before we could ask. Very cozy and small space but very nice. I think the rice was a little mushy but everything was fresh. The pork bone soup was good too, flavorful but not too spicy

Decided to come back after craving some soup and went with the Galbi Tang. It's a large portion which was nice but I felt like the soup was a bit salty. I wished it was unflavored and was given the option to add your own salt as some Korean restaurants do. I'll still come back though for some authentic Korean dishes

The value-to-quality ratio just isn't there at Chon Ju Jip. To start with the positives: the sides were actually the highlight of the meal. They were well-seasoned and a nice variety. Service was standard. Nothing memorable but nothing to complain about either. Where things fell flat were the main dishes. The seafood pajun, which I was excited for, came out disappointingly soft instead of the crisp, golden edges you'd hope for. The noodles and rice cake were fine, but nothing particularly special, especially at this price point. And that's really the theme here: everything is okay, but it just feels overly expensive for what you get.

Stumbled upon this place and they do it right Raw marinated crab was huge and plenty for 2 people We also got soondoobu and it was solid too. Definitely can get busy later but we got lucky and sat down immediately Would love to come back and try some other dishes

I came hungry with a group of 4 and high expectations having recently visited Korea. We were lucky to get seated immediately when we arrived at 6:30 pm on a Friday night with no reservation. (I don't believe they take reservations). We got a large table that could seat 6, so that as much appreciated. The restaurant had an immediate authentic feel. The menu is large and diverse. We ordered: - Haemul-Pahjeon (seafood pancake) ($27.95) - Bosom (boiled sliced pork belly) ($39.95) - Budae-Jeongol (large kimchi ramen stew) ($44.95) They are also known for their raw marinated crab - believe they are currently the only raw marinated crab shop in town. Service was efficient but very to the point. The sides were solid, I liked the cold asparagus as I haven't seen this side dish usually. Kimchi was solid and on the fresh side which I liked. I enjoyed the free cold barley tea which they refilled fairly regularly. The seafood pancake and bosom were solid but not spectacular. Unfortunately, the Budae-Jeongol lacked the deep kimchi flavor I was accustomed to and I felt like the cabbage overpowered the kimchi. All in all, I was glad I got to check out the hot new Korean shop in town. Perhaps next time I will try the raw crab and a different kimchi soup to see if things are different.

Bossam - very decent portion size for sharing!

QUICK TAKE// No non-sense mom and pop shop. Very homely vibes with great bossam and soups. FOOD// We got the BOSSAM = very delicious and it even came with oysters which was a first for me (but probably is a classic authentic thing for the dish). We also got a BEEF TOFU STEW - super tasty. I would skip the RAMYUM - truly tasted like Shin Instant ramen. Really great assortment of BONCHONS and loved that they give you ICED BARLEY TEA automatically. SERVICE// Pretty good! It's a smaller place so it feels like the waiters can always keep an eye on every table pretty easily. Also was a fan of the GALBITANG. VIBES// Comfy vibes in an older smaller restaurant - you definitely come for the food. ETC.// Place does tend to have a line since there aren't many tables plus parking in Convoy just has been tough recently, so account for that when considering eating here.

I came around 11AM on a Tuesday morning and witnessed the place fill up for the lunch hour! In a party of 4, we were seated immediately and provided cold (barley?) tea in lieu of water. We ordered the raw marinated crab (which we were here for), bossam, fried mandu, and kongguksu. We were served plenty of banchan while waiting, which didn't end up being too long. The crab was definitely the star of the show. I was impressed with how large the serving was! Definitely getting your money's worth. I thought the bossam was standard, but I did like that it came with oysters. The fried dumplings and kongguksu were good too but nothing outstanding. Chon Ju Jip is definitely a local spot, where you'll hear more Korean spoken than probably any other Korean restaurant in Convoy. It's cozy, no frills, and reminds you that some of the yummiest food is where you least expect it.

This is a no nonsense sort of Korean place we we love it. There was quite a wait but that's due to the restaurant being small. We walked around convoy and returned in time to be called and were promptly seated. After a few minutes deciding, a server quickly came by, took our order, then went along her way. The service was respectful without being over eating or too involved. The food was fantastic and the portions sizes were what really won us over. Everything has that really fresh taste to it. Would come again.

Came here to get a quick lunch. It is convoy so parking is limited during the day. The inside is relatively cozy, but we were seated immediately. Service is fast. We ordered two soups and they were delicious. This place is definitely authentic. Would come again for dinner.

It's my first visit. When I stepped in, I felt like i was back in S. Korea. It's like a mom and pop shop with limited amount of tables. It got busy during lunch time. We ordered a big pot bone soup (#39) and a seafood pancake for four of us to share. It's plenty and we had some leftovers. The soup was not very spicy and flavorful. It's a bit too salty for my taste though. Nevertheless, It's great for a cold day.

    Christine M.

Small family style. Was recommended by a friend. We wanted the soup. It felt authentic with rich, flavorful, bold flavors. We ordered the scallion pancake and steamed potstickers. I enjoyed the barley tea too. The servers were attentive and running around I accommodate the busy restaurant. They were also kind to ensure the small kids didn't get too close to the burner. If you're looking for delicious, authentic, Korean this hit the spot. It did get crowded and we were lucky to be seated right away.

What a cozy korean food spot! I tried the bibimbap and soup combo as well as the tteokbokki. The bibimbap was delsih! Loved the amount of veggies and the meat was tender. Just wished there was a bit more meat. The soup was warm and not too salty. Did not know it was going to be seafood stew, but still yummy nonetheless. The tteobokki was the star it was sweet, spixy and the noodles were sooo yummy!

    FLY ZAPPER

DEAR MY KOREAN / CHINESE FRIENDS -- PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU GO. I grew up eating Korean and Chinese food my whole life, so I'm not hard to please. From the start, something felt off. There was almost no communication from the staff -- no greeting, no explanation, and barely any interaction during the meal. We decided to stay anyway, hoping the food would make up for it. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The meat was dry and overcooked, and the kimchi stew lacked flavor. But the biggest issue was what happened during our meal. There was several electric fly zappers installed directly above the dining area. While we were eating, a FLY was zapped above our table, and pieces fell down toward our food and onto my friend. It was shocking and honestly ruined the entire experience. This wasn't just about service or food anymore -- it raised serious concerns about hygiene. I would not come back.

I especially love the sight of the Coronado Bridge. Absolutely aesthetic! For my order, I had the Lobster Bisque and C Level Wagyu Burger. I had the lobster bisque at its sister restaurant Island Prime a long time ago and remember the lobster flavor being punchier. As for the burger, you can taste quality in the patty. However, the burger could have used more seasoning. The bacon was delicious--as were the included Parmesan fries which were perfect in texture. This restaurant encompasses beautiful views of the Downtown skyline. While I enjoyed my experience and the food was pretty decent, I was left wanting a little more in the flavors of my food.

The fries were more like seasoned fries, very crispy and soft. The clam chowder tasted good as well. *Lobster roll : 4/5 - Honestly it was a nice solid lobster roll. I was really surprised on the bread they have used for this. It was more a texas toast, buttered on each side. The lobster tastes fresh, the shallots were a nice addition on top. It also comes with a side of fries which were very crispy and soft. *Octopus Cocktail: 2/5 - Its made for 2 people. I thought it would taste good with the mango and jalapeno extract but man that spice leaves a mark in your throat. Key lime tequila was good as a had a key lime foam on top. Apparently this place is going through some company changes because online there is no menu available. I have dropped it in the pictures below to get a better idea of whats available here. Although it is mostly seafood, not all of it is. It's a solid dinner for seafood lovers. The service was exceptional. On a side note I will say management needs to do something about the restrooms situation. I don't mind all gender restrooms, but its a concern when I can see the person next to me in the other stall. Its a huge glass mirror and underneath the mirror is a huge sink where you can wash your hands. There is a space between the mirror and sink where if someone needs to do their #2 they can actually see the other person. Not very private and somewhat concerning.

Despite the restaurant being busy, we never felt any lag in service at all. The seafood? I'll start with the good. My brother enjoyed his sea bass, and my dad enjoyed his Alaskan cod. Both thought the portions were a little small for the price, but they liked their meals. The cioppino, on the other hand, was probably one of the worst I've ever had. The broth was oddly sour, and nearly all of the shellfish was overcooked. I almost spit the calamari out. It was that bad. The shrimp was good, and the chunks of fish were decent, but overall this dish was a huge miss. At almost $50, it's hard to justify. They either need to go back to the drawing board or take it off the menu. The standout was the daily cherry sorbet. WOW. Easily some of the best sorbet I've ever had. One random thing: whatever linen they use sheds everywhere. I loved how soft it felt until I walked outside and realized I was covered in lint. Would I come back? No. That said, it was still a lovely dinner with family. The ambiance was nice, and the service was genuinely exceptional. If you're coming for the hospitality, you'll probably leave happy. If you're coming for the cioppino, I'd strongly recommend ordering something else.

She didn't make us feel rushed despite the growing line behind us (we were truly trying to hurry, though, because of it). If you like sashimi, get their sashimi appetizer! We haven't been able to find a good place for sashimi since we moved to Southern California 5 years ago. Don't get me wrong, we've gotten good sashimi, but not cut thick & with good quality that is worth the price like this place. The price wasn't even as high as many of the other sashimi places we've tried! They give you only 2 fish choices on the plate, however. They have listed about 5 or 6 different kinds, but it depends on what is available. We had salmon & tuna. Salmon is my favorite, but their tuna was fantastic! First time I can say I may have liked it better than the salmon!! Their other dishes we had were also yummy. My daughter loves scallops & they were cooked to perfection. I don't usually like scallops because most places cook them till they're rubbery. Not this place! My husband had swordfish & I had the sea bass. Both were also delicious, but I think they may have mixed up which plate went to which person. Good thing, as we were trying each others' food, my daughter noted the slight texture difference between the two (I hadn't had a chance to taste them yet). Interestingly, swordfish usually has a vastly different texture than bass, but here, they cook it so well, there wasn't a huge amount of difference! That says something since swordfish is usually very "meaty." If my daughter hadn't noticed, I wouldn't have complained even though I was looking forward to the bass. I like flakier fish. However, the bass wasn't as flaky as I anticipated, but both were so tender, the mix-up wasn't a deal breaker. I don't know how they season the rice, but YUM! Even though I'm Asian, I'm not one who usually eats the rice. It's usually just a filler for me, & since I don't eat much, I'd rather eat the "other stuff" & usually leave most of the rice. Not here! I almost couldn't get enough of it, lol! So good!! At the end, we needed boxes. We had to ask two different waitresses since the first one we asked never came with them. It's an "order at the register then find a table" type of place, so there wasnt any "service" to speak of. Be prepared to stand in line - this place is popular for a reason! Parking is a challenge, but worth it. We definitely will be back!

We were instantly drawn to Pete's because of the dog friendly patio. There are about 6 tables on…read morethe very small patio, and on a Thursday during lunchtime all but 2 were taken. You'll have to park about a quarter mile away and potentially in a neighborhood because there is no parking on the street where Pete's is. I was sold on the crab roll as I'm not a really big fan of lobster. We also opted for the fish and shrimp. The crab roll is a stand out on its own. It had very great flavor and was fresh. I didn't mind the thick piece of bread that it came on, but I found myself just eating the crab itself. The fish and shrimp were actually quite nice and fresh. The shrimp was better than the fish in terms of seasoning. The fish was in desperate need of any type of seasoning. It was extremely plain. A dash of salt, or your favorite dipping sauce perhaps. I did find it interesting that the fish and shrimp plate did not come with a lemon. The fries were not too bad and reminded me a bit of In-N-Out fries when they've been in the bag for five minutes longer than they should and become soggy. They aren't bad, just would have preferred them to be crispier. The patio is covered and although it's small and the tables can feel close to each other the area still nice. For these two dishes, we spent $58.

Lobster roll (warm): It felt like a good amount of lobster, but the soggy roll ruined it for me. I couldn't even pick it up without the whole thing falling apart. The flavor was there but that soggy roll ruined it. Seafood platter: They said it was a plate for two, but I don't know about that. It was nice to try a variety of different seafood. Most of it was good but the fish needs to be firmer. It just fell apart and I wasn't used to that kind of texture. We sat outside in the patio area since inside seemed pretty busy. Service was quick and friendly.
