Fortunately, the doors opened shortly after 10:30am and the queue moved smoothly with plenty of sushi and sandos available in the refrigerated cases. We went the sando route and were happy with our picks. If you're a fan of egg salad, the tamago, which is packed full of fluffy minced egg and mayo, will do you right. That being said, it is one note, so you need to be in the mood for eggy goodness. For a more well-rounded and textured bite, the ebi sando was tasty. Their signature soft milk bread + a panko coated patty with plenty of shrimp + cabbage in a creamy tartar sauce = yum! As a sweet finish, choose your fave fruit sando. The folks in front of us swiped the last of the all-strawberry, so we went with strawberry-kiwi. The kiwi was meh, but the berry whipped cream parts were delightful! The sandos are generously sized and great for sharing. If you're super-hungry, you can scarf down all three slices in a pack, but more likely, you'll eat two and enjoy the third as a next day snack. Shout out to the only Japanese sando place in town! That being said... I would give this place a 3.5 stars because I loved the presentation and the fresh ingredients but at the end of the day - a sandwich is a sandwich, and I'm not sure it's worth the price. I decided to round up to 4 stars because of the attention to detail to food and how good the katsu sando was. For a sandwich, these are some pretty darn good sandwiches. Our favorites were the katsu and egg, which were both full of flavor and densely packed with filling. The lobster was disappointingly overpowered by spicy mayo (which could be a good thing for some people) and the fruit sandwich was just ok. For a meal though... I'm not really sure I would return and it's mostly due to the cost. It felt strange paying higher end dining prices for a sandwich - even if it was a delicious, high quality sandwich. I will say portions are very good - I think the average person would be full after a single box of sando. We ordered ahead and picked food up and as this is a grab-n-go place, can't really comment on the service. The shop itself was very neat and cute though, and the display case is just mouth wateringly beautiful. I would like to give them another chance and try their sushi next but still have to recover from the sticker shock. I bought a box of mixed sandos and a strawberry sando. My friend had a 10-piece sushi box. First, let's talk about the good. The sushi was fresh and of restaurant quality. The Ebi sando was great with good flavors. The chicken katsu sando was good. Now, the reason why I gave it 3 stars. The strawberries in the strawberry sando were sour and as a result, the sando did not taste good. It felt like a waste of calories. I don't want to eat a strawberry sando from Choo Sando ever again. The Tamago sando was bland and tasted far inferior to the Japanese egg salad sandos in convenience stores in Tokyo. I will not repurchase. I had major cravings for this place after seeing it on tik tok. They open at 10:30am but say to come early because they'll close if they sell out. We arrived at like 10:25 and there was already a line! We didn't get inside until about 10:50. So if you don't plan ahead and pre-order, make sure you aim to come early if it's Saturday! The sandos were so good! The egg salad one was amazing, I've never actually had Japanese egg salad and this hit the spot! The only thing about this sandwich is that the slices were so packed full that every time I took a bite, it squeezed out the sides of the sandwich. The pork katsu sando was really good! It's recommended you pair it with their katsu sauce. I do wish there was slightly more cabbage slaw with it but it was so so good still. The beef bulgogi one was a lot more moist and had such a nice flavor profile, even the after taste was good! I didn't try the lobster and shrimp one but my fiancé said he liked those more than the pork katsu. The star of the show was the strawberry cream sando, it met all my expectations and more. The whipped cream was just thick enough to not be absorbed by the bread, and just sweet enough to pair with the tartness of the strawberries. I would wait in line all over again just for this sandwich. The store itself was cute but very small, so just be prepared for limited seating. I was really excited to see Choo Sando finally make it from pop up to a brick and mortar location off Burnet- But my excitement over time has been dented by how they operate their business. They appear to operate as a FOMO business, with limited hours and limited quantities of food which turns the experience of visiting there into a dice roll every time. In the 5 times I've gone recently I was only able to get food once. 2 times the restaurant was closed well before their closing time. The other 2 they were sold out of most items hours before closure. As someone who drove 30+ minutes every time to try and get something...It's been baffling. It does beg the question, why use a scarcity model for a sandwich shop? It's not rocket science to adjust quantities to last until closing. The way things are running atm, the end result at Choo Sando is a highly inconsistent, needlessly frustrating experience for customers. I know the food is good. This place is amazing! Love the quick counter service set up and the food was so good. Spicy KFC Sando (8/10): This was so yummy a spicy gochujang sauce and crunchy kimchi. Strawberry and Mango Sando (10/10): This was honestly the star, the cream is so good with the fluffy white bread. I would come back just to eat this. Katsu Sando (5/10): This was just okay. The cut of the pork was too thick for it to be juicy and the flavors were just average. Spicy Scallop and Sake Don (9/10): The spicy scallop is my favorite!! The flavors and the textures were amazing. The salmon is buttery and fresh and did not taste fishy at all! Uni, Ikura, Sake Toro Don (9.5/10): The uni was sweet, creamy and melted in your mouth! This much uni at a restaurant can go anywhere around ~$30 so for $44 for this whole box it is a steal. The Ikura wasn't really for me but the salmon belly was also smooth and buttery and had great flavor. We will definitely be coming back! I got a mixed pack of Sandos and the tamago crab salad. Hands down the tamago crab salad was my favorite. The right balanced for fresh crab to the sweet and savory egg cake. The mixed pack was alright. I had high hopes for the tonkatsu sandwich, but it was alright. I didn't think the bread they used was a match for that flavor profile. The bread is on the sweeter side but did work with the other Sandos. The Sandos are in the pricier side so the mixed pack is a great value. The Sandos were good. Egg Salad - Not as creamy as I would have hoped, but that may be due to a greater familiarity with American-style egg salad. Incredible is an understatement. If you've ever had Chef Choo's creations from other restaurants he's been Chef at, then you know he's a magician in the kitchen. His sandos are nothing less! I tried the sample pack of 8 of his best sellers and they were each perfect and satisfying. Atmosphere: For this I will be describing the overall ordering experience. One thing I really love about Choo Sando is it's Pop Up style business. Items are pre-order only and can only be ordered before a set time online for the week. This really gives the feel of exclusivity and overall special vibe, which to me helps it feel that much more memorable, like something you can only catch on certain days and certain times of the week. On top of all that exclusivity is the excellent presentation when you get your order. Amazing looking food and cute stickers galore. Food: With so many sandwiches to choose from it's hard for me to suggest just one, as they're all incredible in their own style. Best I can say is to just go with what you feel like eating that day, as either way you're probably going to leave happy. I ended up getting both the Katsu and the KFC. Fluffy milk bread, with good seasoned meats and sauces, makes for a literal perfect sandwich that just left me feeling happy throughout it all. Service: As everything is just pre-ordered and there's no actual dining in, human interaction is limited. With that said service is still very friendly and welcoming. I got the KFC Sando and it was alright. It was around $16, (which could be used at a Korean restaurant with all the side dishes.) Walked in on Wednesday at 10:30AM (open time) and there were only ~10 others in line. By the time I got to the sandwiches and sushi, there was no more sushi! I asked if they had any more sushi for the day and the lady went to the back to check. She gave me a wait time of ten minutes which was not bad. The shop is clean, there are decent counter and table seatings, and the staff is friendly. They also have a vending machine for drinks and packed each order with katsu sauce, ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce. There's also plenty of parking in the lot. I thought the sushi was super fresh for takeout and the sandwiches were perfect size. The price was reasonable for the quality of the sushi. The fruit sando is similar to the original cream cake from tous les jours but the cream is more dense and not as spongy since it's bread and not cake. It's definitely cute but I don't see myself coming back just for the sandwich. It's a great spot to pick up different sandos and sushi to try with family and friends. Their sando is really good and yummy! However i did come here on a weekday twice and around 12-1 their selection is pretty much very limited so i'd advise to preorder the night before or come early. I tried their fruit sando/ strawberry one before which was one of my favorites but it was all gone today, so instead i got the katsu sando, egg sando, and the scallop+ salmon bowl. The katsu sando was my favorite- it was very juicy and they give you extra sauce on the side as well. The egg was good but lacking flavor in my opinion, and the salmon was a tad bit fishy for me.
