Aside from a handful of places in Austin that do takeout sushi very well, this place's claim to fame are their omakase boxes. I ordered the grand omakase for a picnic and added a lobster cut roll as an extra. The presentation is beautiful. The box is sturdy and all the pieces are laid out delicately with a card that details what you're getting and what sauce to use. I appreciated the variety of nigiri, roll, sashimi, and sunomono. The nigiri itself is nothing special. If you're not consuming it as it's prepared, it doesn't taste very fresh. I did like the salmon roll that came with it as it had a nice crispy onion flavor. Overall, it did do its job and left us pretty full.

I went here for their grand omakase recently. Overall I felt the price was fair for what you got. I do wish it wasn't as rushed as service and there were more sashimi options vs nigiri. It was a lot of rice which was heavy . I wish the service was just a bit better

This is a skewed review since it's based on their takeout box. For the price, this is an okay option. Most people go in hoping it's equivalent to the famous Sugar Fish. It is not. The fish and rolls completely lack flavor. The presentation is nice but is reflected in the price. For Austin, this is a decent option but not something I ever crave or would regularly order.

I was excited to try this place because I love sushi. The concept is all omakase style at different price points. I ordered the signature omakase and I feel that it's a pretty decent deal for the price. They start you off with the Sunomono Salad. This salad was decent, but a little sour. I'd lighten up on the dressing. The tuna sashimi was pretty solid too. Every bite was delish and the staff were super friendly. There is a parking garage where you can get it validated so it's free. There's also street parking if you're lucky. The area is pretty nice too.

THE BIG: Finally happy that there is a North Austin location! Located in The Grove, this sushi spot is ultra modern but with warm wooden tones. Plenty of seating inside and parking is either street or in the garage. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here with a co worker to catch up when he was visiting from Canada. When we got in here around 2pm, the place was dead. We were the only people inside. Granted it was past the lunch rush. We ordered two omakases which is affordably priced and has 8 tastings. It first started off with the sunomono salad, before going into our first tuna sashimi piece. Then we had two yellowtail and salmon nigiris. Then we had our toro handroll which was the best bite in my opinion. Then we wrapped up with the albacore, akami and salmon hand roll. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, the damage done here was around $90 for two normal omakases. Very affordable sushi and fresh.

Great omakase for a good price!! Came here for valentine's day and was quite crowded. Our reservation was at 7 but waited about 30-40 minutes before being seated. We both got the standard omakase which consisted of about 10 different types of omakase that came out of about 5-6 plates. The first two plates came out pretty fast so the waiter asked if we wanted our plates slowed down which we did, but it ended up putting our food on hold which took about 20 minutes before we realized and had to ask to our table to be put off hold. Slow down plates =/= hold. The food itself was pretty good - the fish was so fresh and the rice was well made. Would come again!

I highly recommend this place! It's a delicious Omakase place that offers 4 great tasting menus based upon preference and how hungry you are. It also has an à la carte menu. We chose the signature and executive tasting menus. I was completely satisfied with the signature whereas my husband received a few extra pieces of sushi with his executive. Everything was so good and creative, the fish melted in your mouth. Service was outstanding! You can dress it up for date night or come in more casual. Don't hesitate, just go!

Tancho was bright and modern inside. Very wooden and Japanese feeling. The service was great and they easily accommodated a 10 month old and have changing stations on the bathroom. The food was delicious and the omakase was filling enough for me.

Sushi is delicious but portions are small, as most are nigiri or small rolls- staff is kind and super attentive but make sure to eat something before or you might reach your dinner budget limit without eating much: this is a quite space, gives off zen vibes 100%

My experience at Tancho- Grove was great! It's a dimly lit spot that seems excellent for a date night. The food came out quickly and each item was explained to us. This is an omakase restaurant with a few a la carte options. They're very reasonably priced for it being omakase- the standard menu is about $41 and the lighter menu is $31. Drinks were reasonably priced as well. Drink options are limited to beer, wine and sake. I opted for the standard menu and enjoyed each option that was brought out. I wish I had been hungrier so that I may have tried more options. I will definitely be back!

My husband got me the Omakase to go and I loved it! Presentation is top notched with sauces, sushi, nigiri, salad and sashimi all nicely separated. The fish was very fresh even an hour after. It comes with chopsticks, napkins and instructions for how to enjoy every bite. Only hard part was pacing myself to make the box last!

As soon as you walk inside Tancho, you can notice the ambiance sets the mood for a romantic date night. Service was impeccable even though they are a non-tipping restaurant. We shared the Grand Omakase and added another second sunomono salad, the sea bream nigiri, the unagi nigiri and the baked crab roll from the specials. I had two glasses of the Chardonnay and shared a bottle of sake. I would recommend Tancho to anyone looking for an intimate sushi dinner spot.

A special shoutout to Asher, who made the experience even better. He was incredibly attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, checking on us throughout the meal and making sure everything was perfect. His service truly stood out and made us feel welcomed from start to finish. The atmosphere was elegant yet comfortable, and the quality of both the food and service was exceptional. Tancho has easily become one of our favorite sushi spots in Austin, and we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend asking for Asher if you visit!

Fish is excellent, service friendly. Thumping bass of the music was really loud and annoying. 3.75 stars, because that really detracts.

Overpriced for supermarket grade sushi. Rice not correctly stick and packed in nigiri pieces, cuts of sushi are thinned out.

"I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream"...so the saying goes. I decided to meet a friend that lives downtown Austin for some ice cream at the The Baked Bear, a frequent hang out spot for her and my first visit. The Baked Bear is located in the Seaholm complex between Cesar Chavez and 3rd Streets near West Avenue. After a couple of samples, I decided on Blackberry Crumble. Our server was so sweet and kind including suggesting some of the shop's favorites. OMG the ice cream was so smooth...so flavorful...so absolutely delicious to eat. Interestingly, the ice cream was reasonably priced. It was great cooling off and enjoying catching up with my friend.

I prefer the mini but they're sold out a lot which shows you how spectacular this place is. My go to is the nutty valentine. The donut is always warm, fresh, and crispy. When we went our choices were $9-$10 donut base desserts. I say base because the toppings cover up the donut visually. Despite that, there's no covering that scrumptious taste and texture. Wowaweea. Yes, you feel your cells expand and pants tighten and it is for sure run club pre and post, but quite worth it. These divine donuts have that cakey interior I love so much. We had the Puddin': cream cheese icing, vanilla pudding, fresh bananas with nilla wafers. According to the menu. Ours didn't have any nilla wafers and the presentation was uneven, hence the four stars. I didn't miss the wafers. The icing and pudding were one goopy topping and the bananas slices were half scattered slices and half banana chunk that I had to separate. Side notes: Gourdough sits on a corner with parking spots that are not free. There's a pay via QR code so you'll need a phone or something to scan that. Boo for digital shackles. Next note- I feel like this is a low key meet up spot. Like the way they tried to make the first train cars on the MTA the singles car? There was a series of singles getting doughnuts and they were a little done up for the occasion. Who knows. With the little IG ready love seats and doughnuts made for sharing, you could walk away with extra sugar.

Even so, the ambience seems like the decorations were cute, but very cheap and damaged overtime with little to no repairs. But I didn't come here for aesthetics. I came here for great Boba tea and sweet treats. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. What looked like a traditional milk toast dessert, was literally four pieces of stale bread, toasted and stacked on top of each other. that tasted freezer burnt with lots of sauce on top. No topping between each layer so it was not flavorful or tasty and all you could taste was a weird chemical flavor from the bread. Same thing with the ice cream, so freezer burnt that it tasted of chemicals, cardboard, and didn't even melt despite sitting on the plate for 15+ minutes. The Taro tea itself was fine with the crème brûlée topping, but the brown sugar Boba had the same chemical "going bad" flavor to it. It was super hard and bitter tasting instead of sweet. The soufflé pancakes were fine, but the ice cream was terrible on that too. It's hard to mess up Ice Cream, but somehow they managed.
