Omg, 10000/10--I absolutely love Choo Sando! One thing to know before you go: I initially thought you could order from a full menu as a walk-in, but it's actually designed as more of a grab-and-go concept. Everything is beautifully pre-packaged, and once they sell out for the day...that's it! I had my eye on one of their variety sando packs, but by the time I got there they only had one combination left (chicken sando, lobster sando, and egg salad). Since I was about to hit the road for a few hours, I decided to keep it light and went with one of their dessert sandos instead. I tried the strawberry & kiwi fruit sando, made with fresh fruit, whipped cream, and Japanese milk bread. I'll admit...at first glance I thought it was cake (which honestly wouldn't be a bad idea! ), but the soft white bread was surprisingly perfect. It balanced the sweetness beautifully, making it light, airy, and not overly sweet at all. It definitely satisfied my sweet tooth without feeling heavy. The display case was full of gorgeous sushi boxes, omakase sets, and sandos that all looked incredibly fresh and almost too pretty to eat. You can definitely tell they put a lot of care into presentation. I didn't get to try more this visit because I had a long drive ahead of me, but this is absolutely a spot I'll be back to on my next trip to Austin. Choo Sando is officially one of my new favorite sushi spots in Austin. It's a grab and go setup with plenty of parking, and everything comes pre packed in containers, so it's first come first served. They close at 2:30PM and once an item sells out for the day, that's it, so I'd recommend getting there earlier rather than later. I went with the spicy scallop and salmon sashimi over rice, and honestly for twenty four dollars it's one of the better deals in the city for that quality of fish. I dined in and the guy working the counter surprised me with a free miso soup, and while I was chatting with some other folks in line, one gentleman offered me a piece of the strawberry mango fruit sando, which had the softest, fluffiest bread I've had in a sandwich like that. Next time I'm coming back for the black truffle chicken sando, which caught my eye on the menu. Great food, great hospitality, and a steal for the price. How have I never written a review for Choo Sando? Well, I love it! I think it's great and I think a testament to the quality is that even now there's a line waiting for Choo Sando to open. I went there on a Friday morning around 10:15 and I was about the 5th in line. The line was reasonable, but I like to get there early so that all the options are available. I've gone later, when there is no line, but you are limited in choices. Let's start with the food. You can definitely not go wrong. Every item is beautifully presented and a piece of art, almost too beautiful to eat, ALMOST... I've tried a variety from their sushi combinations and they're all good. I've also tried a few of the sandos and my favorite are the Pork Katsu, lobster, and egg salad. The service is always friendly. It's a small store front and seems like mostly family run, but I could be wrong about this. Often Chef Choo himself is there to help greet people at the door. I've had this place bookmarked for over three years, and I was finally able to come try it! We arrived at 10:20 am Saturday (opens 10:30 am), and there were around 20 people in front of us. However, they do a great job of crowd control, and the line moved quite fast. It took us around 20 minutes to make it inside. While it is quite small inside, there is some seating. My friends and I got a bunch of different sandos and sushi. The sandos were amazing with their different sauces! All of the fish was super fresh, and the flavors were so good! I preordered a few items a week before New Year's Eve for pick up NYE. Honestly the best decision ever because it made our NYE so memorable. I see ppl reviews saying it's expensive but if you go to any sushi restaurant and got 10 nigiris it would cost you the same and/or more. If you are comparing all you can eat sushi, the quality is subpar and you are getting what you are paying for. I notice this 10 piece nigiri had a king salmon with truffle and like wow!! It was so good! I love that they changed it up a little for a nice little surprise than the norm. Come with soup. Spicy Tuna & Sake Don: $21 5/5 consistently the same top quality! Comes with soup and seaweed. Sake Don: $27 5/5 I am a salmon lover and this is my first time trying this one. Salmon was super yummy! Definitely hit the spot. I usually get the spicy scallop and Sake don but notice these past two times I've gotten it, the scallops are not the same as the original ones I've gotten. The scallops are small tiny ones now and the taste is simply not the same as the first time I've had it. I'm not a fan of the tiny scallops they not use. That is what makes this katsu special. I love that that bread is not thick because you get to enjoy the katsu which is the star of the Sando. Bread is soft and cabbage salad in between made it refreshing and not heavy feeling. Do I recommend Choo Sando? Absolutely ! When I came to Choo Sando, I witness a customer coming in past 12pm and complaining to the cashier why there was no more items left and just giving the staff a hard time.......Also I notice as I scroll and read reviews about the long lines (that go quick) and not getting what you want...There is an option to PREORDER and support the business. I think it's unfair to fault the business for inventory and underrate them when they give you the option to get what you want by preordering a head of time on their website. It is that simple. My family had lunch here this weekend. We waited about an hour in line and by the time we got in, I would say about a 1/2 the sushi was sold out. We were able to grab a bunch of things though (ended up getting too much, probably overdoing it to make sure we got to try everything we wanted). There is seating for ~15 people inside but we had no problem finding a table. Vast majority of folks carry out their purchases. Granted we ordered too much (probably enough for 2 full meals), this place is quite expensive. Prices to match a $$$ sit down such restaurant. Our meal was close to $300 (w/ no alcohol to boost that price). Generally, the sushi was good (to sometimes very good). I would have been satisfied if this were the quality of the food at a nice sit down restaurant. That said, for this price, I would not wait in line again, I would just go to a nice sit down restaurant. A minor complaint is that even though I'm a big fan of truffle, the use of the truffle oil was overdone on quite a few of the sushi. Since you're picking pre-packaged bento-style boxes, you don't really get to pick whether you want the truffles on top or not. My favorite dish was the Lobster sando (which I had later in the day), Overall, an experience I'm glad I got to try one, not sure I'd do it again. P.S. This trip was planned months ago so I even set a reminder to pre-order the sushi. It appears that generally you order it 2-3 days in advance so I set a reminder 3 days out. The others actually tasted pretty similar, with the exception of the miso salmon. I personally don't like goat cheese (no modifications allowed), but MT enjoyed it more. The bread wasn't soft like milk bread but maybe that was because we picked up our order at the end of the day. We also ended up using their homemade sauces for each bite for some extra flavor. ** Truffle pork sando: definitely for die-hard truffle fans! Fragrant and tasted of lots of truffle. The meat was thick but not too dry (yay katsu sauce). ** Sushi: I loved how a printed description of each fish came with the sampler box. I was here for the sandos, and I got two packages of the mixed: one had spicy chicken katsu, egg salad, and pork katsu (I think), and the other had strawberry, spicy chicken again, and shrimp. Everything was phenom! Some people have noted that the sandwiches are messy- yep. They stuff a ton of stuff in them and the bread is delicious but small. But I really enjoyed them all- my highlights were the strawberry, egg salad, and the perfect sweet/spicy chicken katsu. I will be so bold to say I think this was the best whipped cream of my life. The sushi all looked insanely good- like magazine level prettiness. I did give 4 start though because I do feel the prices are pretty damn high, The sandwiches are about $13-20 depending on ingredient, and based on portion it feels like they should be about $9-$16. And the sushi is really expensive- a roll will run you starting at $18-20 and it goes up from there. But I'm not a sushi connoisseur and maybe the fish quality deserves those prices. People were certainly buying it. The other reason for the 4 stars is I found the younger gentleman working the register today (1/16) to be rude. When I asked to have my two sandwich packs rung up separately because I wanted to expense one, he cut me off as I was saying just that and said "I know how expensing works". I saw this place recommended on TikTok, and I was excited to try! I arrived at 11 AM on a Saturday. They open at 10:30 AM and they close whenever they sell out. When I arrived, there were eight people in front of me. I waited about 10 minutes until I was able to get to the store. Inside, there is bar seating, and a few small tables. All of the sandos and bentos are so aesthetic! I got two sandos, the ebi and the beef truffle. If you want to try a variety of sandaos, check the very left side of the display, near the check out. Here you will find some of their mixed sando boxes, where you can get three different flavors in one box. The sandos range from $14 to around $20. Some of their specialty sandos, such as the beef truffle flavor, aren't in their mixed sand boxes. The service was very nice! The employee recommended the homemade Katsu sauce to pair with the truffle sando. I also like how they have a water filter machine and to-go containers prepared for the sauces. The sandos were delicious! The bread did not get soggy, even after I ate some leftovers the next day. I liked the truffle one more. I thought I had a more unique flavor than the ebi/shrimp. The ebi is a shrimp katsu breaded in panko. For the truffle, I liked the Katsu sauce that the employee recommended. It helped cut down the richness and oiliness from the truffle flavor. There's a sign inside that says their sandwiches are good to be at room temperature for 72 hours. You can reheat with the microwave or a toaster oven. Or just eat them from the fridge the next day. This place is so cute for a light but filling lunch. We went to grab some food before hitting Barton Springs and it was the perfect picnic pick me up. The place is quite small but charming and has a couple open fridges for you to choose from several sandwiches and sushi options. Everything is fresh and made that day, and your options are limited to what they have in stock in the fridge. Walk-ins are accepted from 10:30am to 2pm. All you do is pick your food and pay at the counter. I wanted to try the tamago egg salad but we arrived at 12 and they were out of stock so we ended up getting the chicken and spicy chicken katsu along with the strawberry and cream sando. All three were DELICIOUS. They also had a couple of sauces for you to put on each. One was a savory mustard type sauce and the other was a sweet and spicy chilli. Our order total for the three types of sandwiches was around $40 which i feel is fair. You can order in advance to guarantee getting what you want but it requires you to put in the order two days in advance. Overall, I would totally recommend this to anyone in need of a quick bite!! We went at like 12 on a Saturday and they had no sushi and limited sandwich options. I was very very surprised by the size and the price (it's really expensive for a sandwich). Unpacking the items looked great and beautifully presented. We got two lunch sushi boxes, two daily sushi box which had a variety of sushi pieces taht included blue fine tuna, salmon, hamachi, sea bream, and scallop. It tasted fresh and was so good. Also we got the mini chirashi don, which had a good assortment of sashimi on top of sushi rice. Although not really a hidden gem anymore, Choo Sando Omakase is a great grab and go concept if you are craving high quality sushi, chirashi bowls, and Sandos. When I arrived on a Saturday afternoon, the line was pretty long but consistently moving. The wait was about 10-15 minutes, and when you enter the store you are greeted with a display full of options. My partner and I decided to try the 10 piece nigiri set and a sando set that featured three of their Sando flavors. The nigiri was so good and the fresh was very fresh. My favorite cuts of fish were the salmon, hamachi, madai, and akami. The different combinations they created for each piece work very well, and the rice to fish ratio was perfect. With this set they give you a miso soup and some of their homemade soy sauce. The sandos were also good, but I think the sushi is the star at this restaurant. The restaurant doesn't have a lot of seating, so plan to eat your food elsewhere. Overall, I would definitively give Choo Sando Omakase a visit again, and definitely try one of their other sushi platters. Also, they seem to sell out of items on the weekend so try to avoid planning your visit when they are close to closing as they may not have what you want! read more

High quality chirashi bowls and sandos. Definitely expensive but pretty good. Unfortunately you have to reserve 2 days in advance or there's a chance there will be nothing less for pickup by noon. I love the chirashi bowls because they come with seaweed so you can make your own sushi rolls. Love that it comes with pickles and lots of ikura. Only wish there was more rice and it wasn't enough for the amount of fish/veggies and seaweed. Lobster sando was too spicy for me so I wouldn't order it again but would like to try the other ones. read more

This is THE PLACE to go for takeout sushi. The fish tastes as fresh with good flavor. I appreciated the complimentary miso soup and homemade soy sauce too. There's a few tables inside to eat after you grab your food. The prices are also very reasonable for the high quality of the ingredients. Also shout out to this concept where everything is laid out with descriptions and prices so you know exactly what you're getting. Even better than a menu with photos. read more

The BEST and FRESHEST sushi l have ever eaten anywhere including Japan. Great attention to detail and the presentation is out of this world. The food is served in small handmade bamboo boxes. Not many places serve real caviar on each piece. read more
