Probably the worst service and sushi experience I've ever had. We made reservations for our anniversary, and it was a terrible experience over all. The server was cold and rude. We thought we ordered $9 large format beers but we received standard size ones that were 2/3 full with only one bottle of the two. The glasses were warm and scratched. Our appetizers came after our sushi, so we received edamame and miso soup during the second roll of sushi. They also brought two orders of the wrong edamame, by the third order we received the corrected one. All the sushi was mushy and flavorless. Our server never returned to ask if we wanted additional drinks or more food. We had to chase down another person for the bill. Will not return, will not recommend. 0/10 not worth the hype. read more

After too long of a hiatus, I finally returned to Tatsumi last night and had some incredible nigiri. We did a mix of our choices and our server's choices: -king sake (classic, fantastic) -fujisan trout (insane, loved) -Hirame (solid start -ishigakidai -yukimasu (bacon jam, ponzu, truffle sauce) -otoro (a MUST) -Hotate foie gras (fig jam, Lemon, citrus juice) -madai (better than others I've tried, citrusy and fresh) -unagi (sweet end to the meal) All of the fish was fantastic. Was excited to try a new sushi spot and checked out Tatsumi Sushi. The rolls were fresh and tasty but a bit heavy on the sauce at times. Service was decent, our waiter was a little awkward, but everything came out in a timely manner. The music was really loud, which made it tough to hear everyone at our table of four. Prices also felt a little high for what you get. We ended with the matcha tiramisu, which was unfortunately disappointing in size, flavor, and presentation. The sushi was very good and our waiter was very helpful with suggestions in food and sake. I had been here a couple times before some years ago and don't recall it being as good as it was last week when I met a friend here for an early dinner. Be prepared to spend some money as the options aren't cheap. The sake can be $20 per glass! My friend has been here several times so he ordered the chef's 7 piece choice and we added a couple of salmon pieces. After tasting the snow trout, we ordered a couple more of those but I forgot to take photos of them! The brussell sprouts were delicious! My friend ordered a unagi bowl to go for his son who was at home and they had it ready for us when we left. Came here to try their lunch menu and they have some pretty good prices at lunch. It was fairly empty before noon but they got more customers after noon, I ordered the Chirashi which has 9 types of sashimi over sushi rice. The sushi rice came with kanpyo soI wasn't sure what that was but it seems to make the sushi rice more like fried rice in taste which was very different. The price was only 25$ which is way cheaper than most places for Chirashi bowl. This also came with miso soup with enoki mushrooms and small salad. I paired my meal with a cold Asahi beer from tap. Service was attentive. Will come here more often during lunch to explore their other sushi lunch specials as well as there bento lunch offerings from the kitchen. read more

Tiffany, the owner, was patient with us after being trapped in the elevator of our hotel for an hour & a half, our reservations were scheduled for 7:45pm and we called, from the elevator, to let them know that as soon as we got out of the elevator we were coming to dinner, please don't give up on us!!!! Rating: 2.6/5 [dine in] We were excited to try this place because of their high rating, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The restaurant had a modern industrial vibe. Service was extremely slow, and the food is overpriced for the quality. Tokyo Fried Chicken Karaage ($14): The meat was juicy and flavorful, though my husband thought it was just okay. Kani Jomaki ($18): Snow crab, greens, unagi, tamago, cucumber, shiso, and avocado. Unfortunately, this roll was very bland -- definite pass. Black Cod ($30): We waited quite a while for our black cod and even considered canceling the order. When it finally arrived, our server Vin (per the receipt) placed it on the table. Just as we finished taking pictures, a lady came over and said it was actually for another table and that our cod would be out "shortly." I'm pretty sure there's a health and safety policy that once a dish touches a table, it can't be served to another customer so her reasoning left us shocked. As for the cod itself, it was good but not as buttery soft as we prefer. A5 Ebi Uni Maki ($35): Charred A5 Miyazaki beef, botan ebi, uni, bigeye tuna maki. They only make 10 of these rolls per night, so we were glad to snag one. This roll had better quality ingredients and was more enjoyable. I'm not usually a fan of uni but could eat this one. It came with a fried shrimp head, but they didn't bring it to us until after the cod situation. When we asked for the check, it took forever to arrive. The sushi chef even had to remind our server. Right as I walked in, Tiffany welcomed me with such enthusiasm and hospitality. I asked for help on ordering for my large group. However, it was way too much and I wish they would've been more honest with the amount. The sushi here is very very fresh. I didn't expect for Texas sushi to be so good but I'm so glad I found this spot - not too fishy. My favorite was the crab roll. I think it was called LLG or KKG? or something like that. I recommend making a reservation in advance. Though they took us as walk ins, it seems like almost every table was already reserved even though it was mostly empty when we arrived (before 6:30PM). We tried the fried rice (delicious flavor but not a lot of pork). We got an assortment of nigiri including salmon, yellowtail, lean and fatty tuna, tamago, unagi, and two types of uni. The uni of the same type had a big taste difference (so be prepared for potentially getting less preferable tasting pieces) but it was some of the creamier better textured uni we've had in the states. The nigiri had a dreamy texture, buttery and soft without any odd chewy bits. The flavor felt a little lacking. I could have eaten any one of the nigiri and not tasted much distinction between them because there were toppings so not worth it to splurge on pricier cuts when the yellowtail and lean tuna were just as delicious as the fatty tuna. This was a much more classic sushi experience and I'd be interested in trying more of their dishes and nigiri in the future. read more

My husband and I had lunch here and loved it - highly recommended! It's a family run spot and everything was made with so much care. Our server was so sweet and helpful. We didn't have reservations but were seated right away - it sounds like weekdays around lunchtime aren't busy. It's a casual place, which is a big plus for us. My husband got a ton of nigiri - he loved everything! He worked with our server to pick out a great selection (sorry I don't know all the kinds as a vegetarian but just ask your server what they recommend as that helped steer him in the right direction). He said the fish to rice ratio was perfect, plus the cut and they put perfect toppings and even sauce the rice so the bites are all amazing as is (no soy sauce needed). I'm vegetarian and absolutely loved everything I got! The miso soup was so good, I really love the added mushrooms. And the house salad was fresh and the dressing was SO yummy. I got two rolls - the veggie tempura roll, as well as an avocado cucumber roll with added shiso leaf, both were amazing (so amazing it would be hard for me to order something new next time). We were in Austin for work and stumbled across this spot on Yelp. Honestly, some of the best sushi we've had in a while! The restaurant itself was pretty chilly when we first sat down, but the server was super responsive and almost immediately adjusted the temperature and even followed up a couple of times to make sure we were comfortable. We stopped by on a Thursday around 5:30 pm, just as the dinner rush was starting. There was only one other table seated, so service was impressively fast. Everything arrived within 5-10 minutes, and the staff was very attentive throughout dinner. Parking was easy with plenty of spots available in the large plaza. We tried the hamachi chili, which was generously sauced with a nice crunch on top, definitely a highlight. The karaage was well-fried with great texture, though the accompanying sauce didn't add much. We also ordered two sushi rolls: the zuke salmon, which was crunchy but less citrusy than expected, and the unagi roll. Unfortunately, the menu didn't note that it contained avocado, which my partner is allergic to. I do hope they update the menu for clarity, especially since other rolls list avocado as an ingredient. That was disappointing. While the food was solid overall, nothing stood out enough to warrant a special trip. Ordered a little of everything: seaweed salad, takoyaki, salmon crudo, Hawaiian rolls, unagi donburi, eel roll and yellow fish roll (forget the names) Food was tasty across the board. My personal favorite is the Hawaiann rolls and unagi rice, it is more on the saltier side than what I am used to but it's very flavorful. The fish tastes fresh and firm (in a good way), server was polite. Interior has nice lighting, and cozy, nice wooden chairs and table. Came out to be ~$60 ish per person in April 2025.
