Updated review: It's been years since I've been back and very pleased with our experience so we will be putting this restaurant on our rotation. LOGAN, our server was great. Attentive, gave great recs, and overall very friendly. He just moved to Austin 6 months ago. Give him a hello! Our favorite was A5 miyazaki hotate. The gold flakes really adds the extra oomph of flavor ( jk adds no flavor, looks pretty but probs can do without) However, when we come back we'll probably skip the A5 miyazaki hotate and just stick with the A5 ebi uni maguro roll. The A5 ebi uni maguro roll does come with fried shrimp heads on it. Logan advised we give them a try. If he didn't make that suggestion, I would have left them as decor. Surprisingly really tasty. The nigiri... fish was FANTASTIC. Most of our nigiri had a tad too much wasabi under the fish. Kind of over powering and distracts from the flavor.

There's nothing better than spending time with family and friends. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to enjoy dinner with a good friend. My morning started with church with my family, followed by a few activities throughout the day, but I made it a point to prioritize that time together. Dinner turned into a full-on, joyful experience when her husband stopped by with my favorite "play nephew" so he could see his Aunty D. We have this little high-five routine that always sends him into giggles...it's the sweetest thing and fills me with so much joy. Between that and catching up with my friend, the evening was already special. She suggested Tatsumi, a place I'd never tried before, and I love trying new restaurants. Interestingly, I've driven past this restaurant every week and never noticed it. Tatsumi Sushi is located on W. Anderson Lane next to High 5, near Office Depot. My friend has been coming here since the early days of COVID and was actually the restaurant manager Elvin's second customer. When we walked in, black curtains swayed gently from the breeze of the opening door, and the space opened up into a sleek, modern dining area. My friend ordered the omakase, which included 24 pieces of raw fish. Omakase means "I'll leave it up to you," allowing the chef to curate each course based on what's fresh, seasonal, and their own expertise. Now, I'll admit that kind of surprise isn't really my jam when it comes to food. Nothing on the menu initially jumped out at me, but when Elvin asked what I was in the mood for, I mentioned a crunchy crab roll. He took that idea and created something special, adding shrimp and avocado. My friend absolutely loved her omakase, and I did try a piece of the salmon...it was delicious. As for my roll, it was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and made with real crab. Truly next-level good. We started with miso soup, which was light yet flavorful and had a nice variety of textures. In addition to our entrees, we also had fried shrimp heads served with shrimp nigiri. The shrimp heads still had the eyeballs in (which I removed before eating), but they were crunchy and packed with flavor. Great company. Great food. Great memories. That's a recipe that's always worth repeating.

Absolutely delicious, perfect blend of flavors, carefully crafted sushi. Shoutout to Chef Elvin, providing above and beyond service. I hadn't been here in over a year, pleasantly surprised by the upgrade in both menu and atmosphere! Get the Uni Rice!!

After too long of a hiatus, I finally returned to Tatsumi last night and had some incredible nigiri. We did a mix of our choices and our server's choices: -king sake (classic, fantastic) -fujisan trout (insane, loved) -Hirame (solid start -ishigakidai -yukimasu (bacon jam, ponzu, truffle sauce) -otoro (a MUST) -Hotate foie gras (fig jam, Lemon, citrus juice) -madai (better than others I've tried, citrusy and fresh) -unagi (sweet end to the meal) All of the fish was fantastic. Service was lovely. I need to come back immediately.

I like it here. Creative and refined menu with a nice selection of classics and some creative. Nigiri is why we go + rolls, even karaage. Definitely try the A5 Miyazaki Hotate. The dessert we had was like a matcha tres leches. Excellent. Great options for sake and your favorite Japanese beers. Perfect celebration spot. Service on point and the place has the right feel for conversation but also intimacy. Shoutout to Elvin (Chef), Coco, and Tiffany!!

Was excited to try a new sushi spot and checked out Tatsumi Sushi. The rolls were fresh and tasty but a bit heavy on the sauce at times. Service was decent, our waiter was a little awkward, but everything came out in a timely manner. The music was really loud, which made it tough to hear everyone at our table of four. Prices also felt a little high for what you get. We ended with the matcha tiramisu, which was unfortunately disappointing in size, flavor, and presentation. Overall, not a bad experience, but there's definitely room for improvement.

The sushi was very good and our waiter was very helpful with suggestions in food and sake. I had been here a couple times before some years ago and don't recall it being as good as it was last week when I met a friend here for an early dinner. Be prepared to spend some money as the options aren't cheap. The sake can be $20 per glass! My friend has been here several times so he ordered the chef's 7 piece choice and we added a couple of salmon pieces. After tasting the snow trout, we ordered a couple more of those but I forgot to take photos of them! The brussell sprouts were delicious! My friend ordered a unagi bowl to go for his son who was at home and they had it ready for us when we left. I'm glad I gave this place another try as now I know another good sushi spot in the area!

Food was amazing and fish was so fresh! Come for the chirashi bowl (a bit expensive but definitely shareable). Call if you want a reservation cause they don't take online ones but they should also be walk-in friendly!

Came here to try their lunch menu and they have some pretty good prices at lunch. It was fairly empty before noon but they got more customers after noon, I ordered the Chirashi which has 9 types of sashimi over sushi rice. The sushi rice came with kanpyo soI wasn't sure what that was but it seems to make the sushi rice more like fried rice in taste which was very different. The price was only 25$ which is way cheaper than most places for Chirashi bowl. This also came with miso soup with enoki mushrooms and small salad. I paired my meal with a cold Asahi beer from tap. Service was attentive. Will come here more often during lunch to explore their other sushi lunch specials as well as there bento lunch offerings from the kitchen.

Fish was fantastic and also the seaweed salad is a can't miss. Tiffany is the BEST manager/host/person/queen and Elvin as the head chef was amazing! we love it here and cant wait to come back!

Rating: 2.6/5 [dine in] We were excited to try this place because of their high rating, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The restaurant had a modern industrial vibe. Service was extremely slow, and the food is overpriced for the quality. Tokyo Fried Chicken Karaage ($14): The meat was juicy and flavorful, though my husband thought it was just okay. Kani Jomaki ($18): Snow crab, greens, unagi, tamago, cucumber, shiso, and avocado. Unfortunately, this roll was very bland -- definite pass. Black Cod ($30): We waited quite a while for our black cod and even considered canceling the order. When it finally arrived, our server Vin (per the receipt) placed it on the table. Just as we finished taking pictures, a lady came over and said it was actually for another table and that our cod would be out "shortly." I'm pretty sure there's a health and safety policy that once a dish touches a table, it can't be served to another customer so her reasoning left us shocked. As for the cod itself, it was good but not as buttery soft as we prefer. A5 Ebi Uni Maki ($35): Charred A5 Miyazaki beef, botan ebi, uni, bigeye tuna maki. They only make 10 of these rolls per night, so we were glad to snag one. This roll had better quality ingredients and was more enjoyable. I'm not usually a fan of uni but could eat this one. It came with a fried shrimp head, but they didn't bring it to us until after the cod situation. When we asked for the check, it took forever to arrive. The sushi chef even had to remind our server. Overall, not worth the hype. We won't be back.

Right as I walked in, Tiffany welcomed me with such enthusiasm and hospitality. I asked for help on ordering for my large group. However, it was way too much and I wish they would've been more honest with the amount. The sushi here is very very fresh. I didn't expect for Texas sushi to be so good but I'm so glad I found this spot - not too fishy. My favorite was the crab roll. I think it was called LLG or KKG? or something like that. But next time I would edge on the risk of ordering less and adding more instead of creating so much food waste.

Everything is beautifully pre-packaged, and once they sell out for the day...that's it! I had my eye on one of their variety sando packs, but by the time I got there they only had one combination left (chicken sando, lobster sando, and egg salad). Since I was about to hit the road for a few hours, I decided to keep it light and went with one of their dessert sandos instead. I tried the strawberry & kiwi fruit sando, made with fresh fruit, whipped cream, and Japanese milk bread. I'll admit...at first glance I thought it was cake (which honestly wouldn't be a bad idea! ), but the soft white bread was surprisingly perfect. It balanced the sweetness beautifully, making it light, airy, and not overly sweet at all. It definitely satisfied my sweet tooth without feeling heavy. The display case was full of gorgeous sushi boxes, omakase sets, and sandos that all looked incredibly fresh and almost too pretty to eat. You can definitely tell they put a lot of care into presentation. I didn't get to try more this visit because I had a long drive ahead of me, but this is absolutely a spot I'll be back to on my next trip to Austin. Next time I'm getting there earlier before everything sells out! Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for fresh, high-quality grab-and-go Japanese bites.

For roughly $60 the wife was full and we had roughly 6 dishes and one cocktail (I was still slightly hungry). Think of it as more of a tapas style ordering. Soft shelled crab - My absolute favorite and by far the best dish! Crispy from the breading, soft shell and subtle crab taste, and to top it off the fried egg adds some creaminess from the yolk. Not greasy at all due to the way it's fried. And who doesn't like a little microgreen to add some freshness to it?! It could likely use a little more salt, and this particular time the yolk was a overcooked. Sushi Tacos - 2nd favorite! You get two, and frankly I prefer not sharing these (although my wife forced me to). It's such a unique dish. Each taco is palm sized. They take a yummy piece of laver (seaweed), coat one side and deep fry it to make a nice hard shell taco casing. Then they fill it with sushi rice, top it with plentiful tuna, add a slice of avocado, and top it with micro greens. Refreshing, light (once you squeeze the tiny lime on top), slightly filling due to the rice, and absolutely delicious. Takoyaki - I'm not a fan, but the wife is. For me it's a texture thing. Even when visiting Japan I didn't enjoy this dish. Honestly though I do think it deserves far more bonito flakes, as the dish is meant to look alive from the waving flakes. Honestly we love this place so much, I always get engrossed in the food so much I forget to take pics.
