The good: We had a reservation and we were seated immediately with no wait The restaurant was very clean Our waitress was friendly and sincerely apologized any time there was an issue The Brussels sprouts side was sooooo good! The bad: We were seated at 6pm and our entrees didn't arrive until after 7pm This place is not kid friendly. I didn't see anything online that would indicate this. Not only were the steaks awesome, my husband said it's the best steak dish he's ever had. What a hidden gem! My husband and I were looking to have dinner at a nice restaurant with good reviews. After some online research, we decided to come to the Chop Block Grill. Cleanliness: A+ Immaculate Waitress was Jennifer: A+++! She was super friendly, very knowledgeable, went out of her way to make sure she answered all of our questions and was incredible at anticipating our needs. (She must be their top employee.) Food: You MUST try the Piña Colada Rice! It is amazing- I couldn't stop raving about it, all the way home! The bowl of clam chowder was huge and full of tender clams. I ordered shrimp scampi- it came served over linguini with a light garlic/butter/wine sauce (refreshing, since most other restaurants have it swimming in oil.) Plentiful shrimp, cooked to perfection. It also came with a wonderful breadstick that had the nicest texture & flavor. My husband ordered Chicken Carbonara- he loved it! I tried his and must say, it was delicious. Tasty & warm butter garlic dinner rolls were a nice change from boring old bread, too. Seating & decor: I appreciated the minimalist decor as it accentuated the cleanliness & unpretentiousness of the restaurant. Seating is mostly booths but there were a couple tables. I liked that the back of the booth seats were tall, for privacy. Acoustical music was softly playing- very relaxing! The owner, Eric, (if I remember correctly,) came to our table to see how things were and tell us a bit about how business has been, and hear me rave about the Piña Colada Rice. I've driven by this place many times. There's no curb appeal whatsoever, but..... once you walk through the door, you're greeted by lovely staff who are eager to ensure your having a great experience. I came in in a grumpy mood. Low blood sugar and dealing with city hall, left me a tad cynical. May I say, this place delivered. I ordered a simple soup and salad. Garden salad with blue cheese dressing made in-house. The dressing was exquisite because it was on the thinner side, not like the typical glue you get, so the greens were still crisp and their flavors still evident. I also got the French onion soup which was beautifully broiled, and temperature and richness were perfect. I finished it off with the lemoncello cake which is not made in house but whoever made it did a fine job with some fresh whipped cream and lemon slice on the side. This place was recommended by a co-worker, looked descent in the pics, we got there and my date was asking a lot of questions because the place doesn't look like it belongs. The inside is a breath of fresh air, you can tell its a new set up, but the effort put into the atmosphere definitely deserves respect. We walked in on a Thursday evening at 6:30pm. The hostess didn't come to the front for at least 5+ minutes. A waitress saw us when we walked in and said she would ask the hostess to come up. The same waitress came by a few more times and then said they would find us a table or we could sit at a high top table. When the hostess finally came to the stand I asked if they had availability for two. She acted as though I was asking her a complex math problem. This place is great! Who would have thought you'd find a place like this in a strip mall? Blows me away... Anyway - we were seated immediately - it's a Wednesday evening - and the place is about half full. Our waitress is great, has a sense of humor and is very friendly. Breaking news: Hubs ordered clam chowder and verdict is....as good as Seafood Seller. That's huge. Caesar salads were fresh, crispy and delicious. Also good sized. Fried zucchini was freshly done and delicious. Hubs got a very good sized ribeye, liked the seasoning and the cut - however, he ordered medium rare and the meat is too far on the rare side. But it's good. I had the shrimp scampi - it's good but needed something - a squirt of fresh lemon or something - to brighten it up. And there's lots and lots of pasta in this dish - I can't eat it all. Shrimp is delicious, though. All in all, this a great place for a great meal. We will be back!! read more

First visit to Chop Block. Happy to see another premium choice for fine dining in Brooksville! Started out with calamari appetizer, glass of wine and cold Bud for the wife. Service was great! Wife ordered the chopped steak and I decided to go with cod with shrimp and scallops. Both meals were prepared perfectly and absolutely delicious. Super fresh including side salads. I've lived in this area for 15+ years and have seen so many restaurants come and go.... if anything ever happened to this one, I think I'd actually cry! That said, let me tell you that I am a notoriously picky about where I eat. Part of the reason lies with the fact that I can cook. REALLY cook. SO, if I choose to spend my hard earned money eating someone else's food, it has to be three things: 1. The proper temperature, 2. Appealingly plated and presented (we eat with our eyes) 3. Fresh in every aspect. Fear not gentle reader, the Chop Block Grill serves up,all three, with side dishes of hospitality, GREAT service, and attention to detail. I always feel dismayed when I have to ask for the rudimentary things of dining. Please, don't make me ask for silverware, a refill for my drink, napkins, or condiments that automatically come with most items that you would expect them to. But I digress.... let's talk about the food. If you do nothing else in this life before you die, please please please take yourself to an early heaven and have a cup or a bowl of their clam chowder. Most places that serve clam chowder either have it too thick or too runny, but the first spoonful told me the chef knew exactly what he was doing. They actually make two different batches from time to time, I can't tell you which one I like better although I do lean more toward the original one, although both are spectacular. Lunchtime offers some amazing prices for the money and I always go for the fried shrimp plate. I would love to tell you that I have tried their amazing salad bar which is stocked with far more things than you would expect for the more than reasonable price of nine dollars, but for some reason I just cannot get past their fried shrimp at lunch. Chef dredges big beautiful Argentine shrimp in fresh beer batter ( each serving to order) cooks them to crispy tender perfection, and serves them them piping hot with a slamming side of rosemary fries and crispy crunch coleslaw. We enjoyed dinner there Friday night, and I opted for the cut to order ribeye. They offer specific sizes on the menu, but just ask if you want something a little larger or a little smaller as they cut every steak to order. Imagine that. I tend to eat more simply in the evening only because of the calorie and fat factor, but I couldn't pass up this beautiful steak. It was chargrilled to perfection. I know medium rare and this was spot on. Had that nice Pittsburgh char outside, and the flavor was amazing. It was like a party in my mouth I tell you. I had broccoli as a side and they seasoned it beautifully with garlic butter, and then a baked potato which was perfectly piping hot, and served loaded on the side which is my way of being able to make it exactly as I care to. I love that. In closing, lest I write a food novel here, I want to say that the ambience, the service, and the food, comes together and gives you something that is hard to find these days. Dining. Real dining. Nobody tries to rush you out, nobody makes you beg for things that weren't given to you in the first place that should've been. Last but not least, I must say one word. Bathrooms. I have always said that you can tell the condition of a kitchen by the way the restrooms are kept. The thing that I really love about this restaurant is that they have two separate bathrooms both gender non-specific. Gone are the days where the women's room is full and you're wondering if you should dare walk into the men's room because you really just need to get back to your hot food. Superduper clean. Well stocked. Eventually they are going to have to have larger trash cans I can tell because the sheer volume of people is going to necessitate that LOL. The sign on the mirror said "Employees Must Wash Hands", but I decided to wash my own hands rather than wait for an employee, as I was in a hurry to get back to my awesome meal. Another nice feature was that each table had its own hand sanitizer. We were seated quickly with friendly service. Our waitress Grace, was prompt and very friendly. The place was nicely decorated for the holiday season. We ordered the angus burger and they were very good, cooked to perfection. This place is great! the service and food is top shelf. Jamie is our preferred server and she is excellent. She's not intrusive, and checks in at the right times. You would be hard pressed to find higher quality food at any price. On Tuesday, the lunch special is a half pound hamburger with fries and a drink for $7. It is the best hamburger I've had and they cook it exactly how I like it. The french onion soup is awesome too. The word is out, so for dinner you'll need a reservation. read more

My husband and I have been talking about going here for awhile but we are very particular, especially about steak, and tend to stick with our tried and true Green Door in Dade City. Well we went to CBG last night for our anniversary and we were shocked at how good it was. We weren't sure what to expect from a little strip mall store front and while the ambience inside could use a little work, the food was incredible. This is now the second place that I will order steak. The prime ribeye was properly cooked rare so it almost had the texture of a filet. The Cuban egg rolls were excellent, and even the Carbonara pasta dish my husband got was perfectly well balanced. I'm also a French onion soup connoisseur and it was perfect. I usually have to add salt because many places make it very bland but this one was awesome. The beer and wine list weren't super expansive but the Pinot noir we got (it was the only one) was a very good bottle. We would have loved to try dessert but we barely ate half our meals we were so full! Our waitress was very attentive and she apologized in advance for being short staffed in the front of the house but i didn't feel like service was affected at all. For a Tuesday night there was a steady stream of guests coming in, so it seems like everyone else already knows the secret!! I would highly recommend this local hidden gem for your next night out! We'll be back soon, but I'm still full from last night!
