Living in the Chicago suburbs means we're spoiled with dining options, but Chop Shop Primehouse easily ranks among my top picks. It can be a little tricky to find, yet the reward is absolutely worth the journey. This is a small, intimate, uniquely designed steakhouse--zebra rug in the entry, artwork hung between booths for privacy, a cozy 10‑seat bar, thoughtful touches in the restrooms, and a staff that's as friendly as they are knowledgeable. Every detail feels intentional. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, you're taken care of by some of the best hospitality professionals around. A special shout‑out to Julianna, who handled our meal on this visit as well as the last--pleasant, kind, courteous, organized, deeply knowledgeable, and simply excellent at what she does. Now, the meal. I started with a Chopshop Old Fashioned made with Buffalo Trace bourbon, crafted by a skilled mixologist using a large square ice cube stamped with the restaurant's logo. One of the best Old Fashioneds I've had. Next came the Iceberg Salad--Danish blue cheese, confit tomato, lardon, and a soft egg, all resting on a blanket of blue cheese dressing. Unbelievably delicious, and easily enough for two. For my entrée, I ordered the Bakkafrost Scottish Salmon from the Faroe Islands (look it up--tucked between Iceland, Scotland, and Norway). It arrived glazed with bourbon apricot, paired with shallot gastrique, parsnip purée, spicy pecans, pork belly, and multicolored mini carrots. Every bite was a layered, balanced taste sensation. The sweetness of the salmon and glaze, combined with a touch of gastrique and parsnip purée, created pure gastronomic bliss. My date ordered the Meatloaf Wellington, made with house‑ground filet, puff pastry, duxelles, prosciutto, mashed potatoes, and bordelaise. You say meatloaf--I say filet. Absolutely delicious. If you haven't been, take the drive. You won't be disappointed.

If I could rate this place out of 10 it would be a 9. Out of 5 it's if a 5. To start, the steaks are AMAZING! If you're looking for an incredible steak. Get the delmonico. Hands down. Our table got the tommahawk and the delmonico is better. The beef tallow fries and our loaded baked potato and brussel sprouts were the best of the sides we ordered. Mashed potatoes were just meh. On the dessert side, only desert that's worth it is the carrot cake and it's excellent! Service was FANTASTIC!! Our waitress was so nice and professional. The only thing that docked this place was the ambiance. It was a little strange. Kinda a bunch of various art styles. Overall we will 100% be back

This is a classic case of don't judge a book by its cover. The outside is nothing like the magical interior. The service and food are amazing. We love coming here with friends and seeing their reaction. This is the 1st time here that I didn't order a steak and it was delicious. Please take the time to try. It is worth every penny.

    Amazing bourbon selection

Visiting the area, decided to The Chop House and it was an amazing experience!!! From the minute you walk in the unique ambience will grab your attention. The service was absolutely incredible. Both the waitress and Bartender were just the best. They were both so friendly, knowledgeable and just made the experience so great. The bartender is a true mixologist. We had the steak (fantastic) and Brussels (best ever)! We will be back again for sure!!

This was our first time at Chop Shop Prime House, and it definitely won't be our last. What a truly enjoyable experience to go along with a great meal. Everything was delicious and perfectly prepared. Our server was excellent. The cocktails were awesome. And thank you for finding an additive free tequila for my tequila old fashioned. Check out my pics of the interior... What a great vibe! It's hidden in the back of a boat storage place, near LoLo's. We were there in a snowstorm in the dark, and it was a little hard to find lol.

Bread service with cool lit center.

Little hard to find the restaurant. Ambience was dim yet elegant and romantic. We were seated at the bar as our reserved table was not available on time. Bartender was on point and drinks were good but on high side of cost. Took about 10 minutes to be seated at our table but sitting at the bar was nice too. Server was friendly but food seemed to take a big longer than expected. The place is pricey but likely can get those prices due to location and tourists. For the price the food was really good but it would not bring us back.

We were staying in Holland State Park with our RV, beachside when we researched places to have a good steak dinner. The Chop Shop came up as one of the two options. Since this location was literally down the road from where we were staying, we chose it. The moment you walk through their doors, the atmosphere was very intimate and welcoming . The hostess met with us immediately and promptly took us to our table. Soon after we were greeted by a cheerful server who explained the menu completely. The only issue we had with this place was their location. Our GPS took us to the Harbor they were situated in, but finding them from there was a little challenging.

Chop Shop Prime House is the fresh soul that now animates the body left behind by The Breakfast Joint. Same space, but totally new vibe. Chop Shop is owned and operated by the same folks behind Lolo's and Itty Bitty Bar. And given Bitty's tag as a five star dive bar, Chop Shop follows the same quirky suit. Who's Chop Shop for? It's for the eater who's jonesing for a Ruth's Chris steak and a cocktail, but wants to go straight from the beach, sunburned and still in their sand covered Jimmy Buffet flip flops (you can't do that at Ruth's Chris). Interior is swanky and industrial and cozy and casual all at once. Filets, strip steaks, and tomahawks are the stars here. I had the 16-oz Kansas City strip. Steak was thick and juicy and fired perfectly to mid rare. Added the manchego frites--hand cut potatoes with the skin still on, then fried, sprinkled with the 'chego, and served with a tasty aoli you'll want to drag each frite through. I paid through the nose, so this'll be for only the "specialest" of occasions, but the meal was nice. All sides are a la carte. Prices are what they are. It's a splurge to eat here. Leave the kids home. Better for intimate dinners than large groups. But, you can come as you are, bar tenders and servers are friendly, and they care about making sure you enjoy your visit. Support local! :-D

Our waitress was really nice and overall service was quick. We ordered the Lemon Chicken and the Wedge Salad. The reason why I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars is mainly because of the chicken dish. I was expecting it to be more citrusy, but I feel like whatever lemon flavor it was meant to have was lost by some sort of sweetness. I think the Meyer lemon butter made the dish was so oddly sweet it mixed in with the rice underneath. Overall, this dish was sadly disappointing since we were looking forward to something savory and herby but got what felt like a sugar bomb for chicken. The salad was good and loaded with toppings, however, I felt like there was way too much dressing that drowned the salad once it was all mixed. If possible, I would get the dressing on the side. All in all, great ambiance, good service and a wonderful location. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong things. Still worth checking out, if you're in the area!

We had to go around the block multiple times before we found a space behind the parking lot behind the restaurant. When we got into the restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night. There was a short waiting list that moved pretty quickly. The main reasons for going there was to try their James Beard award winning Trumpet burger. I also ordered an amber ale that was pretty good. It was good but coming from Chicago there are several burgers that I feel are better. Places like Au Chaval & Little Bad Wolf to name a few. My wife ordered a Mediterranean style pizza. Again coming from Chicago the pizza was very average. How can you compare this to Pequods or Lou Malnati? Hops draws a large crowd and really packs the people in. They have a good lively crowd w/a nice selection of food & beers. It was an enjoyable meal in a very crowd friendly. As someone with celiac disease, eating out can be stressful, but when I informed our server, he immediately reassured me that they take cross-contamination seriously and ensure a safe meal. While they do offer outdoor dining, we opted to sit inside, and the service and food were fantastic from start to finish. To drink, I started with the kiwi pineapple margarita--they offer multiple types of rims, and I went with sugar, which was delicious. The summer sangria also sounded amazing, but I stuck with the margarita since it was guaranteed gluten-free. For food, we shared the ricotta with gluten-free toast, and for my main, I had the Beyond Burger on a gluten-free bun with a side of chips that were confirmed to be safely gluten-free. Finding a place that is this accommodating, knowledgeable, and delicious is rare, and it made our trip so much better!
