I didn't really know what to expect but for starters, they had pretty decent security in front and cool lights with a disco ball (ooo). There were different spots to hang depending on your vibes whether the side room, bar, tables or the dance floor. It got pretty packed and there was one big fan in front but we couldn't feel it on the side so it was muggy. Drinks were very light but thankfully we got a drink ticket. The food is reasonably priced, large portions, and made in house. I got the daily special, a chicken fried steak with mashed potato's and gravy. The gravy was seasoned well, MEATY, and complemented both the steak and potatoes. The chicken fried steak was thick, tender, and complemented with a crunchy crust! The mashed potato's were spot on! I would never come back here. Came for a free entry before 10pm event and was in line at 930. Didn't even start letting people in until 9:50, then when the deadline passed, told people in line who had ALREADY BOUGHT GUARANTEED ENTRY TICKETS that it was now an additional 20 bucks just to get in. So now almost 40 bucks a ticket. One of the security guys was constantly letting friends and women who came up to him he thought were pretty cut the line, which was around the block. Asked another security guy about how to buy a ticket for someone coming later since now my digital ticket was invalid, he said to tell the cashier I was prepaying a ticket. Told the cashier I was prepaying a ticket, as he told me, and then she yelled at me and scolded me for asking, rolled her eyes when I told her that's literally what I was told to do. The only good thing is the bartender poured strong drinks, but plenty of other venues in Seattle have good bartenders. read more

So I came here with my partner and his friends a while back for LGBTQ celebrations. It was incredibly hot and crowded as it's such a small place. Most people were nice there, just couldn't last long in there. I had a panic attack from all the bodies there. We all left pretty early just from being tired out and irritated. Went here for an ABBA x Fleetwood Mac Halloween Disco night and it was fun! The place itself is so interesting and there are a lot of things to look at. I loved the photo booth even though it was $9.50 for 6 photos I also like that they have a "zen den" to cool off in and get away from the crowd if you need a break. read more

I went this past Friday since I booked a ticket and have been wanting to try this place out for the entire two years that I've been in Seattle. The DJ/music was amazing-- house mixes. Younger crowd with lots of energy, and super versatile with the space: Bartop adjacent to dance floor with ample seating and staging and lounge space with bar. I'd recommend once they get a better security team. A large heavy set male security personnel guarding the rest room however had a chip on his shoulder that he definitely needs to eat. He tried to provoke a fight with me for asking another female security staff member if I had done something wrong because the large male was looming around me and watching my every move as after I went to pee and briefly explored the space. It was my first time there so I was looking around at the art and stuff. It gets one star due to his lack of workplace professionalism and inability to do his job effective outside of being the "muscle" due to his size. Far cry. Anyway, As far as vigilance, I can understand his stance of watching me (a single person in a club alone amongst other people). I've worked security in larger clubs before so I get where he was coming from, HOWEVER, for him to rush me, jab his finger into my collar bone in attempt to provoke me and literally threaten me with continued violence was impeccably childish. I guess he wanted to validate his anger at me voicing that his presence didn't make me feel safe or welcome. It is ridiculous that a grown man of his size thinks intimidation is on his side. Had I not been sober, my reflex to his hostility and physical hit would have been to left hook him square in the chin, but that would have started a fight and security would have more than likely used excessive force as illustrated by their apparent taste for control in this space cited by previous reviews. Ownership of this space should do better and he should definitely be removed from this job because he doesn't know how to conduct himself and regulate or control his emotions as a security staff member for a night club. In a nutshell, Believe the other reviews and do not waste your time or money going to this place-- it's a cool spot but not at all welcoming or safe so definitely not worth it. read more

I went with my best friends last Friday for Candi Pop and the music sucked. This was my first time clubbing in Seattle and this club cemented why I don't go clubbing in the area. I understand that it was Girl Pop night, but why was the DJ playing A Thousand Years? Like who gets down to that song at the club? It was just such a strange mix of music and the transitions were terrible, there was no matching of beats or vibes between one song and the next. I also was expecting them to play more 2000s or 2010s pop like Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus or Run Away With Me by Carly Rae Jepson. Instead, we were getting songs like Flowers and Greedy that came out in the last year. I loved the girls giving out free cotton candy and balloons, I think that made for a pretty awesome vibe. And the decorations and ambience was top tier. Mindy, the bartender was super sweet and helped me find mocktails that I would love because I was the designated driver for the night. Honestly, this is the second time I've ever paid cover to get into a club, and it wasn't worth it. I've gotten into clubs with incredible music and free drinks at no cost, so I don't think this experience measured up at all. read more

If you are lucky enough to see a show there you will enjoy the intimate setting and unique decor. The bathrooms still have a lot left to be desired but thats pretty typical too. read more

Fire the blonde woman checking people in, she gives major attitude to customers for no reason and she loved beating my arm with the stamp taking out her revenge on me after she tried to make me pay to get in. Visited for the first time with 2 friends (who were also new to this venue) specifically for Candipop Friday night on 3/4/22. If you get there early (and have a car with a good alarm system!!!!!) you can park in the small lot with Bank of America. You'll have to pay before 8pm (on a Friday) but it's worth it being so close. We walked up at 8:57pm to get in line and there was no one outside yet so we waited at the Madison Pub next door for 45 minutes. When we got out of there the line was around the building and down the block. The wait was worth it. We paid our $12 cash cover. Thru the night we only bought lemon drop shots & White Claws. The shots weren't great & were about $10 each, but we didn't come for quality drinks. Used the coat check for $3 each then the photo booth which was a fun feature. The music was definitely as advertised, all girly pop music and the crowd was all about it. Giant blow up unicorn on stage next to the DJ. Me and my friends did not have to deal with any touchy men or other general, sexual creepiness and that's what we were hoping for with the girl pop theme. The staff treated us well, but I'll acknowledge we 3 are your basic femme presenting, white-passing, average height, young folk. Very LGBTQ+ friendly crowd while we were there, and generally did not deal with any grumpy people or rudeness. The crowd was elbow to elbow, but I don't ever recall being pushed around. Later in the night they gave out fun pink balloons with swear words on them if you could show that you follow them on Instagram. I had my purse across my body, zipped closed, and tried to make sure the bag was in front of my body with my hand on it all night. I was being hella diligent but still realized on the dance floor at one point that it was zipped open and my wallet was gone. It did not fall out. I turned on my phone flashlight right away and retraced all the steps I had taken throughout the night. When we asked the bar if they found one, they pulled one out--but it wasn't mine‍ Pickpocketed. I was able to lock my cards using my bank app right on the dance floor. They tried to use the card in Arlington the next morning. I will be investing in a better clubbing bag. The next morning I returned to get my car & saw a dude covering his whole head taking a license plate off a car, meanwhile a bunch of folks were lined up for some $5 vegan donuts right across the street. The juxtaposition would shock someone who isn't used to it. All in all, crime in Seattle is just bad right now. I will be coming back for another Candipop night :) Don't come here if you don't have street smarts, please. read more

I recently went to chop suey for a ABBA and Fleetwood Mac themed night. I bought tickets ahead of time, when we arrived there was a line with a 15 minute wait. I asked if there was a separate line for people who already had tickets and he said no you still have to wait with people who hadn't. That's annoying. Than when we finally get inside I go to the bar to get us drinks while my friend checks our coats. I got two Moscow mules and a spicy margarita. She said she can't do a spicy margarita but can do a regular one and I say that's fine. I've been a bartender for three years I watch this lady make the drinks. She fills all three drinks up almost completely with lime juice FIRST and then proceeds to pour vodka in the mules and tequila in the margaritas. Not even a drop of ginger beer was put in the Moscow mules, and all the alcohol is at the top of the drink. I paid $46 for the drinks since the moscows were doubles and I didn't tip her. She sees this and starts cussing me out and yelling that she is seven months pregnant and then tells me I'm cut off. So unprofessional and unhinged. read more

We have been coming here for shows and dance parties since the place opened. We are coming back for a show this weekend. It's a fun venue for emerging bands and we have seen some awesome shows here. However: There is a platform in the back bar with a small fireplace on it. The interior designer used old railroad ties to make the platform. The back bar now reeks of creosote, the smell of which even leaks out into the main bar. The creosote smell will flavor anything you drink or eat and maybe even give you a headache. Stay out of the back bar entirely. read more

Most important reason I'm giving it one-star: I'm pretty sure that a friend and I were drugged here during a "Dance Yourself Clean" night. That isn't necessarily the fault of the establishment, but clearly it's place where some people feel like they're able to successfully drug people's drinks. Please be careful. Last year, Chop Suey closed down for a couple months before reopening under new ownership. I hadn't been here in a number of years for a show until last week when I came here for a Yuna concert. From what I can see, there haven't been any significant changes to this venue. It looks basically the same since reopening. Though they have added a food bar called The Escondite offering drinking food like burgers and sandwiches. The ventilation which I wrote previously about being horrible isn't much better. The venue is quite warm so if the place is packed for a show, expect to sweat a bit. Though it wasn't like watching a concert in a sauna like a previous show I saw here when there was 90 degree weather outside. The stage here is pretty compact. Similar in size to the ones at Barboza and The Crocodile. As for the Yuna show itself, it was fine. Doors opened at 8 pm, but Yuna didn't start her set until after 10 pm due to a couple supporting act sets. If you see a show here, expect it to end around midnight. Since it was a sold out show, the place was packed. Very little room to move about in this venue. Expect your personal space to be violated a few times. If you are looking for a good place to watch the show from, I would recommend the left side of the venue or at the bar seating area facing the stage. I wouldn't recommend standing by the wall next to the bar like I did. There was a constant stream of concertgoers walking about in this area headed for the restrooms in back it seems. I am not a huge fan of this venue. Prefer theater music venues like the Neptune and Paramount over club spots. But if one of my favorite artists holds a show here, I would consider going. read more

It was my first time at this venue. I loved the bar with all the windows and the decor inside. Just random couches and chairs placed nicely, it worked well with the venue! It was a decent sized venue, not small but not that big. The floor was separated from the bar, there were couches you can sit on. All in all a nice place for a show. I love industrial type venues with pipes along the ceiling. The sound was great, the security was great, everyone was kind and I had no issues. Easy access to the bar and there's a kitchen for burgers and fries right in front of you. There's plenty of parking and parking garages around the venue. I'll definitely be back for future shows! read more

The only redeeming quality about this place is that there were other Swiftyyyys there on Swift fest night. Staff was rude, building is old and ugly, and drinks are over priced. They refused to let my friend in because she had an empty can with her that she was trying to find a trashcan for. They literally would not let her in, saying that she tried to bring it into the building. When she literally wasn't. She was trying to find a trashcan. They wouldn't let her toss it. (She was not trying nor did she want to bring it inside!!) Security was just a bunch of overweight men who were on a power trip. (Not to mention we stood there for a couple of minutes while they just scrolled on their phones, completely ignoring the line when it was still extremely empty inside) Totally ruined my friend's birthday night. If you can avoid this place, please do so. There are other places in Seattle that have Taylor Swift themed nights. read more

The bartender in the front bar was so sweet and amazing. My friend and I went for one of the theme nights, but one of the security guards was out of line. We showed and there was no line my friend gets in just fine. I went after, and the bigger security guard was checking my bag and he said I wasn't allowed to bring my pre roll in? I hadn't checked the website but I thought it was odd considering I've never been told I wasn't allowed to have it before. He said I could leave it in my car but we had taken transit and since he was security I didn't argue with him. He then said he would have to "dispose of it" and pointed to a small metal trash can on the ground. Nothing was in the bin so I shrugged and gave it willingly not thing much, once I get in though my friend through it was weird. After our drink we left and walked out the same door and we both looked in the bin because I was going to ask for it back because we weren't coming back, and it wasn't there and we even asked and he said he "disposed of it." I checked the website this morning no where does it say I'm not allowed to have it. Seeing how many other people have had much worse encounters I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

I love this place for 90s night on Friday! There is good music and vibes. That night, they had Mean Girls playing on the projector and balloons with "so fetch" on them. I loved the decorations! There is a lounge area that had plenty of seats for me to chat with my friends when the dance floor got too hot. Would totally recommend! read more

I went to this bad for "emo night". I drove an hour and paid 50) for parking downtown seattle. I tried to purchase tickets online and it said my card was declined even though I had just got paid. so I decided to make the trip out. When I got there with my friends who had already bought tickets, the bouncer was extremely rude and cocky. They said I could not purchase tickets at the time and to wait an hour and a half. I waited in the cold for an hour and a half for them to tell me that they were not allowing people without previously purchased tickets, inside. This is specifically for the House Party event and all of the staff for the night. Growing up I always envisioned a place where I could hear some of my favorite house songs and has a fusion of hip-hop. The Dj plays a mix of Kaytranda, Dr.Fresch and old school hip-hop. Definitely a unique crowd. Everyone is dressed in a way that stands as their own individual aesthetic but honestly, with Seattle's generic club scene it's incredibly refreshing. It doesn't feel like a club in the sense that everyone is actually dancing and intoxicated just enough to have a good time. I have had one account where I had to get aggressive towards a drunk guy that would not leave my friend alone. One of the bouncers noticed and came to check on us which is UNHEARD OF. I have not seen him working there since but their head of security, Gabe, is so kind and easy to work with. I would feel comfortable coming to him about any kind of issue I have. Overall, House Party at Chop Suey makes Mondays suck less. It is always full, has two bars with professional and friendly bartenders and incredibly chill, fun, atmosphere.
