This was our first visit to Fat Fish, right nextdoor to bucket O crab; it definitely made a great first impression. The restaurant has a fun, welcoming atmosphere with a lively energy, yet it's still comfortable enough to enjoy a relaxed meal. The service was excellent--our server was friendly, attentive, and happy to offer recommendations when we couldn't decide what to order. We started with the pan-fried gyoza, which had a perfectly crisp sear and came with a delicious spicy ginger dipping sauce. It was a unique sauce that paired wonderfully with every bite. We we knew we wanted one of our usuals the Playboy roll but then asked for a recommendation our server recommended the Kamikaze roll, and we're so glad we took her advice. Both rolls were beautifully presented, incredibly fresh, and packed with flavor. The Kamikaze was served with a cilantro-lime sauce that added a bright, refreshing finish and really made the roll stand out. The spicy edamame was another standout. I'm not exactly sure what was in the sauce, but it had the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Fair warning, though--when they say spicy, they mean it! It definitely brought the heat, but the flavor was so good we couldn't stop eating it. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the overall quality of the meal made it feel like a great value. Between the welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, and excellent food, Fat Fish earned a spot on our list of places to return to. Fat Fish Sushi continues to be a favorite of mine after more than 12 years of coming here. The new all-you-can-eat option Monday through Thursday is such a great addition, and I'm honestly impressed that the quality hasn't gone down at all. The fish is still fresh, the rolls are well made, and everything tastes just as good as it always has. Consistency like that over so many years is hard to find. The staff is friendly, the service is solid, and it's still a place I'm excited to come back to again and again. When searching for sushi in town I've had a fair number of recommendations for Fat Fish specifically. The sushi here is decent and they offer a fair variety for rolls. I was able to try a number of different menu items and enjoyed a lot of the menu items. The service was reasonable despite the resultant being pretty busy, and the staff members were pleasant to speak to. Over all the inside of the restaurant was also clean and organized with art and design elements. The only real things that kept them from getting 5 stars, were that the benches were wet when we sat down, and slower drink refills. The menu is pretty hard to navigate if you can't eat shrimp/shellfish, and they rely heavily on crab and shrimp for most their rolls, more than most. read more

Came here for All-You-Can-Eat Sushi starting at 5pm with a larger group. We made reservations for 12 people just in case and were told accommodations could be made. It wasn't until we sat down and ordered our drinks when the staff told us that they have a rule where they cannot let parties of 8 or more do AYCE. This was not disclosed to us when we made the reservation, when we had a confirmation call, also nowhere to be found on the website. We then asked our nice server if we could separate tables since the restaurant was pretty empty and she said "I don't see why not, but let me ask my manager". The manager then approached us and told us that if we wanted to separate our party we would have to sit on opposite sides of the establishment and "you cannot get up and talk to each other". We informed him that we would be on separate group ticket and would not share food, but he became rude and unaccommodating . The staff seemed really friendly, but the manager was very unhelpful and disrespectful. We ended up eating at a different restaurant because of this. read more

About 2 years ago, we came here on a whim. The sunset roll was amazing with the sour of the lemon and sweet of the sugar. The rest of the rolls were just ok, but given sushi in Utah is highly commercialized, this hit the sushi spot. Rolls made ok, tighter than other restaurants in Utah, and tasted fresh enough. Fish wasn't smelly which is a good sign but a bit chewy, so likely has been frozen. Because of this Nigiri roll, wasn't as flavorful. Rice was white rice, not sushi rice but I've yet to see true sushi rice in Utah. Would come back for the sunset roll read more

The food is a amazing. I have been a regular for 5 years. There are so many servers that I adore and ask for every time!! Dylan, Fabi and Yuri are my go tos!!!! They get the order right, serve food quick and aim to please!! The floor manager is Kendra so sweet and is always checking in. Now the best sushi maker there is Nerfyre. I love these people and the food.!! All there service is amazing EXCEPT FOR THE MANAGER HERNAN!!! HE is going to run this business into the ground. He is taking away menu options. Shortened the all you can eat. And is a nazi control freak with the all you can eat that you have lick the plate or bowl clean or he charges you full. Fucking ridiculous. Fat Fish is a very cute restaurant snuggled just off 3300 S. It has a nice and compact layout. Well placed decor and lots of windows that bring natural light into the restaurant. Its seating is kind of tight, so it can be a little noisy depending on the time. Maybe it's an aesthetic, but I noticed that the booth seats are a little worn and scuffed. Another patron shuffled in their seat and it moved my seat. This place does have hand rolls, though they are a little on the pricier side for what you get. Hand rolls are slightly flavorless here. It's the lack of wasabi that is usually pre-rolled into the hand roll and the Fat Fish sushi chefs added needless garnish. Good plating is important but not at the expense of flavour! Their rolls are priced in mostly three tiers. I chose a mid tier. The Samurai is basically a California roll with a thin piece of Salmon as a hat. Disappointing and I felt cheated. The Salmon was supposed to be lightly seared per the menu description. It isn't. A very forgettable roll. The Pho was good. Broth was clear with a noticeable herb infusion. Not hearty enough for me, but I know some people prefer the lighter soup base. I'll recommend it. They had a good selection of Pho, so I'll be back to try their other variations. This is a nice place for a warm Pho in the cold seasons, in a cute space. Their sushi offerings aren't on point and can be pricey. read more

The sushi has come a long way and they even have some hidden special rolls (such as the Dragon or Vampire). The P2 Pho is pretty good here too with a good balance of flavors and broth. However, we were really disappointed this time and I am sorry to say that because it's used to be a place that we really liked. We started with the edamame and the jalapeño bomb. These were fine. Not crazy amazing, just fine. Our group ordered a number of different types of rolls to share and none of them were phenomenal. In fact, everything was just okay. There didn't seem to be very much fish or shrimp or other ingredients included in the rolls. The rice was kind of dry, and they weren't rolled very well. The sauce was not great, and there could've been more of it. Overall, it was just... Disappointing. Server made all the appropriate notes for the kitchen) with tempura shrimp and I unfortunately noticed after taking the first bite. My husband and I told my son that he could choose where he wanted to eat for his 10th birthday and Fat Fish is where we ended up and what a good decision that was. We arrived at Fat Fish around 5:15 on a Sunday evening, with a party of 13, and it wasn't too busy that they were able to get us seated quickly. Only eight of us were already there and we were waiting on the stragglers, so it was very nice that they were able to seat us. Once seated we met our waiter Merwin and he was absolutely fantastic! My mom is a picky eater and Merwin was kind enough to bring her a bit of the Pho broth to taste to ensure that it would be something she would enjoy. Merwin was also great in providing suggestions on what sushi rolls to order. I completely spaced taking pictures of the beautiful rolls, but some of the rolls that our party ordered were the playboy, Vegas roll, mojo, Red Violin Roll, dragon warrior, Venus, and a few more. Of all the rolls I tried I don't think there was one that I didn't like as they were all delicious! My mom even enjoyed her Pho.
