I guess I should have known we were in trouble there, since there doesn't seem to be anyone of Chinese origin that works there. The egg drop soup was clear, gelatinous, and bland, the chow mein ... didn't look or taste like chow mein, and my shrimp & veg dish in white sauce was bland. We needed revenge, so we tried China Fun. Mums dispatched me to pick up an order of egg drop soup first, so I could bring it home for a taste test. If it passed, we'd order entrees, and I'd go back. It passed! It was the right color (yellow), and it actually smelled and tasted of eggs! We decided to commit and order dinner -- Fried Shrimp appetizer, Orange Chicken Combo, and Hunan Triple Crown. The fried shrimp was good, and I enjoyed the Human Triple Crown, although the "lobster" looked more like a fat crab stick. I'll let it pass. The sauce was good and the dish was flavorful. The shrimp and scallops were fine, and there was enough mixed vegetables to balance it all out. Mums enjoyed her orange chicken. The egg roll with her combo was a little lackluster -- thin and small -- but the interior was far superior to Nim's, which had been an unappetizing grey colored mess of cabbage. We're not going to try to compare China Fun to the best Chinese restaurants on the planet. But for Milton, it's pretty darned good. My mother likes that it is family owned, and we appreciate the friendly staff, and authentic food. I have read reviews here that say that China Fun is misleading people by saying it is "dine in". They're not misleading you; there are nice, tablecloth covered tables and chairs inside. But it isn't a *restaurant*. You go up to the counter and put in your order (or call it in), and from there, you can take it to a table if you like, or go elsewhere. I love these kinds of places! I had visited their website an hour before I went, to check their prices. They have Kung Pao Chicken listed for $7.95 on their website. The Shrimp Fried Rice lists for $6.50. Mongolian Beef lists for $7.95. Sweet & Sour Chicken lists for $4.95. These are NOT lunch specials. Egg rolls list for $2.50 per order. Beef Lo Mein lists for $4.95 on their website. But when I got to the actual restaurant, everything was $11 to $12. They deceive their customers, luring you in with false prices, and then gouge you when you get there! That is very unethical and shady. I purchased the following items: 2 orders egg rolls 1 Mongolian Beef 1 Kung Paul Chicken 1 Beef Lo Mein 1 Sweet & Sour Chicken 1 Shrimp Fried Rice I had told the woman at the cash register that I wanted "small" for the Mongolian beef, but she gave me large anyway. Then again I said "small" for the Kung Pao Chicken, but she said it only comes in large. I did order a large Shrimp Friend Rice, but that was the only item I wanted to be large size. She maxed everything out to charge me the maximum price. That insult, on top of the shameful fact that they lied big time about their prices on their website--it couldn't be more obvious that they are greedy and took advantage of me financially as a new customer. I waited for about 20 minutes in the waiting area by the front door for my order to go. I was born in 1967 in Chicago and lived there for 37 years, so I know great food. Here is my honest rating for the following items (0 being the worst and 10 the best) at House of Chong: 2 orders egg rolls = 0 (they use a flour breading, not egg roll wraps) 1 Mongolian Beef = 7 (average, not spectacular) 1 Kung Paul Chicken = 7 (average, not spectacular) 1 Beef Lo Mein = 4 (flavorless, not good) 1 Sweet & Sour Chicken = 0 (just terrible, awful) 1 Shrimp Fried Rice = 9 (the only thing I really enjoyed) For those 6 items they charged me $68. Going by their website menu pricing, my total bill should have been about $41 including the tax. The cashier asked if I wanted the credit card receipt and I declined, but she never gave me the actual receipt, which is separate. Now I see why, she ripped me off!
