Well I finally had a chance to try this out. Last visit the wait went hour and a half. This joint is always packed so prepare to be patient. I was tossed on country fried steak since all the write ups were basically on this but chose the corn beef. It was good. Large freshly made pieces. The atmosphere was cool and prices reasonable. My expectations were high because of the large traffic of patrons. Unfortunately it was only a good experience nothing to brag about. Maybe next time I'll try the country fried steak which had great reviews from other Yelpers. This isn't a bad place to try out though for something different so give it a shot. read more

If you know your restaurant, you tell customers, hey it's going to be an hour and let the customer decide if they can wait that long. Don't string the customers along without respecting their time. Wow, just my French Toast ISO would be a perfect 5 out of 5, just in a category of its own. But, there is still some room for the whole establishment to improve with. But, my French Toast- Special of the day with Chocolate Ganache, blueberries and blackberries and a really tasty homemade cream. THe Bread was house-made and was made to perfection. BEST FRENCH TOAST I HAVE EVER HAD. I couldn't stop talking about it all day, and I will probably continue to have dreams about the french toast in future weeks to come. It is very noteworthy. But, some thing that was not that noteworthy, was the coffee itself. It was pretty thin and watery, and not that pleasant to drink. While waiting we were entertained by what seemed to be an either disgruntled or hung over busser who was storming around the property, aggressively tossing left over water from guest glasses into the plants around the picnic bench seating outside, and throwing silverware around...food took about 45 minutes to get to us. Great little place for a delicious bite to eat. Showed up on a Friday morning around 10:00 AM for breakfast. We we're told it would be around a 45 minute wait for a table, we waited anyway. About 15 minutes later they were seating us! SCORE!! Coffee, food and service were all fabulous! The dining area was clean and neat. The house was packed and the noise level was not too bad. The bathrooms are totally cute and I suggest using them while you are there. (When a restaurant goes out of their way to completely decorate the whole interior, even the restrooms, I am impressed.) Outside the restaurant has a garden of their own they use to source a few of their ingredients and the exterior decor is also pretty eclectic and interesting. After the many rave reviews, and eyeing the place over the years, we finally made it to Chow. Parking in this part of town is plentiful. We arrived at 11am and the place was definitely in full swing. The crowd was fun and electric. It seemed like half the town was here this Saturday morning. The wait time we were told was 90 min. Actual wait was 42 min. As we were waiting for our table, we ordered a few Bloody Marys, grabbed a couple of coffees from the self-serve station, and convened onto front courtyard area and found a shady spot to hang. They had a musician out front who was fairly talented, but LOUD. It was hard to concentrate on the conversation at hand. Normally this wouldn't have been a problem, but I was reuniting with a dear friend and found it bothersome. They called our name, and we were sat at a table in the back patio, underneath an umbrella. The server was friendly, helpful and efficient. We let him know that we were vegan and he suggested numerous items to choose from. I ordered a second Bloody Mary and this one was noticeably weaker then first. For brunch, we choose a tofu scramble with potatoes, and Huevos Rancheros (vegainzed) with a side of blueberry pancakes. Everything was good, but didn't live up to the hype. Side note: I walked in on two different people while they were using the restroom. Both times the door was left ajar. WTF people? While in Bend for Brewfest, my wife found Chow on Yelp. She's doesn't use it much, so I was excited to see what she discovered. We arrived with a 45 minute wait. We agreed that we had nothing else to do for the time being, and that we would have a few drinks and wait for a seat. They have a small bar on the outside of the house where they whip up some OUTSTANDING drinks. I've been losing faith in Bloody Mary's lately....Chow has restored my faith. Talk about a flavorful, well thought out drink. Not only that, but I had a Kentucky Blue (Sorry if that was the incorrect name), but it was a mixed drink that had blueberries and bourbon. It was so, so good. We had a great, personable waitress who took care of us. She recommended a few different dishes per our request as well as drinks. She did a great job. Some of the best service we had while in Bend. On to the good part....The Food! We decided to get two different things since we couldn't make up our minds. I went with a Eggs Benedict with Smoked Brisket, topped in a Bleu Cheese Hollandaise. Holy Hell, such a Flavorful, well presented, wonderful dish. Each flavor stood out on it's own. Initially I could taste the bleu cheese hollandaise, but then the flavor of the BBQ came through, with the simple finish of yolk from the poached eggs. This was the special for the day, and I was more than happy with my selection. My wife ordered what I orginally wanted, the Chicken Fried Steak. I've had LOTS of Chicken Fried Steaks in my time, and this was HANDS DOWN the best I've encountered. Tender, flavorful, and also topped with a bleu cheese finish and carmelized onions. We really couldn't get over the fact of how fresh, and well pronounced the flavors were. It was absolutely brilliant! They have a crazy wait, for a damn good reason. We arrived before 9 am on a Sunday. It was sunny and cool out. They have coffee available for guests waiting outside--although we had to ask a couple of times for a refill of the thermos. We ended up ordering one basic plate of eggs and sausage with potatoes, and another dish which was the carnitas! The carnitas were a perfect portion. The pork was sweet yet savory. We also ordered their well-known Bloody Mary! My guy had a smoked bourbon version. They come with tons of veggies! Wow! One of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Definitely top three. I had the ala caesar and it was AMAZING. The corn cake with the sauces and the poached eggs will be something I have dreams about in the future. My husband loved his tostada eggs benedict as well. The grits were super delicious too. Looking at reviews and pictures for this place, I was just super giddy about coming here. The menu looked incredible, and I really expected to love Chow. I guess I just ordered the wrong things. After waiting about half an hour or so on a middle of the week afternoon, we were finally sat. I ordered a chilled cucumber lime mint soup and the huevos rancheros, the latter per Yelp's suggestions. The soup was terrible. I haven't had chilled soup in a long time, but was hoping to like this one... nope. As my girlfriend said, it tasted a bit like face wash. Definitely something I'd not have again. Thankfully, I wasn't charged for it. The huevos rancheros were okay, I guess. The yolk in the eggs was a little underdone though, and the flavor was a little "flat." The house made salsas made things a little better, but it couldn't quite save the dish. Just a disappointment. On the plus side, the biscuits and gravy here are excellent, so maybe I was just mislead and ordered the wrong thing. Our friend Cameron suggested Chow, since it's his favorite place. We had a group of 5 adults and two dogs, and arrived to find there was a wait, even though it was a Friday morning and not a weekend. After the short wait we were seated on the patio in the corner, perfect for the big dogs to be able to lay behind us. I went excited for breakfast but the lunchtime Crispy Crab Sandwich ($12) caught my eye and I had to have it. Also on our table were my husband's biscuits and gravy ($9), the Benedict special ($18) ,burger special ($12), Sampson ($14) and a salmon bagel ($6). Hot chocolate ($3.50 - the only item that I thought was ridiculously priced), a house infused bloody mary ($9) and 3 crater lake bloody marys ($8 ea). We have no idea why one of the Bloody Marys was more expensive, or which one it was. Our service was great through the entire meal (Brittany was our server but lots of other staff came and checked on us too); most impressive was the food. I loved every plate on the table. Yes, I took bites off of everyone's plate! It was all fresh tasting and crispy and well-cooked. My crab sandwich was a large portion and the crab was delicious. The potatoes served with the Samson were crisped and browned and perfectly seasoned. The gravy was creamy and the Hollandaise was light. The bloody marys were really good too with pickled veggies on top and inside. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Bend. Nice artwork and layout that is really well used. I ordered the bloody mary with their house infused pepper vodka. The top of the drink was layed out with pickled vegetables, unlike the typical olive/celery garnish. It was very attractive, and was so good. My entree was the chicken fried steak and eggs. It was breaded with a cornmeal crust, and topped with caramelized onions, bleu cheese crumbles, and chorizo gravy. Unbelievable! Gotta bump the folks here up from 4.5 for such a cozy and heartwarming brunch experience! The inside of CHOW is exactly like a home interior from the windows to the roaring fireplace in the back. My friend and I got our name down on the list and we were seated within ten minutes or so. The menu offers quite a variety from the usual suspects (omelettes, scrambles, benedicts, etc.) to more unique dishes like their take on Loco Moco. My Locavore omelette that included the day's freshest local meats and produce was very nicely done and the same went for my side salad (several in-house made dressings to choose from, my mustard-based vinaigrette was a hit). My dining companion's Chicken Fried Steak was easily the best of its kind yet and I dug the cornmeal crusted tomatoes on the side. To round the meal out, we were given three colorful bottles of hot sauce based on jalapenos, red chilis and habanero peppers. They announced the fact that their ingredients are based on local provider; not sure if that was the reason, but I felt in general good quality of ingredients throughout the dishes. There seems to be some concerns about the service quality. Mine was quite superb; very accommodating. One thing to note to our fellow reviewers; we can't (hence we shouldn't) expect the level of service quality that we get from dinner time for brunch time. How each table rotates, how brunch menus are prepared, how it's paired with drinks, how hungry the customers are, are all quite different during brunch time... In general, highly recommended. So glad I decided to come here for brunch during my trip to Bend! I'm sad it's so far away from me because I'd even daresay it's one of the best brunch places I've been to, and I used to live in SF, the brunch capital of the world :P Upon first glance, none of the dishes really seem particularly unique, but what makes Chow so memorable is that all their ingredients are local, fresh, and top-quality. It came with a generous side of three eggs, and he noted that the eggs were exceptionally delicious.. probably because they came fresh from local chickens. I tried his sweet potato wedges which were probably some of the best sweet potatoes I've ever had. Just perfectly roasted/crispy on the edges with the right amount of soft sweetness on the inside. I ordered a guava mimosa, which was delivered to me in a generously sized 16-oz mason jar. For $10, that's a steal! Restaurant is the perfect setting/design for brunch. I am writing this review minutes after finishing the best brunch I've had in a while. We waited less than ten minutes on a Monday and had delicious coffees to sip on seconds after being seated. Service was friendly and prompt, and our server was knowledgeable about the whole menu. And the space, so homey and comfortable! Loved all the funky artwork up on the walls and I felt like I was in someone's home, not a restaurant. The decor outside with their name made up of silverware is also brilliant. We ordered the eggs a la med with potatoes, the Caesar with herb crusted tomatoes, a side of bacon and a crab cake. The crispy polenta under my perfectly poached eggs was everything. The fried potatoes were crispy, not greasy at all, and the paprika gave it a nice smoky flavor. The house made carrot habanero sauce was my favorite to pour over eggs to eat with the creamy hollandaise. And the bacon-also perfection, not burnt but just close enough to make the thick slab crumble with every bite. Chow will be a must stop every time I visit Bend thanks to my experience today. Let's get the bad part out of the way - we were in Bend for the first time, on a mini-vacation, and we called ahead to see what the wait was. They said 20 minutes, so we headed on down (5 minutes from where we were staying), and ended up waiting another 40 minutes or so. Not a big deal in my mind, as I thought 20 minutes for a Saturday morning for a popular breakfast spot for a mid-sized group seemed optimistic at best, but some members of our party of 6 and an infant were miffed. In any case, this is a converted house - front yard is nice and green, and there was a fire pit with chairs around it and plenty of folks seated around it, waiting, enjoying both the sun and the fire. I went into the little patio in the front, where they've got the bar set up, and got myself a solid bloody (house infused spicy vodka). The interior was crammed full of tables and chairs, and there was definitely some dancing around to make it to our table and to our seats. While I don't know Bend well, the place struck me as stereotypical Bend. Lots of outdoorsy granola-ish folks in high end outdoor wear, a few hippie-ish folks, etc, all crammed into this converted house with eclectic, mismatched furniture, and local art on the walls, inspired by the Lebowski and 80s tennis stars. Food wise, I ordered the chicken fried steak with the red bean gravy, local eggs, and polenta. The portion was perfect - not the gigantic, diner style, but right sized. Mid-20s me might have complained the portion was too small, but for 30 something me, it was a good fit. Texture was perfect, and the red bean gravy was a nice change from the standard country style. Egg and polenta rounded out the plate nicely. They've got a rad collection of house hot sauces - a bright orange carrot habanero, a nice smoky ancho chile, and a light jalapeno cilantro. That carrot hab was interesting, and really packed a kick, but too spicy for me. The ancho was perfect for my tastes. Service was solid. A bit hard to communicate at times due to the small space and volume of everyone in there, but I had no complaints. some folks from our party wanted separate checks and didn't mention it till the end of the meal, and our server took care of it with no issues. I felt guilty as we probably ended up taking the table for another 5 minutes as he had to go and split the checks, but nothing in our servers demeanor suggested he was frazzled with a bunch of tourists.
