Nothing to do with COVID experience, they are clean and distancing is not an issue. The service lacked, they were busy and maybe they were short handed. The employee to customer ratio seemed off. We waited longer than the thirty minutes they originally said and sat at our table for 15 minutes before someone came to take our order. They forgot our pancakes then there was no real communication between the server and us. He didn't ask if we still wanted them just gave us a free drink. We don't go out to get free drinks. Not worth the wait... my husband and I visited from out of town and saw that this place had high reviews. Went on a Sunday morning in December around 11AM. We were told the wait would be 35 minutes. We noticed that there was a side area with the bar. We figured we would wait in there and order a drink since it was too cold to wait outside. We assumed we could order something while we waited but no one was working behind the bar. Servers would frantically come in periodically to make drinks and leave again. I noticed that they used Crater Lake Vodka for their bloody Mary's and Cooks for mimosas :/ Our wait ended up being closer to an hour. We were finally seated toward the back of the restaurant. The ambiance is very eclectic. Not cozy or comfortable whatsoever. My husband ordered chicken fried steak and I had the Huevos Rancheros. I had two very different experiences here. The first was awful. I came about an hour before closing the first time around. I got biscuits and gravy and it had obviously been made earlier in the morning and just was not good. My coffee also tasted stale. I was very unimpressed with the food and the service. Fast forward to going for breakfast around 9am another time, and my experience was 100% better. The food was delicious and the coffee great. The service was wonderful and I'd go back again because of all of this. They have great regular and decaf coffee (I'm a bit of a coffee snob). And the food was awesome. I got the Blackstone Benedict, my husband a special, and my mother-in-law the Local. All were amazing and we had no food left to take home! The seating was also great. What can I say about this place--It's Outstanding! We went during the week for breakfast and it was low key, service spot on, etc. The food excellent. We like it so much we went back on Saturday morning. Within 15 minutes of opening the place was packed so the word is out on this place, folks. Go early and go often. I was looking out back and it appeared that they have a garden from which they get some of their veggies. Kudos to them. Fantastic experience. Made in house salsa with the choice of three levels of heat. Delicious! Home fries were perfectly browned. I'm sure potatoes were par boiled then fried with skins. I had "the Blackstone" with a veggie sausage. Bearnaise sauce was nicely understated. Tons of spinach and cornmeal encrusted tomatoes were perfectly done. Will definitely return with pleasure. The atmosphere is just awesome. We went on a beautiful day and ate outside. They had a DJ playing some great mellow tunes and at an outdoor bar area serving coffee and morning style cocktails. Sorry to say this year was a disappointment. By 10 am the two specials we wanted were sold out. For the second year in a row they were out of my favorite teas. Bend's breakfast chic boutique scene is a crowded one, but Chow is a strong contender among them. The eclectic wood-and-metal exterior décor offers plenty of places to chat or just explore while waiting--and wait you will, unless you come early. I advise getting there early or being prepared to hang out for a while. The old-timey interior is similar to other brunch havens, but where it lacks in fancy pastries and soy soaps, it makes up for in plenty of elbow room between tables (a real plus), a warm fire on cold mornings, and fun and colorful pop art on the walls. The various omelets and benedicts offer the best bang for your buck. I love the pulled pork benedict with its blue cheese hollandaise and fried sweet potatoes. The pork is soft, the blue cheese smooth, and the potatoes salty and sweet. Common breakfast items like the oatmeal and the biscuits and gravy aren't quite as polished. I was dismayed by the tiny, clumped-up raisins for my oatmeal that seemed to have come from the bottom of a Sunmaid raisin box and a gravy that had the same non-flavor and consistency of a continental breakfast bar. Fortunately, the eggs on top were cooked to runny, sunny side up perfection. But there's much more on the menu. Ask the owner for her recommendations. She never seems too busy to ask how you're doing, and day in day out, she sees a hundred guests with palates far pickier than mine and still seems cheerful and up for the daily challenge. While not my absolute favorite, Chow's service and elbow room are a premium worth coming back for. read more

We were just a bunch of girls, visiting Bend for good times, good food, and good brews. ...Yes, it was a Bachelorette party....We were told to go to Chow and it Chowed our lives! Sorry...that pun was terrible. In all seriousness, Chow serves up some mad brunch. Want a Benedict? They have them in at least 5 different styles. Want a mimosa? They have all the juices! Potatoes with that? They have sweet or crispy rustic. I could eat those potatoes for the rest of my life and not ever be sad, albeit a bit malnourished....Who cares? Potatoes from Chow are life. There are so many perfect things about this place that in the span of the weekend we went twice. We even waited a total of 2 hrs for that bish. Which is the only downside of Chow - everyone knows it is heaven-sent so there is a made rush for brunch. Yet, I urge and beg you to just wait it out. Perfection is worth the wait. The atmosphere here is really lively and enjoyable! On the weekends they have live music in the morning which I thought added a lot to the overall experience:). The food was good, I got "The Local" (2 eggs, toast, choice of protein, and a choice of side). The scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection, and the pork sausage was amazing. For my choice of side, I chose the roasted sweet potatoes which I highly recommend, they were to die for!! The only reason why Chow did not get the full 5 stars is because the coffee took a while for them to get to our table, and same with the food. We had such a delicious lunch at Chow. Food is 5/5. I had the mushrooms and polenta which was very flavorful and I loved the sauce. My husband had the shrimp and grits which was also yummy. We had a side of sweet potatoes which were perfectly seasoned and prepared. The wait was long, but we expected that and the hostess was honest. Our server is the only reason this is not a 5 Star review. She seemed uninterested in being there and even less interested in taking care of us. She didn't tell us about the specials that we heard another waitress offering other tables. She was not apologetic about running out of a beverage that I asked for. Everything that could go wrong, did. Our server Savannah was brusque, bordering on rude. Our food took 45 minutes and that was after we waited almost 15 minutes for her to come back and take our order. During the wait, she didn't stop by our table to communicate the delay or offer us more beverages. She walked by us several times though and only stopped to drop off a bottle of ketchup. Our 2 yo is close to nap time at this point, so we asked for the food to go. She says it's already plated and brought boxes out but still we waited another 5 minutes for it to hit the table. She brings a pancake that we didn't order and we explain to her that the sub flapjacks I ordered was for my son. They don't even have a kids pancake on the menu but she said my husband asked for a Mickey Mouse pancake. That's a flat out lie, I heard him order and he said "we've already ordered the kids food, her pancakes are for him". Next, she added 20% auto-gratuity to our check without a word--we were 3 adults and 2 kids. Why would there be an auto-gratuity?! I am particular about service and my husband isn't as much, but he even said this was the worst experience we have ever had since we moved here 2 years ago. I called to speak to a manager before writing this review, only to be told Savannah herself is the front of house manager. Jaw drop!! Oh and how can I forget--my daughter starts crying upon tasting her chicken strip, so we try it and it's insanely spicy! Seriously? Most kids like bland or lightly salted food, serving them something that makes my mouth hot (and I like spicy) is really not OK. Needless to say, we can't return to Chow after this experience. I visited here for the first time, my boyfriend & I decided to try something new for lunch. At first glance the restaurant looks like a small house, which definitely adds to the comfortable ambiance. We were acknowledged & seated immediately, the hostess was nice but her responses were short & she didn't seem very happy. We were sat at the front patio area, which in combination with the beautiful day made a good first impression. My boyfriend was uncomfortable in the chairs though, as they were metal with no cushioning. Layton was our server, & his service was the best we've had in a while. He was extremely attentive & had an enthusiastic attitude. He seemed very busy with tasks other than serving, yet he still kept our drinks full & checked on us multiple times during our meal. We appreciated his efforts so much that my boyfriend left a 40% tip. He definitely deserved it! We ordered two Pomegranate Soda Waters, the Huevos Rancheros, & the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Everything was served quickly, both dishes looked & tasted amazing. We tried all the sauces they brought to the table & were surprised by how good they were. Good breakfast, brunch and lunch options and vegetarian options as well. I'm always looking for creative places to take my vegetarian family members. I don't eat tomatoes often...
