Stopped in here for breakfast on a Monday morning and had a fantastic meal! I love the garden out front and that they locally source as much as possible. Comfortable seating after only a short wait and coffee was plentiful (after being up at Crater Lake this was huge!). As for the food...I had the crispy polenta and poached eggs. Great flavor and the eggs were perfect. The side of bacon was crispy and everything bacon should be. My companion had the huevos which he liked but he liked the polenta better. LOVE CHOW!! My husband and I literally come here every weekend. This place has a great vibe and service to match. The staff is probably the best part about this place. They're super chill and friendly and always inviting. Very comfortable, easy going atmosphere with AMAZING food and what's better than an outdoor bar to start your days off right while waiting (long waits but oh so worth it) for your food? I literally crave their corn meal crusted tomatoes and side potatoes. My husband loves their corn beef hash as well as their chicken fried steak and I can live off of their Brussels sprouts, veggie Benedict or amazing French toast specials. Also you can buy their home made hot sauces, Bloody Mary mix AND the pickled veggies that come in the bloodys! Please believe the green hot sauce, Bloody Mary mix and veg are in my fridge right meow. Brought both my mom and some of our friends from out of town here for breakfast and they were all very pleased with their orders and the restaurant itself. Wonderful patio atmosphere, awesome garlic bloody marys, delish food! The Samson rocked! Crab cake on house bread topped with a poached egg with a terrific hollandaise sauce. Sweet potato fries were a great side. Jennifer was a great server as well as helping us decide where to go in the couple of hours we were there to explore. Very dog friendly, too. Went to brunch at Chow today. We all loved our food and the atmosphere. Sitting outside was relaxing and the shade was just right. The only reason for the 4 outof 5 stars is that the service was just okay. The hostess was great but the two servers seemed bothered by us. Servers could use some customer service training. Based on the reviews, we thought we'd give Chow a try. This was our first and will be the last time we eat at Chow, but I'm sure that the owner doesn't care based on the way he treated us. I'm glad it was just my son and I and not a larger group of out of town visitors that we like to impress with the great places to eat in Bend. I was asked by the host / owner if a 20 minute wait for a table for two works for me and I said yes. We went into the small bar area to order the special drink of the day. It took 15 minutes before we could order the drink special which was suppose to be "hot" chocolate with liquor and their special caramel sauce (however, the bar tender couldn't get the caramel to squeeze out of the bottle as it was too cold). When we finally got our drinks, they were cold but we did not mention it. As we sat and drank our drinks the guy seating guests came out several times and called for other parties of two with no response (they left). So, I mentioned to him that I had now been waiting for 30 minutes for our table for two. He said that our table would be ready in a few minutes. In the mean time I saw another couple arrive after us and was seated before us. 10 minutes later I go back inside and ask about our table. He asked my name and I said Rick and he asks "Ricky?" and I said no, Rick, and a guy behind me says I'm Ricky and I have been here longer than you, so he got that table. 5 minutes later they call my name. As I walked past by the owner, I said "this is my first time here and it just took 45 minutes for a table for two that you said would be a 20 minute wait, so I would like to understand if in the future when you say a 20 minute wait for a table, does that mean I should expect to wait 45 minutes? He gave me a strange look and turned to the guy who was going to seat us and said to him "that is the first problem of the day so far", and he walked away without any explanation, not to mention an apology. Relative to the food, it wasn't worth the wait and the unwelcome feeling. There are plenty of better places to eat breakfast and lunch in Bend and with a more welcoming staff. read more

Have tried to come here a few times but always turned back due to long wait times. Today, a Saturday morning at 9, we were seated immediately. Service was good, quick, friendly. My husband had a pulled pork tostada Benedict. Pricy at $17. But good. Sweet potato fries also tasty. I had a plain Jane 2 egg breakfast. The scrambled eggs had no salt (which is perfect for me) and the home fries, a little greasy in a tasty way. Multigrain toast unremarkable. I opted for fruit over meat. Big disappointment. For a restaurant that touts its local nature I would have expected citrus, apples, pears, etc. Not out of season, tasteless melons, berries and pineapple. I came here because they say online they have a vegan menu. But apparently the new management or owner or something no longer feels theirs a point in a vegan menu :( will not come here again. My favorite place for breakfast/ brunch in Bend. They also serve lunch. Everything is fresh and tasty. They make their own hot sauces in house. Friendly staff and a beautiful setting under great shade trees and umbrellas make this the place to eat in the morning. It does get crowded and sometimes there is a wait, but they provide coffee and great benches outside to hang out in while you wait. Chow is a MUST EAT location in Bend. We are in town from the greater Seattle area for our summer vacation. Here's the SHORT version of this review: The food is absolutely fantastic. Amazing! The staff and owners are very friendly. Don't go if you are in a hurry, as the wait line can get long. However, if you want delicious food, you'll want to make sure you visit Chow when you are anywhere close to the Bend area. This restaurant would be a big hit in any city. Here's the FULL version of the review: I wanted to try out Chow based on the fantastic Yelp reviews. I knew the food was going to be great. To be honest, my 5 star rating of this restaurant went through a journey, as I was initially unhappy with our experience. We arrived around 10am and it looked to be incredibly busy. I put my family (my wife and I, and our two kids) on the wait list. We were told that it would be a 15-20 minute wait. While we waited, I order a few cocktails from the outdoor bar. I ordered the Bloody Mary and a Blueberry Cocktail (I forget the name). They cost $10 each, which I felt was a little expensive compared to the price of the menu items ($13-15 range). I felt that the Bloody Mary was just "OK"; great fresh vegetables but nothing special with regard to overall taste. My wife said that the Blueberry cocktail "tasted like furniture polish". I tasted it, and it was pretty bad. Might have just been a bad bar tender. Oh well. Current rating = 3 stars. After 50 minutes from our initial arrival, I checked on the wait list and we were the next to be called. Our 10 month old was starting to get restless, so we were concerned that we wouldn't be able to stay at all. I let the hostess know our situation and they did a great job at getting us a table. I wish they would have initially said that it was going to be 45-50 minute wait instead of a 15-20 minute wait, as we were originally told. I really wanted to try the food though, so we did everything we could to stick around. Once we sat down, we had to wait a little bit for our drinks, and were surprisingly told that we couldn't put in our order because the computer system was down. We were worried that our 10 month old wasn't going to be make it, but we ordered our drinks anyway. We weren't happy though. Current rating = 2 stars. We explained our situation with the waitress, who was very friendly, and she made sure that they would expedite our order since we had to wait for a long time. We were happy with the service and placed our order: Corned Beef and Hash, Chicken Friend Steak and the kids Mickey Mouse Pancake. While we waited, we fed the baby so she was tied over. The waitress even helped my wife find the most secluded area, since she is nursing. My wife was very happy with this extra service! The order came extremely fast! Oh boy, did it taste absolutely delicious! The two breakfast dishes that we ordered are so very common. You can get them at any breakfast restaurant in any city in the United States. However, most restaurants cannot touch Chow. The dishes were unique and featured savory flavors. The cooking technique was perfectly executed. All of the ingredients tasted SO fresh. Most likely everything is locally sourced (I haven't looked it up though). You don't get that kind of fresh flavor from ingredients purchased at a grocery store chain. Seriously, EVERY ingredient was SO good. The butter, the maple syrup, the eggs; you name it. We saved the dishwasher any extra cleanup effort, as we cleaned our plates. Even my picky 6 year old son LOVED the pancakes. Current rating = 5 stars. At the end, the owner came over to see how everything went and again apologized for the delay in our overall wait time. They even brought us a $30 Gift Certificate for the delay in our experience! WOW! We were so happy with our over experience. Now we get to go back to enjoy the fantastic food of Chow again sometime before we head back home from vacation. In summary, Chow is a must eat location if you are anywhere near the Bend area and want GREAT food. If you want just "good" food that is served quickly, there are a number of locations in Bend than you can go to. However, if you want the BEST, go to Chow. Just do it. This restaurant would be a huge hit anywhere in the country. I wish I didn't have to drive 5-6 hours to get here from where I live, but rest assure, I will DEFINITELY be returning to this restaurant anytime I am within a 100 mile radius of the city of Bend, Oregon. My meal at CHOW prompted me to join the Yelp community and post my first review. It was just that good. We recently relocated from the Bay Area and had no shortage of good food, but our brunch at CHOW blew almost every brunch spot in SF out of the water. Friendly staff, unbelievable mimosas and food so flavorful we wanted to literally lick our plates clean. I had the Huevos Rancheros and my partner had the chicken fried steak. We visited this establishment after learning that it offers some gluten-free options to some dishes. When talking with our server, he obviously was knowledgeable about Celiac and assured me that precautions in the kitchen would be sufficient to protect me from gluten. Some of the menu items here were interesting and inventive, and the food (once it came) was very good. Best of all, I had no gluten reaction. However, the service was very slow even though it was not crowded. The wait staff was lacking in numbers and it seemed the kitchen was slow as well. We went there based on the yelp ratings. Strong hippie laid back vibe rubbed off too much on the staff. Lots of friendly folks, but the service was slooooow. It took way too long to get our breakfast -- one couple sat down after we had placed our order and got their food before we did! -- but what was more irritating was we had to constantly ask for refills. When the food finally arrived, it was very good. So good in fact, that we came back the next morning to give it another try after the wait staff earnestly apologized for the slow service and said that was not normal. Well, the next morning the service was even slower, and the refills even harder to get. But the food was still very good, so I'm giving it three stars (my son said two would be right, given the staff seemed aware of their shortcomings). But I wouldn't go back. I get the sense the place has a halo effect from its hype. I've read about the annoyances of others who jad to wait. We did to, but I appreciated the time Chow took to make sure they weren't overwhelmed with tables. I think it's smart. We should all just slow down and savour more anyway. Once we were seated, the waitstaff was super attentive. And the food....the food was AMAZING!
