Aut listened carefully as I explained that I wanted a casual cut that encouraged the curl in my hair, especially when air drying, my preferred styling method. She fearlessly chopped - more than I was expecting, then offered me a range of drying options. I requested a "classic blowout," so what happened next was probably my fault. I left the salon looking exactly like Jennifer Aniston in the 90's - not at all the look I was going for. Thank goodness when I washed and air dried I got exactly the look I was going for. Yay Aut! This a review for RUBENS & This is your warning to avoid her at ALL costs!!! Trust me. I'm a natural dark dark brown I spent a lot of money changing my hair to chocolate brown at another salon. I came to Chris chase because I wanted a simple gloss and tone to take the brass out. Something I thought was relatively simple and didn't require a trip to my usual salon by the park. Rubens did not give me the time of day to explain what I wanted even though I mentioned to tell her keep chocolate brown just tone brass. She put my head in the bowl and when I came out my hair was black. All the money turning chocolate brown was down the drain. I hate complaining so I nicely told her it was too dark with almost tears in my eyes. She proceeded to yell at me and gaslight me. Then had her assistant strip the color which it's still way too dark by the way. Then she rudely told me "look now you can see your split ends again" and sent me home with partially damp hair that she rough blow dried for half a second. I have never had a bad salon experience so I guess I was due for one but trust me and save yourself. read more

Wow - what a fantastic experience at Chris Chase salon! I'm from out of town and booked a blowout for a special event. I arrived insanely (40 minutes) early in the hopes they could squeeze me in - I had misgauged how long it would take me to walk there from Hudson Yards. The person at the front desk was incredibly kind and accommodating, setting me up to get my service early from Aut. Go to Jordan at Chris Chase ... life changer! I have been blonde my entire life, and always struggled to find a stylist that didn't make my hair look too yellow or orange. I found Jordan about 2 years years ago now and he has changed my life. When I first started going to Jordan he would highlight and cut my hair. My highlights are very light/bright blonde, but still look natural. I love my color and always get so many compliments! After I went to him over 5 of my blonde friends started coming to him, and have been going to him ever since. I never have to tell him what I want each time I go in now, he always knows how to make it the perfect color. Also I have struggled with hair cuts since I've moved to NYC. My hair is thin and medium length and I have been trying to grow it out forever! Jordan did an amazing job putting layers in my hair to frame my face, yet knew exactly how to trim the length to keep it looking long. He said after a few hair cuts I'd notice my hair looking longer, and I saw results very quickly. After about a year my hair grew however due to my fine hair I always complained about how thin it was. Jordan suggested I started trying extensions, another life changer! I've been getting them for about two years now and absolutely love them. I currently use tape in extensions which are very easy to maintain. I go about every two months to Jordan for him to take them out and put them back in. If you're like me and have fine hair (something that you unfortunately cannot change) I highly recommend getting extensions with Jordan! Of course that big chandelier help a lot. They have all transparent chairs, decorated wooden mirror. When you are in a shampoo and nobody block your view, your can yourself perfected in exactly one mirror across the hall. I don't know if they designed this. Nothing on the effect. The owner is friendly and the front desk is also always welcoming and helpful. But I think I keep coming back because of Jordan. He is so sweet, hilarious, and of course, great at doing my hair. I have a salon i normally go to for my hair, but I wanted to see what else is out there and boy, was that the WRONG move. Rick S. cut/styled my hair and what I disliked initially is that he curled my hair when blowing it out without even asking me. Normally, I'd like to blow my hair out straight after i get it cut so I can actually see the style. I didn't say anything and let it go, though. When I got home, I looked in the mirror and noticed one side of my hair looked longer than the other. To make sure I wasn't being paranoid, I showered the horrible blow out job immedietely and checked out my hair. it WAS longer on one side than the other. Are you serious? To top it all off, the "style" he did was so choppy and uneven. My hair looks shaggy in a really bad way. I immediately pulled out scissors and cut it till it was even. I can't believe I had to do that after I spent so much on my hair. It's definitely not cheap there by any means. Bottom line is I hate my haircut and definitely wouldn't recommend Chris Chase Salon, let alone ever go back. I'm mad at Rick for ruining my hair. What a treat it is to have a great hair salon in your neighborhood. They have a deal for first time customers- if you book your appointment on a Monday or Tuesday, you get 20% off (only some stylists honor the deal). If you are getting your hair cut AND colored, it's a fantastic deal. I only got my hair cut, but I was still happy paying $80 (instead of $100). The salon is very nice but not pretentious by any means. (They use Kerastase, Pureology, L'Oreal Professional and their own line of products if you're wondering.) Side note: I thought it was pretty cool that they offered wine as one of their complimentary beverages but it was only noon so I opted for coffee instead. I followed by cut &color guru Ryan to this salon from Chris Mitchell, which recently closed. My first trip to Chris Chase was a couple of weeks ago. The seating area in front is comfortable, Ryan's assistant immediately offered me a drink (coffee/tea/water, etc.) and a magazine, and though the salon was totally full and bustling with colorists, stylists, and others, it was not overly loud or unbearable. From what I saw, everyone here works hard to do a great job for their clients. I had a great shampoo and condition, and no one had an attitude or a chip on their shoulder. Even better, this place is in the midst of some great Chelsea coffee shops and diners, so it's nice little weekend afternoon. read more

Firstly, I think it's tough to rate an entire salon, rather than a particular operative. How does one say that every single hairdresser in there is a five? You can't: so this is for Melissa, my hairy saviour (in the sense that she's the saviour with my hair, rather than... Oh, you got that bit? Ok, cool). When I first arrived in this city/country, I needed a haircut, got on The Yelp, and found these guys. Just about freaked out with the price afterwards, but it was the best cut I'd had in a long time, if not ever. I didn't really know what I wanted, just I wanted it short-ish: and Melissa owned it. She had her thoughts, told me, went at it. I never really know what I want when I go to the hair dresser, but I know a good, flattering cut when it's on my head. Melissa could do this with very little instruction. The price sent me away for some time, trying various salons around the city, and never was I happy. Every one that I've tried has been 4 star or above, and I've rarely come out thinking "Whoo!". So, 18 months later, now that my hair's grown long and I'm going for a longer style, I entrusted Melissa again. And she delivered, once again, with very little direction. It doesn't hurt that she's also very sweet, southern, although sadly without the hilarious accent, and smoking hot. Although before you get ideas, her husband works with the US Marshalls, which I think means he kills people for a living. Or he's Tommy Lee Jones. read more

This has been a long time coming. I'm not one to write reviews, but Dan is one of the best colorists and stylists I've ever been to and I've tried many!! A friend of mine recommended him after a disaster color job, I mean it was a disaster. I'm shocked he even took on the task. But after sitting in his chair for a couple hours he fixed my hair and then some. It was healthier and my color had never looked so good. Needless to say, I've never looked back and that was nearly 4 years ago. He truly is the master at his craft! He has a way with blonde hair and not only that but my hair is SO much healthier and happier after the years of seeing him. My highlights are always perfect and I feel on cloud nine after I see him. My boyfriend works a few blocks away and I always stop by to see him after and insist we go out so I can show off how great I look! Not only is he incredible with color but he is also great with extensions. It was my first time getting extensions and he went the extra mile and made sure they were perfect. I always receive compliments on the color but with the extensions in they were overwhelming!! He definitely did everything to make sure I was looking celebrity worthy and feeling incredible when I walked the red carpet at the Grammys. I highly recommend him, not only is he incredible with hair but he is so much fun to chat with, I really enjoy and look forward to getting my hair done instead of the dread and doubt I had for so long! When I first moved to NYC, I was overwhelmed by the seemingly unlimited places to get my haircut. I'm always wary of trying a new stylist - I have curly hair, and trust me, not everyone "gets" how to cut curly hair - and when I was in college, I would wait to go back to Chicago to get my hair cut. My hair was long at times...sheesh! Thankfully, one of my friend's friends (whose haircut I really liked) suggested Morgan at Robert Kree. Honestly, he gave me the best haircut I ever had. I believe Morgan has since left the salon to open up his own place (that I will most certainly visit next time I'm in NY!), but I loved the vibe at Robert Kree. It's an open, almost airy space, casual but nice, not stuffy by any means. Plus, they offer you wine while you're getting your hair done - always a plus in my book. And...they're just a block away from Magnolia, so when you step out of the salon with a hot new cut, buttercream chocolate frosting is awaiting! read more

I have to agree... David is a solid stylist. Everyone at the salon is very friendly, and the place has a nice vibe. I've only been here a couple of times, but so far, so good. Cost of my cut today (which I've already gotten some compliments) came to $99 not incl tips. David was very patient , helping figure out the proper hairstyle to fix a bad cut that someone else did in between my Robert Kree appointments. She did a great job and didn't even make "the face", people with long thick wavy hair know what I mean. Too bad the receptionist was snooty. The last 4 to 5 years, I have not been crazy about my hairstylist or my hair...but always feeling bad about leaving (I know, CRAZY) stayed at the same salon and with the same stylist! Anyway! Specifically I came to Chris Chase Salon for 1 stylist and 1 stylist only... AUT! She's been the go to girl for my fiance & I for years, and she never disappoints!!! I've followed her wherever she goes, and I will forever be loyal! I never really have a specific plan/idea for what I want done to my hair, I just show up, sit down, she suggests, I agree, and she gives it to me! This really shows how much I trust her. I never know what I'm going to leave with. She is truly an AMAZING colorist. What I never thought would look good on me, turns out exceptional, and I've been addicted to staying blonde (in all shades of blonde) ever since! She's a great conversationalist during the whole 4hrs I spend at the salon, & we always have a magical time. Consistently I will get compliments from random strangers on my hair, even if my roots are grown out and its been a solid 4 months after! I have Aut to thank for it!!! Like I mentioned previously, she also does my fiance's hair, color & cut. No one, yes no one, has ever made his hair look as bomb as it does when we leave Aut. She really knows how to give a superb buzz/fade, and texture to a male's hair. & her styling is out of this world! So happy to have found Liz Lazo again! I hunted her down after her old salon closed and I'm so glad that I did. First and foremost, my hair turned out great. I am a bleached-blondorexic who refuses to give up my platinum ways, despite my natural hair getting darker (and darker and darker.) Liz turned my roots into a beautiful blonde without torching my scalp or my hair! She also gave me a stellar blowout that I'm sure I'll be rocking for a week. The salon is very cool- nice space, everyone was EXTREMELY friendly and it was very clean. A bit on the pricier side if you're used to a budget place, but it's about on-par with any high-end salon in the city (I've certainly paid more for worse.) I enjoyed a glass of wine during my service and had a good time people-watching when Liz and I weren't chatting away. I thought my haircut was absolutely terrible. The experience was bad and for the price I thought I would get a nice cut. I went to another salon to dye it. Maybe that would help. It didn't. When I asked if I could go and get it fixed they said I only had one week to fix it but that it had been 8 days so one day short. They didn't warn me of this even tho they knew I was unhappy with the cut from the first day. Who puts dry shampoo on a pixie cut after it's been washed a cut? I didn't even ask for a pixie I asked for a mullet. I also was kind an declined a drink. They should offer again out of courtesy. They put a shower cap on my head because it was raining but to be honest I felt it was to cover up the bad job. I can't believe I'm getting married soon and this is the cut I ended up with.
