I am definitely spoiled when it comes to poboys. I hold my poboy to New Orleans standards everywhere I go so keep this in mind. I ordered the Chris's special (aka Ferdie) and it was good on so many levels. The roast beef didn't suck...it was pot roast like and shredded (I ordered extra gravy, because hello...gravy). This poboy was messy y'all. You're going to need at least twenty napkins. Every delicious and messy bite reminded me of Nola. But it failed on so many levels. Tomatoes are extra. What? That ain't no New Orleans poboy. Tomatoes are standard on any poboy in Nola. Of course I ordered them at a dollar upcharge but WTF. The bread wasn't Leidenheimer and normally I can forgive this, but it was soft. I've come to appreciate a certain crispy on the outside but perfectly soft on the inside type of poboy bread. Chris's uses a little cabbage, ham, mozzarella cheese and roast beef and gravy on a tender flakey wide poboy bun. We stopped at Chris poor boys for lunch. This restaurant has a cozy ambiance everyone there were very friendly and hospitable. Our waiter Max was the best, he has great customer service and hospitality. We ordered a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo it was really fresh and tasty. We also ordered the muffffaletta, we asked how big it was because we were sharing it he told us it was big. He wasn't lying it was huge. It came with chips and a kosher pickle. The bread which comes from a local bakery is topped with sesame seeds it's warm crispy on the outside soft on the inside the fresh meats and cheese were accompanied with the fresh olive relish that didn't over power but gave it its pizzazz. That 1st bite just makes you smile wow, now thats the money bite. I am not a muffaletta expert but that was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Our first time at Chris' Poboys just across Pinhook Rd from the Residence Inn. I was warned how busy that road traffic is and it was lunch time. They gave me other restaurants around that I could walk to without crossing over Pinhook. The alternative restaurants sounded ok, but I had researched on Yelp and Chris' was still my first choice. I walked over always and there was Chris' Poboys just on the other side of Pinhook. But wait it was not busy, in fact no traffic on either direction of the 5 lane road, including turn lane. I strolled over easily at 12:25 p. Now the restaurant is very unassuming with a busy drive through windows(for phone in orders only). Big sign thanking those who voted them the Best Gumbo. The entrance is small and I missed it at first as I walked through the full parking lot. Haley, like the comet came to my rescue and guided me through the maze got my Poboys with 10 pickles to go and out the door in no time. Then I found out how bad Pinhook traffic can be, but I had patience to stroll across safely again. It was so good, we were back the next day, a slower Saturday and still quick service and very good. The Roast beef Poboy is world class. Every other Poboy is pretty terrible. I've actually never seen such a gap between best and second best Poboy. This place should take everything off the menu except the roast beef Poboy and the Coca Cola. The oyster Poboy is borderline criminal offense. Staff is very nice. read more

Yummy gumbo as we have for years. Has a good roux taste and lots of chicken, but could use a little more sausage ... mine had two little slivers. Had the catfish poboy which was supposed to be fully dressed, but came with only had a schmeer of mayo, sweet relish and a hint of shredded cabbage. The potato salad is good but is on the sweet side. Chris' has always had great poboys but this time on our visit to Louisiana, it wasn't quite the same as usual. I had my usual barbeque beef poboy and it just didn't hit the spot as before. I'm going to guess it was just a bad night for them and giving them the benefit of the doubt. I'll check it out on our next trip and see if they've improved or not. I still recommend Chris as the best poboys in Lafayette. I used to love Julian's but they've really gone down by skimping on their helpings. read more

We sat at table for 5 but there were only 3 of us (we were waiting for others to arrive) and we were asked to move to another table and it was a house rule. We were driving on the 10 FWY on our way to texas, and we decided to try something local and Google recommended this place. Great sandwiches! My favorite the muffaleta! If you love Italian meats, you'll love it. My husband got the Chris' special and he loved it too. Definitely worth the drive into town. Will return again when we visit Louisiana. read more

Came here on Wednesday for an oyster poboy after exhausting the downtown options (there is one place that sells them & they are frequently sold out, the other closes at 2PM) 5 tables had at least 2 people, the rest of the place was empty. I waited 25 minutes for an oyster poboy. The oysters were small like bullets & there were very few of them. But, there was a LOT of mayonnaise. The oysters tasted like the had been sitting in water for a couple of days, the exact opposite of fresh. 2 stars because at least the staff is nice- I guess. This was a lovely little place! The staff all seemed to be high school and college aged but they were very friendly and professional - no horsing around. We came for one specific item and heard Chris does them best. The muffuletta. And it was awesome, I couldn't finish my quarter and we had lunch for the next day. I was really tempted by the bread pudding with the white chocolate sauce buy was so stuffed I just couldnt... maybe next time. We ordered to go from here giving the current COVID19 restrictions and on recommendation of a resident that lives in our complex but the recommendation fell completely flat when we got our food. The gumbo was highly recommended and let me tell you I get better gumbo at Lafayette General Hospital. Located across the street from my hotel I was excited to get a real Po Boy from a local restaurant. The menu offers multiple options for Po Boys like oyster, shrimp, roast beef, game, pork etc. They come in half (6") and whole (12"). Decided on "Chris' Special" which came with Roast Beef, Ham, Swiss, slaw and gravy. The bread was flat and delightful and the protein was generous. The sandwich had a nice and salty flavor. An overall good meal. I had a shrimp po'boy. The bread was NOLA style. Light and flaky crust. However, the batter on the shrimp was not the traditional breading. It was a more commercial type batter. The pickle was crispy however it was laid atop the chips which made them soggy. All in all an average meal. The service was good. The young man kept my lemonade topped off. It comes with chips, but I didn't see that so I ordered fries too, which were also pretty good. The place was packed for lunch, but despite this service was still pretty fast. It has a very local feel to it and as I was in line to pay after my meal, a man, who assume was the manager or possibly the owner came over and thanked me for coming, which was pretty cool. I did not have the bread pudding this time, but I have had it in the past. If you have any room left I would recommend it. read more
