HORRIBLE! I waited over 30 minutes for my Gumbo as the kitchen was out of rice. When I returned to work with my supposed complete order there was NO RICE. I haven't been to Chris' in about 2 year. I was working in the area and decided to treat myself. Boy, I was in for a disappointment. The delicious French Bread was replaced with a cheap hoagie bun that was slathered with so much mayo, it was a ball of sog. Their crispy, golden steak fries had become soft and undercooked with some crap seasoning all over them that made my fingers orange from it mixing with the grease. Great first time at here and what a pleasant experience! Food was excellent. I enjoyed a Roast beef Poboy and it was delicious. The 6 inch was enough because they also have the 12 inch. My wife loved her muffuletta and said the bread, meat, cheese and olive mixture was the Best she ever had. Staff friendly and prices very fair. What happened to good French bread for po boys? These guys of all people should know what makes a poboy a poboy. The bread!!!! I grew up in Louisiana with great poboy shops. Pretty sure Chris's used to be one of them. I was so disappointed with their shrimp poboy as it came on what I can only describe as a long hamburger bun. Not crispy or crunchy- not even toasted. I can't give 1 star because the shrimp was okay but for $11+ dollars I expected more! read more

Extremely poor service! Was delivered incorrect - incomplete order called to question this was told driver may have eaten the order! What? That is the customer service I experienced! I love Chris' poboys. They have some of the best bread and fresh seafood. The shrimp poboy is my go to when I come to chris'. Also, whenever they have seafood gumbo I'd suggest you try it. The catfish poboy we ordered last night was $10.95 ( more expensive than olde tyme but way less value for the $) was a piece of fish between flimsy French bread. When I say it was naked-I mean it was naked! It was dressed with only a little bit of mayo. Chris' special which has been much better DINING in, was pitiful Thursday 2/25/16. Hardly any meat on it and it left me hungry. There is nothing worse than being starving, getting a pitiful sandwich and still be hungry. Wait there's more! Check it - when you dine in you get chips and a pickle, making the sandwich complete and a better value, however when you take out, you don't get the chips and pickle. Let me hip ya to sumthin Chris' you would FAIL miserably anywhere other than LFT. If you pulled this anywhere else you'd be laughed out of town. So, I call to inquire about this after I left, b'cuz it took me a minute to realize that they'd always served chips/pickle when we dined in. The poor little girl who answered the phone and advised me this was their policy when you take out, did not know the first thing about customer service or how to handle a complaint as she hung up on me when I told her how ridiculous this was. Their policy must be to not dress their sammies either if you take out, b'cuz there was NOTHING on the special but meat-no slaw like they do when we dine in. This place is great. We found the shop on Yelp. We had several children in our party of eight. They bent over backwards to help us figure out what to order. It must have taken us twenty minutes. They even gave us some ice for our cooler! The food was awesome. The roast pork was incredible. The roast beef melted in your mouth. The gumbo was amazing. Best shrimp po' boy I've ever had! The shrimp were lightly breaded, not greasy...very tender, juicy and tasty. They are not stingy with the shrimp - plenty of them in there, with just a little bit of lettuce. The French bread was perfect - soft inside, with a flaky crust. A week ago my wife bought 3 fresh catfish fillets at Super One grocery for $6.99 per pound. Since the 3 fillets were slightly less than a pound our cost was about $6.00 plus tax. Today from Chris' Poboys, we ordered a "Catfish Platter" for $14.95 to pickup at the drive-thru window. We were told that the platter comes with 4 fillets when we called to place the order. We were going to get one order and split it. When we got home and opened the box I was appalled at how small the pieces of catfish were. There is no way the amount of catfish we received was more than 1/3rd of a pound at best so we received approximately $2.25 worth of fish meat. The decent amount of large size fries 1/2" x 1" x 4" we received where under-cooked and they only gave us two little packets of ketchup which ran out halfway through eating the fries. The mysterious potato salad was not good (like mashed potatoes with mayo) and being practically tasteless I couldn't tell what was in it. Looking back we should have ordered the only other option (green salad) since we already had the fries. In the good ole days as consumers we used to get what we pay for, but now we get the shaft. The best poboy available in the region, save what comes from my kitchen. Here's what makes the Chris' poboys the best in that region, even thru New Orleans: the bread is the crusty, toothy just-right thickness, the greens used is cabbage (that's a must do), and the amount of freshly fried oysters is nearly obscene. The price is above what you'd pay for a sub, but this is no sub and a dozen freshly fried oysters aboard crisp, dressed cabbage and perfect bread is something I gladly pay for. The only change I'd make is to craft a quick remoulade for an offering....otherwise, perfect. read more

Some coworkers and I placed an order to go with the intention of heading back to the office. After sitting in crazy traffic, we decided to dine in rather than let our food go cold. Apparently this isn't really allowed (not that we would have known as there are no signs or notices anywhere in the building), but the management made sure to let us know ever so nicely that we were cheating servers out of tips (you can tip on takeout orders, which we did). He also mentioned that the seats are reserved for dine in customers, and passed by our table several times to reiterate his point and soften the bad taste that was already in our mouths. As a Lafayette native, I'll say the food is alright, but If you're a tourist, definitely go for something a bit more iconic. read more

First visit here and was somewhat satisfied. We were promptly greeted by the staff who were neither overly friendly nor rude. I decided on the Chris Special and inquired about the difference in size of the sandwiches and was told they compared to Subway. I was very disappointed when I got home and saw the poboy to be significantly smaller than I anticipated. On the bright side, the sandwich was very good, although the price when from good to pricey when compared to the serving size. I'll be back and will order a whole instead of a half. I love Chris' - I frequent it during lunch. It is always busy and overflowing with locals, but is great food. A little pricy, but my Shrimp Poboy is always fantastic. Sandwiches come simply dressed with cabbage (great for texture) and mayo. A variety of hot sauces and a seasoned salt are available to top your sandwich off. Great, simple local spot. Olde Tyme Grocery might arguable have better food, but the wait is miserable and location not convenient. read more
