My dentist said I was having mild gum recession, although it was not bothering me, and he referred me to Dr Gasper. Dr Gasper told me that I should have gum graft surgery and assured me that it was a very minor for a surgery and that the pain would be equivalent to a "pizza burn," and the recovery simple. What proceeded was the most physically traumatic and painful experience of my adult life and a very slow and complicated recovery, which resulted in further procedures, treatments and costs, and a significant emotional toll. I was in a surprising amount of pain from (1) the procedure itself and (2) from being required to wear a poor fitting stent for over 2 weeks. The pain was way beyond the "pizza burn" pain that was described to me during the education and informed consent conversation before the procedure. I told Dr Gasper that I was experiencing extreme pain in the upper right quadrant of my mouth, especially if any food, drink, or even wind made contact with it. She told me it was likely nothing serious and she to continue wearing the painful stent 24/7 although I had serious conerns about keeping it on. I endured almost 24/7 increasing mouth pain as I continued to wear the stent per her recommendation. I later found out the stent had fractured two teeth in the upper right quadrant of my mouth, the place where I had been been telling Dr Gaspar that I was feeling significant pain. One of those fractures was so severe that I was told I might need a root canal; luckily it did not happen. However, my dentist said that if I repaired that filling in the future, it would likely need a root canal because of how close it was to the nerve of the tooth. I was also instructed to restrict talking for two weeks and I had to take two weeks off work because my job involves talking with people. Before the procedure, I was told that I would need to restrict talking for a few days. Beyond the physical pain, I had severe swelling on my face, which lasted for over a month. This delayed and complicated recovery also fell on my birthday, about 3 weeks after the procedure, during which I had pain trying to eat my birthday dinner that my friends and family made for me. All of this was exceptionally stressful, caused much strain on my mental health and well being, and disturbed my sleep both during early recovery and for many months following the procedure. I have delayed this review because Dr Gasper and her team also have excellent response time and availability, and it's clear they have helped a lot of people and provided excellent care a lot of the time. The team is also very organized and appreciated the time that Dr Gasper spent with me. She has very good follow through and follow up with her patients. I do think what happened to me was less common, but I believe that Dr Gasper did not give me adequate information for me to make an informed decision and informed consent about the gum graft surgery. The level of pain and and the level of restriction in my day to day functioning was profound and I feel that describing the surgery as "minor" and the pain like a "pizza burn" was sadly misleading. I also have altered and reduced sensation in the palate of my mouth after the procedure, which I was not informed about. Overall, this review is more about my concern about inadequate information about the risks of gum graft procedure. If you decide the procedure is worth it for you, I do still recommend considering working with Dr Gasper and her team as an option. But I recommend doing your own research to be fully informed on the risks and take the time to weigh the pros and cons of the decision. I wish I had done my own research, rather than trusting the word of one professional alone, because I found many anecdotal gum graft stories similar to mine after I had already done the procedure. read more

I was extremely nervous for the gum graft surgery ,however, after consulting with two periodontists, I decided Dr Gaspar was the Dr for me. She made me super comfortable with the upcoming procedure, and has the best most calming bed side manner. She makes a procedure that I was extremely nervous about less scary and easy. After a routine cleaning and x-rays, my dentist discovered the tooth remnant under a crown had entirely cracked in half. He explained my options but strongly recommended I go with an implant. He's been my dentist since 1990, and I trust him implicitly, so it was an easy decision. He said he had a great periodontist a few floors up from his office. She recently extracted a large molar, only using Novacaine, that went so smoothly that I did not need the pain meds she prescribed. Over the past couple of years, I've had three gum grafts expertly performed by Dr. Gasper. I highly recommend her if you're looking for a periodontist. She explained all procedures very well, and she is confident, professional, and empathetic during the surgery (she gave me a few warnings about potential pain [like, "this might sting a little" when administering an anaesthetic], but I didn't really experience any discomfort). Though unlucky enough to need 2 periodontal surgeries, I was extremely lucky to find this practice! My second surgery was late last year with Dr. Gasper. I continue to visit for follow-ups and bi-annual cleanings and have recommended Dr. Gasper to several friends who are in search of a periodontist. The office staff is wonderful. If you're reading this review, you may be in the same position I was a few weeks ago, having been told your dentist that you need the services of a periodontist and now you're reading reviews trying to decide which one. In my case, I had broken a tooth and my dentist, the incomparable Dr. Sima Salami, let me know that due to the way the tooth had broken, I would first need to have something called crown lengthening done before she could restore it with a crown. Of course, being the major dental phobe that I am, I was hardly thrilled. While I was provided with a referral to Dr. Christina Gasper, like you, I also did a lot of homework before making a final decision. Having now completed the procedure, I can enthusiastically say that I could not be happier with my decision to have Dr. Gasper perform the surgery for me. As others have mentioned, Dr. Gasper and her staff are warm, professional and will set even the most anxious person at ease. During my initial consult, she did a full exam and explained all of her findings to me. She also explained what she would be doing to prepare my tooth for a crown and made sure to address all questions/concerns that I had. The crown lengthening procedure itself went incredibly smoothly. Dr. Gasper is amazingly skilled and has an incredibly light touch. She was extremely gentle throughout the procedure, explained what was happening along the way and before I knew it, she was done. Before I left, I was given detailed instructions on how to care for my mouth post-surgery as well as Dr. Gasper's email and cell phone number in case I had any issues or questions. I was referred to Dr Gasper by my Dentist to get evaluated for receding gums. Dr Gasper performed a complete and through oral exam for what I consider a reasonable charge. Her examination reveled a few places that needed treatment. She was not an aggressive salesperson, she explained the process and gave timelines for worsening conditions if I choose to wait too long. I felt very well informed of the consequences of not getting treatment. And I did not feel like I was rushed at all. I think I was more of the "right now" person in getting treatment. Dr. Christina Gasper is an outstanding medical professional. She's someone you can completely trust. Recently, my dentist referred me to a local periodontist in Southern California because I was experiencing pain in one of my back molars. The periodontist reviewed the x-rays and informed me there was bone deterioration below the gum that would require a graft and there was a strong possibility I would lose the tooth if I didn't act quickly. I didn't know this person and I felt the diagnosis sounded extreme so I decided to get a second opinion. The last thing I wanted was to endure was an expensive and painful surgery, especially if it was unnecessary! I had plans to travel to SF for business the following week so I contacted Dr. Gasper and shared my concern. She was already completely booked, but she still went out of her way to accommodate my schedule and find an opening for me. Lucky for me! I fully agree with other writers. Dr. Gasper is wonderful. She takes all the time needed. The only pain is to your pocket book. However, let us remember that you ate the wrong foods, and forgot to clean your teeth properly. But Dr. Gasper will teach you! At this point, please remember that bad food habits transfers to bad gums, and causes your teeth to get sick. Your regular doctor finds that so many people have bad food habits that they don't bother to explain that inflammation and acid problems in your stomach transfers into sickness around your gums and rotting teeth. I just finished up having my tooth extracted by Dr. Gasper. It was a baby tooth that had never fallen out because there was no adult tooth underneath it. After 40+ years, it needed to come out and I was refer to Dr. Gasper. It was one of the best experiences I've had with dental care. Her staff was super professional and had me prepared ahead of time. Prescriptions were sent to my pharmacy with clear instructions ahead of my procedure. The office itself is beautiful and very calming. Most importantly, the procedure was very smooth and painless. Even the numbing caused no discomfort. Dr. Gasper clearly knows what she is doing and has extraordinary skills. I'm man enough to say that I'm terrified of Dentists. Yep, absolutely horrified by those archaic tools, probes and that needle. OMG! I've had some pretty painful dental procedures including oral surgery to place a bracket for my braces under my gums and yank a tooth into place over the course of 2 1/2 years. Yeah that sucked a lot. A couple months ago I had my first root canal, and here's the best part, it was a healthy tooth, it was the last molar on my bottom row. The tooth was healthy damn it. Yet it had cracked and I had this horrid metallic taste in my mouth because of a filling that split too. The only way to save it was to root canal it and fill it in. ugh. The root canal left the tooth short, very short, too short for a crown. I went to see Dr. Gasper for a crown lengthening procedure. For those of you that may be wondering, this is where they remove part of your gum line and in some cases, a little bit of jaw bone, smooth it out, to expose more tooth so there's more structure for the crown to sit on. The plate of tools for this procedure looks as if it was borrowed from a Spanish inquisition torture chamber. I won't kid you, it was far from a pleasant procedure. There's scalpels, you're awake and lots of shots of Novocain. However, I don't think I'd want to have it done with anyone else other than Dr. Gasper if I ever have to go through it again. Dr. Gasper is a highly trained Periodontist that specializes in these kinds of procedures and implants. The whole experience from intake to her explaining what to expect, and the actual work, went faster and smoother than I originally anticipated. I healed faster than expected, the discomfort didn't last quite as long as predicted and I now have an awesome gold molar. No I'm not planning on getting a grill, it just happens to be the best material for your mouth and is closest to your natural enamel. read more

I wish I could come to Doctor Gasper exclusively for all dental matters as she is the best dental professional that I've ever seen (and I've gone through many). Not only has she provided impeccable and professional periodontal treatments, she also made my fear of dentist visits go away. Having had really bad experiences with many dentists back in Germany (painful bleedy procedures with lots of post-op pain), I was terrified when I first came into Doctor Gasper's office. However, from the first moment, her and her friendly staff has made me feel comfortable and did so well taking away my anxiety. Throughout a treatment period of close to a year, including a dental extraction, bone augmentations, placement of two dental implants, and all the follow-up visits, I have experienced first-hand the diligence and quality with which Doctor Gasper operates. In addition, being her kind and approachable self, she has made me feel comfortable even during the scariest procedures. I cannot thank her enough for getting me through the procedures without any major hiccups, and I strongly believe it to be due to her deep expertise and knowledge built throughout her long tenure. Also, for post-procedure, she would provide her personal cell-number and personally call in the next day to check-in. When I texted her about post-op pain on a Saturday, she responded promptly. She even responded to an urgent appointment request I sent her office over the weekend and personally shifted schedules to accommodate my earliest availability. I consulted Dr. Panaite about my gum recession at the recommendation of my dentist and am so glad I did. Dr. Panaite is THE best. I wish she specialized in every type of dentistry. Hell, I wish she was a doctor and could always take care of me. I'd be the healthiest person around. As suspected, Dr. Panaite confirmed that several of my gums had unusually large amounts of recession, and that I needed gum replacement to prevent additional bone loss. It was an expensive procedure ($1600 per gum), but Dr. Panaite was worth the price. Not only is she one of the genuinely nicest people I have ever met, you can tell she really cares about her work, cares about her patients, and is extremely talented. That attitude extends to her staff as well - every person there was attentive, helpful, and incredibly welcoming. I always felt like I was meeting family every time I walked through the doors of the office. When you're undergoing invasive mouth surgery, it's an invaluable feeling to have. As for the actual surgery, everything went as smoothly as one could hope. Panaite and her staff prepped me sufficiently, gave me plenty of drugs, made sure I was comfortable during the procedure, and scheduled quite a few follow-up appointments to make sure everything healed as it should. It's now been three months since my procedure and my gums are looking almost completely healed! I know I'll have to have more gum surgeries in my near future, and as much as I'm not looking forward the natural discomfort of the healing process, I feel 159% better knowing that my mouth will be in Dr. Panaite's hands. read more

I cannot not fully describe the excellent care that I found at Dr. Panaite's office. She is respectful, performs excellent work while carefully explaining what she is doing to the patient, and makes you feel comfortable while in her office and during post-op care. Her office staff was friendly, and worked with me to schedule appointments at convenient times. Dr. Panaite was recommended highly by my dentist after a traumatic bike accident resulting in severe injuries to the front teeth and outer jaw bone. I needed emergency work to treat infection and repair the shattered teeth. I had never had any serious dental work done before and this was my first experience with a traumatic injury. Dr. Panaite is the ideal periodontist. She carefully explained all my options multiple times to myself and my mother who accompanied me. I never felt rushed or pressured. She answered my questions clearly. Her and her assistant Holly were efficient, and the procedure was done quickly and smoothly. They provide everything in their office to make you feel comfortable during a procedure - right down to a blanket in case you are feeling cold. Dr. Panaite called to follow-up with me personally several times. She provided clear instructions for post-op care and made herself available if I had any questions about further treatment. If only I had searched periodontists on yelp years ago when I was first told that I needed gum surgery. Dr. Panaite is the the professional I was hoping for, and it looks like everyone here has had similarly amazing experiences with her. My initial appointment stretched into 3 hours - she was thorough in the assessment, examination and communication of what's happening, what there is to find out in joint treatment with a TMJ dentist, and what I can do to improve my gum and jaw health. I have a surgery on Nov 18th and I find myself excited for it instead of dreading it as I had done for years. If I could give Dr. P twenty million stars, I would. She has literally saved my mess of a mouth. After visiting 3 other oral surgeons, I walked into Dr. P's office not knowing what to expect and after speaking with her for 10 minutes, I knew she was the winner. Not only was she extremely comforting and sweet, but she was also the most knowledgable doctor I spoke to. She truly invested in me as a patient, which is why I believed that she was a doctor worth investing in. She just placed an implant for me last month and everything went perfectly. People usually take 1 week+ to heal, and I was back in the office the following day with such little pain I couldn't even believe that I got surgery the day before. She explained every detail of the procedure in advance to make sure that I understood what EXACTLY was going to be done. From the technology that she uses to the medical results she expects, everything is articulated to ensure no surprises whatsoever. She gives you ALL options so that you can make a decision best for you. Not only am I dealing with an implant on one side of my mouth, but also a Maryland bridge on the other side of my mouth (I wasn't able to get an implant there because I didn't have enough space between my roots). She set me up with an orthodontist that can fix it with Invisalign so I don't have to get braces (as a mid twenty year old). She will eventually place a permanent implant there too. Dr. Gasper is a wonderful periodontist. I will not go anywhere else. A couple weeks ago I had major work done (i.e., tooth extraction and bone graft) in prep for dental implant surgery. I was extremely nervous going into the procedure but as soon as I sat in the chair, Dr. Gasper and team made me feel comfortable and the surgery was painless. Afterwards, I only needed Advil and everything healed nicely. In a few months, I will go back to start my implant procedure and I am totally at ease. Dr. Gasper is very gentle & caring and always does a follow up call the day after the procedure. I highly recommend you coming here for gum treatment, dental impacts and any other periodontist needs.
