Hot Chocolate, $11 (large) - toppings are nice, but just swissmiss or nestle

It was nice to get out and get some fresh air and hang out with family. Unfortunately, the ambiance wasn't up to normal par. The big tree was a little disappointing and the trees on the outside weren't lit up, so they were difficult to see. My next opinion carries two thoughts. I was so happy to share Christmas in the Park with my 7-year-old nephew and my sister who lives in Southern CA. We were all super excited. Then at once we came upon a tree with a photo of the cutest child. Then I noticed wings on the tree. Actually, I noticed the wings first and then the child's photo. Initially I was like, oh, that's cool to put angel wings on the tree. Then I saw the photo and my heart sank. My niece who was closer was able to read that the child had passed away. It totally ruined my vibe. Was this appropriate for a festive park? That entire section had photos of people who had passed away. So, here's the other thought on my opinion. I saw a picture of an adult female and then I thought, "What a wonderful way to memorialize her for the season." I had missed emotions, but I would have preferred to overlook this section altogether. For years we would come and my small child would get this plastic Rudolph that would be on a stick. I probably got him that thing 3-years in a row. I was hoping to grab one for my nephew this year...ha ha, it's been over twenty years, and they didn't have any of the plastic blow ups for sale, but they did have hot chocolate. I'm not sure if the vendor now is the same as the one over twenty years ago, but this hot chocolate was clearly Swiss Miss or Nestle. It was basic, but the exciting part were the toppings... we had whipped cream, sprinkles, a candy cane and a little plastic snowman's head. We got the large, which was totally unnecessary and not just because of the $11 cost. Noticeably missing were the snow machines throughout the park, but my nephew was probably too young to enjoy it anyway. Also parking around the perimeter is impossible because they block all the parking. You can circle around to find a park or do what we did and just park in the lot next to the skating rink, which is across the street. I believe it was $2 per 20 minutes. Here's What I Think... If you've never been, check it out. It's nice to see the efforts the children and organizations put into decorating their trees. For me, it'll be another few years before I go back.

It has become a tradition visiting this place before Christmas. Before my kid was born I used to enjoy spending time here and now my daughter enjoys being here too. My enjoys taking pictures with Santa.

It's a yearly tradition for me going to Christmas In The Park during the holiday season and getting their famous snowman hot chocolate which I can technically make at home--but hey, it's for the experience lol. It's free to attend which is a plus! I enjoy the atmosphere, decor, browsing the decorative Christmas trees, and taking photos. It's definitely a festive place to be during the holidays in San Jose for all ages!

We added Christmas In The Park as part of something we could do with our family visiting so we decided to go after an afternoon at the Tech Museum. In short, it could have been very magical, but it fell flat for us. L O C A T I O N Located in the heart of Downtown San Jose. Parking can be free if you search on certain days, but if you're not looking to spend time to find parking, the parking garages are your next best bet for a nominal fee. E X P E R I E N C E Christmas in the Park happens yearly. It's a donation based experience so it's free. On one side of the park you have a bunch of Christmas trees that are decorated and sponsored by families or companies. On the other side you have some booths as well as some snacks and hot chocolate which people really love. There are also some carnival like games. The food and games come with a fee. I think as it was raining it was just not a very pleasant experience and we didn't have umbrellas which again didn't lend to a magical experience. O V E R A L L I think on a day with good weather, this may be a cute spot to hang out and view some Christmas trees and get into the Christmas spirit. But skip if it's raining.

A MUST if you're in the area during the holiday season. There are definitely a few pro-tips you must adhere to if you want the least suffering experience if anything. Definitely try to park as far away as possible and just walk there. There's free parking if you are vigilant and can find it. I would also try to go with somewhat older children too since it's just a crowded and cold miserable experience otherwise. I would also recommend just getting your food elsewhere since it's, as many other Yelpers have stated, grossly overpriced. Make sure to wear closed toe shoes and ones that are comfy as well since you will be doing a lot of walking and there's...grossly a lot of wet spots that or may not be mysterious water and spills. Another thing is to go use the restroom before you get there or to use one at a local hotel, not at one of those gross public loos, my god. I can't even imagine what it's like. Alright, now for the actual review. It's always so nice to see the historical animatronics and displays that have always been part of Christmas in the Park. My favorite will always be the Caribbean Christmas Froggies singing and celebrating in their swamp lagoon thingy. Super cute and unique! There are other ones such as teddy bears, elves working in a work shop, etc. Unfortunately, some of these are located in real bottle-necked walkways and so many people are trying to get photos there so it sucks around those areas, so just keep your eye out. I also love seeing Danny the Dragon out there and his special Christmas lore, also inspired me to visit Happy Hollow. Very neat! There's also Snoopy, a Wishing Well, and much, much more! There's also displays that change around that are made by community members as well as the hundreds of trees that are decorated by families, schools, community members, businesses, and so many groups, some are dedicated in memory to people, to movements, to tragedies, to causes, to fandoms, and to so much more. Very unique and so much to look at too. Each year the themes change up and the locations of the trees do so too, so there's always some slight differences too. Additionally, there's some rides and fair games, an ice skating rink, a chance to meet Santa, an informational booth with merchandise available, some places to purchase baked goods and handmade goods from vendors, etc. All around a great place to spend a couple of hours for some holiday cheer.

Christmas in the Park is pure holiday magic! Fun for the entire family and perfect for all ages. There's a great play area for the kids, skating that everyone can enjoy, and even a designated bar area for the adults. The hot chocolate hits the spot, and the variety of food and craft vendors makes it easy to spend hours exploring. Best of all... it's free! A wonderful community event that truly brings the spirit of the season. Definitely a 5-star experience for me and my family and friends.

A must for the winter holiday season. The return of the penguins was nice. The whole area should continue to be closed off and turned into pedestrian-friendly Christmas town. Thank you

I remember coming here every year with my kids for Xmas We have fond memories of being here I would recommend coming here and experiencing it yourself at least one time lol Now that I'm older it just seemed like a huge cluster 100s of decorated Xmas trees A few kid rides, some food vendors and extra long lines and everything was just super overcrowded it was hard to walk through the venue I guess I'm a grinch now Idk But definitely try this spot at least once and then go from there lol

This is an annual event for my family for many years. A wide range of Christmas trees decorated by community organizations, businesses and individuals. No cost for admission. Vendors with food options in the park and many entertainment and food options across the street from the event. Family friendly. Every year I am amazed at how creative people can get with these trees. I love that scouting groups and schools involve so many children in this event. Definitely worth the time and effort to explore the entire event.

Christmas in the Park in San Jose is a heartwarming holiday tradition that brings the festive spirit alive for all ages. Located in Downtown San Jose, this annual event transforms Plaza de Cesar Chavez into a winter wonderland filled with lights, decorations, and holiday cheer. The displays are creative and charming, featuring a mix of traditional holiday themes and unique exhibits sponsored by local organizations. From whimsical animatronics to beautifully decorated Christmas trees, there's something magical to discover at every corner. The iconic community tree is a showstopper, and the nightly lights make the atmosphere even more enchanting. There are food vendors offering everything from hot cocoa to festive treats, and the aroma of churros and roasted nuts fills the air. Live entertainment, photo opportunities with Santa, and activities for kids ensure there's never a dull moment. The event is free to attend, making it a fantastic outing for families, couples, or anyone looking to soak up the holiday vibes. However, parking is a challenge, even on Sundays, so plan ahead or consider using public transit to save time and frustration. Overall, Christmas in the Park is a joyful, community-centered celebration that embodies the spirit of the holidays. If you got time and the right parking spot (in case you get lucky finding something on the street) its worth going in and indulging in what they have to offer.

This is a must every holiday season. The hot chocolate is what I look forward to the most besides viewing all of the different trees with their decor. They also have some games along with an ice skating rink. I recommend to take cash, they do have ATMs around but they charge $4.99 for the transaction. Some food places do take card, but they will charge you a fee as well.

Ask the Community - Christmas In The Park

How much is the entrance fee?

    There's no entrance fee!

It is open in Christmas Day? 12/25/2023?

    Yes

How much does the snowman hot chocolate cost?

    $6.00

    Are there rides this year?

Yes but they're mostly for children

    Dogs is allowed?

Sorry, dogs are not allowed at our walk-through event, but can remain in cars at our drive-through.

How long was the whole drive thru?

The wait to get in is longer. We got there at 6, waited about 45 minutes to get in, and the drive through took about 30 minutes.

Does it cost to get in?

no its free entry in a park, but theres a cost for ice skating and rids

Is it open this christmas eve and christmas?

Yes it is, same hours and everything.

I'm thinking about taking a friend to the ice skating thing close by and I'm 15 and was wondering if they'd let us in without an adult?

    Can't imagine they'd question you.

When is Christmas in the park over?

Hi! Their website says 1/5/2020 :)

What are the hour for Santa? I want to take my son to take a picture with Santa on Christmas Day

Looks like Santa isn't available on Christmas Day... https://www.christmasinthepark.com/p/other/santa-visits

What happens when it rains (or pours like it is probably going to today)?

    You bring an umbrella

Is there any free parking available nearby?

I wasn't able to find any free parking. Some of the nearby restaurants validate the public garages, but you have to eat there to get validation. Christmas in the Park will…

Whats a good time to go?

If you want the freedom of walking around the plaza, go during the day. But if you want the magic of the lights, you have to go in the evening. The drawback is that it can get unbearably crowded in the evening.

Do they have San Jose themed ornaments for sale at the Christmas market?

I didn't see any ornaments for sale this year

    Is there parking?

You have to find parking within the surrounding area i.e parking garages, street parking, neighborhood parkings, etc

Are there plans for a New Year's Eve event?

There will def be events and music (https://www.christmasinthepark.com/events/2017/nye-presented-by-bank-of-the-west) going on at CiP, but no fireworks show. If you want fireworks in DTSJ go to Discovery Meadow (by the Children's Discovery Museum)…

Any suggestions on where to grab food before or after the festivities at Christmas in the Park?

We went to Nick the Greek. Great food. Located on 143 W. Santa Clara St.

Is it worth it to check out during the day?

There are plenty of rides to check out, but it definitely isn't as "magical" during the day!

The event was set up along East Washington, near Historic Murphy Avenue, and stretched to East McKinley (near Target), with the main food vendor and entertainment area taking over an entire parking lot and block. Seating was limited. But there were more than ten food trucks/stands offering pizza, bbq, vietnamese cuisine, ice cream from Mister Softee, and more. There were also drinks stands selling lemonade and alcoholic beverages (of course, wine). I snacked on some savory filipino empanadas from Tita Weewin's and a delicious sushi taco from Aki (a vendor based in SF). I also perused the amazing variety of merchandise tents and displays lining the streets, including some of the most beautiful collections of artwork I've ever seen, especially one of my faves, CatZooArt as well as as a vendor selling awesome vintage menu art. I enjoyed the live music taking place throughout the festival. On the main stage, Ryan Woodward & J Stewart played a variety of songs on the guitar and vocals, like Tom Petty and Dave Matthews Band covers, followed by the Sean Carscadden Trio entertaining the crowd on Saturday afternoon. Other tribute bands were scheduled to take the stage throughout the two-day event too, as well as street performers such as Bob Culbertson, a musician playing lovely tunes, including the Harry Potter theme song, on the chapman stick, a unique string instrument I was unfamiliar with until this day. In addition, the event offered art workshops and fun activities for kids, like a spider jump bungee trampoline and water ballerz (giant "hamster balls" for humans to climb inside and walk on water). No shortage of options for things to see, do, and appreciate. I certainly had a good time.

Greek beer and wine, and cocktails, as well as frappes/coffee, were available on site too. Church tours were scheduled throughout the day, and of course live entertainment. Music and dance performances full of energy and smiles, embracing the culture, and keeping the crowd in good spirits with lovely sounds. This included live music by Mythos, with open public dancing. A unique song selection played, beyond just classic fast-paced greek tunes. Think a mashup of greek melodies and Wipe Out, yup those musicians definitely kept it interesting. The San Jose Jazz Summer Festival is held every year in downtown San Jose…read more It was a great time! Good vibes, multiple stages to choose from, lots of vendors and an awesome grown & sexy vibe. There are levels to the stage access, general access wristband gives access to 4 stages. Then there's an all stages wrist band that gives access to additional stages. Those stages were on the perimeter of the festival at the surrounding hotels and one stage was at the BreakRoom close to the festival main entrance. I arrived to the festival around 12 noon and the lines to enter were long. There are a host of volunteers who show up take the event flow. Day 2 of the festival Patti LaBelle was headlining!! Bring your own chair for a seat at the main stage, people arrive early to set their chair up, so consider this if there's someone you want to see on the main stage. The weather was great and I had a fantastic time. I'll check out next years lineup for sure! Cheers!

Everyone else must have seen the same promo because the line snaked around so much I couldn't find the end. No exaggeration. Was in line over 1 hour to get in. They definitely need to improve this. So, once I got in, the music was great. I missed The Altons due to the line fiasco. I did get to see the Sinceres from East LA. They were very good.

Love all Los Altos festivals and fairs. The more the merrier. Arts & Wine, seasonal, Earth Day,…read moreFine Art in the Park, Pet Parade, Third Street Green, First Fridays, Farmers Market weekly, too many to list but not nearly enough fun. It's all good. The 25th Annual Los Altos Fall Festival took place on Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2, 2016 in downtown Los Altos. I visited both days. The Classic Car Show was a highlight. Amazing antique and vintage sportsters, sedans, and trucks. Also, Little Explorers Petting Zoo. Absolutely adorable little pig the size of a rabbit. Your usual arts and crafts booths, live entertainment, fine wines and micro-breweries, food, children's corner with games and activities, all of it present. This one is a lower key event. The antique and vintage cars on display are much fun to check out, perhaps to chat with the owners. My wife was smitten by the 1967 Porsche Slate Grey 912 (pun intended). TheSlateGrey (Der Graue Fuchs) was ordered by its original owner, George, in the summer of '67 at a cost of $4.5K, and arrived from Germany to San Francisco on the Madam Butterfly - a ship used for Porsches only. 49 years is no joke, all of it happily lived in the Bay Area, has never been restored. All the original parts and interior, paint and engine, can you imagine! The Grey Fox is as good as new and very handsome.

One end cap seemed to be where the bulk of the handmade vendors were, which I appreciated. I'm usually not a big food or Win A Vacation tent goer, so having all the things I was there for at one end was marvelous! We loved the bow vendor Min, who had fabulous prices at $1 for the smaller non-matched bows. Super cute! Another favorite was the beautiful die cut card vendor. I purchased one for my mother and the honey one just for our living room! Topping off the awesome vendors were the handmade coasters at $5 each and Macarons A Go Go with their Yoda themed tasties, a favorite of mine when I lived back in the South Bay! This was a great way to start out or Craft Fair season! Yay Los Altos Fall Festival!
