Called today to make an appointment with Christol. The woman who answered the phone picked up and proceeded to have a conversation with me and salon customers at the same time. Seriously? I was put on hold. Then told I'd have to make a deposit over the phone (something I'd never had to do before, but ok). Before she could take the deposit she told me she'd have to call me back. I never received that call back. **heavy sigh** Mind boggling that Christol hasn't established online booking yet. I went through this at her former Largo location as well. I didn't bother calling back. At this point I'll just find another stylist/salon. read more

Soooo I did a walk-in consultation. I showed the receptionist the style I wanted from Christol's Instagram page. She went in the back and the stylist she brought to do my consultation was named Tee. I showed her the picture. I told her I wanted my hair like this. It was a blonde wig about shoulder length. I explained I wanted the color toned down, not that bright. I explained I like how they made the roots darker too. She told me the cost would be $175 if I got a front lace unit or $250 for a weave. She told me she would braid my hair. I asked if the price would include all that she said YES. So I go buy the unit from the same place the lady purchased her unit from in the picture. I went for my appointment and I should have walked out when she gave me a color chart! I showed her several pictures of what I was aiming for and she said here is a color chart. I'm asked her what is her professional opinion with my skin tone and how the color will take on the wig because the unit was 613. It's very light! Clearly, a second opportunity to grab my wig and walk out when she handed me the color chart. It came out too damn light. The price doubled! It wasn't what I wanted, what I pictured and what I expected. I wasted a LARGE amount of money thinking, I should be good because I'm going to the place who did the style on Instagram. I even asked during the consultation does she have a personal page show casing her styles, she said no... I'm not sure if that is a rule in the salon but what I do know. I'm highly disappointed. Yvonne has been my go-to girl for my 4C hair trims for the last 2 years. I'm amazed by how much my hair has grown since seeing her. I love a shaped fro and she shapes it beautifully for me. Very easy to make an appointment with her and she's quick. I wash and dry my hair at home, and do not get my hair styled, so I'm literally in and out in 30 minutes. This was my second time at this salon and both times I was not completely satisfied with my hair. I recently went and asked for a certain cut and style. Well 200 hundred dollars later and I still didn't get the cut I wanted or the style. Ms Tee worked on my hair and I showed her the look I wanted and she didn't even come close to what I asked for. I could have went to hair cuttery and got the same jacked up cut for cheaper. I saw other stylist that was interacting with the clients to achieve the look they was asking for. I didn't feel that same attention and customer service from my stylist. Also I have a top fade and was still charged 95 for color ,85 for rods when I said I want a curly look not flexi rods and then and 20 bucks for a jacked up cut that looks nothing like the pics I showed her. I've tried 2 stylist so far and don't want to be disappointed again so I'll just try another salon. Amazing!!! Came here to get a haircut for my 10 year old daughter. The photo does not do it any justice. Christol was extremely professional and we will definitely be back to keep it up. She was so attentive and even showed me ways that we could style her hair once we got home. We called ahead and made an appointment which I recommend as it started to get busier by the hour. Kudos to the other stylists as well as I could see them communicating with customers and parents of customers. They do kids and adults. 5 stars all around the board. Okay so I usually don't write Yelp reviews but this place is so amazing that I had to do it justice!!! I WAS the type to dread going to the salon because I never left satisfied. KEY WORD WASSS! ....I am now a faithful client of this salon (I go to Kiana) but all the stylist seem to do great work. My hair is natural but Kiana has people asking me on a daily is my hair relaxed ...she works wonders. She's also hooked me up with some curls. I don't wear weave but trust I've seen her do it all. I read some of the reviews and it sucks to see people complaining about the wait time. If you are in a rush then don't go on a weekend(but what really good salon doesn't have a wait) ..if you looking for an empty salon then idk but if your looking for a BOMB hairstyle THIS IS YOUR PLACE! So I went in to get my eyebrows waxed and a possible color/trim. Little did I know that I would walk out just absolutely in love with the color that I chose! These ladies know how to make a woman feel simply beautiful!! What was even better was that they knew about the military's regs on color and helped choose one that would be within regs and yet still fun and vibrant!! Very disappointed I cannot support this black owned establishment. Christol came recommended by someone else so I immediately made an appt based on the person's hair color and style. When I went for my appt, I had been there being serviced by 2 other women (for relaxer, wash, and dry) for about 5 hours before Christol ever came over to introduce herself or ask what style I was getting. A glutton for punishment, I still hadn't gotten my hair colored so I made another appt a few weeks later (wanting to have a fresh look for the holidays). Christol arrived to the shop an hour late and then gave me attitude the entire time because I wasn't happy with waiting on her, yet again. I paid the ridiculously high price for an appt with her but I didn't mind because I understood her time was valuable and I never mind paying for good quality service but my time is valuable too. I wish WE could be a bit more professional. Subpar treatment shouldn't be the norm or what's expected when we go to our salons. Those days of sitting in the hair salon all day while the hairdresser runs errands or double books you are over for me. I'm going back to personal style suites and the hair cuttery. My daughter and I had an 11:00 appointment at the Clinton shop today. My daughter arrived before I did and already knew what she wanted. I on the other can never decide. I wanted to get color but after talking to the receptionist, who was very friendly and professional, I was told I couldn't get an exact price until I spoke with the stylist. Based on the conversation with the receptionist, I had an idea that it was going to cost around $200+ just for my hair. As I finished talking to the receptionist the stylist (Asian lady) walks up to us, it's 11:09 and this is her first time approaching us. The first thing out of her mouth was "I don't have all day, I get off at 12:00". It's 11:09 and you get off at 12:00. Who's hair are you gonna do in 50 minutes? How rude can you be? First, As a business owner myself, I would never say that to a client or customer. Rudeness does not get my money. We left and went to another Solon. Thanks, but no thanks! I went to the salon after looking at the Instagram for years. I wanted to get my haircut for the first time. I asked for a specific haircut style and color. The stylist washed my hair then put a permanent dye in it which completely burned my scalp. I was not pleased with the style nor did she achieve the color I wanted. It was not worth the $300 I paid. I will now have to find another stylist to correct original cut and color. I am completely disappointed. read more

After seeing this salon on instagram, I was very excited to go in an get my hair done. I have a short hair cut and it seems that this salon specializes in those. I had an 11am appointment with the owner, Christol. I was scheduled for a perm, cut & style and partial sew-in. I went in to have my hair instantly permed by one of the assistants, after that I sat under the dryer for over 3 hours waiting for it to by styled. After waiting for about 4 hours, Christol still was not ready to do my hair. I decided to leave and get my hair done elsewhere. I'm sure Christol does amazing hair but she seems to be HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL! She did not address me the entire time that I was there. Instead I had to constantly ask her assistant stylists how much longer it was going to take. The salon still had the nerve to charge me for the perm even though I was in there for 6 hours. Although I like the way my hair turned out, hair stylists have to learn to respect their clients time. I wanted a certain cut style but since I was pressed for time and after 3 hours of being there I just asked for my hair to be curled. If clients are more than a determined amount time late for their appointments they need to be rescheduled or be placed as "walk ins" and have to wait behind customers who arrive on time. If I come to my appointment on time, I expect to be out within a reasonable amount of time. It's ridiculous how much time is wasted just sitting around, thus minus 2 stars. And I don't even recall Christol introducing herself or asking me my name or any kind of pleasantries before she started on my hair. I understand she's extremely popular and busy but it's the little things that go a long way. Then I dislike, the "no tip" on the debit/credit cards. I know they don't want to pay the merchant fees but it's such an inconvenience. Just make sure you visit the atm before you arrive (minus an additional star). I will not be back. Went to Christol's yesterday for a trim, color and style. I previously visited the Largo location (approx a year ago) and was ready for annual hair color change. I arrived a 1/2 early, because I know others who have had bad experiences with waiting, so i just came early. When i got there I was greeted by the receptionist, who was very polite, welcoming and friendly. I went to sit down and was immediately called back. Christol came over and asked what i wanted to do, gave me two options and quoted a price. I appreciated this, as the last time I had a bit of sticker shock, but it was well worth it. The process began within 10 minutes. I opted for a three process color, trim and flexirod set. Her assistant was friendly and the timing was as I expected. Over all I love my color, trim and style, but there were a few hiccups. 1 - Her assistant tried to start the final color process. I stopped that. If I am paying the full price for Christol to do it, then I want her to do all of my color. If an assistant is doing anything other than washing, prepping or taking out rollers, then the price should be less. Maybe this is OK for a regular customer, but not someone who comes once a year and comes to the best to get it done. 2 - Probably the biggest issue here. I had/am having an allergic reaction to the black dye. And it wasnt noticed until I got home. Im kind of shocked that she didnt do a skin test for the black dye considering the high amounts of PPD in it. She didnt ask if i had any allergies, or if I had gone black before. Granted she colored my hair a year ago, but there is a big difference in blonde and black dyes. And the black was well past my hairline, which i believe caused the reaction. Fortunately, I had an epi pen for peanut allergies and some Benadryl, but I know PPD reactions will get worse before they get better. I have to knock of two stars for the allergic reaction alone. Will i be back, YES. Christol is truly one of the best in this area for natural hair care and professionalism. read more

I went to Salon Christol for a single process color and highlights. When I made my appointment, I was told that it would take some time and to be prepared to be in the salon for a while. on the day of my appointment, I arrived and was immediately taken back and my hair was prepped for color. My hair is natural, so the assistant washed and blow dried my hair. Then Christol came over to see what color to confirm what color I wanted. She immediately went to work. I like that the salon is clean, quiet, and relaxing. There isn't a lot of loud gossiping, tv's blasting, eating ,etc. Christol was pleasant, she is not an overly talkative person, but that is fine with me because I'm not a fan of small talk. She finished coloring my hair, washed it and let it air dry. My hair didn't quite turn out like I expected it and I think there was a little miscommunication about how the color would turn out, but it still came out pretty and I have received TONS of compliments on the color, so all in all I would recommend Salon Christol and I will be back for my touchup. read more

LOVED this place; LOVED the staff; and, especially LOVED CHRISTOL! She is extremely nice, professional, attentive. When I made my appointment, the professional, mature receptionist asked me what service I needed and prepared me for a long day. She explained (all over the phone) that my custom color would require time to process and that Christol would be servicing other clients. She also gave me an "at least" cost, and indicated that Christol would have to tell me the final price. The salon is clean and quiet - a huge plus. No one spoke loudly; there are no televisions; or other nerve racking distractions. When Christol is working, she does not speak loudly over her clients' heads... Oh and by the way, my hair color is amazing!! It is everything I wanted and more. Christol is very gifted in her color application and well worth the cost. The salon is clean and well-maintained. The hours are reasonable. I booked an appointment for 7:30am on a Saturday figuring that I would be the first appointment so I would get out at a reasonable time. I arrived on time and entered the salon where I learned that I was the first customer booked for this day. My hair was started and things were fine until I noticed that I was being left under the dryer so that my stylist could start doing two other customers' hair. I had planned to leave by 1030am as I had prior obligations at 1030am I was still sitting under a dryer after my hair had already been blow dried straight. I politely asked to pay for the services that had been done (hair washed, blow dried, hydration moisture keratin treatment). I was charged $40 for wasting 3 hours in their shop and bad customer service. I would recommend that they evaluate how they treat their customers. read more

Incredibly disappointed. I recently moved to the area and was amazed at the IG presence of this salon so I figured I would try it out. I called in and was scheduled with a stylist by the name of Francine. I am disappointed in the techniques or lack there of that she used in doing a silk press. I specifically asked to add loose curls to the silk press as I was looking for volume and bounce. Instead the stylist put a pomade throughout my hair which weighed it down. There were other questionable techniques used during the wash and styling process. Notably after adding conditioner to my hair the stylist placed a warm towel around my hair stating that it would add moisture back in. I found this odd as I have always gone under a hooded dryer for conditioning. Also, during the styling process she completely straightened my hair with a flat iron then passed back through with the flat iron to add curls which was counter productive and additional unnecessary heat. Normally a silk press (with curls) is carried out by straightening and curling at the same time. A silk press is suppose to be light weight and silky ... I received neither. A complete waste of time, money, and gas as I drove well over 30 plus mins (one way). I believe the stylist should be educated on how to properly do a silk press. read more

I went to this salon to get my hair colored and styled. Before the stylist did my hair I told her my hair was relaxed and of it wasn't a good idea to bleach my hair I was perfectly fine with that. Her response was "let me ask Christol". She then came back and said she said it was ok and began the process.....she lifted my hair to a bleach blonde...then put a toner in it that took it down several shades which defeated the purpose of lifting it that light...so what really was the point in processing my hair that long??? She then styles it and sends me on my way...with a total due of $200..I wasn't honestly satisfied with the work but I hate telling someone there work basically sucks. My hair was sooooooo dry. As she styled and combed through my hair it was already breaking and shedding. Two days later my hair was itching so bad from it being dry I decided to just wash my hair....ALL OF MY HAIR LITERALLY FELL OUT!!!! Where do I begin? I rented a car to drive from Philly to the Clinton location because I was so impressed by the Instagram pictures on Christol's page and was willing to pay her for her services, which she told me via DM that she couldn't actually quote but that for the services I wanted (a hair cut, color, and an undercut) would start at $300. I didn't mind because I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" so me and my sister headed out to Maryland and I was super excited...had been talking about it for months and it was finally gonna happen. We got there a little late, due to GPS issues and traffic but I called ahead to let them know and they said that it would be alright. When I got there I noticed how beautiful the salon was but the people initially weren't so welcoming. No one came to me to ask what I was there for, if I had an appointment for like 15-20 minutes. A guy came to me and asked me what I was there for and I told him that I had an appointment with Christol and showed him the picture of the style I wanted. He took the picture to her and she said that I couldn't get the color that I wanted because it would need to be a process being as though my hair was dark brown and I wanted a pastel pink/ rose gold color. I finally was seated in the chair of an Asian lady whose name I didn't catch and she informed me that she was Christol's assistant. This kind of alarmed me but I settled myself because again,my transformation was finally about to happen. The very first thing she did was give me an undercut. She then cut the sides of my hair and left the top alone as I wanted the length at the top still. She then put what they called 'lifter' in my hair which essentially was to bleach my hair. She put it everywhere including the back where she had JUST done the undercut with a razor!!! I was in such pain and when I told her she just causally stated that it was an effect of the processor. But I knew this was wrong because the back of my head was on fire! After applying this twice in my hair, I sat. She then told me that I would need yet another application of lifter if I wanted to accomplish the rose gold color that I wanted. I reluctantly declined because there was no way I was going through that pain again and paying another $85 to do so. I then decided on an alternative color for myself and the lifter was washed out. Then is when Christol came to apply the color. She wasn't very warm, or friendly. I was so taken aback because I just assumed that she would be this people person based off of her Instagram page and the work she showcased there. I sat for my color to settle in and that was washed out. Then is when my sister pointed out that I had burns in the back of my head. Yes CHEMICAL BURNS! She took a picture for me and I felt so sick that my experience not only had not be what I imagined it would be, but worse. I told her assistant that she had burned me and she basically said that it was normal. I then asked Christol why did her assistant cut my hair with a razor first and then apply a chemical to my hair, open pores included..to which she replied that she does it like that to make sure that she doesn't miss a spot. I don't do hair and I know that didn't make sense. I was visibly upset and no one seemed to care. Her assistant was even combative and refuting mine and my sister's claims that I was burned because of the order that she did things. For the life of me I can't understand why you would cut someone's hair with clippers just to put a bleaching agent on top of it. My sister kept reminding me that I could sue for the services I had been rendered. Her assistant then apologized finally and applied aloe Vera to my burns and she had the nerve to ask me to take another picture of it after she applied the aloe because it already looked better, that was a joke! It looked the same -_- obviously. My undercut looks nothing like the picture, I actually hate it and Do not think that her assistant had any experience with accomplishing a great looking designed undercut. Long story short I truly wish I came to the Yelp reviews on this salon and not just based my decision to go off of pictures on her page because that obviously isn't enough. The only thing I like is my color, other than that this whole experience is a NO for me. I have actual burn scars in the back of my head because of this BOTCHED visit. I guess you have to have status or be a regular for your hair to come out the way she showcases on her Instagram page. I went to the salon with my best friend. We both got color and trim; bob and short bowl cut; nothing extravagant. We were serviced by different stylists. Cons: We were there for close to five hours on a Sunday. Color and wash technique lacked finesse. They just sort of slap dye on without regard for it staining the skin. As a result, you may, as we did, walk away with a stained hairline...maybe the entire scalp. Kinda Pro: They mostly got the color right for one of us. Price was under $160 each. Will I go back? If i could give a zero for this salon I would. This is one of the most unprofessional shops I have ever been to in my life. They are extremely over priced and for the high prices they are too slow. If you are going to overcharge women you should at least be efficient and the quality of your customer service should match your prices. I was scheduled for a relaxer cut and style. All I got was a relaxer, shampoo/conditioner and burns on my neck and behind my ears. I too like many others was excited because the haircuts on instagram seem to be excellent. I have short hair and need a good cut. I was referred to this salon by a friend. I had an appointment at 1015. My hair was started on within 10 minutes. The girl Brianna introduced herself and just grabbed a relaxer to start processing my hair. I stopped her and asked what kind she chose and explained that design essentials dries my hair out. I requested she use a different kind. Once she started my relaxer it took way too long to apply. I began having burning at the nap of my neck in areas where there should have only been base. At this time she wasn't even 1/3 of the way done. I told her and she just applied some water to the area. Once she finally finished she took me to the bowl and sat me there. I told her the burning had returned again and it was worse. She rinsed the back of my hair and walked away. After a few minutes, some other person who did not introduce herself walked up and began rinsing out my hair. She put atlas 5 different things in my hair still without introducing herself or explaining what she was doing. Then she placed me under the dryer with the last substance and walked away. I sat under the dryer for almost 1 hour with what I believe was conditioner on my head. Which I have never experienced before. I finally spoke up and asked who was rinsing me out because I had been there for 3 hours and only had a relaxer and conditioner. I explained that I need to leave I had been there way too long. Brianna sat me by the sink and said she would have some one rinse me out. Again she just walked away. Finally, some one in passing said have you been rinsed yet. I told her no and stated my frustration with being in a shop for 3 hours and only receiving a relaxer and shampoo conditioner. She said well talk to the receptionist. I offered to pay for my relaxer but explained that I am in customer service for 3 people to touch my head and only 2 introduced themselves and no one explained what they were doing. She told me to quiet down not everyone in the shop needs to know my issues. I told her this was horrible customer service and I can't wait any longer. If I am paying 165 for relaxer, cut and style, the customer service needs to be better. She said well we can rinse out your conditioner before you leave. That was it. I refused because I didn't want to wait anymore. She handed me my coat and basically asked me to stop talking about it because she didn't charge me for the relaxer. I left their shop with conditioner and a shower cap on my head and had to go search out another stylist to finish my hair. What's even worse I have burns on my neck and my ears from the relaxer. I have never been treated so unprofessionally in my life. NO APOLOGIES or anything. Maybe the other women in that shop can afford to sit for hours and hours for services. However, I am a professional woman and my free time is valuable to me and does not include wasting a day in a shop were people can't be bothered to introduce themselves, explain what they are doing or at least give updates on my expected wait time. Every time I went I have always spent well over $70, and the way I was treated the last two times I went was horrible. I called to make an appointment and it wasn't the normal receptionist which is nice. After the women got my information she said, "Make sure you show up!" I have always showed up to my appts and when I can't I make sure to call, so that was rude of her to say to a well paying customer. Then I ask the receptionist if it would be possible for me to get a fill in and a pedicure, she said she would ask the technician. When I got my hair done by Fran she mentioned (after she finished) that I needed my ends trim, which she should've told me before she started flat ironing my hair. Then as I waiting up front for my ticket the nail tech comes over and is looking me up and down and asked what I needed done. Then she said she has been gone and had to ask the receptionist if they do acrylic nails! (how do you not know!) So as she walks in the back to where the station is I hear her and Fran talking, and she says she doesn't see it. Fran asks her why is she looking when she doesn't even want to do my nails. Then she comes up to me and says that she can't find the liquid, after she stares at my feet but before she says I really need a fill in. So I told her nevermind, paid for my services (which I'm not happy with) and left. Will never set foot in here again, highly disappointed. I had my mom come here, my sister and was going to make an appt for my grandmother. Guess I will have the koreans do my nails find someplace with lower prices and better stylists and techs. After getting a botched dye job the week before I was able to call in on a Saturday morning and get an appt with Christol herself . Blessings to the most high on that one because she truly did grace me with a beautiful professional color . Her demeanor is quite but assured for every head she touches . She would tell each client what she was going to do . Have the staff help with the subtle things then dig in on the color and cuts for each client. The down side like most black salons is that I was literally there all day for this makeover . But from what I gathered her staff including herself barely leave the floor . Not one person stepped away to take breaks or eat in the back, so it shows how dedicated they are to touching each person and getting you out the door . It's a little pricey but for color at a European salon I'd expect to pay the same price . She is excellent at her craft and charges accordingly . read more

After moving to the area about 4 years ago I had the toughest time finding someone to do my hair the way it was done back home. I received a few bad hair cuts, some botched color jobs and some awful styles then I was given Christol's info by another stylist. After also googling and finding them, I didn't think twice about scheduling an appointment!! I've been getting my hair done at both locations almost two years now. I love it! Christol does my hair and she's awesome! She may seem quiet but that's because she's about her business! She's personable, funny and talented! You'll never catch Christol taking a call or texting. I've never even seen her stop to eat! Everyone there is professional and polite. Sure, there have been one off occasions where I've waited longer than I wanted to; but that's what happens when everyone wants to go to her. I was given a complimentary facial after waiting a little longer than normal. By the time my facial was done, she was ready to do my hair. I enjoy that the salon is clean, not overly loud like most salons. They are always open and offer a variety of products and services. I'd highly recommend! read more

She was a straight shooter and gave me the best cut I've had since I moved to this area. Visited the salon for the first time to be styled by YVONNE for a color, trim, and style. She failed horribly! The color was not what I asked for and she totally messed up the style to the point that Lakee stepped in and attempted to fix it. During my consultation with Yvonne she should've told me that she couldn't achieve the style I asked for with the length of my hair and I would've chose another one. She didn't and her attempt was a complete fail. She didn't even know how to fix it after she messed it up. I asked her how we could resolve this so my hair could look presentable. She told me she didn't think I would be satisfied with anything at this point. I had no confidence in her ability to do my hair over. Lakee really tried to fix it but because Yvonne left so much hair on the top rather than cutting it, there was only so much she could do. I told Lakee she could cut my hair twice and she didn't want to because she literally would've had to start from the beginning. In the end, I was not satisfied with the color or style. On top of that, I was told by the receptionist that Yvonne was one of their most senior stylist......sad and very disappointing. They took $60 off my bill. read more
