We stopped by Christy's for the first time because it was national donut day. We've had these donuts before as friends have bought them but this was our first time coming in to the store and getting a donut. I absolutely love cake donuts and prefer them over stuff like Krispy Kreme so this was right up my alley. It was late in the day, about 6:30 PM. Christys is open 24 hours according to Google but when I've had donuts from here in the morning they have been much better. And that makes sense of course. Even so, I'd have preferred a Dunkin, but this was convenient and in my neighborhood. It was a good donut. Don't get me wrong. I'd probably grab another at some point. But it's not a to die for, must come every day sort of thing for me. I've just had better donuts from other small shops. The prices are fantastic though. Can't beat 3 donuts for $2 read more

This was my first time here, this place is located fairly close to my house which is nice (El Cajon) (jamacha rd) I read a lot of negative reviews about this place horrible customer service (the lady who runs the donut shop). I was preparing myself for the same experience. I assumed I would be standing there and the lady would come at me saying, "hurry up and buy". Quite the opposite So, I pulled up and the place was empty I walk inside and it felt like no one was there, nobody behind the cashier, but I heard someone working in the back. which is fine I got to look at their menu and really gauge on which donuts I wanted. Eventually a lady emerged from the back, greeting me so I asked to get 2 dozen donuts mixed and matched. The lady was not like super duper welcoming. But she was very nice to throw in extra donuts in each of my dozen donut boxes. I paid 21$ for 2 dozen donuts and 2 apple filled speciality donuts. I used to live at Jamacha Greens just down the street and my mom and I would walk here all the time. Back then (late 80's early 90's) it was called Chi's Donuts, don't know if the new owners are related, but Mr Chi was awesome. Always greeted us like we were family. I had passed this establishment for more than a decade and this is the first time I actually had the craving for donuts. A block had gone by and my tummy and brain in unison told my hands to turn the car around. I am a slave for my faculties so the rest of the body followed. Surprisingly enough there was a line (must be the morning rush) which gave enough time to narrow down my decision. I ordered old fashioned donuts; chocolate, glazed, maple, and original. Now that they've hired a new younger worker, the older grumpy (probably overworked) lady isn't always there. The man behind the counter is a RIP off. Me & my son picked out 3 donuts and the total came to $3.45. While I handed him the money I noticed the " box of 12 for $5 bucks" sign. When I asked if we can get a box he replied " no, I don't have any more ". If you want real donuts, you need to go to mom n pop shops and this one is one of the best. The donuts here have been consistently good in the 20+ years I've had them. I've never once had a problem with the donuts being stale. Service is quick and always given with a smile. Being open 24 hours a day is an added bonus. Once upon a time, there was a girl named Alissandra. She went out with her friends, and somehow, they ended up in El Cajon. Alas, this wasn't an area that Alissandra or her friends were familiar with. They started driving around in her friend's car, creating pseudo-havoc, when, all of a sudden, the car died. With Alissandra tucked into the backseat with two other friends, they somehow pulled into a parking lot, and the Christy's Donuts sign glowed bright in the dark of night. Shockingly, the donut place was still open. They were waiting for another friend to show up and help w/ the car. In the meantime, Alissandra and her friends bought out the store in glazed donut holes. Sure, that sounds weird, but they were the most delicious donut holes they'd ever eaten (and, only 2 out of 5 of them were high, so it wasn't COMPLETELY for that reason. ) Eventually, Alissandra and her friends devoured the donut holes, got the car running again, and headed off into the night. My family and I have been coming here for over 20 years, however, after today, never again. They used to be a 5 star, but have gotten worse and worse over the years. The variety available at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon was nothing but chocolate, maple, and glazed raises donuts. No jelly filled, no cake donuts, no crullers...and the lady working there simply said "no, sorry", and went in the back when I asked about variety. *Gave them another chance today 2-21-16, and they rocked it. I've never been in here (donuts are the devil's food) but I was in the area, had time to kill & I've been craving donuts for a while. It's 3pm so there's zero customers when I walk in. If I owned a business and a customer comes in when the place is completely dead and I'm not doing anything, I'd be delighted. I smiled real big and said hi when I walked in and was greeted with a scowl. I felt uncomfortable but the killer for me was when I said she could keep the 30 cents change from my 70 cents purchase, she rolled her eyes, slammed the coins into the jar and walked in the back. Not all donut shops have apple turnovers and they have the best one I've had here. The search for a good donut shop near the new pad in SD brought us to Christy's Donuts. I remember when this place first opened years ago. I'm sure it has changed hands a few times, but the name and location have remained the same. They were relatively busy, with a few patrons enjoying their morning sweets in the indoor seating area. Others, who seemed to be regulars, were lining up to place their orders. We opted for a dozen. Their apple fritters and cinnamon rolls are HUGE and included in the dozen for a slight up charge. $7.50 for a dozen assorted, plus the upcharge for the bigger donuts isn't too bad. Wait though, there's more. You get three free cake donuts when you purchase a dozen donuts. The staff was friendly and we were greeted promptly upon entry. We were in and out relatively quickly and on our way to share our catch with the rest of the clan. I wanted to grab a cup of coffee, hoping to find a diamond in the rough. Can't say I found it. I wasn't too impressed with the coffee, but I am admittedly a coffee snob. We will continue the search of the best donut in town, but would not hesitate to return to Christy's. read more

Christy's makes the best donuts I've had. Their apple fritters are the size of my 4 year olds head and so good. The prices are really cheap to boot! Some people mention the owner lady that works behind the counter. She can be gruff, and her English isn't perfect but it adds to the atmosphere. Ive stopped by this place and various hours of the day and their are some serious issues here. If you go there early in the morning they have a great selection of donuts,etc and the selection is fresh endless food.If you go there latter in the day like after 3 or 4 pm there is very little if anything left in terms of a selection to choose from. The owners need a serious course of human relation skills no matter what time of day you go there.Ive personally witnessed folks buying 5-6 dozens donuts with few people in the store and the people are always hurry up,hurry up I have work in the back.Please sell your shop if you don't have the slightest sense of gratitude to the people who support your business and lets someone who has some social skills run your shop.The donuts are good but Ive never ever heard the word thank you said to myself or anyone that buy from them.Folks that's a basic. This place also sells a lot of day old donuts for $5 a box which people like,the price are fair, the coffee and other drinks good so id still go back...
