It's a dive bar in a small town. You want drinks? They got them. You want to meet characters? They got them too.

We absolutely love this place and it's our favorite brewery in Red Lodge -- especially for their…read morefantastic cider selection. The ciders are consistently great and we always make a point to stop in when we're in town. However, visiting in the off-season can be tricky. When we were there, only one employee was working the bar. We ordered a beer and a cider flight, but after we ordered several more customers came in and lined up. The bartender understandably tried to take care of everyone, but ended up serving at least six new arrivals -- pouring beers and running payments -- while our order never came. After about 20 minutes we had to leave, which was really disappointing because we were genuinely looking forward to it. This isn't a complaint about the staff -- she was clearly doing her best -- just a heads-up: if you visit during slower months, be prepared for limited staffing and longer waits (and possibly no food service). We'll definitely still come back... just maybe during busier season next time.

I was leaning towards something mediocre put there to drain the pockets of a would-be thristy, or perhaps hungry, passerby... We drove through the hoards of people to the outskirts, where the crowds thinned & the parking opened up to a large lot. Cool. So far, so good. The red building was easy enough to spot & there was music playing from a tent in the field. We headed for the building door from the back of the building and found ourselves sniffing the air... could that be house smoked meat? Yes, yes, it is... and making us walk by a smoker is a sure-fire (pun intended) way to get us to buy your food along with your beer! On to the bar we went, where we were met by an energetic 1 day a week worker. (We know because she mentioned it, we weren't THAT nosey!) She gave us a run through & we ordered our BOGO brews & an order of pulled pork tacos with black beans to split. Were they spicy tacos, no. Were they on flour instead of corn, yes. Was the pork tender, juicy, flavorful & smoky... YES! The black beans were a great side choice if I must say so myself & both paired well with our beer options. Dually Double IPA in at 4.5 for Kel - n/a from me Dog Pull Porter in at 3.75 from Kel & 4 from me Unfortunately, the only to-go option then was growlers & that didn't work for us at the time. Next time through, perhaps it will or crowlers (other options) will be available. We would indeed go back. On paying, they did miss the bogo beer & offered us our choice of refund and recharge correctly or 2 free drinks next visit. As we haf no idea when we'd be back, we sadly had to opt for the refund. I want to emphasize that it was NOT an international overcharge & it was immediately corrected.

And we were THOSE people, unintentionally. We showed up 15min before the kitchen closed (not knowing there was or expecting there to be a kitchen) and 45min before the brewery itself closed. I can't lie, we've been crazy road-tripping it & we were, again, excited when they mentioned food. I'm not sure if the kitchen staff were as excited as us, but they didn't let on that we were putting them out, even with such a late order. We did try to be accommodating- I went so far as to say "give me anything you need to get rid of." Of course, the barkeep had already taken our orders by that point & I guess that was that. Chicken fried steak for me & a brisket wrap for the hubs - we could have (& probably should have) split either & would have had plenty to eat. We both took food with us to the hotel & we had leftovers for breakfast (2-fer). The food came up fast & the flavors were good. I appreciated the non-traditional take on the chicken fried steak. No country gravy here... she ate like schnitzel which went well with the beer! Speaking of, on to the reason for stopping, beer. Sage Creek IPA 3.75 Mountain Wheat IPA 4 Sand Coulee Red 4.25 Heart Mountain Hefe 3.75 Service couldn't be better. I can't stress enough how much I appreciate not being made to feel like I shouldn't be there- even being encouraged to enjoy both the food & beer, despite the late arrival. Kudos!

I think a brewer or owner was in a table talking on the phone the whole time. The beer was 4/5. The side salad was big 5/5. The sandwich/ wraps were 3/5. A bit too much liquid or slightly chewy chicken. The Thai wrap was more like sesame. I'm a huge fan of the Mule Kicking Rye. It was the spiciest beer ever. I would have bought a 6 pack if they had them. The IPAs weren't my favorite. the wheat ipa was the best of them. The flying peanut butter stout in the can is their best overall.

They do have a few parking spots there. The stairs from the parking lot leads to their entrance. Fairly large restaurant. You can just take any table available. The menus are at the bar, once you finalize your options, order is taken at the counter. We stopped here for lunch. It was a late launch and this place was deserted, hardly couple of table were occupied. Menu is typical pub options. There's a Bison Cheeseburger on the menu - it's a half pound bison patty on that burger served with fries on the side. Also ordered garden salad with grilled chicken and the buffalo chicken sandwich. Service was great, the staffs were very friendly. They served the food very quickly as well. The bison cheeseburger was really impressive. The sandwich and the salad were good too. It's a $$ place. Super casual counter service, with usual pub faves as well as some local flavors. We went with the: - hog wings - small but meaty, fried halfway to chicharrones with a Korean sweet sauce on the side, kinda salty even plain on its own - bison cheeseburger - solid burger, excellent and generous fries - brisket sandwich - generous portion of meat, kinda dry so I asked for more huckleberry bbq sauce on the side otherwise not very flavorful. Cole slaw was meh but I don't like Cole slaw (they wouldn't swap for anything else). Again excellent fries! Chased all this meaty salty heavy food with a local brew. Think $75 before tax/tip was pretty normal tourist prices - we were stuffed and didn't finish all the fries and buns.
