Alina was such a warm and pleasant gal to assist me. This was my first visit as she made me feel so at home. She walked me through the process of the taco as well as giving me suggestions when I asked. I was surprised to know that I could have sampled the variety of freshly made meat options they offered. This is probably the worst and most expensive mexican food restaurant ever almost $30 for 2 burritos and 2 drinks! The burrito had almost no meat and full of rice and beans i asked to add a lil more meat she charged me $1.75 plus $1.75 for guacamole that was so watery it leaked thru my burrito and it made the whole burrito cold! Very rude customer service. They guy at the register had a condecending tone and seemed to be irritated that I was ordering in the first place. He didn't greet me or say any words when I initially went up to him to order, his eyes were averted away from me as if I was not even there. I could barely hear him when he did speak and I had to ask him to repeat himself 3 times, at which each time he did not speak up or respond clearly, just mumbling. Honest felt like communicating with a grumpy child. He didn't even give me my receipt. When my order was ready he placed my food next to him and shouted "hello? Sir?" In a rude tone. It felt very uncomfortable. Just a lot of negativity was in the air. They guy also only gave me 4 chips when I got my meal. The food was okay, it was mainly the guy at the register. AMAZING MEX!! ( I ought to know, LOL) we had a bowl, giant and enough for lunch and leftovers! Spanish rice, pintos AND black beans, chicken, pico, citantro and a bit of onion. The bowl was excellent, chicken was moist with bits is crispiness -not fatty nor greasy. We also had a carnitas tacos combo with Spanish rice and refried beans. Carnitas is amazing (there was a giant pot bubbling and cooking more - very authentic technique made my eyes tear as it's been a long time since I've seen such a wonderful sight.) Spanish rice was nice but all forms of beans are EXCELLENT!!! A very good value for the $$$. WE WILL RETURN FOR MORE. They far exceeded our expectations on every level. Came in at 9:30, they close at 10, but right away felt unwelcomed. The female employee gave us dirty looks. The guy who made our food seemed like he couldn't care any less for his job and had a sanitation bucket on the food counter top....that's a food safety and sanitation violation and disgusting. The mahi mahi was not good, it tasted and smelled old, and the steak was extremely greasy. The place seemed interesting just because of the title but the food was barely edible. The guy who had to cook my fish also showed that unpleasant signs of not wanting us there and not wanting to make the fish. The food is great. The service was terrible. They misunderstood my order and I was not upset by this at all, however they seemed super inconvenienced. I ordered a burrito AND tacos and they misunderstood that I needed both. NO BIG DEAL. Except for how rude he was about it! They made me wait while they served other costumers before finishing my order because they were so annoyed that they had to make me something else. Wayyyy mediocre. Maybe it's because of what I ordered though. I had the flautas - the offering was 3 of them for $6.99 so I expected something better than the frozen joints I saw them put in the deep fryer after I ordered. I mean, I could have gone to the grocery store and accomplished what they did for much less. The verdict, still underwhelming after the deep frying. I also had rice and beans a la carte- they were okay. I did appreciate that the chips they served were warm and I got a free serving of guac bc I checked in on Yelp. Service was pretty decent except for the cashier guy who was sagging his pants like the hot boys in '03. Facilities were clean. Disgusting!! I used to go to the Chronic Taco in downtown Huntington on 11th years ago. I moved to Chicago 10 years ago and every time I would come to OC to visit, I had to go to Chronic Taco. I have recently moved back to Orange County and came to this location. I ordered 2 Tacos: Al Pastor and Carnitas. Both were inedible, in the Carnitas Taco there was a bone that chomped down on and scratched the roof of my mouth. In the Al Pastor Taco there was cartilage still in! I could not even finish it. Chronic used to be soo good and fresh, the meat was flavorful. It's disappointing to come back to California and have such a bad Taco. read more

Chronic Tacos is like hipper Chipotle without a tofu option, pretty much. They make your food in front of you with your input, and you can get a monster burrito, which is a burrito wrapped in a quesadilla (MURICA!). All of the beans (refried, pinto, black) are vegetarian. White/lime rice is free of animal products. My friend and I each ordered a veggie burrito and had wonderful customer service from Samantha. We weren't rushed, she immediately knew answers to our questions about what was vegan, and joked around with us. The burritos were enormous, like Chipotle size, although I think my friend said maybe even bigger. I couldn't finish mine. Checking in on the Yelp app scored us free chips and guac, which were fairly good; the chips are extremely thin and crunchy, which I liked a lot. They have a Coke Freestyle machine if you dig soda. "American-ized" Mexican food at its worst. I got the nachos with the carne asada. All they put on it was cheese, beans, and meat and it costs a little over $8. They put it under the broiler and handed it to me. I asked whether its extra charge to add other toppings and they said only the guac is extra. I don't know why they assumed I wanted nothing else on top. I got their sauce and the pico de gallo on top as well. Their sauce is disgusting and really ruined the flavor for me. It's a vinegary mayonnaise type sauce and tasted like the sauce you would find on a burger. The chips were oily and gross. The girls behind the counter were nice but the surfer dude-looking guy with the backwards SnapBack hat made a stupid, sarcastic comment to me when I first came in that made me feel uncomfortable and annoyed. The beans are made of pure salt. The rice had no flavor and tasted like it was pre-cooked. The corn tirtillas are not heated up properly and they were not fresh. Super disappointed the last two times I've ordered my battered shrimp tacos. Rolled like del taco tacos, soggy and a mess. Had to throw them away last night. I get we are in quarantine but that doesn't mean let quality slip so badly. Also concerning was the big group of people clumped together in the restaurant leaning over food prep areas. Granted there is a guard but with such a tight space and so many people not good. If the guard doesn't reach the ceiling it's leaving people exposed. We're Supposed to be wearing masks right now-none of the patrons had masks creating a concerning situation for workers and food delivery people. Then of course people eventually getting the food. Felt very unsafe. I've seen the owner in there and am pretty sure he wouldn't be cool with any of this. He needs to make some surprise visits during dinner rushes. read more

Honestly, the food is a tad less than "A-OK" for 3 stars. The friendly service pushes it up to 3 stars, though. I literally just tried this place 30 minutes ago. I ordered an al pastor burrito and chips and guac. The al pastor was extremely salty - and I actually like my foods on the saltier side. This was just way too salty. I don't know if that's how they regularly flavor their meats or if it was just a bad batch, but it was just way too much. They also seem to skimp a bit on the fillings for the burrito (ex: one little scoop of pico de gallo). Their guacamole was as bland as I've ever had. It needs more lime/lemon and/or spice - something. Also, half the container in which the guacamole came was just one large chunk of avocado. I couldn't eat it with chips. The container is also very small - only slightly larger than those portable salsa containers you get at taco places. Strangely, they give you a ton of chips. I threw half of it away. Based on my first visit, this place is kind of like a not-as-good Chipotle with more meager helpings. I'll give this another shot in a few weeks to see if anything improves - but I doubt it, as this is a chain. read more

The service was good, the guys greeted me as soon as I walked in, but my husband and I were VERY disappointed about the size of the meals even after adding extra stuff. The meat, bell peppers and guac were all extra, but made me wonder what the bowl would have looked if I had not requested all the extras. Adding enough rice and beans does not cost much, but it would have added more volume/value to the bowl. No wonder on Taco Tuesday with the dollar off on tacos, the place was pretty empty. Also. the al pastor tacos were not even close to what an al pastor taco should be like. So for 3 shrimp tacos, two tacos, one burrito, one bowl and one quesadilla kid size $50 (after the $2 off).
