Stopped by here yesterday around 2pm, and ordered the threesome special (3 Tacos), and a side of guacamole with chips. The chicken was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The guacamole was delicious and a great portion size for a fair price. Everything was fresh, fresh, and fresh!! The customer service was superb on a busy Tuesday. By far the best Chronic Tacos franchise I've been to and I'll definitely be going back soon. Ok, here's the real scoop. Their large burrito is huge with fresh everything. I generally get chicken with Spanish rice, refried beans, cheese, onions, cilantro, pico de Gallo and their green sauce. Today is my last trip to Chronic Tacos at both the Alton & Culver Irvine locations.I usually purchased their small breakfast burrito-egg bacon,cheese and potato only at $5.00 which is now $5.95 ) and the breakfast bowl the same without the flour tortilla - guacamole is extra for my wife which is now $8.00. For repeated customers I am surprised by their continued 4 & 5 Star ratings. Besides their 8 AM morning hours-Monday-Saturday and their 9 AM hours on Sunday they miss the opportunity to capture the morning work people. A few week ago on a Sunday 9 AM drove to the Culver store only to find the store was CLOSED- NO STAFF SHOWED UP. Recently during the week at 8 AM went to Alton location and tried to place my usual order. I was told by the staff and to those standing in line to come back at 10 AM as they were to busy preparing a large order- who wants breakfast at 10 AM? Past few weeks observed very noted Skimpy portions with my order Today at the Alton location their own staff admitted to portion control of their products. To those potential new customers and repeat customers BUYER BEWARE. Go to Costco and pick up those ingredients and make it yourself. Service : I felt very unwelcomed from the moment I walked up to counter...The 2 who took my order didnt acknowledge with any eye contact through my whole visit while I ordered.. The woman who prepared the toppings( her name i dont know) blonde a bit older maybe was very abrupt and when I mentioned please dont place the guacamole on top of the taco which she didnt catch in time she looked really just fed up when she proceeded to make it again, still no eye contact.. I was trying to tell her it's okay no problem.. but she had the taco remade and then someone else redo the toppings part also...even though that was the only thing I mentioned (other than the other 2 toppings)even though it sounds like a very short encounter which yes it was quickly thrown together but hey I get it,, they are tacos at a fast food counter(only 2 other customers at the time) o just felt very uncomfortable & not appreciated as a customer.. note I was very friendly back to her even though...Food : I had 2 taco Taco plate , the beef tasted strange chicken was mushy and the beans 'not the refried ones weren't cooked shells of beans hard.. read more

These guys are the best. We've been having taco Wednesday's in the neighborhood lately with social distancing from our driveways. The food is amazing the guac is to die for and best of all Chronic Tacos is now serving the most delicious Beyond Meat tacos which falls right into our new vegan lifestyle. The Spanish rice- check. Only reason for 2 stars is because the food is good, service is absolutely terrible. The workers move like it hurts, trust me I work in fast food so I'm not being unreasonable. They sit there and gossip as they're making your food and give you complete attitude when you make the simplest request. It seems to be this location in particular, you can tell they have no care for service at all and anything you ask them is the biggest deal. Hopefully this gets fixed because the food is good, until then I'll definitely go to the other location in my area. read more

Okay. This is really perplexing. WHY are the reviews here so low?? This place has changed my outlook on burritos completely. First of all, the thing is YUUUUUGE. And absolutely, mouth-wateringly, tantalizingly, deliciously ADDICTIVE. I travel between coasts several times a year and when I get back to Boston, all I can dream about are the happy times I've spent at Chronic in Irvine. If the leftovers travelled better, I would totally be stuffing my luggage with nachos and burritos! Also, the service has always been fast and super-duper nice, and the fries are out of this world as well. Be VERY hungry when you come here though, or prepare to share because the portion sizes are gargantuan (not that it's a bad thing!). read more

These guys just fed our entire Elementary School and the school's Summer Party. The were so gracious and easy to deal with and they went out of their way to accommodate late orders and complicated requests. The food was SOOO good. Fresh salsa and salad and the smell was so delicious you couldn't walk passed without getting in line. I thoroughly recommend them. read more

Will not be returning. I usually come here on my lunch when scheduled in Irvine. Their Al Pastor tacos are usually really good. Yet, today I ordered a chronic bowl. Lettuce, alpastor, rice, pico de gallo, and guac. I brought it back to work to eat and as I opened the top I smelled a foul smell. At first I thought maybe its all the junk I put in it. Well, as I take my first bite I taste this weird sour taste. Turns out. The al pastor was bad. And sure enough, 2 hrs later the stomach pain starts. Never again!! read more

A lot of places have been copying subway style lately. I guess we all like to build our own food, that way, if food taste bad, it's only because you did it pick the right stuff to go in your food. Well, not exactly. If the food is not marinated well or cook to perfection, that will also effect the taste of the food. In my case, 1 out of 3 tacos didn't taste right. Whenever I go to Chronic Tacos I usually get the breakfast burrito. The breakfast burrito is the ultimate hungover food to get! Their regular sized burrito is sure to get you stuffed. The food is also customizable so you can tell the staff asks you what you want and don't want on your food. Although haven't tried their taco's, my boyfriend enjoy's their tacos especially during Taco Tuesday. He normally orders 4 tacos to get full. I was really debating between 3 and 4 stars but decided on the full four as I really am a huge fan of Chronic Tacos and do my best to stop by when I am in town. I haven't really ventured out to try to many other things on the menu other then the shrimp quesadilla and nachos but of those items, they are both quite solid and put a smile on my face every time. The prices are a little more then your standard hole in the wall taco shop but the quality shows. One day i will try the actual tacos as that was what put them on the map. This is definitely one of my favorite places to get lunch. From the beans and rice, to the tacos and burritos, I have found nothing that I do not enjoy. My favorite is the chicken burrito, you can have it anyway you like down an assembly line of cheese, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, sour cream, however you like it! What really makes this place great is that every time I walk in the door I'm always greeted, and the employees always seem so nice and helpful. Stopped by for lunch and wanted to try it since I've never been, coworker's mentioned it was pretty good...when I went in the afternoon, the workers just looked tired...the man behind the counter was very nice and gave me some info about was they could make and what was good...but the place just did not look too appealing....I tried the chronic nachos as the guy in front of me ordered it and I had it with chicken...as I was waiting my turn I saw a fly crawling on the scoop handle of the meat...I was trying to tell the guy what I saw but he frankly didn't seem to care...the girl at the register rang me up, and I showed her the Yelp check in and received the free chips and salsa... Yumm! Talk about a delicious and non-costly dining experience. You just can't go wrong with Chronic Tacos in Irvine. I usually go here after long walks, runs, or hikes with my friends or even stop by when I am just hungry. You can taste the healthiness going through your taste buds. I always get a "monster 13-inch build my own burrito" buritto and put anything I want in it. They have lots of choices and from the ones I can remember, they include, Spanish rice, white rice, refried beans, black beans, slow cooked pork, spicy pork, chicken, beef, steak, different types of salsas, cheese, avocados, tomatoes, onions, and a whole lot more. My beastly appetite always becomes satisfied as this place always hits the spot. Parking can seem a little tight at times, but you can park further away. You get so much for a couple of bucks ($8.00). It reminds me so much of my college stop ins at a "great little place" to eat when on the go. I was actually quite disappointed by my experience with Chronic Tacos. I've been looking for a good non-food truck taco place for a while, and randomly discovered this location after stopping to run some other errands in the strip mall. Since it was lunchtime, I figured I would give it a shot. Initially I was somewhat offput by the layout of the store - by asking guests to order in the back, you're essentially forced to walk through groups of customers paying for their food and juggling trays on their way to the soda machine to get to the ordering window. This made the restaurant itself feel fairly claustrophobic (though understandably so given the limited space strip mall slots offer and the fact that it was a bustling lunchtime crowd). I ordered two tacos (one carnitas, one asada), some chips, a side of hot salsa and a Mandarin Jarritos. Of the bunch, the only thing that met expectations was the Jarritos, a rather saddening outcome given Chronic had nothing to do with its production. The tacos were ordered "Baja Style" which consisted of the house sauce, what appeared to be mediocre pico de gallo, and some "fresh" cabbage. The cabbage was slightly wilty and lacked the satisfying crunch you would expect, the house sauce was apparently Thousand Island dressing, and the pico lacked any sort of spice whatsoever. Of the two meats, the Asada was very dry, somewhat stringy, and lacked any sort of flavor. The carnitas were passable, and would definitely be what I would order if forced to eat here again. They weren't anything special but they were moist, didn't have huge clumps or textural problems, and had a recognizable pork flavor. The chips and salsa proved the true disappointment, however. Good tortilla chips are heavenly - light, ultra-crispy, with tiny pockets of air that burst in your mouth as you carry some delicious salsa to your mouth. Sadly, these tortilla chips could only dream of that state: they were tumescent with the fat they'd been cooked in, to the point where I was able to bend one nearly in half. The overall impression was like eating deep-fried cardboard, and I quickly gave up after rummaging around in the bag in search of tastier fare. The "hot" salsa was equally frustrating - a thin, runny slurry that didn't have real heat at all and lacked recognizable chile flavor. On the positive side, I didn't get food poisoning, the service was prompt and helpful (especially to the customer in front of me who had a relatively complex order with some specialty tweaks), and they do have Jarritos for when you get a craving for the fake orange flavor. read more
