    Fish Taco a la Carte

We stopped into Chronic Tacos today for some fast casual Mexican food in the heart of Irvine. The service was friendly and efficient, in the midst of the bustling lunch rush. If you like a casual quick ambiance, there is outdoor seating only at this location. I ordered a fish taco and Chronic fries, with an horchata on the side. I got the green salsa which had a nice kick. This is a good place to stop by if you want something fresh and spicy. Enjoy!

This place is more of a quick service taco place. Similar to chipotle the food is sitting out and you choose your options. Lead was a little dry. For the kids meal and two taco. No inside seating so you are sitting outside next to the street and parking.

We live in Long Beach and go to the Lakewood chronic Taco almost every Friday. We ended up coming to this location and it blew away the Lakewood location. The guac was homemade (some of the best guac I have ever eaten), they weren't cheap on the beans and rice, and they were very nice. They greeted us as soon as we walked in. Gerardo is the one who helped us.

Got a carne asada burrito and side of chips to go, but I saw they had patio tables outdoors for people who want dine in, offering the perfect ambiance on a sunny day. In terms of food, the carne asada burrito was wrapped with flour tortilla and stuffed with white rice, refried beans, carne asada and some lettuce and tomatoes. The flour tortilla was really good, and tasted like it was freshly made (as opposed to the pre made ones with tons of preservatives). I was a bit disappointed with the stuffing inside, as the stuff inside was pretty flavorless (e.g. white rice was very plain, lettuce a bit soggy). The chips were decent, although the salsa Verde was a bit too spicy for my taste. Overall, still a decent option in Irvine during your lunch break, but nothing to write home about.

The worst customer service. This lady deserves to have a conversation with the manager owner.

The rest of the staff exception except for this one woman at the cash register. She was extremely rude, over Tramy, even though I pointed out, and refused to provide me with the jalapeños that I asked for. It's a small thing especially when you're paying over 10 bucks for a burrito.. I will say the rest of the staff was great and I could tell that they were looking at her for being so rude.

I use to come to chronic religiously in high school for lunch, especially on Tuesday. I decided to come back and give it a try today. The portions are huge. They definitely don't skimp on the toppings but they do on the protein... the carne asada was dry and tough, however the free guac made up for it. 3.5/5

Are your beans and rice vegetarian? Or are they cooked in lard or chicken stock?

Good morning. All our beans are vegan. No animal products are added. Our white lime rice is also vegan. However, our Spanish rice is made with chicken stock and/or chicken bouillon. Thank you!

Can I just order fries by themself without any toppings?

Of course you can! Come give them a try.

Do they have Taco Tuesday deal here?

Yes, they have pollo, carnitas, al pastor, or carne asada tacos for $2 each on Tuesdays.

What we love about this place is they have happy hour everyday from open to I believe 7, you can't beat that! The food and drinks: we got a tamarindo margarita and we liked it a lot. Good flavor although it could have used a bit more alcohol. For tapas we got: croquetas de queso y jamon (we loved them, they were probably our favorite), calamari (it was so good!), empanadas (my boyfriend said they were good), short rib tacos (they were okay but not the greatest), patatas bravas (only thing I wasn't a fan of). Overall, really great food, service and ambiance. We will definitely be back!

We had divided paella with half seafood paella in squid ink and half meat paella. The portion was generous, and the flavor was excellent. The beef empanadas were fluffy and tasty. The olive bread with garlic aoli was exceptional. The tortilla espanola with short rib was just OK. The service was friendly. However, the loud music and dancing inside the restaurant negatively impacted the overall dining experience. The noise level was too much even in the outdoor seating area. I do recommend the restaurant for the food though.

We sat at the bar while waiting for our table, and were greeted by a friendly, knowledgeable bar tender, who recommended items from the tapas menu. We requested, and were seated at, a quiet table in the back patio. The wait staff and service was friendly, professional, and outstanding. We ordered tapas, and loved every bite, from the Papas Brava and Bikini Sandwich to the Panza de Cerdo. These three tapas were more than enough for the two of us. They were filling, delicious, and did not disappoint. We topped it all off with tastes of Vaca's homemade flan and almond paste cake. DELICIOUS! But Vaca is also an expensive high-end steak and Iberian ham restaurant, with every cut of expertly aged beef and Spanish Iberian cured ham imaginable. All in all, Vaca is a great moderately priced tapas and paella restaurant, and also it is an expensive premium steak/ham restaurant. We think you'll enjoy the ambiance, service and most of all, the food. We give it our high recommendation.

What a fabulous place to celebrate a birthday!…read more We were in the area to see a show at the Segerstrom theatre and Vaca is literally a 4 minute walk away. Which worked out for us since we were able to use the restaurants valet service and leave our car there until after the show. As soon as we walked in, I was in awe of how cool the place looked! The bar located near the front door was very inviting and definitely made me want to go back just to sit there for a couple of cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, their signature, The Vaca Tonic was my favorite cocktail that I tried. It's refreshing, pretty and definitely had me ordering a second one. They have a variety of spirits to choose from, but the Gin cocktails were definitely my favorite. For dinner, my husband and I choose the Tapas route and order a few plates to share. The Carpaccio, Gambas Al Ajillo(sautéed shrimp) and the La Bola(upscale version of potato balls) were my favorite dishes. This isn't to say that our other plates weren't delicious, I'm just saying these plates left me wanting more. Last but not least, we ended the night with a slice of their Basque Cheesecake, and oh my goodness, this had to be hands down, one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had. I was so full, but there was no way we were leaving any piece of the cheesecake uneaten. Now, this restaurant is more on the pricey side. But, I would 100% recommend to try once or make it a priority to check out when you have a special occasion to celebrate!

Service: Everyone who passed was quick to greet us and check in with us, all of them friendly and welcoming. This continued throughout the meal, and it was awesome to chat with so many people. We even got a few moments with Chef Zach, which was a bonus! Ambiance: The atmosphere is dark (as expected) and lively, with the staff taking turns working the turntables to keep the music going. (I loved this little detail.) Food: Easily a 10/10 food experience, though due to the dark lighting, my pictures don't do the dishes justice! Head to their instagram to see better pics of the food. We had the tuna crudo, hamachi crudo, scotch olives, and wagyu tartare. All of these items were incredible, and those scotch olives were a definite standout. Our bartender Scotty was friendly and attentive, and the rest of the staff was awesome too. We can't wait to return for Chrysalis, and we're looking forward to visiting the new restaurant concept as soon as that's up and running! 10/10 experience all around. Well done!!

We went to Darkroom for my fiancés birthday and were slightly disappointed…read more The good: the steak was really tasty and had different flavor components like the crispy chilli and shishito peppers that complimented the meat very well. It was well balanced and the best dish of the night. The scrambled egg agnolotti was delicious as well and was paired with a savory slightly sour sauce what helped with the heaviness. The bad: We were recommended the house made focaccia to dip into the steak sauce but it was served 15 minutes before the steak came out so was cold by the time we needed it. The biggest disappointment of the night was the $29 tuna crudo. We should have taken the description by face value: tuna, tomato water, vanilla nori oil (we thought this might be the flavor but we were wrong. It was just oil), passion fruit. It quite literally tasted like oily tuna in plain water with passion fruit seeds floating around. The passion fruit overwhelmed the flavor profile. There was so little tuna for the steep price (like 3 sashimi pieces chopped up). It wasn't even a high quality cut. Even if it wasn't, the flavor of the tuna was somehow completed sapped - leaving just the texture. The overall pricing for the menu was very steep with small portion sizes but at least the other plates we had actually tasted good. We also appreciated the complimentary dessert that was given for my fiancés bday. The service was great as well. Looking at previous reviews, it seems that the experimental dishes are either a hit or miss
