I have been working from home mostly, but I try and schedule going into the office on Tuesday when they are at the Hogan St. by former Landings food truck spot. I always get the #4 which gives you 3 taco with choice of meats, rice and mashed beans. After trying one of them as shrimp, it hard not getting all 3 as shrimp every time. All the meats have great flavor so I always have to mix them up. If you can take some heat mix their orange colored Salas in the rice and beans, it really takes it up a notch! read more

Despite reviews I tend to give everyone a chance so I gave Chubby burrito a go! I ordered shrimp and tilapia tacos.. the tacos shells on the picture of their tacos is what prompted me to make that choice but they were not as fluffy and fulfilled when I received them. The seafood had no flavor and was plain. Pretty much my entire plate was flavorless. The only thing that tasted good was the watered down queso.. definitely over priced for the quality and quantity. Suggestion: Pastor Burrito Price: $9 Pros: Really good amount of food for the price the you pay, plenty of options, I love the actual chunks of pineapple in the burrito Cons: I wish there was more meat in the burrito, I don't need a ton more, just enough that I'm getting a few chunks in each bite. Thoughts: I've eaten at the chubby burrito a few times now and its definitely my preferred Mexican food truck. All their items are very good, highly flavorful, and authentically Mexican. The ordering system is also set up really well; you pick the items you want, from a large selection of tacos, burritos, and sandwiches, and then pick the kind of meat you want in it. I love how this allows me to get exactly what I want without having the do the whole, "can I get your such-and-such burrito, but can you do chicken instead of pork?" I know that may not seem like a big deal but it makes it a lot more convenient. After trying several items I've decided that my favorite has to be their burrito with pastor meat in it. Something about the savory pork combined with the sweetness from the chunks for grilled pineapple just make it an amazingly delicious burrito. It's also really big; easily enough for a filling meal or, in the case of food truck rallies, enough that two or more people can split it and still get a decent amount of food before moving onto the next truck :) That all being said, this isn't a food truck thats trying to re-invent anything. They are sticking with good, quality, simple Mexican fair. While it is really good food, there's isn't anything unique enough about them that it would pull me to their location if they were more than a 10 minute drive. Jacksonville has A LOT of good Mexican places and I feel that Chubby Burrito doesn't do anything that sets them apart from the leaders of the pack. Their food is freshly sourced, tastes phenomenal, and is as authentic as they come. They spent their entire day, preparing for our wedding. The smell and taste took me back to being at my abuelita's table in Mexico. Our wedding guests RAVED about their dinners. We're incredibly grateful to the Chubby Burrito. The rice is soupy. The peas in the rice are wrinkled and colorless. The beans are the blackest I have ever seen and are both hard and soft. The al pastor tastes like curry. The corn taco shells (soft) are chewy and oily. read more

Saw they were near me so I popped over for lunch. I ended up ordering from their neighbor Pita Boss but my son decided on a burrito. He went for the Asada. This truck is as plain jane as they get around here. Until you look on the inside with all of the beautiful and shiny new chromed panels. I mean the big diamond design panels are like a bunch of mirrors they are so shiny. This truck is brand new to the Jax Food Truck scene. This is only their 3rd day out and they are at the food court again. Their menu is not very big but if you do a simple menu and do it right you will go far here. They have your normal burritos, (the name) tacos, quesadillas, and some huaraches. They also have all of the Mexican soda flavors too. So you just pick what you want from the tortilla list taco folded burrito rolled and quesadilla and huaraches are flat then you put one of the 4 different meats on them and they make it and serve it up with beans and rice n peas. Today I went with the spicy tinga to them but shredded chicken to me that was grilled with some onions and cilantro. Then piled up with cheese and heated till it is all ooey gooey. I will say that the beans were really good along with the rice. The quesadilla wasn't spicy at all but they have a red hot sauce that will light your a$$ up. The salsa verde is also on the very tasty side and you can tell it is fresh and truck made too. In all this truck is really tasty and will be ion my sites for a bit. read more

Just ate at Chubby Burrito for the first time and I have to say it will also be my last time. I had a carne azada Burrito. I figured since it was my first time I should go with something basic, just to be safe. For $10, I got a weakly stuffed Burrito filled with some rice, some chopped lettuce, re fried beans, and the steak, all of which had very little flavor. No onions. No tomatoes. No peppers. No cheese. Just rice, beans, lettuce, and beef. The quality of beef was just awful, with lots of gristle and fat. Compared to other Mexican places in the area, this one charged the most and gave the least. If you see this truck, just don't bother, unless you're in the market for overpriced, unflavored Mexican food with little substance. read more

Out of the 15+ food trucks at an event, I decided to try Chubby Burrito. I walked into a long line when the customer in front of me said that was the line for pick up. Me like, many people waited in that line simply thinking that was the main line (I feel bad for the people who had to wait up to 30 minutes to order just to be shooed away.) After ordering, I went back into the original line where I waited 45 more minutes. And when they ran out of food, they did not make any announcement or put up any sign. Maybe 20 other people lined up behind me thinking they would get to order. After getting my order, I overheard a lady behind me asked the server something after I left. The server replied with a snappy "what do you want". Now for the food, it was okay. I'd give it another star if it wasn't so expensive. 10 dollars for a single burrito??? I wish I had reviewed yelp first. The tacos are corn tortillas which they don't tell you. Chicken was super dry, like cooked the night before. I had enough cilantro to start an herb garden. I ordered the tacos and they were delicious!! Beef, chicken and Al pastor. I don't know where those bad reviews came from because these were some of the best tacos that I've had in Jacksonville. I eat at Mexican Restaurants at least twice a week. (Taco Tuesdays!) The salsa verde is delicious and the red salsa is super spicy and flavorful.
