This is a review for the food truck, Chubby Burrito, outside of the VyStar building downtown, Jacksonville There are 4 trucks there today and lots of benches on which you can eat lunch. We opted for Mexican food. Now closer to home, the DC area has some excellent, authentic food trucks that make you feel like you are on the streets of Mexico. CB was not on par! The menu options were good. However our taco salads were okay, but balanced. My carne asada had flavor but was too salty. I got very little lettuce and no pico/tomato. There was a lot of smashed black beans (no pinto refrito) and rice, but not much salad. Also interesting, they use mozzarella cheese (Italian). Portions were good but the dish was very heavy. Salsa is self serve, I wouldn't trust it in sweltering heat because it isn't kept chilled. read more

I purchased 2 burritos with one beans cheese and rice. They cost me $30 + tip. It wasnt until I got to work in realized how small they were. Black Beans had no seasoning. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Way over priced for what you little you get. read more

Day 4 of being back in the office and Day 2 of food trucks to help ease the transition. Thanks again to @veritivcorporation for the great "welcome back" week! Today's food truck is @chubbyburritojax and they were outstanding. I got the Chubby Tacos; three tacos with your choice of meat and topped with onions and cilantro served with a side of rice and beans. I chose Asada, grilled shrimp, and Al Pastor for my meat choices. All delicious, but my favorite was the Al Pastor with its marinated pork and pineapple. Spicy and sweet! I'm going to miss these food truck days come next week, but what a great way to make coming back to the office fun and enjoyable! read more

Distinctly average. The tacos are fine, but way too expensive -- they offer a three taco with rice/beans lunch for $15, but what they don't tell you is that (1) there are undisclosed upcharges for certain meats and (2) the rice and beans are tiny portions. So you could end up with a $20 lunch and still be a little hungry, because the tacos aren't all that big either. The meats are well cooked, especially the shrimp. But they tend to douse everything in heavy creamy sauces, and the tortillas are clearly store bought. They have a couple nice salsas to take to go, but the little cups and lids they put out to use don't fit together (one of those little things that just annoy me). It's fine, but you can almost certainly do better at another truck. read more

I wanted some authentic Mexican food so decided to try this truck. The offering looked appetizing and we order a burrito,a taco , the seafood platter and a quesadilla for my son. The best part of everything was the shrimp, It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The asada and the carnitas were dry, and there was this sauce over the seafood tacos that really didn't sit right with me. I was expecting cabbage and many some veggies on top to showcase the flavor of the shrimp and the fish. Which both by themselves had great flavor. The guac and rice were both bland and the chips tasted a little stale. The quesadilla was also very tasty and my son loved how the cheese was melty and stringly as he pulled it apart. They came to the Palm Bay Club for the first time tonight. They were very friendly and had a lot of choices on the menu. I ordered the three taco plate with rice and beans. The food was great !! The Chubby Burrito came through my neighborhood recently. This was my first time hearing of this truck so I gave them a try. I ordered the Taco Salad with beef. Wow, the taco salad was piled high with toppings such as cheese and lettuce. I only wish I had seen that it included rice as I am not a fan of adding a filler, such as rice, to any of my dishes. But I worked through it and ate most everything except the rice lol. There were also black beans on the bottom which I loved. The beef was seasoned nicely and all of the toppings were fresh. The flour tortilla bowl was light, flaky and delicious! I would recommend this dish to anyone who loves a good taco salad! The service was friendly and the food was prepared pretty quickly. Although I felt initially $10 was a little steep for a taco salad, the quality of the food made it worth the money! read more

I ordered the shrimp. Grilled and full of flavor. But very chewy.... I had lettuce and cheese on top. A side of Guacamole made the meal. When I got home I didn't have any sour cream...... Yikes, this food truck is BAD. First, the person taking orders is stone cold and makes you feel like you're bothering them just being there. When I walked to the truck and was acknowledged after 2-3 mins (nobody was in line ahead of me or behind me), I smiled said hello and how are you? I was completely ignored, not a smile, nothing. Like a "what the F do you want kind of look". That should have been my sign but I ignored it and gave my order. She swiped my card, didn't say thank you, didn't say how long it would be, just walked away. About 10 mins later my food was ready and here's a breakdown: Seafood Sample: bland, wet fish. Nothing good, nor absolutely terrible but below average. Also, this was supposed to come with rice and beans. The beans were so cold that they sprinkled cheese on top and the cheese couldn't even melt. There was also no rice included but fries instead. Again, I was not told these items were out of stock or asked to make any substitutions. The fries give were fresh and good once I ran a napkin over each fry to get the excessive amount of salt off. You can see in the pic, they couldn't even bother to put a lid on the sauce. Asada Nacho Fries: did not come with pico, sour cream or mozzarella as listed on the menu. Maybe they ran out of those ingredients but I was never informed of this. What I got were the SALTIEST fries and cheese sauce that I've ever had. I tend to be a little heavy on liking salt but this was insane; literally couldn't eat it. That and the missing toppings made this a 0/5 stars. Salsa at register: they had a squirt bottle of salsa that you could put into little ramekins and take with you. I hesitated because today it was 103 degrees out and this was just sitting out on the counter. No ice, nothing. Just sitting. For hours. Mediocre, lazy, bland food. And the funny part is, that describes the persons attitude who took and gave me my order. I will never go back to this establishment. Nothing was good, memorable or pleasant. read more

Food truck that I visited in downtown Jacksonville at the end of May 2024. Food came out really quick it was fresh nice and greasy big fat burrito. They give a little bit of guacamole and chips with the burrito. They have two soft choices on the side of the truck One is like a smokey spicy red sauce and the other is a green tomatillo sauce. The tomatillo sauce is a little sweeter and a little more flavorful. I had the chubby burrito and like I said it was really good. With a diet Coke I think the total was around $15. read more

Yesterday my son wanted food truck down the street instead of what was for dinner. He ordered a number 6 seafood sample. When he got home it was three ground beef tacos. So he goes back, orders again and gets three fish tacos. The number six is two tacos, one shrimp and one fish. The beans were not retried beans, but smashed black or purple beans. Food is so close to perfect! I really enjoyed my taco salad. I asked them to add onions and cilantro. Both their green and red sauce are delicious. I chose steak. It was tender and flavorful. The reasons it wasn't a 5 star - not enough lettuce, not even close. If it had more lettuce I think it would have cut the saltiness. Not sure what was over salted, meat rice or beans. I love fish tacos, and am always interested in trying them from different places, as they're always different. Chubby's was awesome. The fish was succulent and grilled perfectly. And at first I was hesitant to order them, as it plate comes with one tilapia fish taco and one shrimp taco, and I'm usually not terribly impressed with shrimp tacos. This time was a happy exception. Again the fish taco was great. But, I'd have to say I enjoyed the shrimp taco more. It was spicer than the talapia, but not killed with blackening spices, where all you can taste is the spice. Lastly, it came with french fries and black beans. I'd have preferred rice with the beans, but these fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. And I don't know exactly what they do with their black beans but they're out of this world. They have a smokey hint to them -- like they were cooked in a pan, over a campfire. I got the Chubby tacos and tried 3 different meats, ground beef, spicy tinga chicken and al pastor. They are all REALLY good w/ unique flavor, seasoned well. Last time I was here I had to go back to my car to get my sweater. It was raining and chilly. I thought if the manager knows of weather conditions they should also turn their AC down for that day. I'm not comfortable when eating with a coat or sweater. Not everyone had to please little ole me but... my 2nd time wings were cold I asked if they can heat them up and they did, I almost lost a tooth they were too crispy. I don't know what's up with all of these mixed reviews, but this truck was in my neighborhood earlier this week and I thought they had some bomb azz food! Also, I had never heard of it and was just glad that we weren't having to cook that night , so it was nice to have no expectations and then be impressed. I got the 3 taco meal on corn tortillas with rice and beans. Carnitas, tilapia, and Al Pastor. My husband got Al Pastor tacos. My husband loves Al Pastor, and normally I am not a fan, but it was so flavorful! The carnitas were not bad, a little on the dry side though. Tilapia was good. Fresh tasting ingredients. Lime on the side. (I always use that lime, so +1 for them including it.) Rice and beans were seasoned well! It's disappointing when places skimp on seasoning the sides so I'm glad they didn't do that. Last thing: We also got Chubby French fries. This tasted like more than just fries with toppings--I guess maybe the ground beef was just seasoned well, too? Something about it pulled it all together, maybe a sauce. I don't really know how to explain it. It could be that I was just hungry, lol. Overall, based on this single experience, I would say that it tasted better than Si Señor and La Nop, which are our normal go-to Mexican restaurants on our side of town. On point!!! So good! Burrito is HUGE!! The music created a nice afternoon vibe. I was just dancing a little dance waiting in line to give my order. I ordered the seafood sample. It consisted of a shrimp taco and tilapia taco both topped with chipotle sauce and pico de gallo paired with rice and creamy refried beans. My coworker ordered the chubby burrito that comes with chips and guacamole. We were both pleasantly surprised on the quality and quantity of the food. I found the seafood grill cooked to prefection. The only Mexican digs in town that came close to a real "Cali Burrito"! Cali Burrito from the west coast consists pollo asado, shredded cheese, pico de Gallo, French fries and i personally add guacamole. Every place in town cannot get that right taste like San Diego Taco Shops do but Chubby Burrito gets quite close! Their Chubby Fries with Carne Asada is also a spin to San Diego's famous Carne Asada Fries. Service is fast and attentive! They even play music jams while you wait and it was a party! read more

The CB food truck came to our monthly Food Truck Friday. I ordered the Quesadilla with Chicken It was HORRIBLE and tasteless and the quesadilla wasn't even grilled toasty. It was only shredded chicken and melted cheese with NO flavor. No salsa; no Mexican spices. $10.00 WASTED It went in the garbage as I only had a 30-minute lunch and would've wanted a refund from the rude man who shoved it at me and just grabbed my $10. Also noticed after I walked around the other food trucks, that NO ONE was visiting the Chubby Burrito. Now, I know why!!! The most wasted $10 I've ever spent!!! The Employee Cafe knows how to make a wonderful quesadilla for less than $4 from now on that's where I will have one! Today's lunch, the Chubby Burrito was fantastic. A coworker asked "why do they call it chubby?" I'll tell you why, because it's the biggest and tastiest burrito in town.
