The best AYCE wagyu place in Irvine (in Jamboree Diamond plaza) Quality meats, good service, nice ambiance. Come around 5pm to avoid long line.

First time here and we have to give it to 3 stars . I do want to shout out to Elisa who helped lifted our experience from the get-go. Elisa cooked for us, and she did an amazing job indeed. However, the line management was totally flawed. We waited in line, a staff added each party from front to end of line to the waitlist. She agreed we wouldn't need to stay in line and will get texted when it's our turn. Wrong, so wrong. Those who stayed in line got to check in with the front receptionist first. We were misled, unprofessional. I had to check in with receptionist myself for a table. Past forward, 2nd mismanagement was when we were told to wait outside for someone to call us as too many ppl waiting indoors already. Well, they never called even after 10 mins. I literally saw ppl who checked in after us got seated first. I came in and observed the backend staff would seat whoever she MEET first in the lobby instead of perhaps going by the order of "checked in" parties? I am overly disappointed. The food is delicious at first and quickly got fatty with bad taste in you mouth if you don't balance things right. You only get 70 mins to order, but the menu is hard to grasp with its unfriendly design. The restaurant is so much tighter than expected. Most Tables are close to one another. The sauce bar? Just prepare to hit traffic there and try not to hit anyone.

Came here for dinner around 4:30pm to avoid the long wait so we only had to wait about 15 minutes. We chose the Platinum Tier for $98 per person. Overall a fun experience with some unique meats/dishes (stone axe full blood wagyu tongue, wagyu uni caviar nigiri, Hokkaido uni mentaiko). I personally didn't think platinum was worth it since the stone axe full blood wagyu tongue was not my style (chewy, too soft, and really had a tongue-like texture). The Hokkaido uni mentaiko had a cool presentation, but not my fave. Their unlimited meat options were pretty good, but nothing astounding and memorable. I think I only really liked 2 or 3 of their meat options. My fave meat of the night was the A5 short rib thick cut. I also enjoyed the Argentina shrimp (only cuz it was slightly sweet/tasty and my husband peeled it for me)! The salmon carpaccio and salmon nigiri was average (didn't have a strong salmon taste and didn't seem super fresh) The self service station is fun - a good variety of veggies like mushrooms, edamame, radish and desserts/fruit. The sauce bar was pretty average. Service was interesting. At first they helped to cook the specialty meats, but then they stopped midway, so some of the meats got burnt. They are also really strict on the 90 minute limit for a table. The clock pretty much starts right when you get seated (even before they start explaining the menu and before you get your first order on the table)

Lots of variety, clean, nice service, quality self-serve area for sides, dessert, drinks, etc. My only complaint is with the membership communication. I bought it online wanting to go to Mikiya often, but pretty soon after I bought the membership, Mikiya pulled OUT of it all together! I missed the chance to get 3,000 points for my birthday meal because of the lack of communication that Mikiya was even pulling out. It was a mess. I told my server. She tried to get the manager to do something about it, but the manager did not do anything about it, unfortunately. Regardless, our server was very nice. I do love the choices and variety. It's just that it's pricey to go there even with the membership discount because I can only eat so much in one sitting for it to be worth it, besides on special occasions, maybe, of which I sadly missed out on.

We visited this restaurant for lunch with friends and opted for the golden package, as we preferred a lighter meal. Although the restaurant was very busy, we only had to wait forty-five minutes for our table of six, which felt quite reasonable compared to the two-hour waits I have experienced at other Chubby Cattle locations. The restaurant is very clean and the staff were friendly. I felt the condiment bar was not as extensive as at other locations I have visited, but the meat selection is decent and the food arrived promptly after we placed our orders through the system. I would certainly recommend trying this place, and I wish you luck with the wait time. I believe this is the only location that does not utilize member NFT reservations.

My husband and I decided to try this location for my birthday dinner. It was a Sunday night. We joined the waitlist at 530pm and got seated at 6pm. We decided to go with the gold menu and we were happy with that. My husband loves beef tongue so when we're eating somewhere with good beef tongue, that's all he'll really order. The other variety was perfect for me. I really enjoyed the Tom Yum soup. I always order some seafood on the side(squid, shrimp, scallops) and add to the soup so it's kind of like a mini hot pot for me. The self serve area is a little cramped. So you're bumping shoulders to get things when it's crowded, which it's usually always crowded. The service was amazing. Our server was Andy. He was attentive the entire time. He cooked meats when he saw our grill empty and let us know if he was going to disappear for a few minutes while tending other tables. He was always moving. Also very informative. Most of the meats are coated in a lemon aioli of some sort. I love citrus so it didn't bother me but my husband wasn't a fan of it. I ate a lot of the A4 brisket. The wagyu steak was tough and too chewy, I don't recommend that cut. Everything else was great. I one thing that keeps me from coming to the chubby chains more often is the very strict time limit. It's 90 minutes total, last call at 70 minutes. I don't get out with my husband alone very often. So when we can enjoy a meal without our kids, I like to actually enjoy it. No matter how great service was, I always feel rushed. I hate it. I get that there's a wait and they want to turn over tables quickly to make more money but for the price they charge, I'd want a 120 minute limit. I was already put off when 120 minute limits were put in place but more are leaning towards 90 minutes and that's just pushing it in my opinion. But besides the time restraint, the food and service was amazing. Definitely worth a try.

Andy was absolutely phenomenal! From the moment we sat down, he was incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming. He consistently checked on us, made sure we had everything we needed, and provided genuinely outstanding service throughout the entire meal. His positive attitude and attention to detail really stood out, and you can tell he genuinely cares about giving his guests a great experience. The food was also excellent. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and high quality, and we were really impressed with the overall meal. The atmosphere made the experience even more fun too. The anime and sumo-inspired vibe gives the restaurant a really unique personality and makes it feel energetic and memorable without being over the top. Between the amazing food, awesome ambiance, and Andy's 10/10 service, this was a fantastic experience all around. We would absolutely come back and would definitely hope to have Andy as our server again.

Food was excellent. Variety of meats to choose from including seafood. Jason was very helpful. Got me a chubby club plus member for 40 bucks. Good food, good atmosphere for friends and family to enjoy.

Service is impeccable. Our server cooked all of our meats for us and everything was so so SO tender. I feel like theres not much to say, the food kinda speaks for itself.

Update (9/12/26): Someone on their team messaged me and asked for details of my visit, particularly the "timing of your dining experience" with the date, time, reservation name, table number, and receipt. Makes you wonder-- how does checking the timing actually play a role in how my dining experience went? Are they actually going to do something to remedy this or cross reference whether or not I dined here and if things are really how they transpired? In the instances which I have had a negative dining experience, someone reached out to apologize without asking for so much information. I also received a DM from another user about how many Chubby Cattle's reviews are very suspiciously formulated, and the lower reviews get pushed down. See it for yourself. Regardless, this whole experience has created a sour mark for me. ------ First time at this location and I'm not keen on returning any time soon, especially after comparing this to my experience at Wagyu Factory, their other Chubby Group establishment. The atmosphere and interior decoration are nice, but a facade that fails to mask the many issues in the restaurant. The restaurant was extremely loud and I could barely hear my server since he didn't project his voice- I had to keep asking him to repeat what he said. I didn't like being asked twice about upgrading to become a member. It seemed like a timeshare presentation as the benefits kept being emphasized. When I dined at Wagyu Factory two days prior, the server asked my group if we were celebrating anything (which was a yes), but when I dined at Chubby Cattle, the server did not ask us about celebrations when we did have a birthday to celebrate. I noticed tables around us were sung to for their birthdays, so I guess if you want that service, then you have to speak up somewhere in between your timeshare presentation. I also think it's odd that the time limit starts before the server speaks to you, so if this is your first time here and you have questions (like my group), then you're losing time. Our grill was on high but the meat cooked very slowly. It took 15-20 minutes for the grill to heat up the first set of meat we placed down, so we were sitting there waiting since it's such a small grill. It was around 35 minutes into our meal when the meat actually started cooking at a respectable time. Our server also commented "your meat is overcooked" at one point, which was off-putting because it wasn't charred or burned, and even so, everyone has different meat temp preferences. There was no ice in the soda machine, and the ice cream machine wasn't working correctly because the ice cream came out very liquid and with ice crystals, like a melted slush. The slushy machine was the same- thin and liquid. The self-serve aisle is very narrow. If this was Japan then sure, 2-3 people could walk side by side with enough space. I noticed a lot of people had to walk sideways because they couldn't maneuver between people standing at the sauce or veggie station. Takoyaki barely had octopus in it. Lobster dumplings were forgettable. The restroom is also oddly placed after the employee station where they place the dish bins and other plates. I'm not sure how sanitary that could be with people walking to and from the bathroom consistently. I was surprised that our server gave us our bill while we were still eating. We had over 30 minutes left of the meal (sat down at 5:02PM and the bill was printed at 5:53PM) and plenty of meat on the table to get through. He came back shortly and asked if I wanted to pay by card or Apple Pay. It gave us a poor impression and we felt that they were hinting us to wrap it up. Overall, the customer service and experience was *extremely lacking*- weird that there's so many reviews shouting out their server and how great their experience was. The only positive that I can list is that our empty trays were quickly cleared by staff walking past our table, and that there's different tea options.

I'll review this from start to finish. Showed up at the plaza at 12 thinking since it was raining, the restaurant would be less busy than usual. Nope, the plaza parking was packed and took me 20 minutes to find parking. Once I was able to put my name down, the wait ballooned to about 40 minutes. Hostess was nice and the waiting area had a couple amenities which I appreciated (fighting game arcade and some tea). Once we were called we waited inside for about 5-10 more minutes as our table was getting ready. It was cool seeing all the dry aged stuff in the front. We were a party of 2 and ordered off the gold menu. You get 1 round of special meat order and 1 special dish. We had the a5 short rib and the wagyu uni caviar nigiri. That nigiri was amazing. Shout out to our server Jason who recommended it. Jason also cooked the a5 meats so we don't mess up an expensive cut like that. It was cooked perfectly to our request of medium rare. We ordered all the tablet recommendations for beef and then some other ones. I'd say the wagyu steak was my least favorite. That just reminded me of a cheap chuck steak. Everything else was amazing though and lived up to the hype everyone else is saying. Wagyu nigiri was my favorite, but the yellowtail carpaccio came in a close 2nd. The beef tongue platter was probably the best beef tongue I've had at an ayce bbq place. Honorable mentions to the brisket, a3 cube and top blade steak. I had some of their gyudon and burger in the self serve area. Both were fantastic. The drinks were also really good. I tried all their teas and the passionfruit one was my favorite. Pretty cool there's no extra charge for these. The only reason why this isn't a 5 star was we didn't always get what we ordered on the tablet. The eating time limit is quite strict. So the multiple times (about 4 times) we didn't get our order, that's just wasting your eating time sitting idle. Shout out to our server Jason again that when we brought it up, he put in an override order and we got our food within minutes. I would never go to an a la carte japanese bbq place again. The value and service here is insane.

We've been to the Rowland one, but not this one. The ambiance of the whole thing inside is great! Service was fast and attentive as usual. We had Jason and he was informative on what meats to get. How to cook them and the membership program. It's a bit smaller than the Rowland location, but has the same great meat quality and service. Would come back!

VIP A4 Wagyu, with caviar. Very very very underwhelming (very).

Went with a group of about 20 on a Saturday afternoon around 3 PM. The service was very good and the staff did a great job accommodating such a large group (shout out to Kurt speaking viet), the food itself though was pretty underwhelming. The limited quantity premium meats that you're only allowed to order once for the table were chewey but good. After that plate though, most of the other meats felt pretty subpar. The aesthetic of the restaurant is very cool and definitely one of its stronger points. The artwork covering the walls adds a lot to the atmosphere, although once you actually look at it, reeks of AI generated art and becomes hard not to notice once you start thinking about it. My biggest issue with the layout was the self serve area where you get drinks, sides, sauces, desserts, etc. It is WAY too cramped, shuffling and bumping and grinding, all it was missing was some R Kelly at that point. We were there around 3 PM on a Saturday when the restaurant wasn't even particularly busy, and it was already difficult to move around. I can't imagine what that area is like during peak dinner hours. One thing I would definitely recommend is keeping a close eye on your time while you're there. The dining experience is timed, and it goes by surprisingly fast, especially with a large group. I would recommend continuously ordering or at least always having something in the order queue, even if it's just a small order. Between waiting for food and everyone getting up for drinks, sides, sauces, and other items from the cramped self serve area, you can use up more of your dining time than you realize. Just something to be mindful of so you can actually make the most of the experience. Overall, the service and atmosphere was solid, but the meat quality after the limited premium selections and the cramped self serve setup brought the experience down quite a bit for me. For a restaurant built around premium all you can eat Wagyu, I expected the meat itself to be the highlight. As of right now, not on the recommend list, best way to describe it would be "aight".

Does this location sell gift cards?

Literally just gave them a ring and nope they don't offer gift cards.

What is the wait time right now?

    949-418-5079

What's the wait time around 5:30 ok a Sunday?

    2-3 hrs

Is this place OK for one person to eat? Will you still get quality service and quality food if you go between no more lunch and dinner hour?

Yes definitely, they have seating on the bar thats perfect if you are just by yourself.

What's the wait time right now?

Depending on the time and day you go. They said the wait can be up to 2 hours

How can I join the wait list?

How to join the wait list

How do I get a table at opening hour? Is there a waiting list?

    1. Show up early and wait in line. There's a chance you'll get one of the first seating but depends how many people ahead of you and how large your party. Go earlier on peak days/hours.…

I don't understand the whole ordering process and couldn't find any explanations. Do you pick some items from the lists? Or are you served all of them? Could someone explain it to me, please? Also, do you have to cook everything yourself? Thank you.

you order through tablet and specialty meats depend on your tier. Speciality meats are cooked by servers but the ones that are AYCE is self cook.

Is this place Japanese or Korean BBQ?

    Japanese, its considered yakiniku.

Is there a different pricing for kids?

It goes by height, 100cm and under is free, 101cm-130cm is 50%, 131cm+ is full price.

Is there a way to join the waitlist online ahead of arrival?

Irvine location and Cerritos location don't take reservations. No yelp waitlist either. First comes first serves.

Important deciding factor for me, does this location put hot mustard on their sushi? I know Cerritos does 🤢 instead of typical spicy mayo that all there other locations do.

    no hot mustard on sushi

Hi Team, what is the maximum number of guests you can accommodate at your largest table?

In regular dining you can probably fit 8, the VIP room can fit up to 12 (tight squeeze). There are tables that fit 8, and can accommodate up to 14 (with the end having a gap but next to a booth seating 6).

Does this location have plans to open for weekday lunch soon? As someone who works in the area and goes out to lunch every day, I can say that this place will have a healthy customer base that will keep it busy during the lunch hours.

Most CC locations open for lunch shortly after completing their soft opening.

    Do they take reservations?

Walk in only. If you have a Chubby Club NFT or app status of Silver+ you can make priority waitlist requests (24+hours) on Discord once they become available (usually a few weeks after soft opening).

The tables inside that aren't bar seating are directly underneath the AC vents, which make it feel colder than inteded by staff members most likely. Food & Drinks: The chicken was fully-cooked but still juicy, and the outside was golden brown and crispy. The curry was so delicious, and for the price of a combo, the value you get with the entire set (chicken katsu + rice + ginger + green onion + miso soup + curry + soda can) was great. I already said it, but it needs to be said that the curry was really delicious haha! Work-Friendliness: No outlets or wifi was available. However, bar seating looking out into the greeneries of UTC is nice. If you have a book to read or can do offline work for a little bit, then the bar seating is doable. Be warned that at night, however, you might see big rats roaming around UTC (which is not really within Kare Japanese Curry's control, but still worth mentioning if you want to dine outside at night). Getting There: Moderately busy parking lot, with the parking lot immediately next to Kare Japanese Curry being shared with Chik-Fil-A, Target, and Chipotle -- so it might be busy. If you're a UCI student, it's easy to walk over to Kare via an overpass from the flag poles. There's also an Anteater Express shuttle stop closeby for you to take. Service: Really kind staff! I was a bit confused with their combo deal. I misunderstood and thought that their combo deal would be the same price regardless of the protein that you get with the combo (chicken katsu is not your only option). So when I was going through the self-service kiosk they have up front, I took a little bit longer than expected. However, there was a staff member at the counter that was really nice and kind enough to patiently explain to me what the combo deal was. I really appreciated them since I felt a bit slow that night.

Soft music played in the background, and the traditional Japanese decor gave the restaurant a warm, relaxing feel. Our server was friendly and respectful, and the food came out quickly and hot. We ordered the Pork Loin Katsu Curry and the Cheese Pork Katsu. The pork loin was cooked really well, with a crispy, golden crust and a tender, juicy interior. The curry was flavorful and comforting without being spicy, making it an easy choice if you prefer a milder Japanese curry. The Cheese Pork Katsu was also excellent. The melted cheese added a creamy richness that complemented the crispy pork well. Both meals also came with miso soup, which had a clean flavor, and a side of shredded lettuce with dressing that helped lighten up the richness of the fried dishes. Overall, everything was prepared well, the service was great, and the restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere. If you're looking for a reliable spot for Japanese curry and katsu, I'd definitely recommend it and would happily come back again.

I enjoyed the variety of small bites that came with every order. We came in with a group of 10. The staff was very accommodating. Service was good and place gets pretty busy
